I have been taking my puppy bailey -who is currently 7 months old -to companion since she was 2 months. Everyone there is great-except Brandi Frazier ;a vet technician. She lacks empathy and compassion for animals and animal owners. My puppy was spayed on Friday November 30th at a clinic 90 minutes away from my home. (I took her there because the rescue I bought her from paid for her surgery-at that clinic.) My puppy started peeing blood today, Dec 1st. So I wasn't sure if it was from the surgery or a UTI.My puppy has had 2 previous UTI's(she had one the day the agency dropped her off at my home and the medication she had wasn't strong enough so it came back) so I suspected that's what it was. I called the doctor who performed the surgery and explained what was going on and she said to get a urine sample and take it to her regular vet (companion animal hospital) and have them test it. I had a friend (because I was temporarily without a car) drive me to companion hospital to drop off her urine sample. When I arrived I explain to the front desk women that my dog was just spayed the day before , she was peeing blood and I had a fresh urine sample and I wanted them to just test it to see if it was a UTI. The front desk women called Brandi Frazier over and I explained why I was there, again.She went to check with the vet and came back to tell me that they couldn't accept the urine sample because the currier had already left for the day and wouldn't be back till Monday and the urine sample wouldn't be good by then. She suggested that I drive my dog to an urgent care so that she could be examined and have them take a urine sample and test it there. I explained to her that I didn't have a car at the moment- and that I didn't want to drag my dog out of the house just to have urgent care get a urine sample, that I already had right there. She continued to repeat herself and go on to say they didn't perform the surgery so they needed to examine her(although they didn't have any availability that day so they couldn't see her) and to just give her more pain medication and take her to urgent care. I asked why they couldn't just run the urine sample in house like they had done before (when she had the UTI) but she just kept repeating herself and saying they needed to examine her. I ask brandi to please take the sample , I would pay whatever I had to, test it in-house and if it were negative for a UTI then I would drag my dog out of the house to urgent care . If it were positive then all they had to do was write me a prescription for antibiotics. I begged her to test it in house-which they very well could have-but she refused. Brandi could have done it-but she continued to give me the run around. She knew I didn't have a car so I couldn't drive my dog anywhere and she didn't care. Brandi- How can you say no to a simple test knowing my puppy just had surgery and is sitting at home in pain in her belly and potentially her vagina as well?? How can you work with animals when you lack empathy or any compassion knowing an animal is in pain?? I will never return to companion hospital because of Brandi. I do not want her anywhere near my puppy.

I would never recommend this place to anyone I know. Because of a bad situation both my dogs were at this facility for a month. In that time they exploited the situation I was in by giving my dogs useless items they knew I had to pay for. Also for neglecting and not feeding one of my dogs only because of the fact he looked scary. When I finally got them home both of my dogs had infections and kennel cough, and one of my dogs was horribly underweight.

On Friday June 30th, 2018 my dog Bleu was hit by a car. Unfortunately when I called our Veterinarian Saturday morning they said they were s booked solid and unable to see us.
As the day went on Bleu was not acting herself for a 3 year old dog. I took her to the Emergency Vet, who was able to check her out. She explained x-rays would be between $600-$700. I explained I just didn’t have that. As it was already $150 to just walk in. The Doctor was so sweet, we were able to get some pain meds for Bleu and a check list of things to look out for.
Monday came and once again our Vet was not able to see Bleu, thru a different veterinarian office they provided a referral to Companion Animal Hospital. They asked me to drop Bleu off about 7:30am (The day before a holiday) and thru the day they would be able to check her out. (When I made the appointment I also explained I was on a fixed income and really concerned about the cost.) When I dropped Bleu off to Companion Animal Hospital they had a estimate available with a Low end and High end that may have been wrong but nothing was for sure until Dr Yestrebi had a look at her also the price may change with additional tests or treatment. I also had applied for Financial Assistance thru Rochester Hope for a pets.
Dr Yestrebi called with his initial assessment, he also had such a calming voice, answered All of my questions, he even if I had more questions. I could tell that he really cares for his patients. He also called a few hours later after he did X-rays, wrapped Bleu’s paw out, gave pain meds, antibiotics. I was so pleased to have received a grant for a portion of the fee from!
Thru the toughest experience and all the bumps in the road I feel so lucky to have found the best Veterinarian, Dr Yestrebi!

Dr. Andy and Dr. Trent (and their staff) have to be the most compassionate Vets/staff I have ever met. From the point my 15 year old cat Kit was diagnosed with Kidney Disease until her death, they provided me with such support and kindness. They both , at different times, along with their staff, listened to my concerns, validated Kits status and supported me throughout the whole process. In addition, they assisted me in having her cremated through Forever Friends, which did a wonderful job with the preservation of her ashes. Between Dr. Andy, Dr. Trent and Forever Friends, I could not have received more caring and support during this very difficult time. If you are looking for a wonderful animal hospital, I would highly recommend this practice.

I unfortunately had to put my dog down. As you may already know, or can imagine, making that decision was heartbreaking. The Doc that took care of us made all the difference in the world that day. He made sure we were making an informed choice and made sure we were aware of all our options. When it was time, before he administered the medicine, he asked if it was ok if he said a prayer for my sweet old girl. His words were soothing and comforting and made me feel at peace. You could tell he really cared and shared in our pain. If I ever have it in me to have another dog, there’s no question where I would bring him/her. You guys made a very hard experience a lot easier. Thank all of you, especially you Doc.

This place is amazing! I switched here after having a bad experience at another vet caring for my cat with a large liver tumor. First they're significantly less expensive than other vets, and even once waived a visit fee. Both Dr. Andy & Dr. Trent were willing to try anything and everything I wanted to try unlike the former practice I came from, which only told me I should put her down even after I told them she still greets me, eats and drinks, etc. Some of the amazing care included them sending the medication for my cat to a special pharmacy that concocted it in chicken flavoring and shockingly she actually ate it! (I've never been able to give her meds - she always smells it/tastes it). With no medical options left besides keeping her comfy, They also recommended homeopathic products that could help her boost her immune system which have outstanding reviews. All three products I bought immediately and in just one days dose I noticed a difference. They are flavored too so my cat didn't mind eating it with her food and she was up a little more than normal in her lethargic state. Wish I found this practice sooner but am comforted knowing whenever I have my next furry family member they will have a reliable and trustworthy veterinarian to care for them! thank you companion animal hospital and dr. Trent & dr. Andy :)

My cat has had a great experience - annual exams and a successful oral surgery - at Companion Animal Hospital over the past two years. Dr. Smith is wonderful and very attentive, and the staff is nice across the board. While I usually use a cat sitter, I boarded my cat twice when I was new to Rochester and hadn't found a great sitter yet, and she was happy afterwards and each time came back with a report card, photos of play time, etc. After my cat's oral surgery the followup calls to check in on her recovery were appreciated.

I just spent $300 here on my animals for medicine because I had another rescue and 1 needed medicine for a small tiny wound on her knee from dry skin and biting it. You would think they would give me a cone for free but they were still trying to charge me and nickel-and-dime me for a f****** code for something that I already paid for. I will also be going elsewhere to get my dog fixed because I'm not spending $750 on a tiny little puppy. Just to get her fixed. That is outrageous. I've had animals my entire life and that is called robbing people.

Brought my puppy Bella for boarding on a recommendation from my Vet. The staff took very good care of her and before I left her they gave me a tour and showed me the facility and where she would be sleeping. That was 2 yrs ago. Bella loves coming to stay when i need to go to NYC for medical treatment and its reassuring that I don't have to worry about Bella while she's at Companion. Thank you!!!

This wonderful place defines compassionate care -- compassion for the animals and for their humans. They treat the family and do it with extensive knowledge and experience.
The kennel and staff are terrific places for our dogs and they receive a lot of love and attention above and beyond what is paid for.
We are coming off a devastating loss of our puppy, and Dr. Smith and the staff members were right there with us -- helping when there was something to do and crying and holding hands with us when there was not anything else to be done. I am so grateful that they care so deeply.

I do love this place. Both doctors have been really sweet when I've talked to them, but my dog usually sees Dr. Velez because it always seems to work out that way and I adore her. Always calls me back promptly even for the most silly questions I have. My dog is the kind who gets super excited to be anywhere with new people, so she can be a handful and every one at Companion handles her so well, even when her idea of love is running into you at top speed and licking you everywhere.
But Companion in particular has a great boarding set up, at least for somewhere so urban. An actual grass back yard and runs that have access to fresh air are kinda rare in Rochester.
I could go on...but I'm sure you get the idea. I like them.

This is a great vet. Highly recommend. Both vets are incredibly nice and truly care about the animals they see. They will go out of their way to check in with you if there was a problem with your animal to make sure they're getting better. My wife and I are very happy with them and would recommend them to anyone who needs a vet.

Dr. Velez and Dr. Smith are both so knowledgeable and professional, yet so kind and down-to-earth. They, along with every staff member, truly care about the animals they see and it is obvious when you bring your pet there. My new puppy has a medical condition that a friend of mines puppy also had a few years ago. I was really worried that my dog would end up like my friends dog, with chronic issues all of her life, but Dr. Velez assured me there were options for a solution. I am so grateful for the high level of professional care she has given my pets!

What an amazing place! As you may know first hand, our animals = our children. I would never take my child anywhere that i had the smallest inkling that they were not reviving the best care they possible could. When I i go to Companion i have not only piece of mind but i am among friends. My vet is Dr. Velez and like the rest of the staff is amazing! Dr. Velez has an amazing way about her and her compassion for what she does. Even when delivering not the best of news, she has an incredible way about herself and doing it in such a way that is just amazingly kind and compassionate.
To those who have the time to write horrible reviews, including ranting about the cost to trim nails....thank you for the openings now available when i need an appointment!
Best place hands down to receive the best care for you and your pet!

I will never go to an MVA clinic again. I've been systematically ripped off. The latest example was getting charged over $20 to trim my dog's nails. They charged this for something that took less than 5 minutes and then tried to make excuses about why their nail trims are "special". In doing more research I learned that 1) MVA clinics are owned by the same guy who rips people off in every possible way. 2) MVA clinics charge more than any other clinics. 3) I was charged nearly twice as much for preventative medicine and for having my dog fixed as I would have been at other clinics in town. How do I trust people to do the right thing when they rip me off? It is sad - I've really liked Dr. Tomeka Smith - but ultimately, she knows about the prices and these issues too and is choosing to run her practice out of a place that rips people off. Since I've menioned this to my trainer and other friends I've heard story after story about MVA's terrible business practices. Someone from Companion finally called me several days after I was promised a phone call. Christine (?) was not at all empathetic, wasn't listening to my concerns, made excuses, and offered nothing to try to make the situation right (like a refund for the rip off). Off to Canfield or Farmington we go. I would rather drive a ways than do business with any MVA clinic ever again. Again, sad that this is how they do business - we will certainly miss Dr. Smith but how can I possibly trust anyone with Companion or MVA again? Can't.

Both Dr. Tomeka and Dr. Vanessa are outstanding as vets and as people. Both doctors are knowledgeable, do a great job, and genuinely care about their patients. I have done everything from bringing in a new puppy, to caring for a senior, to saying goodbye. Both doctors were with me, called me, checked in, and were outstanding through it all. I would never take my boys anywhere else. I know they are happy and healthy pets because of Companion.

I've been taking my pets to Companion for about 6 years now. While I've seen a few different vets, the support staff seems to not change. Right now it's Dr. Velez and Dr. Smith, both whom are very nice and attentive. It just happens to be that I've seen Dr. Smith for my more problem pets, and she is fantastic at following up just to make sure all is well.The rest of the staff members are just absolutely great. Everyone is very kind and compassionate. The boarding services are pretty nice too, specifically for dogs as the kennels are indoor/outdoor. In nice weather they will raise a divider that lets the dog lay in the sunshine if he wants to.If they can't help you, or can't fit you in for an emergency surgery, they will find another vet that can do it. This is so crucial as you are already fretting about your pet and won't want to have to do this yourself. I've been really happy with the service I've received here and find the prices to be fair, about the same as everyone else in the area.

I gravitate towards problem dogs. Finding a veternarian that works well with them has been difficult. I have moved around a lot and was dreading looking for a new vet when I moved to Rochester. Finding Companion Animal Hospital was such a relief. Even my man-hating crazy German Shepherd likes Dr. Fagan. Plus, he works evenings and weekends AND does dog boarding. Companion Animal Hospital isn't cheap but the prices are fairly in line with what everyone else is charging in Rochester. And the vet care is fantastic.

When I arrived I explain to the front desk women that my dog was just spayed the day before , she was peeing blood and I had a fresh urine sample and I wanted them to just test it to see if it was a UTI. The front desk women called Brandi Frazier over and I explained why I was there, again.She went to check with the vet and came back to tell me that they couldn't accept the urine sample because the currier had already left for the day and wouldn't be back till Monday and the urine sample wouldn't be good by then. She suggested that I drive my dog to an urgent care so that she could be examined and have them take a urine sample and test it there. I explained to her that I didn't have a car at the moment- and that I didn't want to drag my dog out of the house just to have urgent care get a urine sample, that I already had right there. She continued to repeat herself and go on to say they didn't perform the surgery so they needed to examine her(although they didn't have any availability that day so they couldn't see her) and to just give her more pain medication and take her to urgent care. I asked why they couldn't just run the urine sample in house like they had done before (when she had the UTI) but she just kept repeating herself and saying they needed to examine her. I ask brandi to please take the sample , I would pay whatever I had to, test it in-house and if it were negative for a UTI then I would drag my dog out of the house to urgent care . If it were positive then all they had to do was write me a prescription for antibiotics. I begged her to test it in house-which they very well could have-but she refused. Brandi could have done it-but she continued to give me the run around. She knew I didn't have a car so I couldn't drive my dog anywhere and she didn't care. Brandi- How can you say no to a simple test knowing my puppy just had surgery and is sitting at home in pain in her belly and potentially her vagina as well?? How can you work with animals when you lack empathy or any compassion knowing an animal is in pain?? I will never return to companion hospital because of Brandi. I do not want her anywhere near my puppy.

I would never recommend this place to anyone I know. Because of a bad situation both my dogs were at this facility for a month. In that time they exploited the situation I was in by giving my dogs useless items they knew I had to pay for. Also for neglecting and not feeding one of my dogs only because of the fact he looked scary. When I finally got them home both of my dogs had infections and kennel cough, and one of my dogs was horribly underweight.

On Friday June 30th, 2018 my dog Bleu was hit by a car. Unfortunately when I called our Veterinarian Saturday morning they said they were s booked solid and unable to see us.
As the day went on Bleu was not acting herself for a 3 year old dog. I took her to the Emergency Vet, who was able to check her out. She explained x-rays would be between $600-$700. I explained I just didn’t have that. As it was already $150 to just walk in. The Doctor was so sweet, we were able to get some pain meds for Bleu and a check list of things to look out for.
Monday came and once again our Vet was not able to see Bleu, thru a different veterinarian office they provided a referral to Companion Animal Hospital. They asked me to drop Bleu off about 7:30am (The day before a holiday) and thru the day they would be able to check her out. (When I made the appointment I also explained I was on a fixed income and really concerned about the cost.) When I dropped Bleu off to Companion Animal Hospital they had a estimate available with a Low end and High end that may have been wrong but nothing was for sure until Dr Yestrebi had a look at her also the price may change with additional tests or treatment. I also had applied for Financial Assistance thru Rochester Hope for a pets.
Dr Yestrebi called with his initial assessment, he also had such a calming voice, answered All of my questions, he even if I had more questions. I could tell that he really cares for his patients. He also called a few hours later after he did X-rays, wrapped Bleu’s paw out, gave pain meds, antibiotics. I was so pleased to have received a grant for a portion of the fee from!
Thru the toughest experience and all the bumps in the road I feel so lucky to have found the best Veterinarian, Dr Yestrebi!

Dr. Andy and Dr. Trent (and their staff) have to be the most compassionate Vets/staff I have ever met. From the point my 15 year old cat Kit was diagnosed with Kidney Disease until her death, they provided me with such support and kindness. They both , at different times, along with their staff, listened to my concerns, validated Kits status and supported me throughout the whole process. In addition, they assisted me in having her cremated through Forever Friends, which did a wonderful job with the preservation of her ashes. Between Dr. Andy, Dr. Trent and Forever Friends, I could not have received more caring and support during this very difficult time. If you are looking for a wonderful animal hospital, I would highly recommend this practice.

I unfortunately had to put my dog down. As you may already know, or can imagine, making that decision was heartbreaking. The Doc that took care of us made all the difference in the world that day. He made sure we were making an informed choice and made sure we were aware of all our options. When it was time, before he administered the medicine, he asked if it was ok if he said a prayer for my sweet old girl. His words were soothing and comforting and made me feel at peace. You could tell he really cared and shared in our pain. If I ever have it in me to have another dog, there’s no question where I would bring him/her. You guys made a very hard experience a lot easier. Thank all of you, especially you Doc.

This place is amazing! I switched here after having a bad experience at another vet caring for my cat with a large liver tumor. First they're significantly less expensive than other vets, and even once waived a visit fee. Both Dr. Andy & Dr. Trent were willing to try anything and everything I wanted to try unlike the former practice I came from, which only told me I should put her down even after I told them she still greets me, eats and drinks, etc. Some of the amazing care included them sending the medication for my cat to a special pharmacy that concocted it in chicken flavoring and shockingly she actually ate it! (I've never been able to give her meds - she always smells it/tastes it). With no medical options left besides keeping her comfy, They also recommended homeopathic products that could help her boost her immune system which have outstanding reviews. All three products I bought immediately and in just one days dose I noticed a difference. They are flavored too so my cat didn't mind eating it with her food and she was up a little more than normal in her lethargic state. Wish I found this practice sooner but am comforted knowing whenever I have my next furry family member they will have a reliable and trustworthy veterinarian to care for them! thank you companion animal hospital and dr. My cat has had a great experience - annual exams and a successful oral surgery - at Companion Animal Hospital over the past two years. Dr. Smith is wonderful and very attentive, and the staff is nice across the board. While I usually use a cat sitter, I boarded my cat twice when I was new to Rochester and hadn't found a great sitter yet, and she was happy afterwards and each time came back with a report card, photos of play time, etc. After my cat's oral surgery the followup calls to check in on her recovery were appreciated.

I just spent $300 here on my animals for medicine because I had another rescue and 1 needed medicine for a small tiny wound on her knee from dry skin and biting it. You would think they would give me a cone for free but they were still trying to charge me and nickel-and-dime me for a f****** code for something that I already paid for. I will also be going elsewhere to get my dog fixed because I'm not spending $750 on a tiny little puppy. Just to get her fixed. That is outrageous. I've had animals my entire life and that is called robbing people.

Brought my puppy Bella for boarding on a recommendation from my Vet. The staff took very good care of her and before I left her they gave me a tour and showed me the facility and where she would be sleeping. That was 2 yrs ago. Bella loves coming to stay when i need to go to NYC for medical treatment and its reassuring that I don't have to worry about Bella while she's at Companion. Thank you!!!

The kennel and staff are terrific places for our dogs and they receive a lot of love and attention above and beyond what is paid for.
We are coming off a devastating loss of our puppy, and Dr. Smith and the staff members were right there with us -- helping when there was something to do and crying and holding hands with us when there was not anything else to be done. I am so grateful that they care so deeply.

I do love this place. Both doctors have been really sweet when I've talked to them, but my dog usually sees Dr. Velez because it always seems to work out that way and I adore her. Always calls me back promptly even for the most silly questions I have. My dog is the kind who gets super excited to be anywhere with new people, so she can be a handful and every one at Companion handles her so well, even when her idea of love is running into you at top speed and licking you everywhere.
But Companion in particular has a great boarding set up, at least for somewhere so urban. An actual grass back yard and runs that have access to fresh air are kinda rare in Rochester.
I could go on...but I'm sure you get the idea. I like them.

This is a great vet. Highly recommend. Both vets are incredibly nice and truly care about the animals they see. They will go out of their way to check in with you if there was a problem with your animal to make sure they're getting better. Dr. Velez and Dr. Smith are both so knowledgeable and professional, yet so kind and down-to-earth. They, along with every staff member, truly care about the animals they see and it is obvious when you bring your pet there. My new puppy has a medical condition that a friend of mines puppy also had a few years ago. I was really worried that my dog would end up like my friends dog, with chronic issues all of her life, but Dr. Velez assured me there were options for a solution. I am so grateful for the high level of professional care she has given my pets!

What an amazing place! As you may know first hand, our animals = our children. I would never take my child anywhere that i had the smallest inkling that they were not reviving the best care they possible could. When I i go to Companion i have not only piece of mind but i am among friends. My vet is Dr. Velez and like the rest of the staff is amazing! Dr. Velez has an amazing way about her and her compassion for what she does. Even when delivering not the best of news, she has an incredible way about herself and doing it in such a way that is just amazingly kind and compassionate.
To those who have the time to write horrible reviews, including ranting about the cost to trim nails....thank you for the openings now available when i need an appointment!
Best place hands down to receive the best care for you and your pet!

I will never go to an MVA clinic again. I've been systematically ripped off. The latest example was getting charged over $20 to trim my dog's nails. They charged this for something that took less than 5 minutes and then tried to make excuses about why their nail trims are "special". In doing more research I learned that 1) MVA clinics are owned by the same guy who rips people off in every possible way. 2) MVA clinics charge more than any other clinics. 3) I was charged nearly twice as much for preventative medicine and for having my dog fixed as I would have been at other clinics in town. How do I trust people to do the right thing when they rip me off? It is sad - I've really liked Dr. Tomeka Smith - but ultimately, she knows about the prices and these issues too and is choosing to run her practice out of a place that rips people off. Since I've menioned this to my trainer and other friends I've heard story after story about MVA's terrible business practices. Someone from Companion finally called me several days after I was promised a phone call. Christine (?) was not at all empathetic, wasn't listening to my concerns, made excuses, and offered nothing to try to make the situation right (like a refund for the rip off). Off to Canfield or Farmington we go. I would rather drive a ways than do business with any MVA clinic ever again. Again, sad that this is how they do business - we will certainly miss Dr. Smith but how can I possibly trust anyone with Companion or MVA again? Can't.

Both Dr. Tomeka and Dr. Vanessa are outstanding as vets and as people. Both doctors are knowledgeable, do a great job, and genuinely care about their patients. I have done everything from bringing in a new puppy, to caring for a senior, to saying goodbye. Both doctors were with me, called me, checked in, and were outstanding through it all. I would never take my boys anywhere else. I know they are happy and healthy pets because of Companion.

I've been taking my pets to Companion for about 6 years now. While I've seen a few different vets, the support staff seems to not change. Right now it's Dr. Velez and Dr. Smith, both whom are very nice and attentive. It just happens to be that I've seen Dr. Smith for my more problem pets, and she is fantastic at following up just to make sure all is well.The rest of the staff members are just absolutely great. Everyone is very kind and compassionate. The boarding services are pretty nice too, specifically for dogs as the kennels are indoor/outdoor. In nice weather they will raise a divider that lets the dog lay in the sunshine if he wants to.If they can't help you, or can't fit you in for an emergency surgery, they will find another vet that can do it. This is so crucial as you are already fretting about your pet and won't want to have to do this yourself. I've been really happy with the service I've received here and find the prices to be fair, about the same as everyone else in the area.

I gravitate towards problem dogs. Finding a veternarian that works well with them has been difficult. I have moved around a lot and was dreading looking for a new vet when I moved to Rochester. Finding Companion Animal Hospital was such a relief. Even my man-hating crazy German Shepherd likes Dr. Fagan. Plus, he works evenings and weekends AND does dog boarding. Companion Animal Hospital isn't cheap but the prices are fairly in line with what everyone else is charging in Rochester. And the vet care is fantastic.
