I've been using Scarsdale Animal Hospital for decades since Dr. Hunter worked there. Dr. Starr is intelligent, innovative, and gentle. Although I've met many vets and pet care specialists throughout the nation doing volunteer work and working in pet care, there are many reasons why I prefer Scarsdale Animal Hospital. Instead of a corporate environment with high turnover offering deals on healthcare, my dogs are treated based on their needs when they need them. Dr. Starr does house calls if you're close and your pet can't stand the vet's office or just can't get there. Scarsdale Animal Hospital utilizes Western medicine, Eastern medicine (acupuncture with electro stim, herbs), supplements, massage, essential oils, and other therapies such as laser and stem cell. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I've been coming here for years, but the doctor who saw my cats retired and we got stuck with Dr. Zelkin. Absolutely no compassion with my animals. I brought my cat in because she needed to be spayed, and apparently female cats need to be kept there overnight after the operation. I wasn't comfortable with this because there are constantly dogs barking and my cats aren't familiar with that. When we picked her up the next day, we noticed a big cut on her head, and hair was missing. When we mentioned it to them, they claimed it happened in our household, and not their establishment. I was furious, how dare they try to put that on me, when it clearly happened there. My cat was scarred for WEEKS, not acting herself and not interacting with my other cats as she normally would. I'm not bringing my cats here ever again, and neither should you. It's not worth it. Especially if your animals mean as much to you, as they do to me and my family. Read Less

I have known Dr. Alexander Starr for over 15 years and during that time, he was my preferred vet for all of my rescue animals, mostly Saint Bernards.  Conservatively, I would guess he has seen approximately 150 of my various animals and never have I had a complaint, problem or issue with his treatment, judgment, advice or handling of my animals.  Even the most vicious and difficult dogs trusted Dr. Starr and I always found him to be compassionate and fair.  Many times, Dr. Starr saved us from more expensive treatments I would have accepted in order to help my dogs, which is admirable since we are all so vulnerable when your beloved pet is in distress.  Even when I moved 40 miles away from his location, I continued to bring my dogs to Dr. Starr due to the trust we had built over the years.  From my experience, I believe Dr. Starr has a genuine love for animals and a sense of fairness to humans.  He has a deep understanding of the science behind veterinary medicine and takes pride in his work.   If you are looking for a new vet, you and your pet deserve to at least check out Dr. Starr! I have been going to Dr. Zielkin for over 7+ years. He is extremely patient with my dog Zeus who is a handful. His front staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We have been going here for several years. Dr. Zelkin has been good with the cats. Our male cat keeps getting into fights with other cats and other animals at night. So we have to bring him in for these wounds. Each time, Dr. Zelkin has done a good job with Siam. However, on this last visit I was not happy at all. My wife and I were deciding on whether the he should stay in the hospital or come home. He had a drain on his wound and it would be leaking all over the place, so we decided to keep him there until the drain was removed. The receptionist told us it was only $20 a night. That seemed cheap but we were ok with it. We kept him there until the drain was removed. Which was 3 days. When we went back to get him, they told us it was $45 a night because it was medical boarding which is more expensive. We said that we were not told that price. They were going to speak to the person that told us $20. Karen or Kathy I believe is her name. When I went today to have Dr. Zelkin look at him and give him his shots, I was told by (Kathy/Karen) that she was sorry for the miscommunication. She thought he was just boarding but she knew he just had an operation. That is why were were there in the first place. Basically, she gave us the wrong price and won't own up to it. We have spent several thousand dollars there over the years and they will not honor a price that they gave us. Can't believe the horrible reviews.  I have gone to Dr Hunter for years for my cats.  She is the most amazing cat veterinarian in the county and she absolutely adores each and every animal she sees.  The receptionists are wonderful and always ask to  see my boys (who are very vocal) and my cats receive great care and sooo much love at this office.  The office itself is in need of an update but my cats are there for the doctors, not the decor.I moved to upper Westchester and have tried vets up here only to return to Dr Hunter and Scarsdale Animal Hospital.
