Chrissy Wade Roach-
I can’t believe I have to share this, but to spare another family, I am.
Do not put your pet’s care in the hands of Walworth Animal Hospital.
In an effort to understand how a young, healthy dog could die, John Roach started asking questions. How could a digestive blockage be missed on the x-ray that Scout had on Monday night?
On Monday night, I was told by the attending vet that she could see no blockage. Scout’s digestive lining looked sensitive and like she ate something she shouldn’t have, but it had passed through. If she didn’t get better, we were to return. It could also be a virus. For now, just give her a bland diet, which was also listed on the discharge paperwork. No urgency. Nothing critical. Go home.
She started to improve on Tuesday but then regressed on Tuesday night after hours. Because we thought we were dealing with a virus, we scheduled an appointment for Wednesday after work, but when I got home to take her, she was barely breathing and couldn’t move, except to wag her tail at my desperate greeting. My neighbor helped me get her in the car, and I tried to will her to stay with me on the drive. I was not successful.
We asked how this escalated so quickly. We thought it was a virus. We didn’t know how bad off she was. While we said our tearful good-byes, the attending doctor from Monday said, “Well, we told you there was a blockage.” No. No, you didn’t. But we were too upset to push it then, and we left to break the news to two heart-broken boys.
With the emotional whirlwind settling, John asked for more details. After some back and forth, the latest accusation is that the attending vet told me on Monday that there was a blockage and advised me to take her to the emergency vet immediately, but I wouldn’t because of the cost.
They are just making things up. I’m shocked, disheartened, and angry. How can they do this? How is this even real? Apparently, the notes on the file now indicate that this was told to me. 😳
I wanted to move forward. I wasn’t looking for a fight. We just wanted to understand what happened so that we don’t live this again. If we’d gone to the emergency vet on Monday, we may not have had a different outcome. We could still be here. But I wouldn’t be managing the grief of finding my girl nearly dead, while also being accused of being a negligent dog mom.
They’re lying. They’re covering up for a mistake they made. And I just can’t believe it.
