Words cannot express how grateful I am for all of the staff and especially Dr. Gretchen Schlientz at TARA ANIMAL HOSPITAL.  Dr. Gretchen has been our dog's Veterinarian for a few years, and she and her staff have always been so patient and understanding to our Willy's less that perfect behavior when we bring him in for routine visits and vaccinations.  Willy gets very nervous, agitated, and a bit aggressive when he goes to the Vet.  They are always so patient and understanding to Willy's little outbursts whenever we go for his appointments. When we brought our 4-year old Maltese mix, Willy to Dr. Gretchen after we began to notice he was having vision problems, she correctly diagnosed him with serious eye complications related to a genetic predisposition.  She referred us to a specialist in Opthalmology at Cornell Animal Hospital and urged us that this was a complication that needed to be addressed right away. When we called the Opthalmology specialists, they were not able to schedule Willy for 7 weeks!!!   After we told Dr. Gretchen about the long wait, she spoke with the Ophthalmologist at Cornell and got us an appointment that same week!!!  She sent all of Willy's records down to Cornell so that the Ophthalmologist had a full history on Willy.  Fortunately, we got there in time to possibly save Willy's left eye. Sadly, his right eye may never regain vision, but with time being the essence, and with Dr. Gretchen advocating for us and urging the Ophthalmologist at Cornell to see Willy ASAP, Willy now has a chance to regain improved vision in his left eye.  There are just no words to express how grateful we are to Dr. Gretchen as well as all of her staff who supported us during this time.  Thank you, Dr. Gretchen Schlientz for giving Willy the best care and a chance for the best outcome.  And also, thank you to your staff you had to field ALL kinds of phone calls from us while we tried to process all of the emotions during this time.  Your support and patience is appreciated more than you know. This place Is the worst since Dr Ken left I was refused heartworm medicine for my dog even though her test was current and it hadent even been a year since her last visit. I have to find a new vet now after coming here for 20+ years. Very disappointed. Read Less

I would absolutely recommend these guys. They have always shown genuine concern for my 2 male cats. Recently one of my cats had an emergency. Gretchen saw him right away even though it was right at the end of the day. My cat had to stay overnight. I was concerned with the cost and they showed me an estimate which I already thought was reasonable. When I picked him up the next day, it was even less than the estimate. I could tell my cat had been taken good care of. Then since it was a Friday that I picked him up Amanda called Monday to see how he was. I had a few questions and she very patiently answered them all. The reasonable rates are helpful, but I appreciated even more how all of the staff has always shown that they truly care about animals. I have been going to Tara's for years. I have my Dachshund and three grand fur babies that go to Tara's they are the best, they care about the animals and are honest people who have a compassion for what they do. I got my first puppy in October and was needless to say a little lost!! Everyone is so great and even when my little guy got so sick they were so awesome with him... For a few weeks I called them almost everyday! They always answered all my questions and made me feel like I was their only patient! The techs are awesome and so are the vets. I am in the process of transferring all of my house pets to Tara. Each time we've been there, we were greeted, had a MINIMAL waiting time before being seen, we've seen Dr. Gretchen, she is thorough and caring. The office cares about the animals they see, they want to see all animals well, and have various ways to accommodate us, as caregivers. With one particular animal, we thought perhaps she was on her last few months/perhaps year. A few simple questions and answers, Dr. Gretchen recommended some tests- that another office had done previously, with normal results- so she asked a few more questions, gave a feeding recommendation and we have seen improvement in the cat. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - My friend had an animal emergency and took her dog to this hospital. She called me from this animal hospital crying that they won't take payments. They wanted her to pay $275 for an overnight stay without knowing what was actually wrong with the dog. I told her that I would cover it for you with my Care Credit card. They don't accept Care Credit and they didn't offer any discounts. The young VERY RUDE vet complained that she needed to leave because she was off the clock at 4 pm and wouldn't let my friend leave without paying $75 for the 2 minute exam. She only had $46 and I had to call in with my other credit card for the balance of $29. My friend and her daughter advised me that the vet said "Between the both of them, they should have been able to come up with the $275!" Hmm, how does she know my financial situation? I called my small animal vet and they immediately took the dog in, did x-rays and a thorough exam. The diagnosis was not at all what the TARA vet gave her. We paid my vet $91.50 including the rabies shot and pain medicine. The dog went home the same night and is recovering from bruises, not fractures. She is doing very well. Apparently, this vet got into the business for the love of MONEY not animals. Who would want to have a vet like this???Read Less
