I am so grateful that I live around the corner from this place. I was really taking my time trying to find a vet and I regret not stopping here first. Really amazing staff, from the front desk to the nurses to the doctor. Everyone was so empathetic and really were the most transparent vets in my dogs 10 years of life. Very clean clinic and I really felt I wasn't being milked for money. Dr. Fracapane was so calm and spoke very clearly of what was wrong and what needed to be done on my end to make sure my little girl was comfortable and healthy. She is going to need dental work in the future and I will definitely bring her here for it. This is a very trustworthy vet in a sea of money hungry vet clinics! Take your pawfriends here! Read Less

Dr. Kantor is undoubtedly the best and most caring veterinarian in Manhattan. Our dog had a torn ACL and she was able to squeeze him into her schedule and perform surgery just two days after the injury. It is two weeks after surgery now and Milou is already going for long walks and starting to jump around. We can barely see the surgical scar. We highly recommend Dr. Kantor and the hospital. I am such a fan of this animal practice. I've brought my dog and former dogs to vets all over North America and this is the place. Kind, careful, not out to charge you a fortune, loving, available, just the best. My dog does not mind going to the vet in fact she stops there on our walk, like let's. Certainly there's no other choice in New York! And Amy Kantor who usually sees my dog is astonishing. Intuitive, caring, no nonsense and frank and even more than kind of wholistic. She did Honey's knee surgery and my pit is looking good. She's the master of fixing legs if that's your dog's issue. But she gets all of them - dog, animal problems. Trust them and especially trust Amy Kantor. A total experience. Read Less

I took my rescue pup to Lower East Side Animal Hospital yesterday for our first visit and wellness check-up, and I am so happy to have met the team there.Dr. Sara Fracapane and her vet tech Zhong were fun, kind, and extremely helpful with all of my questions. They were clear throughout the entire visit what procedures they considered higher priority, and checked in at every instance to ensure I was comfortable with the tests and steps they were taking. There was no confusion for me on what was recommended versus optional versus unnecessary. They were very respectful. Both Dr. Fracapane and Zhong were so kind and loving with my pup, and expressed sincere interest in his story and our life. They told me stories about their dog and cats, respectively, and are truly passionate about providing top-quality care to all animals. Zhong took the time to discuss with me the choices she had made personally regarding pet insurance, and was very open about a personal financial decision when I directly asked about her experience. I never felt as though I was being "sold" in my visit, and felt very grateful for the information and respect for my decision making process.Overall, I highly recommend. They also have work-friendly appointments (we went at 6:30!) which makes this an easy option for working pet-parents. Read Less

I moved my 8 year old pug here from Australia last year; he had had the same (amazing) vet his whole life so I took the search for a new one here in the US very seriously. I went to LES Animal Hospital based on reviews here, even though it's a bit further out of my way. From the lovely greeting on the phone and at the front desk, to the sweet and very attentive vet nurse Jade to the amazing, Dr Sara Fracapane, I have been incredibly impressed. I received a run down of the meds I needed to give my dog in a follow up email which was extremely helpful as usually when vets are telling me what / how to apply, I'm focused on my dog instead of paying full attention to instructions. Dr Fracapane also followed up in phone calls and email to check in on my dog, even over the long weekend. Bonus, it's also not as pricey as other vets I've enquired about in the city. Plus they go through a breakdown before doing any work so you know upfront how much you're up for. Read Less

I've brought my friends dogs to LES Animal Hospital for several years now. So when getting my own pupper it wasn't a hard choice to make. I am always inspired by the warmth of the greeting, the speed of service (never seem to wait more than a few minutes) and the thoroughness of the treatment without the over testing that has become commonplace in many establishments. The space is always spotless, each exam room is well equipped and you never feel like they are racing to get you in and out. The staff made my dog feel welcome as well as me! It is great to see them take such time and care with their patients. A massive thanks to all the staff and we hope to be infrequent visitors for many years to come! Read Less

This review is long overdue since my dogs have been a client at LES and Heart of Chelsea for over 10 years.  When they opened their lower east side location, I started to take my dogs there since I live on the east side.  My experience with the doctors and vet techs at both facilities has been outstanding, especially Dr. Kantor.  I lost one of my dogs over a year ago and it was a long road to get a correct diagnosis.  Dr. Kantor worked with us for over 7 months before losing him to an unrelated illness.  Dr. Kantor is not only knowledgeable but she has a great deal of compassion for these animals and their human parents.  I trust her 100%!  She worked with us for months until we received an accurate diagnosis. She does not recommend unnecessary tests and always includes us in the decision making process.  She NEVER pushes or recommends procedures or meds unnecessarily.  Dr. Kantor recently performed surgery on my older boy and puppy.  As always, Dr. Kantor and Jen kept me updated throughout the procedure and was absolutely great with my boys.   As you can see from the reviews, this animal hospital and their vet techs are top notch!   Due to one of my boys being really sick for months, we were seeing Dr. Kantor almost on a weekly basis and I think I can accurately say she is one of the best vets in the city...and even a better human being.  She is one of the most understanding and honest human beings I've ever met and I've met a lot of people in my life.  I have always been an educated pet parent and Dr. Kantor would discuss and strategize the best steps to take.  I cannot say enough good things about her and the vet techs at this facility.  I will always have pets in my life and therefore, will always be a client at this facility.  It doesn't get any better than Lower East Side Animal Hospital, Dr. Kantor and vet techs (especially Jen and Deric)! We started going to Heart of Chelsea animal Hospital on 18th St. when we got our beloved Lola almost 10 years ago. At some point we were lucky enough to cross paths with Dr. Amy kantor who did knee surgery on Lola. Since then, lower Eastside animal hospital opened and Dr. kantor works out of that office.  She is the sole reason why we moved the care of both our dogs from heart of Chelsea to lower East side.Even we moved from New York City to New Jersey we still make the trip in for Dr. kantor to do all exams and vet care for both our dogs. She is unparalleled and incomparable and I know my dogs are receiving the very best care and are as safe as can be in her hands. I cannot say enough about the treatment they have received with Dr. kantor as their primary Vet. I do realize it is a little bit more expensive but I think what I'm paying for is superlative veterinary care for my animals.  I view my dogs as family members, search using a doctor for their care is not on like choosing a pediatrician for my child. I take it that seriously. I would recommend Dr. kantor to anyone with an animal. She's filled with compassion and skill. Read Less

A long overdue review - LES Animal Hospital is amazing.  I've been to several vets over the years ((nervous pet Dad here lol)) and I have not come across a more warm and caring office.  The entire staff is great.. Dr Kantor is one of those truly special (and rare) people you come across.  She is an amazing vet - she has performed surgery on both of my French Bulldogs to correct their elongated soft palate and nares plus a vulvoplasty to correct Spencer's chronic UTIs - you can tell she cares about her patients and goes the extra step to personally follow up every step of the way.  I must give a special mention as well to Jen & Deric.. beyond the fact that both my pups adore them they truly make you feel more comfortable knowing your pet is being cared for when you're not there.  Jen has gone above and beyond during their procedures with updates, etc. so that I'm not a nervous wreck the entire time.. I can't even express how much trust I have in this crew.  My guys have a vet for life in Dr. Kantor.  Thank you LES for dealing w/all of my craziness and my babies.  I'm truly grateful.  Joe, Spencer & Archie Read Less

A few months ago my dogs paw got stuck in a moving walkway at JFK airport.  It was a traumatic experience for both myself and my dog (a 10 lb, four year old Papillon/Chihuahua mix named Rosie).  I had initially went to another vet but when they told me a few of Rosie's toes needed to be removed immediately, I decided to research other vets and get a second opinion. That's when I found Lower East Side Animal Hospital.  When Rosie and I met Dr. Kantor and the rest of the team for the first time it was a great experience!  Instead of pushing me into a costly surgery Dr. Kantor cleaned and bandaged Rosie's wounds (and prescribed antibiotics) and said she wanted to see how much of Rosie's paw could heal on its own before deciding on surgery.  Long story short, the cleaning and bandaging process was repeated a couple times a week for about a month.  Then it was like a miracle, Rosie's paw healed beautifully! She didn't need surgery at all!! I owe it to the patience of Dr. Kantor and team, I can't thank you enough!  Rosie walks, runs and plays just like she did before the accident and I am extremely grateful. Rosie and I have since moved back to Seattle and will greatly miss this animal hospital and it's amazing staff. Read Less

Had my puppy in for his 2 rounds of shots (he had his 1st round already so only needed two rounds)  it was over 700 dollars with the fecal exam then a year later needed to re up on his shots they wanted another 100 for health exam then 50 each shot that's 250, without tax. Went to Unleashed on 2nd Ave paid 80 for all shots the vets are there only once a month for 2 hrs but well worth it also the manager at unleashed said the location in union square has vets every Saturday all day for shots. I can't say enough amazing things about LES Animal Hospital!  The staff there is so great!  More than anything though Dr. Amy Kantor is an angel from heaven!  I've gone to a lot of vets in NYC and Los Angeles.  She is by far the best vet I have ever interacted with.  Not only is she fundamentally a great veterinarian  but an animal lover and her empathy and sympathy are far beyond any vet I have ever dealt with.  I had the unfortunate experience of recently having my yellow lab Zak diagnosed with bone cancer.  Dr. Kantor saved Zak's life!  I took him in for a very common limp and she had the foresight to have x rays done and sent out to make sure it wasn't bone cancer.  Unfortunately the results came back positive.  From the uncomfortable conversation of the diagnosis to her walking me through the treatment options to the amputation I decided on based on all of the facts she gave me, Dr. Kantor was patient, informative and understanding.  Through the process of his amputation, his chemo, and his recovery Dr. Kantor was with me every step of the way.  She even gave me her cell number if I needed anything.  I can never repay her for giving me more time with Zak.  If anyone is trying to find a vet that literally check all the boxes I would unequivocally recommend Dr. Kantor and her team at Lower East Side Animal Hospital. Five. Stars. Xochi and I are in town visiting from Los Angeles, and we went in for possible kennel cough. I feel like we went to a fancy vet in the suburbs, and weren't even charged an arm and a leg for it! I filled out a contact form and they got back to me the very next day. Seeing as that it was Saturday when they called, WOW. Super friendly and fast. We booked an appointment for Tuesday because her symptoms weren't serious, but the vet tech/receptionist over the phone asked me a thorough set of questions to be sure. She was friendly and warm, as were all the employees throughout our line of communication. They called me again to offer a few earlier times after they had some changes in schedule, and we ended up moving up by one hour (I was commuting from pretty far away, so afternoon worked for me). While in the treatment room, Xochi felt good vibes (she's a very timid rescue) and had virtually no issue going to our vet tech. The vet came in and was very thorough about examining her, but didn't freak her out. She was patient and soft in her approach to work with Xochi's nerves. They made sure we were comfortable with our diagnosis and what they did to check her out. We were If you're on the fence - book your appointment. This will be the one and only vet you'll visit. If Xochi and I are ever in town again, this is the only place I'll ever take her in NYC. Thank goodness for this kind, compassionate and affordable place! And the very best news? I rarely write Yelp reviews, but given how much I rave about Lower East Side Animal Hospital, I couldn't not. Everyone there is so friendly and goes above and beyond to be helpful and make my bich-poo puppy, Pierre, and me both feel comfortable. Dr. Kantor especially has been a godsend. Not only does Pierre love her (he doesn't even yelp when she takes his temperature), there have been three specific times when I've been especially grateful for her on a human level: first, when Pierre was a little puppy and got attacked by a bigger dog and I came in freaking out (she got him fixed up and he was fine a week later); when he got neutered and she noticed a broken tooth and called me to ask if I wanted her to go ahead and remove it while he was still under the anesthesia (she talked me through the costs, and the pros/cons of taking it out then versus later on); and when I needed to fly with him to California when he was very very small and to Paris when he was six months, she and her team not only got all the paperwork sorted (and it's a LOT of paperwork to get to Europe), they also called the airline to make sure I hadn't misunderstood anything about procedures and walked me through all the things I could expect on the flight and immigration. Which is to say: they are just above and beyond, every time, and I have no doubts that he is getting great care. I know having a dog in New York is expensive, but they are also very conscious of costs, always breaking everything down and explaining when something is optional, and taking care of all the pet insurance claims so I don't have to submit them. I seriously can't say enough good things...just go to dr. kantor :) Read Less

Dr. Amy Kantor is by far the most thorough, caring, attentive, and skilled doctor and surgeon I've ever encountered, and I've dealt with many over the years of caring for foster dogs and my own senior pup. I have a 12 year old chihuahua with pretty severely damaged knees from his prior life before I adopted him 4 years ago and Dr. Kantor has been there for us for everything since I adopted him - 2 knee surgeries, 2 oral surgeries, many check-ups to keep him as pain-free and healthy as possible. He's a happy & healthy guy today and that is owed to Dr. Kantor. She is literally the ONLY one I trust with him because I know he's in the very very best hands possible. (I've referred many friends and coworkers to her and they've all had wonderful experiences.) She goes above and beyond to give her patients the best care and also takes the time to explain things, talk with you in length - never rushed, always willing to answer any and all questions. Having a senior pup with some previous issues can be stressful and scary but I know as long as we have Dr. Kantor, all is going to be ok!The staff and nurses at LES could also not be nicer! It takes you back a bit because everyone on staff is truly so warm and caring and you don't expect such a high level of service on all accounts. Every time we visit I walk out feeling incredibly lucky my little man is in such good hands with Dr. Kantor and also blown away by the level of service all around. Dr. Sara Fracapane and the staff is fantastic. She will take the time to answer any questions you may have and you can tell she loves helping animals. Dr. Sara also personally called us to check up on our dogs treatment for a skin infection! We recently went to Hope Animal Hospital for our new dogs wellness exam 2 weeks ago and they hardly touched her. Dr. Sara checked every inch of our dog and we are extremely thankful, especially since Hope excuse a skin blemish as nothing. That blemish turned into a skin infection! Thank you, Dr. Sara for taking the time with our dog, she's healing very nicely. Read Less

I stopped going to the LES Animal Hospital after they refused to forward a video of my dog having a hard time breathing to the doctor, saying that sharing the video was against their policy & that I had to bring him in. I sent them the video asking if they think it's urgent or if I could wait and take him in after work. Up until that point, they had been okay but I always felt like they were trying to upsell tests etc. which I find unethical. I don't mind paying more than average, that's why I started taking my dog there in the first place, but I do require excellent service if I do - and it sadly became clear to me that they operate more like a business than an actual hospital. Dr. Amy Kantor literally saved the quality of Maggie's life.  Maggie, a ten-year old pit mix, started limping after playing fetch in the park.   The limping became steadily more pronounced, and it was clear that Maggie was in pain with every step she took.  Dr. Kantor explained that Pitbulls tend to damage their cruciate ligaments quite easily.  Dr. Kantor performed surgery on both knees (at separate times) and Maggie is now running and fetching like a two-year year old dog.  Aside from the perfect surgery results, Dr. Kantor kept me informed every step of the way.   She's thoughtful in her approach and she commands an impressive level of experience.  I highly recommend Dr. Kantor.   Collin Lovas Read Less

The two stars are for the courteous service, but they over medicated my senior kitty. She actually got worse after she went. As it was, they tried to up sell me into services north of $700. I nixed several of those services, but still paid over $400 for my poor cat who now looks like she's on deaths door. She had a rash and a mildly weepy eye, after the eye drops they told me to give her, she can't even open the eye. They prescribed an antihistamine for a rash, now she just lies by her food dish. I stopped giving her the antihistamine a day ago, but she's still listless. I know it's supposed to make her drowsy, but she looked terrible. I called the vet only to find she's gone this week (or maybe doesn't want to talk to me?). I hope they didn't do permanent damage, I'm just sick about it. They had a lot of appointments open when I called, now I know why. I hope I'm wrong and it was an honest mistake, but I'm afraid I got fleeced at the expense of my poor cat. FOLLOW UP: My cat is doing much better after taking her off of the meds. I am taking her to a follow up appointment to a different doctor (also at LES Animal Hospital). Read Less

These are some of the nicest and warmest people who care for animals. They are definitely not cheap but vet's in NYC are usually not. For the amount of money spent I felt I received a thorough exam and detailed understanding of my dog's ailments. The only thing I didn't really like is that they gave my dog some liquid medicine while I was there (with my permission) but didn't tell me there would be an extra charge. Thank you so much to Dr Chu and the team at Lower East Side Animal Hospital! My husband and I were travelling a few hours later in the day back to Los Angeles and woke up to our pug puppy "leeloo" sneezing, mucous coming out of her nose and foaming at the mouth.  Although we didn't have an appointment Dr Chu agreed to squeeze us in with a short wait.  They did x-rays to rule out pneumonia and put her in an oxygen therapy unit for a few minutes.  They also gave us some liquid antibiotics but mostly they gave us HOPE as when they brought her back out she seemed her normal cheerful pug self.We made it to the airport in time AND made it home with Leeloo breathing fine (and sleeping) most of the flight home.   We're happy to report that she's feeling  much better and we're continuing the antibiotics as instructed. Many thanks to Dr Chu and her team for taking good care of us; we appreciate you making it a priority so we could get home knowing Leeloo was safe and feeling better Read Less

Exceptional care from people who clearly CARE about your pet. My dog has been going to Heart OF Chelsea Animal Hospital since she was born, and she has been a patient of lower east side since they opened. The doctors are patient and always take time to explain everything, no matter what question you may have, no matter how seemingly ridiculous as it may be. I was happy here because it is clean and was convenient but I guess I will be looking for a new vet because they are currently doing their best to rip me off for an insane amount of money with an incredibly un-transparent and high quote for a simple tooth cleaning procedure.Yes the place is nice and Manhattan vets are all expensive so for regular check ups and kennel cough boosters it was fine I guess. That said I have never walked out of here without feeling the pain of a bill that seems high for what was done given that my dog is young and healthy. The straw that broke the camel's back is the quote for teeth cleaning for my four year old pup, who just needs tartar removed from four teeth (it had built up on just a few because a few puppy teeth took a long time to fall out). All in all they quoted me over $1000 plus $80 for an ECG that happened without me being told it would be going on and just appeared on my bill..... So $1100+The quote has a dental 'package' at $480 and then an additional $500+ of other charges. What is in the dental package is not listed and I had to request clarification more than once in writing.. once you see what is included it gets worse! Many of the extras that the vet supposedly thinks necessary - from a 10 second glance at my dog's teeth - are nonsense. Antibiotics are in the package, but an additional $80+ is added for Convenia (an antibiotic). Ditto pain relief - included in the package but appearing again for over $50 (for an NSAID for a 20lb dog). My dog shows no signs of damaged teeth but the quote includes x-rays, extractions and laser therapy for $380.Just to find out what the hell these charges are for was a huge pain in the neck and at no point did a vet justify them. I received their apologies for confusion. I'm not confused - I'm angry that you are trying to overcharge me to such a crazy degree! I tried this place because Heart of Chelsea had good reviews, but I have never seen the same vet twice. The care is fine but no different than elsewhere. So what is the high cost for exactly? Let's start with this place is a rip off. I came here for my cat's check up with specific complaints. She had an ear infection and two more other issues I wanted the vet to address. - The vet checked my cat's ear first using the otoscope on the infected ear and then used the SAME tip checking the healthy ear. I guess that will get infected now also.  - The oral antibiotic's direction printed on the bottle is different than the vet told me in the office. I checked the recommended dosing and it turned out the way she explained originally was correct. The instructions printed on the prescription were NOT correct! It makes a big difference if I give it once or twice a day!!!- The vet refused to give ear drops without cytology (which of course cost X more dollars). I have never had a vet doing this test before and the RX always fixed the ear infection. I find this behavior totally unacceptable. Imagine if one told to their (human) patient:  if you can't give a urine sample, I will not treat your urinary tract symptoms.THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!!!! Read Less

I begrudgingly called this hospital, 45 minutes walk from my place, because places closer in Brooklyn wouldn't take my dog for a travel health certificate because "they were booked".  Of course they didn't tell me that until AFTER I told them the whole story about me not living here, so I'm curious...  The closest vet left and the only place left that we wouldn't have to take a cab in (pet taxi is minimum $45) was this place in Manhattan, so I figured Domino & I will just take a casual hour stroll there and back IF they chose to accept us.Well, the 5-star experience began the moment I called them.  Super nice guy on the phone, no problem for a Saturday morning appointment sine we had to walk and it would be coolest then.  We walk in this morning to a super clean interior, and the super nice lady at the reception desk greets us.  Then the super nice nurse(?) takes us in just 10 minutes or so later, and then super nice Dr. Chu (she is really pretty..) examines him and we get the go-ahead.  Despite the $100 charge for a certificate (very expensive by LV standards but maybe that's the going rate in Manhattan?), I felt so appreciated by their service, knowing that we are likely not coming back.I really like our vet in Vegas, Gentle Doctor, but these guys take service to another level.  Even the patients' human parents were so nice, I'm suspicious that they might emit some type of gas inside that just makes everyone be nice to each other.  We need to spray that all over earth. I moved my 8 year old pug here from Australia last year; he had had the same (amazing) vet his whole life so I took the search for a new one here in the US very seriously.

Read Less

Can't complain about the facility it's very clean and really nice inside the vets are also very nice but the price point is really over priced. Xochi hasn't coughed except once since we saw them! Thank you for making my baby well LES Animal Hospital! Read Less

Clearly, I would recommend Dr. Kantor and LES to everyone who cares about the health and wellbeing of their beloved animals! :) Read Less
