Where do I begin. Our family went through one of the most difficult times with our chocolate lab. Our little boy had experienced 3 seizures in 6 hours and we were so distraught. We were turned away from our veterinarian of almost a decade and didn't know where else to turn. A friend of ours recommended this animal hospital. We had called ahead and upon our arrival we were met outside by Dr. Silverstein and her team. They were so amazing and helpful in our time of need.         In the end we had to put our little boy to sleep rather than him suffer any longer. The staff of the animal hospital made the process and difficulty of this situation easier. The staff has such wonderful bedside manner and we will be forever grateful. I brought my 10 week old puppy here and she contracted kennel cough.  I had to take her to another animal hospital and now she is taking antibiotics.  The vet that we saw, Dr Silverstein is very young and does not seem very experienced.  My puppy was spayed and the stitches were supposed to be removed.  I realized after we left that she had failed to do so.  When I called to speak to her to inquire about this, she indicated that she was looking at the date we got her rather than the date of her surgery.  Needless to say, we had another vet remove them and will not be going back here. Thought it puppy had a uti he was struggling to pee with nothing coming out and crying.turns out he didn't but the doctor was very thorough and alerted us to eye problems we didn't know about and sun sensitivity we were also unaware of. I brought my kitten Mico @ 12wks old here & I continue to do so even though I have places closer to me because they truly care for their patients. The assistants are warm and caring and Mico feels very comfortable with them. They all give great advice not only in regards to Mico's health but also in regards to the type of insurance which would best suit me. If I had not gotton the advice I needed I would've purchased the wrong plan for my little guy. They saved me time & money. The Veterinarians are great and have patiently answered my questions. They explain things to me in detail making sure I have a clear understanding of what I need to do for Mico & why. I consider myself to be very lucky to have found the right people who continually provide a great enviornment not only for my Mico but for me as well. Both Dr Gothelf & Dr Silverstein are awesome and really take the time to understand & explain what your animal needs. Dr Gothelf did surgery on my one dog & I couldn't be happier. Staff is great too, they treat my dogs like their own with love and treats. Everybody is very friendly, they even offer to help carry out dog food when I pick it up. Dr. Silverstein is amazing.  We had left the practice under prior ownership, but returned once Dr. S became involved.  Can't say enough about how well our dogs are treated here.  From minor to major (hit by a car) the whole staff is second to none.  Highly recommend. Read Less

My cat and I are lucky to be in close proximity to such a wonderful place. I've had pets most of my adult life and have been to many animal hospitals and clinics, both in New York and on Long Island. Syosset Animal Hospital is, by far, the best experience my cat and I have ever had. The vets are very knowledgeable. Over the past year I had my kitten examined, spayed, and vaccinated there. All of the procedures and costs were reviewed with me before anything was to be done. Dr. Gothelf explained the laparoscopic spaying procedure to me in great detail, including the recovery period and the aftercare. All went exceptionally well and exactly as he had explained; by the way, the ultimate cost was actually less than what had been quoted. Dr. Gothelf is clearly well-informed on the recent advancements in veterinary medicine and it shows. He is a caring physician and my cat an I always feel very welcomed. Similarly, I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Silverstein. One evening, a couple of months ago, my cat ate chocolate (which, as it turns out, is more dangerous to cats than it is to dogs). I called the emergency number for the Syosset hospital and was quickly transferred to Dr. Silverstein. Unbelievably, this late in the evening, Dr. Silverstein interviewed me on what my cat had eaten, how much, and walked me through what needed to be done to assure my cat's safety. She had pulled out my cats chart in the meantime to get her weight and other stats. I was able to induce vomit and my cat was alright. I find these people to be so loving towards my cat, and so nice to me with my million questions and dumb stories ...it is really refreshing.I don't even live nearby anymore (moved to Manhasset) and still come all the way over here, becase they are so different then other vets. Plus I board her here, and she always comes back happy, clean, and always healthy.I am grateful to the staff here for taking such good care of my cat and me! I can highly recommend them to anyone. Unfortunately I had to give this vet one star when it does not deserve any. I have three pups at home and we took them here for about two years for minor issues. 1. Doggie # 1: had been getting cysts on its hip which had gone away the first time. The second time around the cysts came back Dr silverstein or whatever her name is did a culture and tissue sample on the cysts that had popped. She should have seen that there was a lot of dead tissue and the area was severely infected. We kept putting a spray on her which I later found out burns dogs. They gave me a ointment and antibiotic but neither was working because the area again was severely infected. We took her to another vet that said the antibiotic would have never worked and she needs to go into surgery to remove all the dead tissue. 2.Doggie # 2: My maltese was no more than 6 pounds. We had taken her a few months prior for a culture because i believed she had a UTI. They claim that she may have very well had a UTI, but that is very hard for me to believe. She was not getting better and since we put our trust in vets since they have the degrees we gave her a antibiotic. Few months later, I start to notice she is very skinny and not sure why. My puppy never had much of a appetite, but was insulted when the vet said I hope you are not giving her table food. Last time I checked giving a dog chicken with their meals is perfectly fine. She made me feel incompetent of taking care of our pets. Instead of checking how bony she was she said nope she gained weight and her teeth are really bad. I went there to resolve the puppy being so skinny not her teeth. Any good vet that would have seen my little girl would have known that this was not normal. Instead I put my trust in them and said she is ok. Few weeks later I see her slowly getting skinnier and skinnier. Unfortunately it was too late. All along she had something wrong with her liver and was not processing the proper nutrients. We had to put her to sleep due to the neglence of this vet. They are all about money. When I called to discuss doggie # 2 records I never got a prompt call and so I had to call. I had to yell at the receptionist to tell the other doctor who owns the practice to call me since I was an angry customer. Colleen was very helpful and remorseful, as for the other one she could care less like the doctor ms. silversten. All in all ill never get my puppy back, but this vet truly neglects the main issues of dogs and too busy recommending other things that have nothing to do with their condition. People forget that vets are not cheap and although $15,000 was spent on both dogs, it was because their cases were truly severe. We should not have to spend money on things that do not pertain to the condition of the our pets. Whats done is done. The male doctor is very nice, but still the trust and the way this places handles their cases is not up to par. Read Less

Awful experience.  The people choose to neglect a simple problem (guinea pig curled nail)  and fix.  They could have easily helped but chose not to.  It's all about the people and these just don't get it! Our dog Lady was treated there for an ACL injury and has since recovered fairly well for an older dog. Regardless of the outcome, Syosset Animal Hospital has great staff and doctors. Worst care and cost anywhere. Could care less about your pet, only that you leave a credit card that we'll charge $1,000 but probably credit it back. Yeah right - $4,000 later and our cat was sicker than when we brought him in. Then they wanted to do surgery for about $2,000 (probably $4,000). They even suggested that maybe we should just put the cat to sleep! We took our cat to North Shore Animal League, a place that actually cares about your pet, found out cat was on wrong medicine from this place, surgery was absoluetly not needed and for a grand total of $250 he was cured. If you like to waste money, get cheated and get terrible care for your pet, this is the place for you. Read Less

The staff are warm caring and friendly- the Doctors are wonderful. I know from experience they call you back on holiday weekend evenings! It's comforting to know in an emergency the doctors that know your pet will be there. They call and follow up and check in on how your pet is doing- thank you for taking such good care of Molly!! Everyone can appreciate an emergency vet visit on a Sunday morning $$ but this is how I found my new vet!! My 11 year old daughter wants to be a vet and loves science, so I was sorry I didn't bring her to the appointment. Dr. Gothelf was so thorough and informative - I know exactly what to expect, how to know if something is wrong, and how my puppy's eyeball is feeling (this wasn't a life-threatening situation). It was an education for me. He even gave me useful diet info which wasn't even why we were there! Erin was so helpful when I called and everyone was so patient and unrushed. I can't wait to meet Dr. Alerio for my pup's follow up next week and start bringing her and my 2 cats here for their regular care! Definitely recommend! Read Less
