I came to this place reading all the great reviews, but didn't see why it was rated 5 stars. Yes it's very clean and organized, but the doctors don't actually care about your animal. Seems like they would rather them get sick so you can come back for more treatments. I went to another vet in Long Island and found out that the food I was feeding my dog was causing death and cancer in almost every dog, which heart of Chelsea animal hospital never told me. And they never told me how common it is for dogs to get heart worm and never gave me a medicine for my dog, which my new vet has given me. They just want your money honestly. I would at least pay about $400 each visit. My new vet has a monthly plan and many things including spay is included. So much better. And they actually care about my dog as much as I do. Read Less

What an amazing facility!  We have a 4 month old Rat Terrier named Teddy and they have been so helpful since day 1.  The staff really cares: The front desk ladies and gentleman really welcome each pet and help with filing insurance claims.  The nurses and doctors are all as sweet as can be, and totally put Teddy at ease.  If you live nearby, this is the place to take your pet.BONUS for Puppy Owners! I yelped the crap out of every vet possible, East & West Village and something told me to come here. I'm so happy I did!My dog experienced a breakout of hives all over her body after a day at the park on the FDR Drive. She was so irritated and would not sleep for the night, I was in a panic and knew I HAD to take her to be seen. So today I called as soon as they opened and was greeted by a woman named Erin. She was SO sweet and worried about my dog. She took down some basic information and anticipated my arrival.As soon as I came in I filled out a pretty simple information sheet and was seen within a matter of 5 minutes. The vet's assistant, Sarah,  listened to everything I had to say and asked all the right questions to help create the perfect solution by the doctor. When the Vet, Dr.Higgins came in, she was super polite, involved and genuinely concerned about my Coco. She talked me through every possible method of treating her and proceeded to explain what the best solution was before executing it.All in all, Coco is sleeping peacefully on my lap as I type this and I couldn't feel more confident in this place. Not gonna deny that they take good care of pets, the follow ups, and everything. However, this place is pricey for no reason. My pet had a "broken tooth" they were charging me $1000 to take it out, I asked them why it was so expensive if it is just one tooth and previously they took out 4 baby retained teeth and they included the dental package which was not necessary because they already did everything previously. I went to another vet and they pulled out the loose tooth which was never broken because it was a baby teeth, they did it for free, no blood, no pain, no anesthesia. I had to see a vet for emergency last minute. I have to say this wasn't my first choice due to yelp reviewers but I needed one badly. My dog was vomitting and stool had blood. I tried to book a same day appt with lower east side vet but they were full. The receptionist was nice and told me their sister location heart of Chelsea has opennings so I took it. Everyone was very nice and polite. A little overly friendly but it's fine. I enjoyed my appointment here. But I honestly was very to the point with don't try to over sell me services. I think the doctor got the point. I switch her dog food and she's got ill from it. I know it's no parasites or virus. She did went ahead to check the stool for 59$ negative for giardia no clue what's that. Doc wanted to run more lab work on her stool. I refused it. She looked in her ear. She said my dog had yeast and wanted to flush it and use medication drops. I allowed her to do so even tho I already purchased an ear cleanser solution. She then wanted to treat my dog skin with medicated shampoo. I refused it. I told her I can buy it off Amazon. She wanted to do blood work too. Refused also. I reiterated to treat my dog for primary reason her gag reflux and poop. Ears fine. Doc said my dog teeth were gorgeous. Yes, I brush them and clean off her plaque myself. I made sure to limit my vet visits as much as possible. Everything came out to be $239. I was diligent with my bill and not allow them to over service me. Overall I give them 4 stars. Don't listen to all the yelp reviewers, u just have to know what u want and expect. I'm grateful that they had last min appt and nice. I would go back again. Read Less

My dog Princess she was sick so I had to take her to the Vet and cause one of her eyes came out of the socket and I really didn't have the money for the bill cause the bill came up too $1890.00 dollars so I couldn't really pay for it so when I got home they called ME asking ME how much can I afford and I told them how much that I could afford so y'all won't never believe what they did for my baby Princess. They tooked over the bill and paid almost the whole bill for my baby Princess. I just had to pay $300.00 dollars and that was all. Well they paid the difference and they gave ME medications for her as well cause they had to remove (1) of my baby Princess eye and her teeth cause they got rotten and now she's feeling a whole lot better and I'm feeling a whole lot better to cause I wouldn't know what I would of done if they didn't help us. God is Good people believe that and so are the doctors at Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital. They were so Good to me and my baby Princess. I want to really thank everyone and everybody at that Vet. High fees for no treatments! Dishonest people that look at your pet as a cash machine=> they keep your dog sick so you keep coming back. Monsters! My dog has simple warms... for 4 months now. Why? These vets don't tell you that to make sure your dog is done with warms you need to follow the warms reproduction cycle and repeat the same treatment 2 or 3 weeks later. But... they are more than happy to charge $80 for consultation and $60 for pills, with a big smile. The rest of the info you have to dig it out yourself while your dog is suffering. Oh and they also throw away the stool sample in the garbage, but of course they make you pay for the (garbage can) "lab result". DONT TRUST THEM. DONT GO THERE Read Less

I have been seeing Dr. Bassman for my very sick 4th stage renal Himalayan. She, along with Dr. Nguyen have been so kind and companionate. I had a disaster at Animal Medical center at 510 E. 62nd. NYC back in Oct. My 4th stage renal cat was in their care for 5 days. They released him to me blind. They had no concern or compassion for my cat. In my opinion the AMC was completely negligent!!!! Dr. Nguyen detected a mouth ulcer that AMC completely missed. Dr. Bassman was able to get a blood pressure on my cat that AMC said they could not get (on a 5.4lb cat, hardly a lion) because they said he was to difficult. Had AMC taken my cats blood pressure while in their care for 5 days, they could have saved his vision w/blood pressure medication. Dr. Bassman has been superb with her care and knowledge of my cat and could not have been kinder to me. She is a true pro. and in the business for all the RIGHT reasons. Everybody from the front desk to the techs to every Dr. I have encounter have been top notch! they do everything in their power to fit you in, when necessary. I could not have been more pleased with Heart of Chelsea, every step of the way!Read Less

This place really is hit and miss depending on the day and time you go.  Sometimes you get seen right away or after a short wait, other times you can be sitting there for 40-50 minutes.  Certain vets are also much better than others.  I would recommend Dr. Kantor and Dr. Bassman. They are both knowledgeable and friendly.  This place is also quite pricey so brace yourself when the bill comes. Read Less

Dr. Lang and the staff was very helpful and professional. My dog became quite ill and Dr. Lang and the staff tended to her right away and I am so happy that they were able to get her feeling better almost immediately with IV fluids and antibiotics. Even the follow up visit was great. Dr. Lang took her time with us, and explained everything she was doing and answered all of my questions and concerns. Amazing doctors.... so attentive and kind there are no words. They always call back, and have been amazingly helpful on the phone so many times that I was worried something was wrong. The ease of access helps to avert having to come in sometimes .... saving you money in appointments. No, Heart of Chelsea is not the cheapest vet in the city, but I feel you get what you pay for. I have been to many vets in both brooklyn and manhattan, some cheaper, some much cheaper.... and the level of care here is incomparable. I suppose if your dog is perfectly healthy it doesnt matter where you take him or her, but when your dog is elderly or sick it really does make a difference. Im grateful for the amazing care this Hospital provided both of my very sick and aging dogs, one of which had an exceptionally rare disease, through the end of their lives. This place is the best care you can receive for your animals. They take the time to explain EVERYTHING during the exam and after. You can call them and ask questions at no charge. I have even emailed videos to the vets to see if I needed to be concerned with certain symptoms. They never treat you like they are in a hurry. They are on the upper end that you would pay for vets, but not much considering this is NYC. Your animals will not be stressed during the visit or traumatized after. It is worth every penny. After a decade, I think I am finally ready to move my dog on from this practice. Heart of Chelsea is a clean, modern facility and is incredibly accommodating in terms of scheduling appointments. The price of services here is hands down ludicrous. I have stayed mostly due to convenience, attachment to consistency and various doctors who have come and gone from the line up over the years. I believe in preventative care but I do not believe there is any doctor here that is truly at liberty to help one navigate options and services with perhaps savings in mind. I think the mandate from the top is bill through the nose - no matter what.   So what prompted this review now? My dog had his annual exam this week. We were with a doctor we like (and a rather unpleasant tech) for a very few minutes.  We had blood drawn, nails clipped and a couple of things addressed including a 3yr rabies vaccination....which produced severe allergic reaction #2 - and sent us to the emergency room some 5 hours after our appointment. Our bill at Heart of Chelsea was just under $1000 plus we spent an additional $300 at the emergency hospital. I spend $1000+ a year here easily and while the "affability" of the staff has improved over the years (probably due to old yelp reviews all complaining about cost and charmless staff) there is still an overarching feeling that this practice is a factory first. After 10 years, nobody really knows me or my dog and everything is about the big fat bill, bill, bill. I appreciate the level of care (I guess? I mean really I don't know - it isn't bad but is it that good?). I guess I would prefer less weird sugary sweetness and a more grounded - thoughtful - real - 15 minutes with a doctor who actually had the time and an interest in connecting. Saturdays I was told are busy so Annuals get rushed - but my review here is written after having a consistent experience over a decade at H of C. It is what it is. Maybe I just miss the old time vets I grew up with - the docs who perhaps didn't text and e-mail you or have a business manager call you about mishaps but vets whom you really knew cared about your pet - and that doing so genuinely wasn't mutually exclusive to running a lucrative practice. I have to write a review for the outstanding customer service here. Every person I've ever dealt with here has been kind, professional, and responsive. I have never had any issues with billing or care for my pup. Yes it's expensive, but as a pet parent I believe there no price for quality care. The place itself is clean, spacious, and modern. The payment process is easy and they itemize everything so there are no hidden fees. The staff who answers the phone are all great! As far as doctors, I've dealt with Dr.Lang and Dr.Gabrielle and they are both great! Super knowledgable and kind with my doggy. I've taken hansel here for yearly check up which was an easy breezy process. He got all his shots, blood work, heart warm and physical done in one visit. I recently had the dental cleaning done. I was skeptical at first due to the cost. It's high, but after conversations with both doctors we decided to proceed. My dog came out with no issues and I saw immediate results. I recently brought my cat in on an emergency basis. I wasn't a client and yet they made time for us. The staff was so kind and caring. Dr Siebert, who operated on my cat, was incredibly available. He called right after surgery and again to let me know I could pick her up. He then personally made daily follow up calls to check on her recovery. Although I must say that if my vet left- Dr. Jennifer Gabrille, I would follow her. Stella loves going to see everyone there. I guess that speaks volumes if your pet like to go to a vet. I have a few small dogs and I used to bring them to Bide-a-wee because of the low pricing BUT the prices went up and the service went down and by the last few visits they seemed in a rush to get you out and charged about as much as everywhere else in Manhattan ($250 for a visit some shampoo and oral drops). When I got my yorkie (she is 4.6lbs as an adult) I wanted the best doctors to fix her because she is so tiny. Not only do the people at Heart of Chelsea take the time to love on your pets they act like they truly care. My yorkie came out from her operation looking and feeling great and has no scar at all. My chinese crested was recently attacked by a pit bull and they took her in the morning I called and did an amazing job on her.
