Dr. Meltzer is simply extraordinary. She has always gone above and beyond, not just providing the highest standard of care, but also tangible support to ensure that our pet has always had the best quality of life. As long as she is seeing patients, our pet will be among them.We started visiting the (then) Yorkville Animal hospital during our years living across the street, but we've stayed with them through our move further uptown...and ultimately have come back to Dr. Meltzer even though we now live in Westchester. Not to diminish the skill of our Westchester vets, when we noticed a suspicious lump on our beloved 13yr old Lhasa 3 years after moving out of the City, we immediately brought her back to see Dr. Meltzer--and boy, are we glad we did. Dr. Meltzer is skilled, thorough, compassionate, detail-oriented and just plain kind. Long story short, she saved our dog and we will always be grateful. When we found the lump, we brought her in the next day. Dr. Meltzer ran a number of tests (prioritizing the urgent ones) and promptly referred us to a specialist once she felt there was a chance of lymphoma. She literally called as soon as each test result came back. She listened, patiently educated, counselled and made us feel included and empowered. After the referral, she continued to follow up repeatedly (including with a number of calls to offer support and help us understand our options as they came into focus). She coordinated with the canine oncologist (who is an excellent referral, by the way) and helped us act swiftly to get our dog into the right treatment protocol. Chemo is progressing well, and Dr. Meltzer continues to call and check on our pet and offer assistance, advice and support. All signs point to Isabel making it to her 14th birthday and beyond--and Dr. Meltzer has the abiding gratitude of our whole family (including a 2 and a 5 year old, so especially glad we don't have to have "that" conversation yet...). We've been very lucky (and Dr. Meltzer has contributed to this) to have had over 12 years of great health for our pet. We thought we could manage without her once we left the City, but as soon as we felt that lump, we didn't hesitate to come home to our trusted vet, and of course, she didn't disappoint. Even if we hadn't been so fortunate in the outcome, we would still be grateful that she has never left a stone unturned. PS, the whole team at the One Love hospital is great--example? We've carried pet insurance for years and were worried that they wouldn't actually deliver in a crisis--the team at One Love walked us through the paperwork and helped us get everything in order quickly and efficiently--and in time to have the costly chemo protocol preauthorized before her first treatment, which was a huge relief.
