This Animal Hospital seems to make the amount that they charge you the most important thing about your experience with them. And that amount is approximately 30 to 40% higher than any other animal hospital I have been to in the 40 years I have been owning pets. When I ask them direct questions about why they treat animals in the back out of sight instead of right in front of you like other animal hospitals do it, I was told while you could ask for them to do that but it's not our regular practice to treat pets in front of their owners. They lied to me twice by telling me paperwork that I was already given told us to bring out at back in two weeks if there was any issue. I spoke to the Doctor Who treated my cat with antibiotics two weeks after he did it and she still had the infections. At that point he told me to come back in and he would treat them again them being her ears. They then that treated her with the same antibiotic that didn't work the first time and told us how much it would be after the treatment was done not before. Why would we be charged if something didn't work the first time? And especially if it is the same treatment that didn't work the first time? This Hospital for your pets is more interested in your wallet and what's in it that they could get out of it then the treatment of your pets. I recommend going anywhere else but here. This place is excellent! I have never been able to find an office I trusted after moving from Upstate. I have always driven my dogs up there from Long Island just to ensure the safety of my dogs and to get the best care possible. When in a pinch we did some research and found this office and gave I.T a try. I am so happy we did. We have a mixed breed, a rescue that has some aggression issues. They are attentive and sensitive to our situation. Dr Rapp in particular is by far the BEST for these types of dogs. She is patient, caring and hands on (far from nervous). I feel i can actually say she specializes in bully breeds and dogs with aggression or anxiety issues. If you have a dog who suffers from anything like this i highly recommend you specifically ask for her, she loves to take them on and make them as comfortable as possible. I purchased a pet at a local pet store. The Pet store recommended that I have my pet examined at this facility because I will receive certain services without charge. I was told that this facility will examine my newly purchased dog for free. I was also told that a certain required injection will be given in two sessions. The first injection will be free and the booster will be charged to owner. I was willing to accept that charge for the booster and was expecting that if there were any other actions needed beyond the injection, I will be advised and informed of any additional charges in advance. Since the exam revealed a parasite in the pet's stool, which I am told is quite common, I was instructed to administer an antibiotic to my pet for 14 days (no charge) and return to the Vet with another stool sample for clearance. Upon completion of the follow-up visit, I was handed an invoice. I was not told previously that the follow-up visit to the Vet will generate an "office visit charge" of 69.36 and a "screening charge" of 52.65, the total being 122.01. I registered my concern about the additional charges which I had paid and was told to ask the Pet Store to reimburse if that is my concern. I was told that the owner of the hospital will not refund my payment for the additional services they provided even though I claimed that I did not anticipate these charges for the services nor did I give my approval. I was also told by the pet store that they will not reimburse me for these Vet charges because a parasite in a newly purchased pet is common and not considered an illness that is covered under their purchase contract. In summary, I believe that under any circumstance other than maybe an emergency, a treatment facility for pets must give the pet owner an opportunity to know the cost of treatment options before providing same to the pet. ONLY WORTH GOING HERE IF YOU HAVE PET INSURANCE!!!This place is a rip off. We brought our cat here to fix her paw and they took an arm and a leg from us. They gave us a max estimate of $550. We get a call later in the day that our cat woke up from anesthesia and needed to be put under again to put a splint on.Never in the phone conversation did they say we would have to pay extra for that... we had to leave our cat with them for hours, so we have no proof that she actually needed more anesthesia. We were forced to believe them because well, that's the position they are in. So when we went to pick up our beloved cat, we were told the bill came to $850+! How did that happen? We were not satisfied with the treatment this vet offered, so we decided to get a second opinion today from another local vet, and they told us that they were disgusted that this place would charge so much. This new vet told us that ANESTHESIA SHOULD BE ABOUT $90 MAX! They charged us a solid $200 TWICE!!!So we were also thinking that we were told we were going to be given a cone for our cat, but we never received it. We called today to see if we can get it and they want to charge us another $8.88!!!!And not to mention, they want us to follow up another 3-4 times in the next few weeks, WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE, but they said they will charge us for every follow up visit because they want to do excessive amounts of x-rays and such.So about $1,000 and a giant migraine later, I decided to leave a review that explained my experience to the fullest extent, so other people who are thinking about bringing their pets to this vet DO NOT! This hospital is overpriced for the service. The owner is more interested in making a buck then in quality animal care. On my last visit, I had to wait over an hour for my scheduled appointment in an overcrowded waiting room. There was no place for the dogs to comfortably pass each other. The floors were dirty and my pet's vaccinations were 50% higher than the other vet I had tiried. The last straw was the owner's insistence on requiring my puppy get a heart worm exam before prescribing heart worm medication when I requested it prior to the mandated exam cut off age. The only good thing about this place is Dr. Fischman. It doesn't make up for the complete lack of professionalism and courtesy of the office staff. Today really took the cake. We had to bring in our cat for her annual examination and shots. She's a bad patient so they recommended that we give her a sedative beforehand. We did that and arrived 10 minutes early for the appointment. It got to be almost 30 minutes after the scheduled time and we're still in the waiting room. By now, the sedative has worn off and my cat is getting very restless in her carrier. We asked the front desk staff what was going on and they told us the vet had an emergency. They couldn't tell us that when we got there? After making a stink, we finally got to see a different vet but by then, my cat was in no mood to cooperate and the sedative had worn off. They had the nerve to tell us that it's like a doctor's office and that emergencies happen. Well, try telling that to a frightened cat. The upshot is that we drugged the cat for no good reason and she never got the annual exam she should have had although they charged us for it. All she got was a rabies shot. By the way, they had the TV in the waiting room on very loudly. Several people asked them to turn it down, but they refused. A woman at the desk said that she wanted to see how the show ended. Lady, you're not there to watch TV; you're there to do your job. It's amazing that the staff had time to talk among themselves about the show but couldn't be bothered to tell us that they were going to be late. This isn't the first time the office staff has screwed up like this with our pets (one time I sat there with my dog waiting 30 minutes for the bill; they never once asked me why I was there and I'd still be waiting if I hadn't said something) but it will be the last. They'll be going elsewhere from now on. Read Less

I have been taking my pets to Wantagh Animal Hospital for over 25 years! They have always been patient and knowledgeable. The staff is extremely caring and pleasant. I have seen many times the only problem is the customer that comes in there that they have to deal with that are rude and have an attitude. Totally understand when a pet comes in that is very sick or worse, I have been in that situation before myself, but there is no reason to treat someone with disrespect. Especially when they are there to help and care for your pet!! The best staff and Dr's you want to take care of your pet when they are sick and need love and support to get well. And their prices are very reasonable as well!! Thank you Wantagh for everything you do and have done for my pets after all these years!!! Read Less

I've been going for years to Wantagh because of Dr. Fischman and her expertise in cats. She's very thorough and extremely knowledgeable. Since I do not live anywhere near Wantagh I make a special trip every time one of the cats become ill. The staff, especially Jessica is extremely pleasant. They were kind enough to allow me to bring my cat there daily for a pill that I couldn't get her to take. Since the place was recently sold, I have found that their prices have gone up considerably and just found out that Dr. Fischman is no longer there!!! Very upset. Read Less

There is no substitute for Wantagh Animal Hospital. We have used them for over 23 years. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. We recently had to put down our beloved Licorice. They were so supportive and caring in such a genuine fashion. Dr. Fischman and her assistant and the entire staff helped us through our most difficult time. When we are ready to adopt again, Wantagh Animal Hospital will be there for us and we are thankful for that! RIP Licorice!

This place is all about making money. If you care about your pet, don't go here. PRICES ARE NOT FAIR! Read Less

Read Less

I think the staff at Wantagh Animal Hospital are excellent! From the front desk, to the assistants in the back, everyone is caring and only want the best for our pets. There have been some big changes in the past year or so, but those seem to be for the best. There are a lot of new faces (receptionists as well as doctors), but they are all very friendly and always willing to help. I would, and do recommend this vet to all of my friends and family!Read Less

I've been bringing my pets here for years and really love the folks that work there. Their walk-in appointments are great for folks like me that need flexibility because of crazy schedules from juggling house, home, kids, and pets! The office is incredibly busy, so be forewarned - but the doctors are really competent, so I wouldn't bring my pets anywhere else! Plus, there's nothing quite like being remembered me as a person (and the names of my pets) and not just a number (or worse, a credit card!) Read Less

My cat got sick. Moving from west Babylon to Seaford I did not know any vets looked at pet insurance on the web got quotes for cat urinary infection it was 3000$.I suspected my cat might have this problem. My girlfriends parent used this vet 20 years ago so I called up got an appointment. Took him to the Wantagh animal hospital. Met a very compassionate staff they had to keep him 5 days. They sent me home with a special diet for him and some medicine. After that he seems to be ok. I like this hospital not only did they cure him but for about 650$ with medicine and special food. I highly recommend this place. Read Less
