I have been a long standing client of West Chelsea Veterinary. It is no longer the quant local veterinary hospital it used to be. They used to preform routine exams, cleaning ears, nails, scent glands and drawing blood while you were in the room and these procedures were always done by the doctor. Now, the tech assistant will escort you to an exam room where the doctor is waiting. You discuss your pet issues or as in my case it was a routine exam to receive a travel health certificate. After discussing my dogs health issues with the doctor. They took my dog to the back room which they started to due a few years back, which I have to say... I did not appreciate. Then they have you go wait in the front reception area. While they preformed routine procedures. Well, again mine visit was not an emergency, I just needed a health certificate to fly. My dog did need blood work. I waited about 30 minutes in the reception area and then a different assistant from the one that was assisting the doctor came out with my dog, she handed me my dog and said that they cleaned my pets scent glands and that "they were full, they were hard and it was painful for your pet. I have to say, I was a little stunned as I did not ask for the scent glands to be cleaned. I paid my bill and went home. When I got home that day, I know my dog was not feeling well, by the next day, my dog was in trouble and I had to rush my dog to the vet, they had to lance the infected scent gland. When I told the doctor what happened and how one of the assistants came out with my dog the day before and said it was a difficult procedure, one that I did not even ask for. The doctor indicated that she could not remember which assistant did the procedure!!!Well, I thought the DOCTOR was preforming the procedures and doing the routine health exam and NOT SOME ASSISTANT who is not qualified or educated to preform veterinary exams. If my dog had a problem the assistant should have INFORMED THE DOCTOR, who I thought was in the know. But after the emergency visit and close to $1500 later, the doctor I thought was preforming a routine health care exam, was clueless to what had happened! Sorry to say... after 20 some years... Dr. Farber, your office is not what it use to be. Your staff of doctors are only preforming patch and past jobs and not addressing the bigger issues. My dog has been plagued with ear issues for years, they have given me cleaning solutions and an ointments however... NOT ONCE DID ANYONE EVER LOOK INTO MY DOGS EAR CANALS. Which in dogs, the ear canals are very long and they get hair built up and need proper cleaning, especially when a dog is plaque with ear issues for years, you would think they would get a scope and LOOK INSIDE! Hello! You would think all the times I had to bring my dog in for a routine exams and to get her teeth cleaned that when my pet was sedated they would CLEAN THE EARS... no NEVER!My dog is now deaf! And I had to have my dog ears cleaned out where they had to sedate my pet to preform this. I am wondering if only the doctors at West Chelsea Vets, if only they looked down the ear canal 12 years ago and addressed the issue back then and not just clean it with a cotton ball and have me put ointment to stop my pet from itching. It's like if you know a dog has ear itching issues, you would think a doctor would LOOK INSIDE to see what is going on. This was NEVER DONE IN 12 + YEARS. It's like cleaning my dog teeth which was done every year...you sedated my pet and clean the teeth, at that time you also could have really cleaned the dogs ear canals. If you had only done this...I wonder if my dog could hear today! Every time I brought my pet in I told the vet that my pet is continually itching the ears. No it is not the nice little Veterinarian around the corner. It is a factor and assistances with no Veterinarian education are preforming procedures on your pet that the doctors should be!!! I am never going back. On another visit the vet recommended my dog getting a sonogram well $1300 later, they told me she had cancer of the spleen and gave me medicine to give every day. Well, I took my pet to another vet and they told me that you never give a little dog this size this medicine. It is worst then the diagnosis causing my pet to eat like crazy. He also said you can not tell if your pet has cancer from a sonogram, her blood work is fine, kidneys are fine, liver is fine. True my pet is 15 years old but this medicine will surly kill her before the cancer will if she has cancer. I took her off the medicine she dropped the weight and is STILL ALIVE after West Chelsea Veterinarian said I would be LUCKY TO IF SHE LASTED UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR... my dog is still with me. DON'T GO TO THE VET. YOU WAIT FOREVER TO SEE THE VET. USUALLY AN HOUR AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT AND THEY CHARGE YOU AN ARM AND A LEG AND THE DOCTORS DO NOT PREFORM THE ROUTINE HEALT PROCEDURES. Read Less
