We all know our pets need to go to the vet for various shots and periodic sickies, but the hardest part is often the final moments. I have always been lucky to find vets who are really compassionate and caring - but it's hard to take an old, sick cat to a a place with barking dogs and weird smells, knowing that a stainless steel table is their final resting place. So when our 20+ year old cat was ready to go, my wife and I wondered: are there vets that will come to the house for euthanasia? And indeed, there are. InstaVet was helpful right from the start: quick response via chat on the computer, a phone call, and an easy and clear list of options with prices. The information provided was helpful and thoughtful - do we want to be with our cat while the sedative is administered, or out of the room? Do we want the cremains returned, or buried? Did we have any questions? When we were ready, so was InstaVet. We called, and a few hours later, the team arrived. We held our cat while the sedative was administered, and he curled up in my wife's lap as he fell asleep. When we - and he - was ready, we placed him on his favorite blanket, and the vet administered the final drugs. We could pet him as he took his last breath. Compared to the last time we had to put a pet to sleep, this was so calm! He wasn't confused or frightened, and the stress on us was really reduced, so we could mourn his passing without also feeling upset at his distress.Cost: $299 for the euthanasia, and $200 to remove and fill out the paperwork. This is totally in line with what we paid previously, while also taking our cat to the office. For our next pet, we will definitely use InstaVet for house calls, necessary vaccinations, and yes, for that last visit.
