My daughter strongly suggested we go to Suburban animal hospital because she LOVED Dr. Blair. In deed we went and he was wonderful, very compassionate when we had to put two dogs down. Purchased new dogs, used the $75 coupon to get the dogs fixed at University because you can't BEAT that deal. We used Suburban for everything else though. We boarded our dogs here before and didn't have a problem. The nice thing was if they found anything else while your dog was there when they did their scheduled exam, they called us before doing ANYTHING, to get approval. Same for our daughter, they call before any additional treatments etc. So on Labor Day weekend, we made reservations to board our two dogs. We were given a price and were expecting the $200 ish for boarding as well as we knew our one dog was due for exam and shots. Well after we're on the road they call to advise it's going to be an extra $200, because our other dog needed an exam and shots as well. That's a significant increase so I was upset (their excuse was when we made the reservation he was ok, but then in the two weeks since we made the reservations, his old immunizations expired. REALLY!! And you didn't "see it". So I was upset, but we were already out of the state. When I asked for the office mgr, she said he had to have the shots THEN or he couldn't stay... What could we do, we were already out of the state!! So I'm ticked, but what are we going to do, they're getting an extra $200. Then we get back and our daughter goes to pick up the dogs for us, since we had to work and there's an ADDITIONAL $60 because they had to put medicine in his throat because he was homesick and crying alot. What happened to the call to get permission before any additional treatments/meds??? AT THIS POINT WE MUST BE GETTING PUNKED!! So now our daughter pays for the additional $300 that we didn't have any clue about when dropping the dogs off. I called when I hear about it and said I wanted to talk to Dr. Blair. The receptionist said is that because you're going to dispute the additional $60.00? I told her I wanted to discuss the whole visit. So originally I felt the issues were totally with the office staff. I waited and waited, and... well still waiting, no call. So clearly this "situation" was condoned by the doctor, that's the only reason we could imagine we didn't get a call back from the Dr. when he knows, at this point, they have a VERY disgruntled patient. I wouldn't expect this behavior from our children's dr., why would I expect it from our fur babies dr? I really feel like disputing the $60 because permission was never given... nor was it ever asked for. Needless to say, this visit has cost them a number of "patients".. We WON'T be returning and will tell all that ask what happened. Us finding a new vet may have been averted.. even after being charged well over double what the visit was going to call, by the doctor making a requested return call from a client that just paid them over $600 for a weekend stay!!
