Dr, Volel has taken care of our two toy poodles, Cliff and Cameron, for the past 10 years. We got them from a rescue shelter (Bobby and the Strays), and they were barely socialized to humans. She immediately put them, and us, at ease, and gave them a thorough examination. That began a relationship through which they have been happy to go to Animal Hospital of Queens Boulevard for exams or boarding. For the past 10 years, they have been incredibly (almost freakishly) healthy, and I put that down to Dr. Volel's care of them. About 18 months ago, when Cameron had swollen lymph nodes under his chin, Dr. Volel did an exam, drew blood and when the results were not what she wanted, scheduled further testing. He was diagnosed with lymphoma, and we were referred by her to Blue Pearl, where Cameron underwent chemo and radiation. He ended his treatment in January 2015, and he is still in complete remission. If she had not been as diligent with here diagnostic testing, and suggested an aggressive course of treatment, I hesitate to think what might have happened. We were going to the Queens Boulevard Animal Clinic for years as a matter of convenience. We never had a problem but I also never felt as if it was anything more than a conveyor belt of service. Dr. Volel was a refreshing change. I never felt like I was being rushed. She was very thorough in the exam and made myself and my pup feel at ease. We recently had to deal with a herniated disc with our min pin and she has been ever patient with our phone calls and has answered every question, no matter how crazy they might sound. She is a wonderful vet with a warm bedside manner and a great emergency affiliate Blue Pearl. Both have been extremely helpful in a time of need. Read Less

After having problems with different vets in this area we finally found Dr Volel, and we are so glad. She's warm, smart, very experienced and listens carefully. She has given us some great advice about medication for our dog and useful tips about our dog's diet. She has proven to be trustworthy, never over prescribing or taking unnecessary action. I'ts the first time I have been here since I've moved to this neighborhood from the city and I have to say the level of attention is what sets this place apart from the rest. Dr. Volel is a very good veterinarian. We took our cocker spaniel there after she got severely injured by large dog that attacked her, tearing the skin completely away from her shoulder. She healed up quite nicely. We have been back regularly as our baby is aging and her health is failing. We have gotten excellent care, and our dog is mostly comfortable for her final years. The price is standard for veterinary care. Some visits are more expensive than others, and follow up visits are very low to no cost. Prescriptions cost what they cost. Depending on the time of day of your visit, you may have to wait, but every doctor's office gets backed up (mostly due emergency visits and other patients being late). Our dog is very wary with strangers, and will nip people that try to touch her, so our first visit we did suggest a muzzle, though it was not needed. Our dog has surprisingly taken nicely to Dr. Volel, and lets her do what she needs to. Read Less

I have been coming here for 5 years and Dr Volel is simply the best canine doctor I have seen.  She is patient, smart, dedicated and works well with you.  She will offer you many viable options while keeping her costs low.  Granted the place is not much to look at, but I suspect that this small staff keeps their expenses low because they are concerned about affordable vet care for their clients and not raising the prices to renovate the facilities.  Dr Volel is also very knowledgeable as she caught a heart murmur that THREE other vets did not catch and claimed that it did not exist.  Dr. Volel actually held the stethoscope to me and let me listen and after listening intently, I could hear the faint difference between a healthy heart and heart murmur.  Her dedication to families and pets and their health, is second to none. This place is great. I chose Dr. Volel because she came highly recommended by one of my neighbors and I'm so glad that I did. She's great. The wait is generally a little longer than I would like, but which doctor's office isn't like that? All in all, i recommend Dr. Volel and the Animal Hospital of Queens Blvd. Read Less
