I brought my Feline Prince of Darkness, Ozzy to have a front infected tree claw looked at by Dr. Farmiloe and he was amazing! I was told by another vet that Ozzy’s leg would need to be amputated or he would need to be euthanized… but Dr. Farmiloe without hesitation, assured me that he would be able to remove the mass on Ozzy’s leg and have him back to being himself. Well, I just got home with Ozzy today and he is doing incredible! Dr. Farmiloe is an awesome Veterinarian and his work ethic and bedside manner are impeccable. I highly recommend that if you have a furry friend that needs to be looked at, you bring them to the PW Animal Hospital and specifically ask for Dr. Farmiloe and let him save the day as he did with my beloved 16 year old RockStar, Ozzy! Thank you Dr. Farmiloe and your super support team for keeping my Ozzy, alive and still riding the Crazy Train! You Rock!! Read Less

Buyer beware? More like buyer stay far, far away. I received nothing more than abysmal care and customer service from Port Washington Animal Hospital. From the tests done incorrectly to tests ordered without authorization; from the undereducated staff who ordered said tests to the absolutely atrocious bedside manner (if you can even call it that) of Dr. Ezell; from the 1990s technological capabilities to the emotionally unstable staff, this is by far the worst animal hospital I have ever been to or heard of. We took our dog in for a suspected condition and had tests that have nothing to do with that condition done without our permission (so much so that they were eventually refunded). Once the legitimate tests came back “negative” (though we subsequently discovered that the test was done incorrectly), we had a licensed (I assume) veterinarian say that since “the test was negative” the condition “could really be anything,” including a tumor that, given its location on my dog’s body, would be extremely challenging to surgically remove, if not inoperable. After delivering this news, the “doctor” made a snarky dad joke as a sign off. As someone who works in healthcare I know firsthand that it is both excellence of practice and compassion of healthcare delivery that makes a great medical professional. The staff at Port Washington Animal Hospital have neither. If you care about your animals and your own sanity, I strongly encourage you to drive a bit further afield and visit West Hills Animal Hospital, where your family member will be cared for with the utmost professionalism and you will receive expert care from individuals who are passionate about their chosen profession, share your concern and personally invest in your pet’s outcomes, and work at the very top of their accreditation. If I could find out if anyone at Port Washington Animal Hospital is affiliated with AVMA, I would send them a formal complaint – unsurprisingly, this accreditation is either nonexistent or not visible so, for now, this will have to suffice. This isn't my dog's normal hospital, but I assumed that because the hospital is next to the animal shelter, that we would be guaranteed good service. Dr Ezell barely took the time to listen to me list my dog's symptoms and cut me off repeatedly. He also rolled his eyes when I asked about the price. After being handed a massive bill for some vague treatments for my dog and barely 5 minutes of his time, I somehow feel more unsettled about my dog's problem than I did when I walked in, and want to get a second opinion from another vet. The rest of the staff is great, but I'm never coming back here. Read Less

I should have read reviews before taking my cat to this vet. We took our senior cat in because he's been having walking problems and growing warts. Dr. Ezell made us feel crazy for bringing him in for these concerns and told us that it's just what happens when a cat is old and fat (over and over and over again mentioning just how fat our cat is). We thought we might be crazy until we spoke to another vet who offered a senior wellness exam and thyroid test among other things. Dr. Ezell just wanted us out of his office, what a waste of $75.00 just to be told our cat is old and fat with a vet who didn't spend more than 15 minutes with us. Read Less

Seldom do I post reviews, but truly felt this needed to be shared! What a terrible experience.  Will not be returning.  The vet we saw was rude to us, and our sweet, senior chihuahua we recently rescued.  She has glaucoma, and is almost completely blind. Upon meeting us he told us she was "freaky looking" and when discussing her medication routine (she requires three sets of eye drops a day) he suggested we must have nothing better to do with our time.  If you don't have compassion, and do not enjoy working with animals or their owners, perhaps it's time to retire! We don't have much to go off of, we were only there with our dog for a few minutes due to a fatal injury. Absolutely zero compassion from the vet who told my girlfriend without empathy that they couldn't do anything for her and he'd write her up a bill. $200 for 3 minutes. They do not care about your animals or their well-being. They just want your money. If not an emergency, take the extra few miles to go to Old Shore Animal Clinic. If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible experience. My family has taken our dogs here for a long time. Recently my cat became ill and I decided to bring her to the PW Animal hospital... the receptionist did not even greet me and my sick animal. She kept answering phones that were ringing. When she finally acknowledged I was there she asked me my last name, I told her my last name however this particular pet has never been here before. She proceeded to “huff” at me and roll her eyes and told me “ well your going to have to wait” there was not one other person in the waiting area and the vets were walking around seemingly unbusy. She proceeded to answer phones. I took my bag and walked straight out and will never step foot in there again, I highly recommend the Feline Animal Hosptial on PW boulevard they treated me with such kindness and went above and beyond to care for my sick pet. Terrible bedside manner. Cares very little for animals well-being. Zero compassion. I took my dog there for years and when I recently repeatedly told the Vet something was wrong with my dog, after one set of test, I was told nothing was wrong with him. My dog got progressively worse so I went to a new vet who actually listened to me and escalated the testing until finally, an ultrasound discovered multiple, large tumors in my dog's abdomen and I had to put him to sleep the next day. If Port Washington Animal hospital had cared when I first identified that my dog was not behaving normally, perhaps this could have been avoided. Avoid this place. Whenever my dog has had a flare up or has gotten sick, I was able to get an appointment right away. There is never a wait in the office and Dr. Farmiloe is the most thorough vet that we have been to. I have been to other veterinarians who were not able to pick up on ear mites and two hernias with my dog but Dr. Farmiloe was able to pick this up immediately! I.worked at this hospital and l was quickly dissappointed when a rescued raccoon was brought in and it was euthanized rather than brought to a wildlife center for rehab. But that wasnt the worst part. I was told other rescued animals are often euthanised rather than cared for. I was also instructed to tell clients that annual vaccinations were mandatory. Soon i started seeing dogs with massive tumors at vaccination sites and l learned that the very vaccines the vets gave these pets at $400 were causing symptoms like diahhrea, severe pain, hairloss and cancer. The American Animal Hospital Association of America has stated that vaccines can last 7 or more years and the Perdue canine vaccine study proved that unvaccinated dogs are healthier than dogs who get annual vaccines. Dont let greedy vets harm your pets with annual vaccines. Do your research on vaccinosis. And btw this place also performs horrific cat declawing for $400 ,which is like cutting the tips of your fingers off. I would go somewhere else where they are compassionate and have the animals best interests at heart.. Read Less

I'd like to thank the entire staff and Dr Ann for taking care of my pet the rabbit, Venus. The hospital cares deeply for every pet that visits the place. I'd definitely bring more pets here. I know the place is very close to North Shore Animal but it's always good to have a doctor and staff who you can always talk to about your pets and always follow-up after each visit. Dr Ann performed a surgery on Venus and she went through the process well and healed quickly. They called to follow-up the next day. I didn't get this service from The Humane Society of NY. I brought my two year old pekingese here for a visit with Dr. Farmaloe for a regular check-up and vaccines. Dr. Farmaloe was recommended by another pekingese owner, so we decided to give this place a try.I made the appointment via telephone a few days in advance, and was given the option to fax in my peke's medical records os that her file would be ready and that Dr. Farmaloe would know what she needs for her appointment. The staff kept their word--everything was ready when we arrived for our appointment.  We arrived on time and did not have to wait. That's a huge plus because we used to go to North Shore Animal League's clinic and even with an appointment, we'd have to wait about 20 minutes on average for each visit. Another plus was the vet assistant who was present throughout the entire appointment. At North Shore Animal League's clinic, it would be just the vet--and I'd have to be the one holding down and comforting my dog when he/she gave shots or did exams.Dr. Farmaloe was very thorough in his examination and we did not feel rushed. He seems to be very knowledgeable and patient.  He even trimmed my peke's nails at the end of the appointment!Overall, I am very satisfied with the quality of service, promptness, and the cleanliness of this facility and its employees. Though the vets at North Shore Animal League's clinic were also very knowledgeable and personable, I prefer this facility for it's timely and non-rushed appointments. One negative is that the prices of Port Washington Animal Hospital are higher than the prices of the North Shore Animal League clinic, but I do understand that you get what you pay for.  Our visit came out to $230.00 for the exam ($64), heartworm test ($44), fecal test ($44), and routine shots (Bortadella and DHPP for $77).  My peke and I had a pleasant experience and will be coming back for future medical visits. If selecting no stars was an option, I'd take it but this site forces you to select at least one. Read Less

Dr. Farmiloe and all of the girls in the office, are so incredibly friendly and helpful! For one, my dog has many allergies and has a weak immune system. Another thing that we love about Dr. Farmiloe is that he is very thorough and explains the ailments and treatments in great detail so that you know what exactly is going on with your dog.We love Dr. Farmiloe and we highly recommend him! Read Less

I just had a great experience with Dr. Farmaloe. Called this morning with my dog having an allergic reaction, I am new to the area and my dog is not a regular patient (will be now though!) and they got me in ASAP. He was so nice and calm, didn't feel like he was pushing procedures and tests on me like I always did in the city. He commented on how nice my dog was, got down on the floor with him. Overall I felt like my pup was not only in capable hands but also ones that really cared. Read Less

Dr. Farmiloe has been caring for my chinchilla, Lucky, for 10+ years now. He's great when it comes to simple checkups and has prescribed the proper medication that always took care of Lucky's issues. However, when my chinchilla had a more complex tooth problem that he couldn't cure, Dr. Farmiloe did the right thing and referred us to an exotic animal veterinarian. He truly cares about the animal, not the bottom line, which is exactly what any pet owner wants in a veterinarian.

When one of my rabbits dies, the hospital took care of the arrangement placing my rabbit there for pick-up from pet cemetery. From now on, all of my pets will be brought to this place. Read Less
