We've been using Riverside (North) for several years now, first with a senior pug who we eventually needed to say goodbye to at sixteen and a half years, and now with two pug puppies. So we've been with Riverside (and in particular Dr. Cawein, although we like everyone there) through a lot - regular check ups, hand-holding through IV fluid administering, counseling for end-of-life treatment until it becomes the wrong thing, tears, and eventually pediatric visits and crazy pup...py stuff. We really feel that we've seen them - and they've seen us - through the whole spectrum, and we're very happy with them. Watching Mona get older and older, lose her sight, lose her hearing, and develop kidney problems was incredibly difficult. We didn't know what to do. We didn't want to euthanize because she was an inconvenience, but we weren't ready to say goodbye, and it seemed that she still had quality of life and knew that she was loved and safe. Riverside and Dr. Cawein talked us through the whole process, and one conversation sticks with me to this day. Paraphrasing: "It's going to be work, and as long as I think you're up to it and on balance Mona is not in pain, I'll support you. But I want you to promise me that you'll listen to me when I think it's time to let go." And that's what we did, and it created a special place in our hearts for Dr. Cawein. When we were finally ready to open our hearts and home again, there was no doubt that Riverside would be our vets. Dr. C and the whole team have been wonderful with Bokkie and Thula, steering us through questions about vaccinations, checking in when we're worried about eating or drinking or all of the other crazy puppy stuff that happens at the other end, and being there just to understand how insane it is to have puppies - not sleeping, always cleaning up poop, always wondering where that vague smell of urine is coming from. I've had vets in Manhattan for about twenty years, and lived in a few different neighborhoods, so I've regularly used at least four vets. I've been really lucky; I've never had a vet who I would warn people away from, and I've never met a vet or a tech or a front desk team that I thought wasn't doing their best. Riverside is no different. It feels warm, it feels friendly, it feels professional, and given the breadth of experiences I've had with them, I'm very comfortable saying that you should trust them, and know that you're little loved one is in good hands.
