I am a professional breeder and handler, and I was extremely impressed by Dr. Fitzgerald's expertise and professionalism. Explained to them that we are moving out of state next week but they squeezed us in knowing that we would not be a repeat customer. Their prompt service may have helped us avoid painful, expensive surgery. Dr Fitzgerald is the absolute best! I have been taking my dog to Dr Fitzgerald for many years now. She is beyond knowledgable and caring towards the animals, as are her staff. I am beyond over protective of my dog and I trust Dr Fitzgerald with her. She is honest and will not do anything unnecessary to the animal if not needed. If you want the best for your dog then go to this vet. My family has used Dr. Fitzgerald for well over 20 years. This includes at least two offices before she had her own practice. Growing up my family bred and showed English Mastiffs and Affenpinschers. From the time we met her Dr. Fitzgerald cared for all of of them over the years. Today we drive many miles out of our way in order for her to care for our pet Rhodesian Ridgeback. Dr. Fitzgerald has always provide sound advice and excellent care. Like any medical treatment nothing is an absolute. Over the years Dr. Fitzgerald has time and time again made the right call and we are happy to have her as our vet. Note the negative review by A.A. Rocks. He has at least two bogus and conflicting reviews for a dentist in MN he has most likely never visited. Dr Merry cropped my doberman, Spike's ears. I think he looks gorgeous. I was satisfied with the after care and guidance they provided while I did the posting. The is woman merry fitzgerald killed 2 of my animals.1 due to wrong medication the other due to abuse which occurred downstairs. I was told this by an employee who had no axe to grind but felt sorry for us and privately told us what had happened. I stand by my review. I have the correct vet and my story is truthful and accurate. I am glad your dog has been well cared for but PLEASE be careful. If you had my experience and your Pet died as a result of being abused by this woman you would feel very different about her.Read Less

I have been using Dr. Fitzgerald since 1999 with my first Dog. She is very knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner with the animals as well as the human parents. When it came time for my dog to pass on, the entire staff was very empathic and truely sincere in their sympathy. They let me and my children take time to say our good-byes. She is now the primary care for my second dog. I cannot say enough about her and her staff. Everyone in the office is great! I would absolutely recommend her. Read Less

Botched my dogs procedure, wasn't honest about it and caused him many health complications in the future of his life. Shouldn't be practicing medicine and wouldn't recommend to anyone, take your dog somewhere else unless you want a dog with one testicle. I have been using Dr. Merry Fitzgerald for 15 years and I hold her skills and DVM opinion in the highest regard. She helped my in-laws acquire a terrific Doberman rescue who lived a long and happy life. She has been a terrific vet to both my dogs. She prolonged the life of my Yorkie three years with her expertise and she has always been spot on in helping me provide the best care for my animal family members. Unlike other Vet experiences I've had on Long Island where I've been offered little reasoning for a medical plan of action and given the most expensive options first. Went to see dr. Fitzgerald for an exam prior to artificial insemination, my dog who is picky with people seemed to like her, I work with another vet in the island that doesn't do reproduction, and she had a nice bedside manner and seemed extremely knowledgeable. Would recommend her to anyone looking to breed their dog. I was referred by one of her clients with her a very long time.  She also shows her dogs and I think it seen agility titles in her office which means she enjoys her profession, she continues to enjoy dogs even outside of her job. She's supportive of showing and receiving other titles as well which I enjoy because I do the same with my dogs. Read Less

I learned of Dr. Fitzgerald from another vet office when I needed my Corso's ears cropped. She is a one woman practice so my animals get seen by the same vet and not by whomever is covering that day. Appointments are very easy to get, usually the same day or within a day of calling. The office is clean without a disinfectant smell. The techs are gentle and efficient. Dr. Fitzgerald is wonderful. I appreciate her willingness to answer questions no matter how silly I feel they might be. I do not have pet insurance and I do not know if she participates with any insurers. I have always paid out of pocket. I have seen a brochure for financing office visits and proceedures.The **ONLY** drawback of her office is her location. It is best if you make a right turn into her driveway while driving north on Hawkins and when exiting make a right turn out of her driveway to go north on Hawkins. The traffic there can sometimes be a pain in the butt. Read Less

Merry Fitzgerald should not have a license to practice veterinary medicine.  She almost killed my dog- first with a misdiagnosis and second- she gorged  him full of liquids because she said he was severely dehydrated, he formed a sac of fluid in his chest that was from OVER-hydrating him.  I told her I wanted to take my dog from her facility and she wanted me to sign a release of liability.  I told her I would not sign the release and she would not release my dog to me. I waited over 2 hours and then I had to call 911- the police made her hand over my sick dog immediately and I took him for a second opinion.  She told me he had a case of mild worms, I was told by the second opinion he had a virus and needed antibiotics!  In a matter of three days my poor dog lost so much weight under Merry Fitzgerald's care that you could see his spine and ribcage.   She overcharges and I am pretty sure she added additional items onto my bill that were never discussed with me about my dogs care. In fact, she never discussed my dogs care or what she would be doing to him and charged me like mad for services I am not even sure she performed.  When I went to get his records, laboratory tests were missing that I paid a lot of money for!  I strongly advise that if you love your dog, do not take them to this office.  She should not be practicing veterinary medicine when she can't even diagnose a dog properly and I am taking all steps necessary to get my money back as well as get my dog the proper care he needed from the beginning.
