I recently got both a 1 year old tuxedo cat and Sphynx kitten, and Dr. Lander and her staff have gone above and beyond making me feel comfortable and confident as a cat dad. Dr. Lander is calm, extremely intelligent, and very helpful in determining diets, adjusting behaviors, and making sure both my cats are healthy, and are treated well. Eve at the front desk has always been friendly and sweet, and efficient. She always remembers my name which is lovely!When prescribing any treatment, the staff always calls not even 2-3 days after starting treatment, and then any additional questions or concerns that I have are addressed by a personal call by the vet on staff that day. I have been taking my two cats to the New York Cat Hospital for over 3 years, and the staff has always been phenomenal. Dr. Soboroff and his colleagues are very thorough, gentle, and are wonderful with my kitties (same with any other cats I've glimpsed being treated). The vets are always clear about the diagnosis, treatment options, costs (and alternatives, if available). Moreover, whenever either cat has required urgent care, we were able to get an appointment right away and could get in touch with Dr. Soboroff after hours for emergency advice - far better treatment than most human hospitals. I am am so glad I found Dr. Soboroff and New York Cat Hospital for my girls. I have a diabetic cat, she recently had to have oral surgery and on top of that she seems to have allergies. Needless to say we need to go to the Vet fairly often. Dr. Soboroff is so gentle with her, he clearly loves what he does and is knowledgeable in his field. He offers solutions and advice to take care of your pet without having to break the bank. He recommends what is absolutely necessary and you should listen to him because he will be right. My old girl became like a new kitten once Dr. Soboroff helped regulate her diabetes and took care of all those painful teeth. Dr. Soboroff is an amazing veterinarian! He is so great with both of our cats and displays a calm demeanor and patience, putting everyone at ease. Our male cat is not a huge fan of getting check-ups and tends to hiss and growl, but he is all talk. Dr. Soboroff speaks softly and does not manhandle him, but instead gains a little bit of his trust to get through the exam. Our female cat definitely prefers Dr. Soboroff to other vets and did not even flinch when getting her rabies vaccination. We tend to ask many questions and express concerns which he addresses thoroughly, recommends options, tests or treatments, but will never push for anything unnecessary just to charge your account. I brought my cat all the way from Queens because I read the good reviews. After frustrating treatments and misdiagnosis - I wanted to bring my cat to a "hospital" where they specialized in cats. My cat was going around in circles and she seemed like she lost her eye sight. I was really worried about her. First of all they did not tell me that the head - Dr. Soberoff will not be seeing my cat and that it was his day off so his associate would see my cat. She did a bunch of tests that did not seem necessary like xray and a thyroid test...I was specifically there to address what was happening neurologically with my cat. In the end, there was no diagnosis nor medication - nothing... I was very shocked and in disbelief that Dr. Lander did not even address the seriousness of my cat circling and the blood clots she had the prior week.I ended up with a huge bill for tests that my cat did not need. This place is not a hospital it's a regular vet office where they do general check up and address non serious ailments. Anything more complicated, I feel like they can not handle. Granted it's in a nice neighborhood, they have a nice decor, and they know how to present themselves however the real treatment and the doctor's work- they fall dangerously short. I saw Dr. Lander to get an opinion on my cat.  I appreciated her clear explanation of my cat's health situation and her thorough manual exam of my cat's body and mouth.  The receptionist was friendly. The vet techs seem skilled at handling cats and were very pleasant.  I liked the decor, which is warm instead of having that sterile white-walled clinic appearance.  There are several cats and a dog lounging around in the reception area, which makes the place feel homey. I drove my cat over an hour to see Dr. Lander after 2 top rated Astoria vets failed to help my cat's issues with IBS. I keep my cat's test records so I brought with me her last two blood work charts which showed all was normal except a slightly elevated liver enzyme. I kept being told by those 2 other Astoria vets that everything is normal and "there's nothing we can do at this stage" Meanwhile my poor cat was uncomfortable from the IBS and throwing up almost daily.  Refusing to believe there was "nothing that could be done" to help I took my cat's last two blood work charts to The Cat Hospital. Where Dr. Lander reviewed the charts in great detail and noticed they hadn't check my cat's B-12 level... Which ended up being very low. I now give my cat super easy to do B-12 injections at home. Having recently moved to the Upper West Side, we were looking for a vet for our young cat. Based on consistently strong Yelp reviews, we made an appointment with Dr. Soberoff who was very nice and had a good bedside manner. He took a considerable amount of time to chat with us during our cat's annual check-up about his eating habits and health management. However, a couple days later, our cat developed a corneal ulcer, and we took him somewhere else where within two minutes of examining our cat, the vet discovered a lump in his throat that required a biopsy.It was concerning in hindsight that during a normal exam, Dr. Soberoff was not thorough enough to catch this serious health concern in our cat. While, the strong bedside manner was appreciated, the fact he didn't see this will ensure that we will take our cat to a different vet in the future. Read Less

I have a 12 year old cat who was very ill last summer. I made several trips with my Kitty to a Vet in Harlem and although she knew what the issue was her treatment was not working. By the end of the summer my kitty lost 6 pounds and I did not think he was going to live. I decided to change Vets and found New York Cat Hospital. The staff was very nice and easy to work with. A lovely man, Dr Soberoff is a cat whisperer. My frightened boy calms right down and almost looks relaxed as Dr S palpates and examines him. He gives him kisses! And tells him how handsome he is!!!I found another vet who makes house calls, which I thought would be better as he's so frightened of being in a car. My cat yowled as she examined him, which she blamed on him as being "typical of his breed". Then her assistant drew blood and my boy screamed with a voice I never heard in his 13 years. She apologized and said this was due to him being the type of breed who doesn't like to be restrained. Screw you, lady. Back uptown to Dr Soberoff - my boy made not one peep while his blood was drawn. I will never again make the mistake of taking my baby to anyone other than NYCs best vet - Dr Soberoff. Read Less

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr Soboroff. He lives up to all the reviews! He has a great attention to detail and is great with handling my cat! He is very dedicated to his job - I've received calls from him after hours and on weekends just to address any questions/concerns I had. He has great suggestions without being pushy or selling anything. He evaluated my senior cat's blood work and suggested a change in her diet (even referring me to multiple places where I could find the food at a good price), which actually improved her kidney results. Even after moving to Jersey City, I won't take my kitty anywhere else. He is worth the extra drive time! The visits are bit more expensive than elsewhere, but the pricing is very transparent and certainly worth it for the service! Also, the staff is just as great! I tried many others, including one that nearly killed my allergy-riddent kitties. This is the place to entrust the care of your loved animal friends to. Dr. Peter Soboroff (my cats' doctor) is so knowledgeable, understanding and loving that it is hard to express in words. The staff are great, the care is great, and what they cannot do, they immediately refer you to a specialist or a trusted animal hospital instead of pretending in order to get your business and money. I went to see Dr. Soboroff for the first time this week.  He was fantastic.  I like that he errs on the side of ordering only test/procedures that are absolutely necessary, but also took a preventative view on cat health by educating owners like us about what symptoms to look out for.  The office was pristine and the staff was very helpful with figuring out the paperwork for my cat's past medical history and insurance.   I am very impressed and will be taking my kitties back for future check ups too. The office is beautiful, the staff is extraordinary! They go above and beyond, they are not only cat friendly they are people friendly too, (that was important to me after having been snapped at by my previous vet for my choice in carriers) The office is cat only so the waiting area is stress free and actually pleasant. My cat needed surgery and the office again went above and beyond, their follow up on my cat was better than my own Dr. after I had surgery! This is the BEST cat hospital I have ever encountered. Dr. Soboroff and his staff are the most caring people I have met in any cat/animal hospital. The Clinic gives of a very trusting and relaxing ambiance. The front desk/reception staff are very friendly and efficient. Dr. Soboroff truly listens to his clients very carefully and is extremely thorough in every step of the way to finding out all about my cat's health issue. I have had 2 of my cats treated by him. One unfortunately had a too progressed cancer that could not be saved and that I took to his clinic too late and had to be put to sleep...I could not have chosen a better place to have my cat put to rest. Dr. Soboroff really has his ""know how"" to deal with these difficult moments to let a beloved cat rest in peace... The second cat (kitty 11 months ) had a mass in her ear that has been treated and taken out surgically at his clinic. My cat after remained in his hospital for 4 days and every day Dr. Soboroff called me and gave me a thorough update about how my cat was progressing and doing well. Dr. Peter H. Soboroff was so amazing with my cat. I only wish I'd known about him earlier, as my cat has tried to attack two other vets and has thrown serious tantrums whenever she is visiting the vet. With Dr. Soboroff, she didn't even notice he was giving her shots. He was very patient with making her feel safe and calm, and he was also extremely thorough in helping me prepare for an uncoming plane flight with my cat, and listing out everything I needed to be aware of' giving me pads to line the carrier, etc. Because the office and the staff are all so pleasant and professional, I just expected the prices to be higher too, but it was actually cheaper than my previous no-frills vet in the area. Dr. Soberoff has been taking care of my eight cats for seven years. Yes, I am one of those crazy cat ladies who would do anything for my cats! They are part of my family, so you can understand how finicky I am when it comes to their care and their health. Dr. Soberoff is THE ONLY VET I trust them with. He is incredible. He truly loves cats and his practice solely focuses on them, which to me makes a huge difference. For example, I don't have to share a waiting room with dogs, which can really upset my cats. Furthermore, Dr. Soberoff is very patient - as you can imagine I ask a ton of questions. Plus, he always greets them by their names, talks to them in a calm manner to soothe them during an exam, is incredibly knowledgeable and has a immense compassion for animals. Dr. Soberoff is the most kind and caring vet I have ever encountered. A couple of years ago, after I had to put one of my two kitties to sleep, I got a letter from the Cornell School of Veterinary Medicine letting me know that Dr. Soberoff had made a donation to the school in the name of my kitty. It was one of the most touching gestures I've ever experienced. I've had some icky experiences with vets in the city, but I LOVE Dr Soboroff. My cat was neutered at the NY Cat Hospital and the Dr called me personally to let me know that everything was going well and they were about to do the surgery. It was very reassuring because I could tell he really cared about my kitty. He answered all of my questions and I didn't have to wait at all. It's really sweet to find a doctor who cares enough to house foster cats in his own space. The kitties in the office were really funny and made me feel like I could trust him leaving my baby there all day. I plan to keep using Dr S, even though he's 120 blocks away- I'll make the trip. Dr. Soboroff is a true treasure for any cat lover. The first time we brought our 16 year-old tabby in for a check-up, Dr. Soboroff gave our little furry boy a sweet kiss after the exam. Dr. Soboroff was always so gentle and patient during our visits. Most importantly, Dr. Soboroff always took plenty of time to thoroughly explain all medical issues, answer any questions, and was remarkably skilled in helping to solve even the most baffling of kitty health and/or behavior issues. Our beloved tabby was already diagnosed with a variety of elderly cat-related health issues (kidney failure, diabetes, and more) when we first discovered Dr. Soboroff after moving to the neighborhood. Thanks to the compassion and kindness of Dr. Soboroff and his wonderful staff, our beloved tabby enjoyed his last year in great comfort and excellent care. One of these days we will adopt another kitty cat, perhaps one of the pampered strays that Dr. Soboroff's office so generously provides foster care to. We certainly know that with Dr. Soboroff, any cat we adopt will receive the very best care. PS: In reading the earlier reviews, I notice that some visitors made reference to wait times. Yes, sometimes you are kept waiting, but more importantly, you should know that Dr. Soboroff is incredibly generous with his time, and you will never feel rushed while he is taking care of your cat. I took my cat to Dr. Soboroff because she was not eating. Dr. Soboroff and his staff quickly and efficiently got to the bottom of this problem (discovering that my cat had a potentially life threatening liver disease). They gave her the best care possible and now she's doing great. I have been a pet owner for nearly 30 years and I have never encountered such a caring vet. Throughout my cat's week-long hospital stay Dr. Soboroff and his staff kept me completely informed and took great care of the cat. He and his staff clearly love cats . His office is very clean also. Dr. Soboroff is truly a caring vet - he takes time to get to know your cat, and the examination is thorough. Over all I highly recommend him - he is hands down the best vet I have encountered. The staff is OK. They seemed friendly enough. The place is VERY clean. However... he makes you wait. I had 3 appointments so far and always had to wait for 20-30 minutes (and yes, I was on time for my appointment). I just moved to the city a little while ago and one of my cats got sick so I needed to find a veterinarian fast. I looked on this website and found New York Cat hospital, all the reviews were great and it was relatively close by. I called the place around 9 30 pm (after hours) because of an emergency with my cat, and I got right through to Dr. Soboroff who was staying late at the hospital. He told me to come right over even though I was not technically a patient yet. When we got there Dr. Soboroff examined my cat and ran some tests on her. She was still sick after that for a couple weeks, and Dr. Soboroff and staff were relentless at finding out what was wrong. He was amazing, and so unbelievable with my cat. When I took my sweet to us a-hole to strangers cat Frances Alberta to Dr. Soboroff she was terribly sick and despondent. The place is clean and modern with marble examining tables that are high up so the cat feels more at ease. The woman at the front desk gave us an appointment immediately, was incredibly kind and didn't give us any weird looks when we brought Frances Alberta in an old gym bag (my boyfriend lives next door and Frances refused her small traveling bag), But the real prize here is Dr. Soboroff ! He is so gentle and kind! While he performed the exam he cooed sweet nothings and soothing words of praise. His exam was quite thorough and even when he was looking under her tail a ""hell-no"" area-Frances could only bat her eye lashes and blush she had fallen so in love with him. Dr. Soboroff was never snooty or judgemental. I have seen other vets that are nice enough to the animal but when it comes to suggesting care they become steely and cold and lecture you rather than converse.. Not so here, Dr. Soboroff talked to me and my boyfriend with total understanding of how much we loved our cat and wanted the best for her. He was concerned and calm and competent with no guilt trips. He gave us four cans of expensive cat food free, free kibble,and of course a snazzy new cat carry bag for Frances on the house! After we left the vets office Frances was miles better already having experienced Dr. S's procedure for rehydration and a shot of anti-nausea medicine. The protocol he gave us to follow was right on the money and now I have my nine year old cat back with energy and zeal I haven't seen from her since she was a kitten! After the visit, in the days of her recovery, Dr. Soboroff returned every one of our calls, even voluntering to stay late at his office so we could pick up some more FREE food. This place is a gem! We visited Dr. Soboroff at the New York Cat Hospital after reading some good reviews on citysearch. The service was excellent and I would highly recommend this cat-only vet to other cat owners. One of our cats is very particular with vets but Dr Soboroff passed the test with flying colors; he was extremely gentle and patient. Furthermore this is a cat-only clinic which lowers the stress on cats. Previously we would visit dog and cat clinics but there would be a lot of dogs running around, barking, bumping into cages which would agitate our cats. All in all, a very pleasant vet experience, and I would highly recommend. Read Less

I have a cat and a canine and I usually take both to the same vet but a friend of mine suggested that I make an appointment to see Dr. Soboroff. Upon making the appoinment the frontdesk was pleasant and courteous and was patient with the questions I asked. When I went in for my appointment a day later I was greeted warmly by the staff, they introduced themselves and appeared to be very interested in my cat. He was very calm considering that any other time we had an appointment with my other vet he would be miserable and hissed the whole time. When Dr. Soboroff came out to see us he was gentle with my feline son and me as well. My visit wasn't rushed and my bill was not expensive (he is located in the trump buildings). I had Lab work done and he called when he received them and was thorough with the results.
