I have been nothing but impressed with this veterinary practice!!! Don't be fooled by the dated building and décor. It's the team within the walls that wowed me with experience, kindness, outstanding compassionate care and professionalism. Headed up by Dr. Hornfeck, his staff couldn't be more knowledgeable and friendly. Here are my reasons for my 5 star rank:
1.During my dog's exam, I noticed the copious notes Dr. Hornfeck took. I used to work for vets and have never seen such documentation. Every detail matters and was captured. He considers all the best new meds and the newest diagnostic practices. This man's experience has experience.
2. I was impressed with the intentional follow-up of the staff. Not one phone call, but 3! Not every day...but spaced out. They really do care and it's tangible. The girls can answer almost any question and they reminded me never to hesitate calling with any and all concerns or questions.
3. I experienced Dr. Hornfeck kindly correct the recommendations of one vet (from my vacation ER situation). He respectfully explained why he needed to change medications. I really felt like I found the best vet around.
4. The people/animal focused atmosphere has been set from the top down. Unrushed kindness moves the staff and smiles are plentiful from everyone. It made me want to apply for a job there. The whole group is a well oiled machine. My compliments! I'm glad I found them and highly recommend them to anyone with an ailing pet.

Always friendly, caring about your animals. Same vet has been there forever and that is a plus. It has that personal touch, you are not just a number. I have been going there with my pets (when I've had them) for decades. He, the vet, always remembers me. That makes me feel special. Now where can you find that special attention? And it's affordable! None of that making you feel guilty if you don't have the money or can't do what they want you to do like other places, and no unnecessary procedures. We have had several animal's - dogs and cats. We have been going to Dr. Hornfeck for over 30 yrs. Never had a problem. All our animal's lived to ripe old ages and died of natural causes. Our oldest animal was 17 yrs old, when he died. Our current dog is 16 yrs old and has been treated by Dr. Hornfeck since he was a puppy. So, I have no complaints. They must have been doing something right!

I have been going here for over 10 years. The staff and doctor are nice and friendly. Prices are reasonable, but understand vets are expensive anywhere you go. Owning an animal is not cheap, especially if you have one that develops health issues. I feel the Dr is very knowledgeable however, just like with your own Primary care doctor, ask questions, ask about tests that can be done, do research. If something doesn't 'feel right', speak up. That said, I trust the doctor and wouldn't go somewhere else unless he retired.

Our cat was acting lethargic. We brought her in and left her there the whole day. I told the vet that her tongue was white (low blood count). Dr. finally got to her and said...

Our cat was acting lethargic. We brought her in and left her there the whole day. I told the vet that her tongue was white (low blood count). Dr. finally got to her and said she just had fleas, gave her a flea bath, said she'd be fine and sent her home. My cat died less than six hours later.
It was a horrific death. My children are forever traumatized, as am I.
They still required us to pay the bill, too, even though they only gave her a flea bath...and failed to give her the transfusion she needed. $175 for "crating my cat" and giving her a flea bath.
Do not use this vet. Please.
Find a different vet, I implore you. We even considered standing outside the practice with signs, but just couldn't manage the time.

My dog is not doing well and I will have to take him to the emergency clinic. DO NOT GO THERE!!! This vet is INCOMPETENT and will kill your dog.

We have been going here for years, the staff is very nice, but if your dog is sick... take them to another vet.
My dog was coughing and her nose was runny, we took her here and the doctor examined her...
We have been going here for years, the staff is very nice, but if your dog is sick... take them to another vet.
My dog was coughing and her nose was runny, we took her here and the doctor examined her and took her temperature. He said she had a fever, but it was because we put a sweater on her. (first time I've heard that excuse to having a fever)
Our dog was coughing, sniffling, and had a fever BUT he disregarded everything and told us she just had allergies. Did't even consider doing blood work.
Our dog was getting worse so we took her to another vet, they told us she had walking pneumonia. Which we left untreated for a week due to sunnyside's vet's advice.
Our dog has been on 4 different antibiotics since and is still struggling to breathe.
I understand that misdiagnosis' happen, but to have the vet completely disregard my dogs fever and disregard giving her any medicine that would of helped.. (even for allergies or a cold) is not acceptable. Every pet owner should have a vet who cares about their pet.

We used to take the dogs to Sunnyside, until we picked up the Sheltie and was filthy dirty. We boarded her while we were away and when i picked her up after a long day of work, (all the staff was clueless to what was going on) i had to come home to shampooing her. Not a good way to end the day and come home after a long weekend. We use Burnt Hills Vet now and they are fantastic. I highly recommend them, stay away from Sunnyside.

I have been going here for over 10 years. The staff and doctor are nice and friendly. Prices are reasonable, but understand vets are expensive anywhere you go. Owning an animal is not cheap, especially if you have one that develops health issues. I feel the Dr is very knowledgeable however, just like with your own Primary care doctor, ask questions, ask about tests that can be done, do research. If something doesn't 'feel right', speak up. That said, I trust the doctor and wouldn't go somewhere else unless he retired.

Our cat was acting lethargic. We brought her in and left her there the whole day. I told the vet that her tongue was white (low blood count). Dr. finally got to her and said she just had fleas, gave her a flea bath, said she'd be fine and sent her home. My cat died less than six hours later.
It was a horrific death. My children are forever traumatized, as am I.

We used to take the dogs to Sunnyside, until we picked up the Sheltie and was filthy dirty. We boarded her while we were away and when i picked her up after a long day of work, (all the staff was clueless to what was going on) i had to come home to shampooing her.
