If I could choose 0 stars, I would. I have never encountered a veterinarian's office with such rotten customer service. The majority of the staff here are rude, unprofessional and don't care about the animals, just about making money for the company. The vet techs are great, but the front desk staff and their supervisor are HORRIBLE...with the exception of the tall, skinny one with dark hair. My wife and I have 3 dogs on the wellness plans, we pay a lot of money to this place every month...yet the wait time to get in is ridiculous, and forget it if there is an emergency. This place is a joke. Spend the extra money and take your fur baby to a real vet. After the way that we were treated today, we will be pulling all of the dogs off the wellness plans and going elsewhere. Read Less

This is Kismets regular vet. I really like Dr. Mel and Jennifer - they are knowledgable, have a terrific bedside manner and make me feel like a valued pet parent.  I had to bring Kis in after having a rough experience elsewhere over the weekend. Jennifer was so great with him and Dr. Mel just loved him. They ran some tests, listened to what I was saying, and together we came up with a game plan to treat Kis. I got a prescription for him for some special food (which has been really helping!) and I had an issue with my card so I had to run to the bank and grab cash, but they just made him comfortable in a kennel, he even fell asleep! :) When I got back, I paid the bill and Jennifer got him back into his carrier. I appreciated their flexibility.I feel Banfield truly has our best interest at heart, and I feel comfortable bringing Kismet there for his check-ups and any other reason.  I recommend Dr. Mel and Jennifer, they were so great with Kis and I am so thankful. These are fake vets, they do not know what they are doing and do not treat your dog accordingly. Let me give you the story that I have so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, and I would STRONGLY recommend that if you are using these people to do some research and find a different more qualified vet and not a cookie cutter one. I had a German Shepard/Lab mix, very healthy. I kept him up to date on everything and he hasn't had very many health problem if any at all. Unfortunately, these people was his vet since he was 6 weeks old and because he never had any health problems I didn't know any better, but here it my story: Towards the end of June of 2017 my dog ate a plastic container, he threw most of it up and was acting completely and 100% normal and it wasn't his first time chewing up plastic, so like anyone else I didn't think anything of it. About a week later he started coughing. On July 4th he started coughing and coughed up blood, the vet wasn't open so I couldn't call in. After he coughed up the blood his coughing wasn't as much, so I thought okay well maybe that's a good sign. On the morning of July 5th I was on my out the door with him to take him to the bathroom and again he coughed and coughed up blood but it also seemed like he was having trouble breathing. The moment Banfield opened I called them to make an appointment for my dog to be seen and requested that an X-ray be done to see if perhaps maybe he had a piece of plastic stuck somewhere. Now keep in mind, my dog is still behaving normal, eating and drinking normal, playing normal, just acting like his normal self. Banfield asked that I bring him in on the Morning of July 6th at 7:00 a.m. so that they can examine him, now I had to work so unfortunately I had to leave him there unattended by me and in their care. When I arrived at 7:00 a.m. with my dog, I told them the same story I told them over the phone again and requested that my dog have an X-ray this way we could find out what was going on. The girl at the desk McKenzie stated that I should sign up for the Wellness plan since the X-rays are included in the plan, so I did, for the soul purpose of them doing the X-rays as requested by ME. I left there at about 7:30 a.m. thinking my dog was in good care. At about 12:45 p.m. the vet finally called me to tell me that they DID NOT do the X-rays because they thought it would be a waste of time and money but that they did blood work and everything looks normal. They referred me to a specialist for an endoscopy. I picked him up at about 5:45 p.m. that day and paid $105.00 (for nothing). The following morning July 7th I called the specialist to see how much it would cost for an endoscopy to be done they quoted me between $1,800.00 and $2,500.00. I'm not Rockefeller so I told them I would call them back. Now my dog has stopped eating. I called numerous people for help to see if maybe they had a payment plan that I could work with so that I could have an X-ray done like I asked Banfield who REFUSED to do it. I came across Guilderhaven who told me to go to Aqueduct Animal Hospital and that they would do an X-ray for me and they would help me with the cost. In the meantime, my dog is getting progressively worse, I called Banfield to tell them that ever since I left my dog with them he has been getting worse and stopped eating the day I brought him back home, the women on the phone was a complete jerk and told me that it was my fault because I haven't taken him to the specialist like the vet told me to. Finally on July 19th I got my dog into Aqueduct to have the X-rays done like I had originally requested Banfield to do, and guess what, On July 22nd I had to put my 9 year old baby boy to sleep because of LUNG CANCER which would have been picked up if Banfield did their job to begin with and DID THE X-RAY like I requested, but instead my dog suffered longer than he should have until I found out what was wrong with him and practically starved to death because of them. And explain to me how his Blood Cell Count was Normal ???? It is completely impossible. Read Less

Very unhappy...I have 4 dogs. 2 go to this banfield the other 2 go to a 5 star vet. At banfield they never treat your dog in the room in front of you, they always take them in the back room away from us. Even if it is a simple procedure like take blood. My other vet does everything even stapled a dog pad back on in front of me. This place wont even clip a nail with us watching. If you are early then will not take you even when there are no other patients. Nope you must wait until your actual appointment time. Yes this has happened, and you can see in the exam rooms and they were empty. If you need an emergency visit you might as well forget it. 3 days after my dog's appointment which he had his nails clipped (not in front of me ..in the secret backroom of torcher) his nail fell out... They would not see him unless I did a drop off (which means drop him off and come back and get him later) no thank you. It takes my dogs 2 days after an appointment to not act traumatized. Of course after talking to another banfield they were more than happy to give me headquarters phone number... Which on Monday I will ba calling. Btw so much for a discount with having wellnesd program...cant use it If they won't see you. Oh wait as I am typing this they called to say they have an opening at 5 that just opened up....no thank you...i will soak his foot and put antibiotic cream on until monday and take him to professional 5 star veterinarians. My boyfriend and I were 10-15 minutes late to our appointment because our cat isn't use to being put in crates, it took a little longer than we thought. Than we accidentally went to the wrong petsmart. I understand appointments are made for a reason, but there is such a thing as human error. We made a mistake that put us back 10-15 minutes. We get there and the receptionist first off, plays on the computer for a minute or two before saying "Can I help you?" With confusion in her tone. We said yes we're here for our cat's appointment. She then says our appointment is over. We have multiple pets, this is not the first time we have come to Banfield. Every other time we have waited about 20-30 minutes to get into a room-and yet we're a few minutes late and you refuse to take us? Their excuse was that the Vet was going on lunch. Okay, if the appointment is only going to take 10-15 minutes can you do us a favor, give us benefit of the doubt, and not make us stress our cat even more. Like I said he was not used to crates, we're standing there and they hear the cat crying/meowing with that disturbing deep tone and drooling out of his mouth from stress. Then a male receptionist says to us you expect the vet to miss her lunch? She is mandated by law to take a lunch... You just told me my appointment was only going to take 10-15 minutes, so this vet only gets 10-15 minutes for lunch? Nothing made sense. These people don't care about your pet. My boyfriend went back in to get a number to call and the receptionist made him wait first so she could go tell the Vet he was going to complain. She came back out and says that the Vet wouldn't mind if he called and complain and that she is now out to lunch... how professional we couldn't even speak to the actual vet. It wasn't even 12 o'clock yet. I've read reviews and spoken to actual customers of this place and they tried turning them away-I kept telling those people no, no not all Banfield's are the same. They proved me wrong. Read Less

Don't waste your money. Take your pet to an experienced Vet.  My dog had an ear infection that was not treated. He had a skin hot spot and ear infection. I was given a cream med for the hotpots and antibiotic for the ear. No flush for the ear or drops. His ear turned into a mess. This all happened in Niskayuna Banfield NY by Dr. Perogine.   by the time I seen behind his big floppy ears I was in NC and it was a mess. He was all infected terribly. I took him up to Virginia Beach which was the closest to me. About an hour away.  It was nice of them to take me in being I still had to wait till the end of the day. (Your regular vet would not do this) Sad part is he is still not well after 5 days. He is running a fever just a few days later and I am no longer near a Banfield and they refuse to give me an antibiotic without seeing him and they have no openings to even see my dog. I have to wait until Tuesday.   I was never even given another antibiotic by Dr. Noce for this awful ear infection at the Banfield in Virginia Beach..  A flush and ear drops.  And they said even if I did come all the way up to Virginia Beach they couldn't see him. Whats the purpose of a health plan with them when they cannot see you in an emergency. They are in over their heads with pets and not enough hospitals This is the second issue. My dog also was taken off heart worm pills and put on a heart worm shot. DO NOT EVER DO THIS. WHY?  Because it does not protect them from getting certain types of parasites and the pill does.  So with this said I am out of the plan and will get a few vets I can trust with my dog that are near my two homes I travel to often.  My pet is my family member and If I am not getting the care I need then I am not going to use Banfield services. Yes it used to be convenient but now they are way over their capacity and some of the veterinarians are not all that great. I said some - I have had a few that were wonderful. Good luck Banfield getting the balance of payments I owe to you. I am not paying for a service that I am not able to use or get proper treatment for my baby. Read Less

The only other review on here is outdated. This weekend my dog had a need for an urgent appointment. This is THE ONLY Banfield in the area that could even be bothered to take a look at him. Latham is, sorry was, his home office and they could not see him until Wednesday, then called me back and said he could be seen with a significant wait time and an "emergency fee". I was instructed to "call around". Clifton park was our next try who told us to "go to a pet hospital, that is what they are there for. We treat for preventative health". I pay into a wellness plan for Banfield and was baffled that in an emergency no one could help us. I was ready to cancel my pets plan and never step food in another Banfield again until my husband called Niskyuna and spoke with Nancy. They not until told us to come right over to assess the situation. Once we were there the doctor was able to care for him same day as he needed surgery! We will be transferring care to this location. Everyone here has great attitudes and a good knowledge of pet care! We were lucky to find this place! Read Less

Great staff. All the doctors are very knowledgeable. However the wait times are ridiculous. Even if you're on time for your appointment you end up waiting an hour to see the doctor. And if you're late, forget about it. You'll either have to reschedule or wait even longer. At a 10:30am appointment on a Saturday we waited 70 min to see the doctor. Finally done at noon. My dog had an appointment at 11:30 this morning. We are members of the Optimum Wellness Plan and I have been paying this vet for 3 and a half years to care for her. I was a little late for my appointment, about 10 minutes and then I stood in the waiting area for another few minutes waiting to be helped...even though I could see a handful of associates chatting in the back room. When I was finally helped, I apologized for being late and I was rudely informed that I would have to reschedule my appointment. Ten minutes late. I drove 45 minutes to get to that appointment. I work 50-60 hours a week and don't have a regular schedule...I do not get a regular day off and planning for this appointment was a month in the making. I have never been treated so poorly in any customer service related industry, especially not one that I trust to care for the most important little creature in my life. I pay for her to have these appointments every month, whether we actually attend your facility or not. I am absolutely disgusted with this experience.Read Less

The vet tech (sorry did not get her name) gets an overwhelming excellent. She did more to assess my dog in one minute all while interacting with my dog, making him feel special and comfortable. The vet is another story, he gets a resounding FAIL. He scruffed my dog roughly to the table (this with a pomeranian of 7.5lbs.), did not do a comprehensive exam (which I pay a monthly for). He roughly injected 2 vaccines, one on either side of my dog's shoulders. The second one I was holding my dog's head (stupidly, I should not by then have been concerned with the vet not getting bitten) and I got bit. The vet actually chuckled! Said, OH YEAH, that one really stings them! I said you should have told me, I'd NOT have held my dog's head. He smiled and said OOPS! With my finger bitten thru and bleeding, he just started leaving the room. I had to ASK for band-aid, as my finger was bleeding profusely. I am fighting cancer and cannot risk infections. The vet had no interest in interacting with my dog, made my dog extremely frantic and agitated. This was NOT a good visit. I will question returning even though I still have to pay the monthly Wellness Program. Read Less

This was not a good visit.  The vet tech (sorry did not get her name) was absolutely FANTASTIC.  She did more in one minute of assessing my dog while making him feel special talking to him than the vet did in his 5min.The vet:  Came in with a stench that preceded him of awful cologne that I'm allergic to.  That's a personal issue, my throat closes up, I flush, head pain and vomiting typically ensue.  I cannot believe animals would care for fragrances. That's the least of it.  The vet never acknowledged my dog.  My dog is a pomeranian weighing 7.5lbs.  The vet scruffed the dog down to the table, one thing that absolutely terrifies my dog is being held by the scruff (issues from being a puppy before we got him) to inject one vaccine on one side of dog's body, then scruffed roughly again to inject the next vaccine on other side.  Since I (STUPIDLY) held my dog's head so as him not to bite the VET, my dog bit me.  The vet chuckled!!!  He said, "OH YEAH, that one is a REAL stinger for them!"....I said why didn't you TELL me that, I'd NOT have held my dog's head.  He just smiled and said "OOPS".I pay a monthly fee for the Wellness Program for preventive care and for comprehensive exams.  There was NO comp exam performed before the vaccines. My dog bite was completely ignored, though my finger was bleeding profusely in two places.  I personally am fighting cancer so infections have got to be avoided.I had to actually ASK for a band-aid.  Then I had to ask for antiseptic first.NOT a good visit for my dog or myself.  My dog had trouble walking the whole rest of the day into the next day.  When calling Banfield to report, was only told to give my dog Benadryl (for pain...???)....I would not do that, as my dog had already received the 2 vaccines and deworming by mouth as well.  (Benadryl is not for pain but for allergic reactions, maybe they recommend it for the dog to sleep).I'd not even give them ONE star, but for the vet tech--she gets a 5.Very disappointed, will question returning though I will still have to pay the monthly Wellness program.

I have been a customer at banfield pet hospital in Schenectady, Ny and I pay a monthly fee for my dogs to have a wellness plan. Which is suppose to help prevent and health problems. This being said, my dog Dakota has been very ill. He has been throwing up none stop for a few days now. I call and try to get by dog seen. When the very rude lady at the desk tells me we will have to wait in between appointments. I asked why and she said my dog is not ill enough to be seen right away.

Tough to plan your day around a 20 min appointment that takes an hour and a half. Read Less
