I'll start by saying it's a small place, the staff is doing the best they can, and they try not to turn any living being around. Therefore, yes, there's a wait in the office, yes, you'll be placed on a long hold if you call during busy hours. That being said, I can confidently say East Irondequoit Animal Hospital is the best of the best. I have never come across such caring staff, from the front desk, the techs, Veterinarians, owner, etc... everyone is there to help and they'll make sure you feel supported.
I had ferals I was hand raising at the the end of last year with the purpose of getting them ready for a forever home.
On 12/25/17 a male 8 weeks old kitten got sick, I got home from a Christmas gathering with the family and he was covered in vomit, was struggling to breath. It was Christmas and our vet was closed. I rushed him to the emergency veterinarian clinic, there I was told he had an urethral obstruction, not common at that age and needed immediate treatment otherwise was going to die. I needed to put $1,500 down just for them to keep him alive overnight and then transfer him to our vet in the morning. I didn't count with the funds at the moment. I told them I had $300 and could work on getting some more throughout the night, they told me for $200 they could put him down and end his pain but there was nothing else they could do for that amount. Me having a medical background, played a card by asking them how much for emptying his bladder and give him something to calm the pain down overnight. The cost was $218 and I had to sign paperwork that I was taking him against medical advice because he might not make it till the morning. I spent the night loving him, keeping him warm, and praying a lot. In the morning I went to our vet, they were closed after Christmas, at that point I couldn't stop crying, I was a mess but then the on call vet told me to call East Irondequoit Animal Hospital and see if they could take him. I didn't even call, I went straight there. They took him straight back, the Dr came and asked if I was going to treat him, he was quickly deteriorating. When I asked about numbers before we proceeded because I needed to make sure I could pay, the Dr said "We can talk about that later, if you're treating him we need to start now, I'm not sure we can make it work because he is so tiny, there's not equipment here for him but we'll do our best. We need the okay to go on". I then knew Tomas was going to be okay. Tomas was fighting and as long as he was, I was going to fight with him. He was admitted 7 nights, it took me a few weeks to cancel my balance, and because we went through all this I ended up keeping the kittens. Tomas now is a pain in the butt, so curious, energetic, playful, but lovable, and a cuddling monster when he wants to lol... Every time I have to spray water on him to get him off my curtains, I laugh and remember I own that happiness to East Irondequoit Animal Hospital. I'll forever be thankful!!! Read Less
