Clean, friendly, decent prices for most things... Became very disappointed that after starting to go here for a short period of time(January-April'18) the veterinarian abruptly quit less than a week after my pups had an appointment with him. When I further inquired about the reasoning I wasn't given an answer and told they don't know if he is currently practicing elsewhere. Now, a few weeks later my one dog needs a tooth extraction so I met the other vet. While she was nice, I still liked the other vet better, not because the 'new' one did anything wrong, I just had a better feeling I guess with the other vet. Probably because he didn't feel it was necessary to make me stay away from my dog during the exam (she is aggressive due to her being an abused rescue and she was in pain at the time of the appointment). I felt my dog was more comfortable with the other vet, which is unusual as she doesn't like men. Once I received the quote for surgery I shopped around to ensure it was a good price since I luckily never had to experience this before. And it appears to be on average $100 more than others (As other vets are including a cleaning with the surgery). I'm willing to pay a little more for good service from good people but this experience is leading me to re-think any future visits. While the office is cleaner than RCAC, I think I'll just go back to getting vaccines at the clinic to save money as I can't count on the same vet being there at the full service vet anyways so no relationship can be established. might as well go to a clinic unless they need surgery again... Sad to say I feel I wasted the last few months establishing a relationship with the one vet that has now left the practice and therefore wasted my money (yes I still received the necessary vaccines, but I could have spent 1/3 less elsewhere). Also, at my last visit with the 'new' vet I asked for recommendations on flea and tick meds (as I was considering something different from last year). She quickly references 3 items and said the tech could go over other details with me..... I paid for a vet visit. If I proceed with the tooth extraction surgery at this hospital, I will update my review as I am hopeful it will be a better experience. Read Less

I've had the best experience dealing with the staff and the doctors at this office. We unfortunately had to put our yellow lab, Marley, down after complications and a growth on his heart. We had taken him to Animal Hospital of Rochester since he was an 8wk old puppy. The staff was very fond of him, caring, and compassionate... needless to say we're very fond of the staff and doctors as well. Coming to the realization that you need to put your best friend to rest is not easy. The staff and doctors were attentive, and provided guidance and support throughout a very tumultuous time. They even went so far as to send us a card with notes and memories from each one of the staff and doctors that dealt with Marley... we still have that very heartfelt card. We LOVE Dr. Buck!  After some negative experiences at a different animal hospital we decided to check out AHOR because of Dr. Buck's reputation and her support of local rescue groups.  We could not be happier.  We transferred three pets to the practice all at once including two dogs who were already over 15 years old.  Needless to say we have been to visit AHOR a LOT since coming to the practice a short time ago.  I have had a lot of pets, like crazy dog lady amount of pets, and have worked with several vets.  Dr. Buck talks us through all the treatment options and doesn't jump to the the most costly ones like blood work and x-rays when possible.  One dog is on a monthly payment plan that covers his visits, vaccines and most of a recent dental procedure- which Dr. Buck was willing to do even though my dog was already 16 years old.  He is much happier and healthier with a handful of shiny white teeth.  Our previous vet wouldn't even consider this procedure based on his age alone.    Most importantly, **warning, sad stuff ahead** Dr. Buck helped my other dog die with dignity.  The process of euthanasia was quick and compassionate and we were able to take the time we needed to grieve with her.  Sadly, this is a service we will all need and it was the kindest and quickest experience I've been through.  This is a great practice with a great staff and we quickly felt like old friends.  I absolutely recommend Dr. Buck. i has the worst experience and will not be bringing my dog back! i paid for my doctor visit he said since my dog threw up he could not administer the vaccine. he said to make another appointment and come back in 2 days. i did exactly what he said and came back in 2 days. as i am in the waiting room i see the doctor just leave the building and not even acknowledge myself or his patient (my dog) ! after that a lady that i didn’t know came out and said the doctor was finished and left and asked me to come back in 2 hours. that was very unacceptable to me so i refused because my dog is still a puppy and gets car sick i would not subject him to suffer because of your practices inability to maintain a schedule. so she just whisked my puppy away WITHOUT his records and administered the vaccine. she also took it upon herself to add a rabies booster when my plan that was discussed with the doctor was that we would give my dog his rabies shot with his NEXT shot! to make things worse they said i couldn’t be with my dog because “it wasn’t a doctor visit” even though that’s what i paid for! very unprofessional. doctors have NO bedside manner and they just look at you and your pet as a money sign there is no care and love. We've been going to Dr Buck since 2013, and have highly recommend her to many pet lovers. She and her staff provide spot-on, compassionate care. EVERYONE at the practice is friendly, compassionate, and professional. Most pets, especially cats, get anxious in a veterinarian's waiting room. At AHoR, there is little, if any waiting time. Julie Standish, who gives this vet a five star rating, is the office manager for the vet in question which makes the rating a lie and Julie Standish a person one might not care to trust. I doubt the owner of the practice would approve of this since it reflects badly on the practice as a whole. When a general manager is doing this and other things that will be left unstated here, it impacts the culture and behaviors of other support staff. IMO, It is not a warm, friendly and inviting environment. We believe this is due largely to Julie Standish, and several people we know have said the same about this person. Do not bring your pet here unless you want neglectful and rude treatment! I brought my newly adopted cat to AHOR this past Saturday for his first checkup and was told by Dr. Huggler that he was completely healthy, in spite of my concerns that he was having soft stools. She performed a very quick exam and didn't thoroughly check his rectal area, oral cavity, or abdomen. However, 1-2 hours later I noticed worm segments in his rectal area and was shocked! By then, the office was closed until Monday and so I sought treatment at a different clinic where they performed a much more complete exam and were able to treat him for his tapeworm infection, as well as point out other concerns such as his inflamed gums/gingivitis. (Thank you Banfield in Webster!) I later contacted AHOR, and the practice manager Julie was extremely offensive. She told me that since I used a voucher from the adoption shelter for the exam, I was only entitled to receiving a "basic exam," and that I would not be refunded for any additional services I had paid for (which included a nail trimming that wasn't even finished because they were unable to trim his back paws). I explained that Dr. Huggler didn't even mention the possibility that the soft stools could be related to an infection which is why I was shocked to find worms once I got home. This failure to recognize symptoms and provide possible diagnoses to a patient was what truly upset me.Julie then went on to insult me, telling me that I didn't go to "medical school" and that my cat's infection was a "non-emergency" that could've waited until Monday (as if I was going to trust them with treating my cat!). These belittling and rude remarks were uncalled for and she never once apologized or expressed any concern about the health of my pet. Overall the entire experience was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional. The only staff member that I can speak positively of is Shelby at the front desk, who apologized for what happened.Never again. Be warned and take your loved animal somewhere else! Read Less

I am so thankful that I made the decision to take my "Cali Girl" to the Animal Hospital of Rochester today. From the beginning of my interaction today all the way through to the end of my appointment, I have never been more impressed with how professional, considerate and loving all of the staff was. I must have called Julie (Office Manager) 5 times today, to sort out details, scenarios, and plans, it's a miracle she didn't hate me before even seeing my face at the appointment!!! But she didn't, she greeted me with a warm smile and hello and made registration and checkout a breeze. Then I met Scott (Vet Tech) who jumped in feet first to help me lift my 126 lbs HUGE Rottweiler from the back of my car. No complaints or wariness from Scott about lifting my "scary breed" right by her face and shoulders to gently lift her from the car. Then we met Dr. Buck who was so loving of both my Cali Girl and myself during a very difficult appointment. She made me feel so comfortable and gave Cali the most wonderful attention and medical care. She listened to my opinion and respected Cali for how she was acting, not for the big scary large breed that she is! I am so so so thankful that I am now involved in this most lovely Animal Hospital. I absolutely love it here. They took care of my cat Mittens after she was rescued from a house fire. They took her in for 8-10 weeks and nursed hee back to good health after the severe burns she suffered from and having to have a leg amputated. When I went in to meet Mittens and the doctor that was taking care of her, I decided right then and there that no matter what I will be switching to this vet. They are all so friendly and answer any questions or concerns I have. They also took care of my other cat Kanga after she had a leg amputated from being chased up a fence and her leg broke. Both Mittens and Kanga were rescued through Keller's Kats and the Animal Hospital of Rochester took great care of them until they were cleared to come home with me. Highly recommend the animal hospital of Rochester and will continue to use them for any other pet's I adopt in the future :)Read Less

A friend recommended I go to AHOR since I was searching for a new vet. Dr. Buck is amazing! My dog has so many health problems and she figured them out. My old vet wools prescribe medication and the problem would go away but come back shortly. Dr. Buck is so invested and cares so much for animals. BEWARE! This vet is not great... When told Wegmans was going to start selling meds, this doctor began charging for a prescription. Despite the fact that we paid $80 plus for the heartworm exam and consult, when we told her we wanted to buy our meds someplace else because it was cheaper, she instituted an $8 fee just for the script. She held us hostage in that we could not get our pet medicated even though we paid for the exam, unless we either got the meds from her at a hugely marked up price or paid her fee... a fee for nothing whatsoever... Just to compensate for the loss of her profit on the meds? Raise your prices then... but don't charge for no service rendered. That's stealing. A bad vet... only interested in your business, not your pet. And she couldn't even get into an American vet school, had to get her degree in the Caribbean. BEWARE!!! Read Less

I met Dr. Brenda Buck 6 years ago when I took my new baby Dachshund to day care.She worked at a Corporate Animal Hospital on the premises of the day care. We just loved her and made sure that we always got her and not another vet. Dr. Buck opened up her own practice about a year or so ago, The Animal Hospital of Rochester. I now have 3 dogs and I would never bring them anywhere to Dr. Buck. She is compassionate, charismatic and treats every pet she cares for like her own. She just started offering boarding. We left our dogs there over Thanksgiving for 10 days while we were traveling. I had such confidence in this fabulous team that I didn't worry about my babies at all!
