Our visit to West Hills for my puppy’s neutering appointment started off very rocky. I had to drop him off between 7-730am which I did and when we got there Brody, my husky lab mix, was definitely uneasy and began barking. The receptionist Audrey, mind you didn’t greet us or say anything to acknowledge us standing in front of her desk, seemed very overwhelmed. I don’t know why considering there was only 1 other dog in the lobby waiting for the vet but oh well. Once she checked us in she needed Brody’s weight. West hills scale is built into the floor so your dog needs to stand still on the scale to be properly weighed. Brody had a tough time keeping still with being anxious and curious being there. The receptionist yelled at us and made me feel dumb that I could not get him to sit down. Finally after many huffs and puffs from her she said they’ll just weigh him in the back. After that we were filling out paper work which I’m sorry to say Brody barked a lot during. I felt really bad and was just about finished when I heard from the desk a sharp unfriendly voice yelling “you’re making a lot of noise over there this earlier in the morning” I’m sorry but why is this woman working at an animal hospital if she can’t handle their voices and noises? Also why would she say it like that? Yelled at us over the desk? Instead of maybe offering to help me or ask us to fill the paperwork outside. Anyways I left the paperwork on the desk and waited outside to be called in. We waited not even 5 minutes before getting called into the examination room. I was really nervous about leaving Brody here I was under the impression that’s he’d get kicked out of something if everyone was like this rude receptionist who in my opinion doesn’t have a polite bone in her body. I told the vets assistant my reservations about this and she looked at me kind of funny and said our concern is the animals and that they’re ok. Don’t worry about how we are, we can handle the noise. She seemed very genuine about that and made me feel comfortable leaving Brody there. Obviously the receptionist doesn’t have the same feelings and shouldn’t be working there or should be redistributed. I work front desk so I know how important it is to have a happy face and kind demeanor to ALL guests. Everything else was really top notch I have to say. The vet, Dr Tiffany Sikalas, called us to let us know how Brody did during and after surgery. A very kind sounding receptionist Wendy called the next day to give us a discharge time. We even spoke with the technician upon pick up who very nicely went over everything with us about home care and medication. The reason why I’m giving 3 stars is solely because of Audrey the receptionist, she really made me second guess my choice in West Hills and made me want to leave. The actual service was excellent though and I do think they are a 5 star animal hospital. Definitely keeping West Hills as Brody’s vet but if we see Audrey at the desk we’ll just kindly wait for another ones assistance. Read Less

Both my dogs do not even have scars from the surgeries! He always follows up on our visits and Lily was there MANY times on her first year for being a very mischievous puppy! He is the BEST vet and we do travel 40 min each way to see him. He is the one reason we drive so far. He truly loves our dogs and is an AMAZING DOCTOR. I would trust his recommendations at any time. I have always been loyal to North Shore Animal League for their through care for animals and very reasonable rates, but I was given a free visit here after the purchase of a puppy from Bow Wow Babies and have stuck with them ever since! Although a bit pricier than the NSAL vet, the price is worth it for the extra personalized and attentive visit given to you and your pet. Love this place! All of the staff is warm and friendly. Stay away! We almost had to amputate our puppys leg due to dr. Lancer's carelessness. Unfortunately we were unable to pursue litigation against him since New York State is a no fault state and doesnt provide protection for pets. They will most likely respond to this review and recount how his insurance company found him to be not liable; however that was simply because no other vet would back us up and in turn destroy another vets career. She was a 15 week old puppy without any other exposure and developed a severe infection in the same leg he vaccinated her in. It's not a coincidence. We brought our puppy to dr lancer and verbally discussed spacing out her vaccines. At 15 weeks Lancer gave her 6 vaccines at once. Shortly thereafter, she developed severe swelling her in leg (the same that she was vaccinated in) and was running a high fever. She was put on antibiotics and a few weeks after that developed boils and her leg fractured. After spending weeks in the hospital on intravenous antibiotics, we were almost faced with amputation. Our young 20 week old puppy almost lost her leg due to his carelessness. Eventually she was given the right antibiotic and her leg was saved from amputation. I still don't consider myself antivaccine but I think it's super important to find a vet you trust and who doesn't have a superiority complex. We spent well over $13k treating her and to this day, her tibia was stunted 6 cm due to his carelessness and arrogance. Two years later, we are still ticked off and live with this every day. In regard to bringing in hurt or stray animals, they are honest and do everything they can to help. I've gone here a number of times in the middle of the night to ask them to check for id chips of strays that were brought to our attention around the area. They are generous people who not only love the animals they treat, but are helpful to all animal lovers. For regular check-ups and treatment of your own pet, the costs are about the same as most places--vets are not cheap. They will provide you with all possible treatment choices, so make sure you pick what you can afford and what you feel your pet needs after getting the required input. Read Less

The waiting room was very comfortable, plenty of seating free coffee, water for us and pets etc, free wifi and tv.  When we saw the Vet(I think Dr Irma?) she was very nice as well and she treated the most obvious and immediate problem. No up sell. No unnecessary tests. Just an antibiotic and if symptoms don't resolve we will then follow up for further testing. Exactly what we wanted. I was all prepared to fight off an array of needless tests or be "shamed" for not caring enough about my pet like at other vetsBut it never happened. Think they are very good veterinarians, with one exception that I feel I have to write about. My almost 4 yr. old husky requires a lifetime maintenance medication. To buy from them is ridiculously expensive as are the OTC people meds that have been given to me for another dog. I asked for a prescription so that I could purchase from one of the online vetinary pharmacies. It was given to me. When I ordered the prescription, paid. I received an email stating that my vetinary clinic would not do it over the phone. They may not like that I don't want to fill their pockets with money for prescriptions that I can get elsewhere for about 10% of what they charge. I just got off the phone with vetinary pharmacy and was told, "good news, your clinic says they will work with you." I was told to bring in RX and they will then fax to the pharmacy. Think they might be a bit more helpful considering I privilege them with the care of my dogs. Ill be posting something similar to my FB. this is not the first time this issue came up. Read Less

When we moved to Huntington I switched both my dogs to this vet and have a very positive experience. They educated me on what shots my dogs needed and not trying to get me to get ones that weren't only necessary so I didn't spend an arm and leg. Recently my one dog had to have emergency surgery on her uterus and we didn't feel forced into getting the procedure but the dr made it clear how life or death not getting it was and he also made it clear how risky it was with her age and that she had a prior heart condition. The place was fully equips and ready to go right away and had a cardiologist on hand whom set modifications for fluid and Anastasia that wouldn't complicate her heart. My dog was in good hands and is recovering now and I am so grateful for the doctors for taking immaculate care of my dog and saving her life. Also The place is very clean and nice!Read Less

After some negligent experiences at my previous animal hospital with my ill 15+ year old cat, I was referred to West Hills, specifically Dr. Dominguez. Dr. Dominguez was very thorough, thoughtful, and patient with me and my grumpy cat as we were both very emotional last night. Woobie was temperamental, and I was convinced she was dying. Naturally, there were lots of tears. Dr. Dominguez was the perfect mix of being proactive without being an alarmist. She was careful to make sure I understood everything she was saying, what was being done for my cat, and why. She answered all of my questions and when I needed something repeated she happily acquiesced. I made some requests for Woobie's care (subcutaneous fluids, and suggested an injected antibiotic) and she did not dismiss me and agreed that those would a good course of action. I also appreciated that she took Woobie's tolerance and comfort level into consideration. I requested an x-ray, and she agreed but only if it didn't upset Woob too much; she did not want her too stressed and would not do the x-ray if she was distressed. Thus far, it looks like Woobie seems to be pretty ok for an old cat. She's got some issues but Dr. D doesn't think she's going anywhere just yet. Was it expensive? You bet. Worth it? You bet. It was thorough, quality care, and one thing I refuse to cheap out on is the health of my old, fragile girl. I also like knowing that in the event of a late night or holiday emergency West Hills will be open and there for us. I won't have to wait, or go to an unfamiliar emergency vet. I can bring her to a trusted hospital that is familiar with her.Read Less

It took me awhile to write this review because I have been grieving. This review is so important because you all need to know what kind of place West Hills Animal Hospital really is. I brought my cat Sunny there last week and they have never met me before. Sunny was a 16 year old cat newly diagnosed with kidney disease. I went there to do repeat blood test and to get a plan to move forward with this disease. We were taken in very quickly and we saw Dr. Ries. Immediately when I met her I felt like I knew her. You could tell she just had the Kindest Heart and the sweetest disposition. We proceeded to get blood work done and I wanted the results right away so we did them in house. Unfortunately, the blood test came back very bad and I had to make a decision to either put him through treatments that might not even save him or let him go with dignity. I went into the waiting area and took about 2 hours to make my decision. Little did I know that Dr. Ries was waiting to go home. She never once came out to hurry me up. Only a special person would do this. She could have passed me off to the next vet on duty, but she said she wanted to finish what she started. And then there was Catherine. She wasn't even working that night, she was just checking on a friend's dog that was in the hospital. She wanted to come in and assist with putting Sunny down. The two of them were so unbelievably comforting at this horrible time. And Laura at the front desk was nothing but pure joy. I can't thank the staff enough for how they took care of me and Sunny. As soon as I find the perfect cat for my home I will be coming right back 2 West Hills Animal HospitalRead Less

Just getting back home at 4am. The entire staff here is absolutely fantastic! Our elderly 15 y.o. Shepherd Mix girl got herself into a scrap with another dog and had very distressing wounds, lacerations and bruising. Typically we drive into Animal Medical Center in NYC for more serious care but this was too worrisome for all of that travel. I rushed home on the train, looking at reviews of all of the various emergency hospitals and - baring one very bizarre review - this place had all five stars. So I scooped her up and brought her in - and I am SO HAPPY that I did! These folks lived up to the reviews and then some! Every single other emergency vet that I have been to on Long Island has been money-grubbing, insensitive, often unprofessional, and terrifyingly incompetent in their knowledge and service! Yet, from the moment that I pulled into the parking lot Chelsea - our old girl - was treated with great respect and tremendous compassion by the entire staff. They didn't sit there and wait for the bill to be paid before they treated her - they started working on her immediately after they assessed her needs and acquired my consent. They did not add on unnecessary procedures, treatments, or medications. They listened to and respected my concerns and preferences completely. They are also very compassionate with people too! They worked with my budget so that our Chelsea could receive the necessarily thorough care and treatment that her condition demanded, but without breaking the bank. What a treasure of a find!!! And less than 30 minutes away. If it wasn't for this fantastic place I don't know what I would have done. Read Less

Our beagle, Patty boy, had severe back pain on Saturday. We rushed him to the place where we adopted him, North Shore Animal League. The doctor we saw there was very cold and had no compassion at all. We had exrays and blood work done but were not comfortable at all. My husband and I decided we did not like the care there and wanted to have a second opinion. I asked a friend who has several dogs where she brings her pets, she recommended West Hills Animal Hospital. On Sunday, I called and spoke to Lisa at the front desk. Lisa was friendly, caring and assured me that the Vet Patty boy would be seeing was a terrific doctor even though it was not the one my friend recommended. When we arrived we were pleasantly greeted at the front desk. The vets assistant came out to take us in, I can't believe I cannot remember her name, I liked her so much, she was terrific. She was kind, gentle, compassionate and loved Patty boy immediately. We knew we were in good hands. When Dr. Sikalas walked in, again I knew this was the right place to be. I cannot say enough nice things about this woman, She was smart, kind, compassionate, explained herself clearly...the best. When she examined my pet and hit a spot that made he scream, I started to cry. Dr. Sikalas looked at me with tears in her eyes and said I wish I could hug you. I was so touched by her compassion. We received incredible care, the place was immaculate, the prices were very reasonable, there is no need to ever go any where else.

Read Less
