We were traveling from out of town when we needed to take our dog, Sadie, to the vet for a foreign body in her eye. Wanting to avoid an emergency vet visit, we called several clinics in the area to see if we could make an appointment. Storybook Farm Veterinary Clinic was able to get us in quickly. Everyone was very kind and helpful. They were able to refer us to an ophthalmologist and secure a same day appointment for us. We have been bring our dog to Storybook Farm since we moved out to Victor, 6 years ago.  We brought her for vet care as well as boarding.  When we boarded her, I had the peace of mind due to her age, that if she had any medical issues while we were away, they would take care of her.   One time, during their care, Molly, had stomach issues and they called us on vacation, told us they would check on her every hour to make sure she was OK.   The Vet, Dr. Smith, called everyday sometimes twice a day to let us know how she was doing.  Dr. Smith asked us if they could give her sensitive stomach dog food to see if that would help and we agreed.  I expected an extra charge for them checking on her every hour when we returned, but they only charged us for the dog food, not the hourly checking by the Vet.  Very nice. Our beloved, 12 year old dog, Molly,  was suddenly taken ill in Feb. this year and when we brought her in ASAP.   Dr. Lodge took her time with us, examined Molly, and ultimately as compassionate as she could told us we needed to let her go.  She offered for us to call other family to come and say their good-byes if we wanted or offered for us to take her home to say our good-byes too.  After discussions with her, we decided it was best for Molly, due to her condition, to just let her go then.  All the staff involved were so very compassionate and understanding at how upsetting this was for us.  Dr. Lodge allowed us to stay as long as we wanted.  Dr. Lodge  sent us a sympathy card the next day and a few weeks later we received a letter from Cornell University Vet Medicine stating Storybook  made a donation in Molly's memory and Cornell also offered free counseling if needed.  This was our first time meeting Dr. Lodge.  Dr. Smith was our usual Vet we saw but she was not working the day we had to bring Molly in.  I was very pleased with Dr. Lodge as she treated us and Molly like Molly had been her patient for years, as friends!   It really is an awful thing having to put a pet down, but Dr. Lodge and her Staff helped make it a little easier.  Their office/policies may not be perfect (as others had stated in reviews) but to us the were perfect when it counted the most!   THANK YOU! I have boarded my dog at Storybook Farm a number of times due to their reasonable rates and location near the thruway. Today they lost my business due to their dishonest billing practices. Nowhere on their website is their 'policy' about rates listed, nor do they explain it when you call. I called yesterday and was quoted $23 dollars for one night--which was all I needed. I dropped my dog off at about 2pm yesterday afternoon and picked him up at 12:55pm this afternoon. He was there for about 23 hours. I was charged $34.50 plus tax for "a day and a half." I asked them to explain and they pointed to a sign high above the desk on the back wall that (not very clearly) states their policy that a day is only from 12:30 pm to 12:30 pm--it doesn't matter how long your dog is there, if you pick him up after 12:30pm, it's another "half day" charge. I was there 25 minutes after 12:30. They charged me an additional 12 dollars for those 25 minutes, and though I pushed back, they threw up their hands and said "that's our policy, sir. What if we did that for everybody?" (Did what? Treated people on an individual basis with modicum of fairness?) I am a huge supporter of local businesses, and it pains me to have to write a negative review, and if that's the policy they want to go by, fine. But they need to make it clear that their rates are not actually "$23 a day". It felt sneaky, and dishonest and I'm frankly shocked that the staff was so unsympathetic and rigid. My other experiences have been just okay, but I would add that every time I picked up my dog he peed for well over a minute as soon as he got outside the door--as if it had been quite some time since he'd been out. That, combined with this experience, makes me question exactly what kind of service it is that I'm paying for... twice. Read Less

Storybook has been a good spot to take all four dogs in our extended family.  They have convenient late hours on Tuesday & Thursday (open till 7pm I think) and are open half a day on Saturday for those of us who are busy 9-5 during the week.  They will also price-match online pricing for standard puppy medicines (i.e. heartworm, etc.) which we really appreciate.  Their office staff will give you pretty accurate quotes on cost of treatments & procedures before you commit to doing any interventions on your little furball. We also sought our vet's advice before adopting two of our dogs to discuss breeds, behavior, challenges, any health issues, etc.  He was helpful, reassuring, and has been pretty spot-on in terms of both the joys and difficulties we've faced with our dogs.  If you ask for more information before doing an intervention (whether it's just drawing blood or doing other tests or surgeries) the vets and their technicians will also explain their thoughts and decision-making and give you opportunities to ask questions in a really thorough way.  I've always felt that the docs at Storybook are compassionate and take their time when examining our dogs and meeting with me.One thing I wish they did better was prepare my family for the death of one of our dogs (he was 14, so he was certainly quite old and it wasn't sudden or anything).  I think families need to be better prepared by their vets for the normal course of events. The vets at Storybook should clearly address health status, prognosis and have "goals for care" conversations about your pet's health particularly as they near the end of their natural lives.  It would help the family better prepare for the loss of a dearly loved member of the family.  This is an area where Storybook's vets could improve, just like many clinicians. We trusted this vet for years with our dogs and it is one of my biggest regrets. They were my family's vet growing up and I had always known them to be reputable, however when our dog was six he developed bladder stones that the vet repeatedly missed (despite multiple rounds of xrays at our request based on our research, not their guidance) that resulted in a complete obstruction and nearly cost us our dog's life. After having an operation to remove the stones we left Storybook for two years and ultimately, because we had been with them for so long and felt that accidents can happen, decided to return because they had known our pets for so long. This fall our dog became ill again and we took him to Storybook over and over to try to help him. We were told repeatedly that it was simply aging and we questioned them heavily on if it could be another stone issue. We were told over and over that it wouldn't be possible, however after some blood tests eventually came back with elevated kidney levels we insisted on a series of xrays. Note that this was at our insistence, not the advisement of the vet. Just as we'd suspected our dog was full of stones, he had become completely obstructed. We took our poor family member to a new vet who immediately confirmed that the kidney damage that was done to our dog was due to our dog essentially poisoning himself over time due to an inability to get the toxins out of his system because of the stones that Storybook missed. To miss them once would be one thing, however to miss them twice knowing the animal's history (and while being questioned over and over by the pet's parents on if you can look for them specifically) is unacceptable. Our dog died as a result of this mistake. We did everything we could for him in his final days and at one point needed a copy of a previous blood test for our new vet. When we requested this from Storybook we were told that they were too busy to get to it, that they'd have to get back to us. They had so little regard for us, and for our beloved dog, that they never got back to us with it. Never so much as an apology for the miss. I regret ever having taken our dog to this vet more than I could possibly express. Read Less

Note that this was at our insistence, not the advisement of the vet. Just as we'd suspected our dog was full of stones, he had become completely obstructed.
