Response from Feline Health
5 Oct 2022
Hi Kathryn/Gilbert,
All of us here at Feline Health are so sorry that your experience was so negative. Historically, you both have been rude to our staff and a previous doctor dating back over 10 years, to a point that the receptionist even remembered and was upset that you were even coming in. I decided that the health of your kitty was more important, so I allowed the visit. You reminded me and my staff multiple times throughout your visit that you are a physician, so you know how this and animal medicine should work, so clearly we were not up to your standards. You came in and were so rude to my technician giving her a history (this is how vets offices and doctors offices work, your nurses hopefully go in before you and get a history from your clients), that she came back almost in tears and asked me to please not see your cat. Despite this second “red flag” to use your words, I proceeded. I examined your poor kitty, who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease back in May and never treated/no one in your household responded to any of my recommendations. You definitely stated when you came in that you wanted no diagnostics performed on your baby, and that you just wanted me to “tell you what was wrong with him”. I examined your sweet boy, and he had one of the worst flea infestations I have ever seen, fleas crawling all over his poor body, and covered in flea dirt. The infestation was so bad that his gums were pale and his veins were so small it was difficult for me to get blood. You originally made the appointment for me to evaluate him for a euthanasia, and what was presented to me was a sweet alert kitty, with a perfectly curable condition, that was neglected for so long that he could very possibly have been close to needing that. I came out to the waiting room (as our covid policy dictates, which is explained thoroughly to you when you schedule your appointment AND when your appointment is confirmed, so you were aware and still chose to come in knowing this was the way it was going to work). I proceeded to tell you that your baby was full of fleas, was likely anemic, and secondary to that plus his previously diagnosed kidney disease was dehydrated. You proceeded to become hostile with me and explain to me that there was no way your cat has fleas and asked me to explain the pathophysiology of his dehydration to you, which I attempted to do. You repeatedly interrupted me to explain that you are a physician and that you feed many cat colonies with fleas so you know for sure that your cat does not have fleas. You then questioned me repeatedly as to why I recommended blood work and flea treatment. We went around in this circle 3 or 4 times, forcing the other clients who were waiting for their appointments to sit past their appointment times and graciously wait to be seen. I reached a breaking point with your rudeness and said to forget it, and that you could seek a second opinion, because clearly my opinion was not enough for you. I am doing my best to help everyone’s kitties in the safest way I know how, and I promise I would never hurt or do them harm. I am trying to protect my employees from getting sick, as most of them are immunocompromised and I have very small exam rooms and poor ventilation in my basement office. As I was walking back into my office to escape your negativity and harassment, your husband raised his voice and yelled “hey! Come back here!” Scary! I just want to help people who want my help, and it was clear you didn’t. I’m sorry you don’t like people who stand up to you and your terrible demeanor, but someone had to do it.
