We recently took our youngest cat their after experiencing declining service from our long standing vet. We were very impressed with our experience from making the appointment to the actual appointment itself. Dr. Scharf & his staff are very friendly . Dr. Scharf did not rush to examine our cat, rather he took some time to talk with us about our pet and his approach to veterinary medicine so our cat could have a few minutes to adjust to his voice & his presence. His examination was one of the most complete I have ever seen. He addressed all our concerns and then some. We plan to return and will likely have them begin to see our other 2 cats.

What a fantastic experience me and my pets had at our first visit to AH of Niskayuna. The staff is very friendly and WOW Dr. Scharf was truly amazing. What a complete and thorough exam. Not one of these "get em in, get em out" Veterinary practices who are all about the money. He listened to my every concern and my usual anxious pets felt so comfortable in his care. So lucky to have found AH!!!!

A little over a year ago I called the Niskayuna Animal Hospital with questions about an allergy test and to voice concern with dermatologic problems . She has been having issues with her skin and hair for the last 2 years and she would lose hair, itchy skin and had many rashes all over her body. She also gained a quarter of her weight in a few months. I been taking her to Benfield since she was 8 weeks old and they kept giving me different medication and creams ($200 here, $300 more for something else€plus a plan fee that I have been paying every month) but the problem never went away regardless of how much money we spent.
My husband and I started looking for answers online till we decided that an allergy test was due to find out what her problem is. We made an appointment with doctor Scharf to conduct the test. The test was not only done on site, but it was quick and painless. The blood work was sent to a lab and 10 days later we got a detailed report that explained what my Golden was exactly allergic to and also found out she had a Thyroid problem (something that Banfield never detected in 3 & years of service including blood work twice a year). From that day on the doctor prescribed her with thyroid medicine, allergy pills and asked to see her in 3 weeks. Zoey has been a different dog since. She is back to her normal weight and energy level. She got her hair back within 2 months and now with a balanced diet and excellent care from Niskayuna Animal Hospital I can say I am a very happy customer. I can€t imagine still going to Banfield and getting no positive results€The care that doctor Scharf and his staff has put into my pets life is priceless. I also have to say that the doctor is truly dedicated to do what€s right (regardless if financial benefit). For these reasons and many more I am a very happy customer and I will recommend it to everyone!

Excellent service by Dr. Sharf and his staff. I have been bringing my pets to him for 20 years. I just recently brought my cat, Anthony there for his annual check up and once again, we received excellent service. He answered all my questions and never made me feel that he was in a rush to get to the next patient. I highly recommend Dr. Sharf at the Animal Hospital of Niskayuna!

AVOID THIS CLINIC AT ALL COSTS. This doctor does NOT care about animals. There are many quality vets offices in the area that offer quality care and this is not one of them. He spoke to me as if I was a child and the advice he gave me about my dog was inaccurate and outdated. He was unable to give a clear diagnosis of a simple medical issue that was immediately diagnosed and properly treated when seen by another vet. He should close his doors and move on into retirement, he clearly is incapable of running an office. Just look at the staff here - always turning over every few months. No one wants to be around him. I looked at the kennel and it was a cold, dingy, bug infested jail. Also, there was a male technician who smelled like marijuana which made me very uncomfortable - using drugs and working with sick animals should not be allowed and is frightening. The prices might seem decent but the guy is just dying for MONEY and uses that to get you in the door. I hope he sees this review as constructive criticism, as it is very sad that an establishment that has been around for so long is being ruined. As for the comment below, I can only say, read the former reviews. Clearly there has been major dissatisfaction from other clients who have visited this doctor and I am not the only one who feels this way. Get quality care from vets who are compassionate at other offices. Furthermore, this is being written from the position of a client who is dissatisfied, not a transient employee as alleged.

Visited Dr. Scharf today with my Mia! He was very gentle and really has a passion for what he does. The location is great and they are opened Saturday's. I live in Schenectady and had bad experiences with vets around our area. Found this animal hospital in Niskayuna through a mutual friend and so glad we came here. He told us our options and gave my Yorkie poo a thorough exam. Shannon was very nice at the front and welcomes me to the area. It was great to come in on a Saturday, they are accommodating and the fees are reasonable to other vet clinics. I highly recommend this veterinarian and his staff.

The actual kennel is terribly cold and ill maintained, surgeries are performed with few sanitary measures and I should have reported him to AAHA when I had problems with this office. I sincerely advise anyone considering this practice to find another vet. The prices are high and the care is not worth it. Because it is a small practice and the staff is small procedures such as blood withdrawal and other vet tech specific jobs are given to people that are not qualified to do them. Boarded animals are fed whatever is cheap and food specifically left for your pet will probably be thrown out or fed to other animals. Walks cost extra and the cage doors are rusting apart. I can tell you firsthand that two dogs were given high doses of a drug accidentally and blinded as a result and all the owners got was a "sorry" and a chance at a lawsuit. Do your research about other vets in the area and be very wary of Ronald Scharfs practice.

Dr. Scharf was my family's veterinarian for the last 15 years, and we have been loyal customers. My dog was injured and was being treated by a specialist and needed his bandages changed as well as a urinary catheter on a Saturday when the specialist was closed. Dr. Scharf's clinic is always open on Saturdays so I scheduled an appointment with him, expecting his charges to be less than that of a specialist. After performing the necessary treatment, I was billed $240, more than twice that of the specialist. A few hours later, when my dog tried to urinate, there was blood in his urine, a problem that had NEVER occurred until after he saw Dr. Scharf. When I called to discuss the charges and explain the situation, the office manager was not helpful and rather than offer to make things right, she had no problem allowing a loyal customer of 15 years leave the practice.

I did not have a pleasant experience at this office. I would say this vet is mainly in practice for the money. He did not have one positive comment to make regarding my pet. He continued to find things wrong that would cost lots of money. He offered no advice or any suggestions on anything I might do as a pet owner, but offered $300.00 to $400.00 worth of services. He must have asked me three times if my pet needed "flea and tick" treatment, although I indicated the pet did not. He even took a flea comb and went down the back of my pet to make sure I was telling the truthe, I guess? about my pet not having any fleas or ticks. Needless to say, I did not leave this vet's office with ANY good feelings about the 200.00 I spent for a rabies shot for my pet. I will NOT be returning here.

We recently took our youngest cat their after experiencing declining service from our long standing vet. We were very impressed with our experience from making the appointment to the actual appointment itself. Dr. Scharf & his staff are very friendly . Dr. Scharf did not rush to examine our cat, rather he took some time to talk with us about our pet and his approach to veterinary medicine so our cat could have a few minutes to adjust to his voice & his presence. His examination was one of the most complete I have ever seen. He addressed all our concerns and then some. We plan to return and will likely have them begin to see our other 2 cats.

What a fantastic experience me and my pets had at our first visit to AH of Niskayuna. The staff is very friendly and WOW Dr. Scharf was truly amazing. What a complete and thorough exam. Not one of these "get em in, get em out" Veterinary practices who are all about the money. He listened to my every concern and my usual anxious pets felt so comfortable in his care. So lucky to have found AH!!!!

A little over a year ago I called the Niskayuna Animal Hospital with questions about an allergy test and to voice concern with dermatologic problems . She has been having issues with her skin and hair for the last 2 years and she would lose hair, itchy skin and had many rashes all over her body. She also gained a quarter of her weight in a few months. I been taking her to Benfield since she was 8 weeks old and they kept giving me different medication and creams ($200 here, $300 more for something else€plus a plan fee that I have been paying every month) but the problem never went away regardless of how much money we spent.
My husband and I started looking for answers online till we decided that an allergy test was due to find out what her problem is. We made an appointment with doctor Scharf to conduct the test. The test was not only done on site, but it was quick and painless. The blood work was sent to a lab and 10 days later we got a detailed report that explained what my Golden was exactly allergic to and also found out she had a Thyroid problem (something that Banfield never detected in 3 & years of service including blood work twice a year). From that day on the doctor prescribed her with thyroid medicine, allergy pills and asked to see her in 3 weeks. Zoey has been a different dog since. She is back to her normal weight and energy level. She got her hair back within 2 months and now with a balanced diet and excellent care from Niskayuna Animal Hospital I can say I am a very happy customer. I can€t imagine still going to Banfield and getting no positive results€The care that doctor Scharf and his staff has put into my pets life is priceless. I also have to say that the doctor is truly dedicated to do what€s right (regardless if financial benefit). For these reasons and many more I am a very happy customer and I will recommend it to everyone!

Excellent service by Dr. Sharf and his staff. I have been bringing my pets to him for 20 years. I just recently brought my cat, Anthony there for his annual check up and once again, we received excellent service. He answered all my questions and never made me feel that he was in a rush to get to the next patient. I highly recommend Dr. Sharf at the Animal Hospital of Niskayuna!

We have been going to Dr Scharf since he took over the Animal Hospital of Niskayuna, and we wouldn't go anywhere else. He cares for our dogs as if they were his own, and we completely trust him.

AVOID THIS CLINIC AT ALL COSTS. This doctor does NOT care about animals. There are many quality vets offices in the area that offer quality care and this is not one of them. He spoke to me as if I was a child and the advice he gave me about my dog was inaccurate and outdated. He was unable to give a clear diagnosis of a simple medical issue that was immediately diagnosed and properly treated when seen by another vet. He should close his doors and move on into retirement, he clearly is incapable of running an office. Just look at the staff here - always turning over every few months. No one wants to be around him. I looked at the kennel and it was a cold, dingy, bug infested jail. Also, there was a male technician who smelled like marijuana which made me very uncomfortable - using drugs and working with sick animals should not be allowed and is frightening. The prices might seem decent but the guy is just dying for MONEY and uses that to get you in the door. I hope he sees this review as constructive criticism, as it is very sad that an establishment that has been around for so long is being ruined. As for the comment below, I can only say, read the former reviews. Clearly there has been major dissatisfaction from other clients who have visited this doctor and I am not the only one who feels this way. Get quality care from vets who are compassionate at other offices. Furthermore, this is being written from the position of a client who is dissatisfied, not a transient employee as alleged.

Visited Dr. Scharf today with my Mia! He was very gentle and really has a passion for what he does. The location is great and they are opened Saturday's. I live in Schenectady and had bad experiences with vets around our area. Found this animal hospital in Niskayuna through a mutual friend and so glad we came here. He told us our options and gave my Yorkie poo a thorough exam. Shannon was very nice at the front and welcomes me to the area. It was great to come in on a Saturday, they are accommodating and the fees are reasonable to other vet clinics. I highly recommend this veterinarian and his staff.

For the last 9 years Ron has cared for Shadow and seen him through several serious conditions. Dr. Scharf diagnosed and assisted in saving our dog's vision after he lost tear production. Ron was on top of an attack of pancreatitis and instant action saved Shadow's life. Quality care and a personal involvement in your pets life is provided by Ron Scharf at any time. Dr. Scharf and his team have taken care of my cats and dogs for years. From a warm welcome at the start of each visit to timely and conscientious follow-up, I have been very satisfied. Together, we were even able to extend the life of one dog who had a very serious health issue. I get great advice on how to keep my new dog healthy -- and helpful tips on training him. The actual kennel is terribly cold and ill maintained, surgeries are performed with few sanitary measures and I should have reported him to AAHA when I had problems with this office. I sincerely advise anyone considering this practice to find another vet. The prices are high and the care is not worth it. Because it is a small practice and the staff is small procedures such as blood withdrawal and other vet tech specific jobs are given to people that are not qualified to do them. Boarded animals are fed whatever is cheap and food specifically left for your pet will probably be thrown out or fed to other animals. Walks cost extra and the cage doors are rusting apart. I can tell you firsthand that two dogs were given high doses of a drug accidentally and blinded as a result and all the owners got was a "sorry" and a chance at a lawsuit. Do your research about other vets in the area and be very wary of Ronald Scharfs practice.

Dr. Scharf was my family's veterinarian for the last 15 years, and we have been loyal customers. My dog was injured and was being treated by a specialist and needed his bandages changed as well as a urinary catheter on a Saturday when the specialist was closed. Dr. Scharf's clinic is always open on Saturdays so I scheduled an appointment with him, expecting his charges to be less than that of a specialist. After performing the necessary treatment, I was billed $240, more than twice that of the specialist. A few hours later, when my dog tried to urinate, there was blood in his urine, a problem that had NEVER occurred until after he saw Dr. Scharf. When I called to discuss the charges and explain the situation, the office manager was not helpful and rather than offer to make things right, she had no problem allowing a loyal customer of 15 years leave the practice.

I did not have a pleasant experience at this office. I would say this vet is mainly in practice for the money. He did not have one positive comment to make regarding my pet. He continued to find things wrong that would cost lots of money. He offered no advice or any suggestions on anything I might do as a pet owner, but offered $300.00 to $400.00 worth of services. He must have asked me three times if my pet needed "flea and tick" treatment, although I indicated the pet did not. He even took a flea comb and went down the back of my pet to make sure I was telling the truthe, I guess? about my pet not having any fleas or ticks. Needless to say, I did not leave this vet's office with ANY good feelings about the 200.00 I spent for a rabies shot for my pet. I will NOT be returning here.
