So, I cried today, and really fighting back tears as I write this because I am so moved and grateful for the extra effort the Green Acres team invests in the ongoing concerns of my furbaby.
Last month, the Green Acres team provided emergency medical services for our boy, including the identification and removal of a tumor as well as extended post-surgical hospitalization that was required to stabilize him so that he could come home. They were amazing in how they cared for our kid and the compassion they showed to us.
As our family now explores oncological options for the post-surgical treatment of our kid's cancer, the team at Green Acres has been extraordinary (and I can't stress this enough) in their follow-up and in addressing any questions/concerns post-discharge.
We are exploring the option of dna-sequencing of the biopsy through FidoCure in an attempt to find optimal targeted clinical therapies for the GIST cancer. FidoCure is an FDA approved option, but relatively new for most veterinarians because of the small number of parents that enter oncology for their fur-kids.
Late yesterday, I asked Green Acres about obtaining tissue from the tumor sample that they had previously sent to IDEXX for testing (including immunohistochemstry). I wanted to know if IDEXX keeps the sample and whether or not that sample could be used by FidoCure to be tested. They checked and called me back and said that IDEXX maintains the sample for 3 years, but would need to check to see if the sample could be used for FidoCure. Early this morning, Green Acres called me back to tell me that they set up a zoom call for this morning with FidoCure to better understand the diagnostics and tissue sample requirements.
Green Acres is AWESOME. I'm crying as I write this - they have been and continue to be extraordinary in every single way! From the the kind and professional front desk taking my calls, to the patient and kind assistants/techs returning my calls, to the compassionate doctors addressing my concerns - this team is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time)!!!
Thank you to every single member of the Green Acres team!
It bears me repeating the following (from my other review):
Pet ownership has increased significantly during the pandemic. Meanwhile, fewer people relinquished their pets during that time, so all of the existing and new needed ongoing care. As we worked from home and spent more time with our pets, we've had more opportunities to notice bumps, limps and other ailments that could typically go untreated.
Vets were already struggling to meet the pre-pandemic demand, with veterinary schools unable to churn out enough doctors and techs to fill the void.
Emergency veterinary care can be a difficult job under normal circumstances, it's nearly untenable during these times.
I've worked in a lot of fields, held different types of jobs, in various organizations with different teams. I've worked in customer service.
I've interacted with customers that are figuratively drowning - where their survival instinct is running full speed, and they don't even realize they are drowning you as their survival instinct causes them to try to use you as a floatation device while you are trying to help them. And those jobs I had were not in a medical field.
My experience in customer service leads me to know that some clientele "are from hell," and some "have been through hell":
- Those clients that "are from hell" will never be satisfied and always rude.
- Those who "have been through hell" are normally kind, polite, generous individuals, who, through a series of unfortunate incidents, are now at the end of their rope and short tempered - you've caught them at the end of many horrible and frustrating experiences.
A lot of people (including members of the Green Acres' own team) "have gone through hell" these last 20 months. And we who have gone through hell now have a sick "child", and we land at their door.
In my observations over the last four weeks, the Green Acres team presents the same kindness, compassion and professionalism of those that "are from hell" and those that "have been through hell."
Because, well, sometimes you can't tell which is which, and you need to give the benefit of the doubt, and treat everyone with compassion and kindness even when they show you little or none. Because, that is the job when you are in a life-critical field. To make a career in emergency care, it's not a job, it's a lifestyle. The Green Acres team is "all-in".
The veterinary staff at Green Acres are one of the few in the area that provide 24x7x365 emergency services. Right now, the demand for their services and on their limited resources is catastrophically high.
I know you are scared, frightened, feeling helpless when you come to their door. They are all doing the best they can. Please try to be kind to them. Read Less
