Recently switched to this animal hospital after I wasn't satisfied with my former vet. Dr. Kaplan did a thorough head to toe assessment of my puppy. The other animal hospital had no idea of to treat my 4 month old Shih Tzu's symptoms of diarrhea after his vaccines. Dr. Kaplan prescribed an antibiotic that treated the diarrhea and now we have a game plan on how to vaccinate him without the puppy being uncomfortable afterwards. What is also impressive to me is Dr. Kaplan actually makes the call himself on the phone to provide results even of something such as a stool sample. I have been going to the Smithtown Animal Hospital for over 20 years now.  I have to say how each time I go, I seem to be more impressed by the office staff and the docs. Dr. Kaplan and Dr. B area just truly amazing doctirs, but more important, truly amazing people. Their love for what they do and for each animal (pet) that they see is just truly amazing.I just finished up a strong treatment of a chronic ear infection in my shi tzu Luigi. Dr. K truly listened to all my concerns and saw this problem to a conclusion. He was extremely sympathetic to my concerns, listened, and together, he coached me to a successful outcome.  This was a very nasty ear (vestibular symptoms...look it up) infection that was first noticed on Christmas day 2016....8 months ago.  It kept on resurfacing, but now, I am confident that Luigi's ear is under control.Thank you to all and their wonderful and caring staff for their kindness and assistance.On a side note, I saw some happy dogs coming in fit bording.....What a nice service!Enjoy lunch today, it's on me! run away from this animal hospital, all this place wants is your money!!! let me explain.we have a lhasa that loves being active. been going to the smithtown animal hospital  for approximately 10 years,this facility knows from the top to bottom everything that is going on with my dogs well being. we have had every test you can imagine over the years, numerous blood tests, fatty tumors drained,numerous well visits,echocardiograms,x-rays, we do take care of our dog very very well. every time we go in the exam room and my dog is up on the table we always and i mean always discuss his jumping on or off a couch in the living room. we have been given rimadyl and also had shots of rimadyl for my dog. so the smithtown animal hospital is totally and fully aware of my dogs condition for all the rimadyl that has been given over the 10 year peroid......now here is reason why we quit today!! the money hungry smithtown animal hospital that we have been going to for so so long. we placed a call to 1800 pet meds last night for a 30 day supply of rimadyl. 1800 pet meds said we have to call  your dogs doctor first,ok no problem because my dogs has recieved the subscription for the longest time. now remember we were there last month in feb 2017 for his last well visit. sure enough the smithtown animal hospital said no we can not give the ok to 1800 petmeds on the rimadyl because my dog needs a blood test to see if he can be on the rimadyl.  what???   i pinched myself and said are we talking about the same dog here!!!! its fonzee you have been treating him here for 10 years, now he needs a $180.00 blood test??? then you can ok the pills? but i was there last month? and youve treated him numerous times for the same condition.......we quit the office 1 hour ago.....like i said run away from this place. there are so many places on jericho turnpike that i have been told about that are way better, care for your animal and are not going to rip you off.  peroid Read Less

I cant say enough about these wonderful people at Smithtown animal hospital Two weeks ago my husband and myself were in a serious car accident across the street from this animal hospital The employees ran out and pulled us out of the wreckage and saved us for what would have been a much worse disaster then it was . In addition, our goldendoodle was in the back seat . They grabbed him , took them to their facility and cared for him while we were brought to the hospital . They checked him out and even kept him overnight .....The next day when we sent someone to pick him up for us ( my husband was in critical ) they refused to take any payment for their services . Both doctors (Kaplan & Bergendorff) are extremely knowledgeable and caring. I have been a client of Smithtown Animal Hospital for the past 15 years. They have taken great care of my two greyhounds. The staff is fabulous. I have no difficulty getting an appointment. Time spent in the waiting room isn't very long at all. I sometimes board my greyhound Melanie there as well. I highly recommend Smithtown Animal Hospital. Dr. Kaplan is my vet and is really great with my cat. He's gentle, patient and really knowledgable. Since this is my first pet, he takes the time to answer any questions that I have, even if the answers are obvious to a seasoned pet owner. Dr. Kaplan really cares about my cat and takes his time in examining him, rather than rushing in order to see his next patient. What amazing doctors! I have never met a more patient, caring, knowledgable veterinarian as Dr. Kaplan. I have used many veterinarians in the past but no one comes even close to the care my dog gets with this office. I switched to smithtown animal hospital years ago when I had an emergency situation with a Shi Tzu pup. From that day on I have been a very happy customer and have all my pets (3 dogs and 1 cat ) under their care. Dr. Kim Bergendorff is a very caring Veterinarian who takes the time to listen and care for our pets. We recently had to put one of our golden Retrievers down and I was so happy with how everyone helped us to make this time as comfortable for all of us as possible.
