We thought our 12 year old lab Tank was down for the count after he fell down.  He had only been to 2 other vets since we had him from 11 weeks old. We took him religiously for wellness visits and they knew about his hip Dysplacia and we never had a conversation about treatment. When he fell we were told to bring him to an orthopedic specialist and we found Shirley Animal Hospital on our own. When we brought him in we were expecting the worst thought imaginable for our fur baby. Dr.  Archer reassured us he would be fine and was shocked we were not treating for his illnesses (that's right multiple -- turns out he has severe arthritis and hip dysplacia that had gone untreated).   After 20 weeks of therapy he is doing amazing. We cannot believe what Dr.  Archer and Kat has done for him!   We will continue with his therapy as long as he needs!! Read Less

Don't EVER take your animal to Shirley Veterinary Hospital on Montauk Hwy.....they misdiagnosed my cat, put him on the wrong medicine and due to that, I came home to find my cat of 13 years, dead. His bloodwork came in and proved he should never have been put on the meds to begin with. Please, PLEASE do not bring your furbabies there. No one should have to go through something like this. Dr. Archer and staff took care of Rudy (60 lb beagle/bulldog) after bilateral TPO surgery.  He spent 1-week in-patient at their facility and then 12 weeks of rehab as an out-patient.  My husband and I are both nurses and we would never have been able to do this without their help!Staff are friendly, kind and very attentive.  The rehab made such a difference in Rudy's progress, he's like a bionic beabull now!! Dr. Archer and Cath from Healing Hands 4 Paws are passionate about all animals. They saved my dogs Balto's life with physical therapy, laser therapy and hydro therapy. He also goes to Shirley Vet for yearly check-ups. Shirley Vet also kept my dogs safe when I boarded them when I was on vacation. Dr. Archer and staff was so amazing with my roomates new Doberman puppy today. The pup was obviously scared with her first vet visit but literally 5 other people from the staff were giving her treats and trying to make her feel as wecome and comfortable as she could. They also gave such good advice, spent a lot of time for the exam, and got some shots.  Best vet experience I ever had, Dr. Archer loved the pup so much he even asked to take a pic with her for the website and was so excited to be her doc.  Great place for your pet care needs!!! My beagle boy had a biopsy with Dr Infarnuso. A staff member stayed the night with my beagle boy. I was kept informed at all times. I felt comfortable leaving my beagle there. I would recommend this Veterinary Hospital. Read Less

The doctor actually takes the time to listen. He didn’t try to force unnecessary testing on us to run up the bill. The staff is friendly and also very careing. They were able to fit us in the same day I called. The wait was Aprox 15 minutes but like I said it was added to the day. My wife and I woke up this morning to find that our dog had an outbreak/rash on his face and mouth. It was quite a scare because it was unexpected and we had no idea what was happening. We recently moved out to bellport and had not found a new vet to take care of our pup. I looked up reviews and found Shirley vetinary hospital to have some great feedback. Called as soon as they opened and they got us an appointment within the next 40 minutes.The secretary was great and very friendly! Our vetinarian was Dr. Sarah Alward, she was phenomenal! You can tell her true passion for animals! She took her time allowing our pup to get comfortable with her and was extremely throuogh with her examination. The overall price of the visit was extremely reasonable as well, and that's including the medicines they perscribed! Overall 10 out of 10 experience! Very upset with the staff. First of all I called to make an appointment bc I adopted my first kitten from the shelter. The paperwork told me to go to this vet. So I called an I noticed I was a day over the free clinic visit so I asked the girl from the front desk if it would be ok if they waved it an she said yes of course but u must be seen today. So I go in an they tell me oh no you have to pay your visit. So I was lied to an to top it off my cat had worms an fleas which I know is my problem but they didn’t care to help me with my free first visit. I see they are very money hungry an I will never return. I believe low cost vet care is way better!! Read Less

I drive an hour each way to take my dogs to Shirley Veterinary Hospital. This Veterinary Hospital is the BEST! I been to many closer to me and none come close to the care, compassion, treatment that my dogs get from Dr. Archer and staff. Dr. Archer & his staff are professional, friendly, kind, answer all your questions, amazing to my dogs and so passionate about helping all animals. The office is updated, clean and they even have a room for dogs to relax that is comfortable, calming and like home. They also have a rehabilitation center with hydro therapy, treadmill, laser, physical therapy and so much to offer. My dogs are happy and healthier since I been bringing them to Dr. Archer and they are enjoying a Great Quality of Life. I highly recommend Shirley Veterinary Hospital to all! Read Less

The quality of the vet care might have been good at one time, but it has gone downhill very quickly.  The front office staff is disorganized and unhelpful, even going so far as to complain about the equipment in front of clients..........that is, once someone actually helps you!  While I was there, I saw one of the technicians being extremely rough with a dog in her charge (be wary of the tech with the long black hair and nasty attitude) and was given an absolutely ridiculous price for medication and vaccines - do they not realize that people can get medications online for half the price?  Also, I understand that this facility does physical therapy for pets, but I overheard a couple of the workers there stating that one of the pets wasn't going to get their treatment because "he's a drop off.......the owner won't know the difference".  If you are planning on using this service, please stay with your pet - you are probably not getting your money's worth.  The last note about this place is the fact that the building is literally falling apart......if the things that the clients see aren't working, what does that see about the things they DON'T see?!  Never ever going there again or recommending them to ANYONE!!!! I want to start off this with saying although I will not be coming back, my first visit with my new kitten was great with Dr. Archer.   My next two I saw a different vet and both appointments I left overcharged and unsatisfied with the quality of the visit and the attitude of the staff.   My most recent visit, I waited 10 minutes in the waiting room to be checked in by the staff (while waiting I heard them all chatting and gossiping in the back) that one of the men working on the renovation had to get their attention that someone was waiting. Another 15 minutes goes by, and I finally see a vet tech. Then another 10 or so until I actually met with the veterinarian. I mentioned my kitten has been scratching her ears frequently and he suggested he take swabs and look at them through a microscope, to check for any sign of mites or an infection. He told me that it should take about 10-15 minutes.   After waiting nearly 30 minutes in the exam room for the results, I was told they messed up the swab and needed to dry out the other swab. Another 20-25 minutes goes by and I finally get the vet in the room. Another 10 minutes goes by until I'm at the counter to pay.    The employee ringing me up was very unprofessional and clearly did not enjoy her job. She could not figure out the computer system, then kept saying to herself how dumb the computer is, how annoying everything is. I can quote her perfectly saying "is it 7 yet?!" (I assume this was when she got off of work). This was all done directly in front of me. After waiting over an hour all together during this visit, to witness this woman be so unprofessional, I was appalled and in disbelief of how unsatisfactory something as simple as a vet visit could be.   As someone who has worked in customer service and has managed a cafe, everything about my visit was absolutely unacceptable. After my former Vet shut down out of nowhere and no records were to be found, I took my pets to Shirley Vet. A few years ago one of my dogs developed cancer and Dr Archer took phenomenal care of my girl. He took time to answer my hundreds of questions and those he could not answer he sought out answers from colleagues who specialized in her disease, all while keeping my budget and her comfort in mind. When she passed away, they were so thoughtful and kind and sent a card with their condolences. I could not have asked for better care for her. Still, their professionalism and attentiveness did not end there. They continue to care for my dogs now and when I can catch him and get him in a crate, my cat as well. Dr Edwards has since joined the staff and he maintains the same standards of excellence. He explains everything to me, I never have to call for test results and he answers all my questions. He shows amazing patients with my boy who can be a bit rambunctious and sets him at ease. When I had to go away to a wedding recently, As much as it killed me to leave my dogs behind for the weekend, I knew there was no better care to be had than leaving them with Shirley Veterinary Hospital. Today was my first time at this vet thanks to the reviews here from other pet parents. My poor pup was feeling under the weather but was on the upside of her illness. I took her to see Dr. Edwards. I was very happy with his care and thoroughness of the exam and the course of treatment for my little girl. He and his staff were wonderful and if I lived up here, they'd be my vet. You can always tell when the vet is an animal lover vs being there to just do their job like my regular vet in Florida. He was great with my baby. Pricing was reasonable. Thank you!!! Read Less

Need organization!!! I tried like crazy to get my dog in for boarding and rehab during my vacation . Getting someone to call me back was a challenge, so I went in person to try and see the boarding facility, but they were too overwhelmed to help me. (I waited 20 minutes) another woman was standing around waiting for a prescription for the same amount of time. The people there are lovely and knowledgable. Too bad they don't have a manager that can help them make money and do great healing work for dogs. Read Less

I've been going to Dr. Archer for around 12 years, since he was still in Riverhead and I followed him to Shirley Veterinary Hospital. I've always found him to be a very friendly and knowledgeable vet and never felt like he pushed unnecessary products or procedures just to inflate his profits. I've brought a couple different dogs to Dr. Archer over the years and I truly feel like he cares about animals. I still go to Dr. Archer even though I no longer live anywhere near Shirley Vet Hospital. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a vet. Read Less

I have three dogs. I have been bringing them to Shirley Vet since they are puppies and have always been pleased with the care they received. The staff were pleasant and the Drs are very informative. When my dogs needed surgical procedures the Drs explained the procedure fully. My dogs were well cared for and recovered from surgery quickly. Read Less

Dr. Archer and his staff are the most compassionate and professional people. My dog, Cleo, passed away in 2014 from natural causes, after 15 long years of life where she was cared for and treated like a member of their family. On the day she passed it was after closing time for the hospital and I called Dr. Archer in a panic and he stayed open until I got there and worked diligently to try to revive her. Unfortunately, she didn't survive and it was a sad moment for us all. A few days later Dr. Archer and staff sent our family a sympathy card and cremated our beloved Cleo at no charge. In 2015, about a year later, they held an Adopt-a-thon and it was there I found my new baby girl Oreo. My family and I love her and we are so glad we have such a loving and caring vet like Dr. Archer! I just took a stray cat I take care of in for some sort of infection and everyone was very nice. There was an emergency while I was there but the staff was still very attentive, apologizing for the delay and bringing me coffee. Went to Dr archer with my cat Speedy. He was 15 years old and was not well. Dr Archer and his staff was great. Kept Speedy over night , But speedy didn't make it. Dr Archer is very compassionate man. I have been going to Shirley Vet since I was a child with my first dog before Dr. Archer was there. Dr. Archer is phenomenal! My cockapoo Chanel LOVES him and all of the staff!! She has been going to him for 8 years which is her whole life. Dr. Archer did Chanel's double luxating patella surgery along with Dr. Infernuso Dec 2014. It has been a little over a year and you would never even know that she had surgery! Her muscles in her legs are so defined thanks to the psyichal therapy the office did with her. They were amazing when Chanel had surgery! They were with her all day everyday, they let me come visit her 2 days after her surgery because I couldn't go without seeing her. They said she was doing amazing. It was all thanks to Dr. Archer and his staff!! Chanel, Nick and I thank you all so much for everything you do for us!! This is a review of Dr. Infernuso, who preformed surgery on my dog at this hospital.  Dr. Infernuso is a wonderful, caring physician. He operated on my dog Zoe in a hurricane. That's right, Dr. Infernuso didn't let little old Hurricane Sandy get in the way of his practice.From the very first consultation his dedication and skill was evident. First, Dr. Infernuso took the time to review x-rays and offer his opinion in great detail over the phone. It's a rare doctor who will discuss a case in any depth over the phone. From the x-rays he knew the problem and, importantly, how to fix it. This guy knows orthopedics the way some people know baseball statistics for their fantasy leagues. The injury was an old break in her hind leg. which her previous owners didn't bother to fix. As a result the surgery was potentially complex. Part of her leg bone (akin to our heel) had broken off and would need to be reattached or possibly secured with pins.When I met him for a consult, he again explained exactly what was wrong with her leg. He outlined three options, and the criteria he would use to decide among them. I left feeling I understood the range of possible outcomes and what the recovery would like for each. The day of the surgery went smoothly (except for the hurricane raging outside). The staff at Shirley Vet were lovely. They put up with many questions on Zoe's status  during the surgery. Dr. Infernuso ended up going with the middle option of the three he'd outlined. Dr. Infernuso walked me through the before and after x-rays to illustrate the work he'd done. It's been five weeks since the surgery and she is recovering very nicely. I'm a new dog owner, so didn't have a regular vet to see for bandage changes. No problem, Dr. Infernuso had a solution for that too. He referred me to a good vet with convient hours. One additional note, Dr. Infernuso text messages! It is the most wonderfully efficient way to get simple questions cleared up. He is very responsive. Read Less
