Although they take care of dogs, mostly (judging by the waiting room), they are great with my cat!  She is very sensitive and they take that into account when examining her. My Grandfather and have been bringing our Dogs to Northgate Animal Hospital since before Dr. Hughes took over the business way back when.  We received excellent care then as well as today.As an adult, I'm working on raising My 3rd consecutive Yellow Labrador.  Dr. Hughes's attentive, knowledgeable, and compassionate Staff are beyond compare!  I've always felt comfortable giving them a call to ask the 'stupid' questions as well as the more severe, and am always met with some sort of calming and competent advice or suggestions that Do Not always begin with "You better bring him in to be seen for that"...  A refreshing change of approach.Thank You All for the Many Kindnesses granted over the years. I am DISGUSTED from the experience I just had with the receptionist at Northgate animal hospital. I called to make an appointment for my dog who hasn't been feeling well for about a week now... right off the bat the woman says we are not taking any new clients. I then told her that we had been there many years prior and asked if she could please look us up. Perfect! We are in the system therefore we are not a new client and you would think I could go ahead and make an appointment. She then hymmms and huhhhs and says sorry but we are double booked there is nothing open as she's trying to get off the phone with me. I had to again tell her i'm very worried about my dog and I asked when is the next available appointment even if we have to wait? She says try stoneridge or Greece animal hospital! Right from the beginning she had no intentions of helping me. Then she asks finally what's wrong with your dog? So I begin to tell her and I get all choked up and start crying as I'm explaining that he hasn't been eating or drinking and is acting very depressed he wouldn't even eat his favorite bubble gum bone he just held it between his paws when normally he gobbles them up in two seconds and is begging for another!! And shaking as he's laying on my lapSHE SAYS No we can't do business with you, ( I thought I was hearing things) you have a previous balance that was never paid OK NO PROBLEM I said how much is it? Obviously I didn't know and I'll pay it immediately i told her... she says it's $40 but even if you pay it we WILL NOT see you and your dog!!!! I pretty much begged for an appointment and apologize and told her I would pay my $40 balance right now over the phone. She interrupts me and says NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND WE CHOOSE NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU!!! I can't believe the way that I was talk to and how insensitive this woman was! I have a cat that was recently diagnosed as diabetic. Dr. Hughes and his staff have taken wonderful care of her. We are trying to get her sugar under control and he's very accommodating. Dr. Hughes and his staff also take care of my two dogs my 2 1/2 year-old Schnoodle and my 1 yr old Shih Tzu, they love going to see their vet and staff. And for a dog, any dog who likes going to the vets it's a plus in my book. They treat my girls like their own. Couldn't ask for a better Vet or staff. Being a new owner of a puppy i was worried to get taken advantage of with prices. This place has been my Primary vet for everything since day one and they are super helpful, Not overpriced and Realistic. Worst doctor/place ever! I just moved to the area and made an appointment to renew my dog's prescription. When you arrive, the place is dark, to hide the grime of the old building apparently. The doctor never looked at me, didnt introduce himself, was rude, and only spent about 30 seconds on her exam. He said he would give me one months supply only, "maybe" up to 6 months if I had all her records sent, but certainly not the year's supply that every other vet had given her! She has been on the meds her whole 8 years and does not require an exam every few months, so a vet can line their pockets. The vet did not answer my questions on anything else, and just ignored me, as did his assistant. I refused to pay for this crappy service since now I will have to find another vet to provide her prescription. The front desk staff were also rude and indifferent. Never go here! Read Less

Dr Hughes has been taking care of my six year old ShihTzu for the past week. She had a slipped disc and unable to use her hind legs. After a few days in his hospital she is now able to stand a few minutes. We can see some improvements. Read Less

Dr. Hughes is Dr. Doolittle as far as we are concerned. He will get right down and talk to your animals. So calm and soothing. Staff takes his lead and are just as caring. They are knowledgeable and helpful even when your dog is sprayed by a skunk. Highly recommended.Read Less

I have been coming here with my pets since I was a child back in 1984. I have long since moved to Brockport, but continue to make the trip to Northgate Animal Hospital with my cats for all of their medical needs.
