I went to take my dog for a kennel stay for a week. Β Like the previous time, they insisted that I pay for a Flu shot for my dog, which, by their own veterinarian's admission, is not proven to work. Β What's more, she said, is that you have to get two shots, within three weeks or so, before it would even be effective. Β My dog would only be here 6 days. Β However, I would still have to pay for it as it is required. Β That makes no sense the dog will still be fully vulnerable for the stay. Β I understand the requirement to have a check up by their doctor in order to board your dog. Β But forcing a vaccine that will not be effective for your pets stay is just a revenue producer. Β When I talked to the doctor about this policy he asked, "Do you think I'm going to pay for it?" Β Instead of answering my question about the efficacy and usefulness of it, he clearly was only responding to Β a monetary motive. Β I caution anyone subjecting their pet to this likely unnecessary shot to do your research before going in. Β Once they have you there, adding another $30 is easier to justify paying, but likely just a way to raise fees to the owners. Β There is an article in the NY times on December 12, 2015 addressing the shot knows and unknowns. Β But one thing for sure, the requirement to have one shot is not going to protect your dog.
