I swear by Dr. McKinney for any exotic needs! In the spring of this year I brought my critically ill, emaciated, and dehydrated iguana, Diablo, in. 7 months later of following his care plan for her, she is getting fat, is now healthy, and thriving! A couple of weeks ago I brought my baby Savannah Monitor, Athena, in. I aquired her sick and couldn't get her to recover at home. After a lengthy checkup and some meds, Athena has now put on weight and is eating on her own again. He not only cares for the animals, he takes time to get to know them on his level. His knowledge and openness in communicating up-to-date care info and in sharing his knowledge makes him the best vet I have ever been to. Yesterday my daughter and I brought our leopard gecko to see Dr. McKinney, where we ultimately made the difficult decision to have her humanely euthanized. The entire East River Veterinary clinic staff was kind, compassionate and supportive during our visit. Dr. McKinney did a very thorough examination where he answered questions and explained what was going on with our gecko. I first went to East River with a parakeet that flew into our yard and I was able to rescue. Dr. McKinney was extremely patient with both Keet and I, never having a bird before, he spent quite a bit of time educating me, making me feel much more comfortable with my new found friend. After a little consideration, I decided to take one of my 3 cats there as well for a 3rd opinion. My cat Kayla has had a "weepy" eye for a very long time. After going to 2 different vets, and trying a multitude of different options, Dr. Licata tried an entirely different course of action, and it worked. But what first struck me was her level of compassion and caring. She understood that Kayla was important to us, and was a member of the family. When she opted for a different approach other then what had been tried for many years, I was extremely confident in her ability. Needless to say, Kayla is doing great. What I also loved about East River is their ability to communicate via email. That to me is a wonderful tool, not having to worry about playing phone tag, even though I did receive 2 phone calls with full reports as well. The office staff has been nothing short of wonderful. No matter when I go in, or who I have with me, from parakeets to cats, their level of caring and compassion is top notch. I have recommended them to all my friends. I am very very happy with Dr. Licata, Dr.McKinney and all of the office staff. Being in customer service myself, it is very important to me when I am the customer, how I am treated. My cockatiel zazoo seemed to have breathing difficulty and seemed off. This went on for days and Dr. McKinney was wonderful in how he treated not only zazoo but me as well in explaining everything. My chameleon Izzy got something in her eye and would not eat. This went on for days until I realized what was happening. East River Veterinary Hospital is the best in the area! Every staff member that we have encountered have been AWESOME. They are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Dr. Licata is like no other. She treats our dog as if he were her own. She takes the time to listen and answers all of our questions. She is compassionate, honest, and caring. We cannot say enough about her!! My terripin George, has been sick and so we had a vet trip today and the only turtle vet we could find was East River. I LOVE this vet clinic. I wish they were closer to me in holley, I would bring our dogs here too. Needless to say George got a vitamin A shot and 7 more antibiotic shots I will have to administer but he does seem already more healthy. Like any pet a vet visit can be expensive. This was not bad at all Phew! Now George is home with his lady Martha... If only she had a nurse outfit! Read Less

I have been taking my bulldog to East River for the last few years. When he was a puppy I took him to Suburban and mainly saw Dr. Licata. She always took the extra time listening to my concerns and I could tell Balboa trusted her and he doesn't trust many! When she moved to East River, we followed. Its hard to find a vet that not only treats the animals but actually cares for them like they are hers. Balboa has had many challenges in his short life but Dr. Licata and her AMAZING staff have been there every step of the way. I own a parrot that was having respiratory problems. I called my regular vet and they told me he couldn't be seen for a week. That was unacceptable and there was no way I could wait that long so I tried East River Veterinary Hospital. They were very accommodating and fit me in the same day. We saw Dr. McKinney who has the best bedside manner of any vet I've ever been to. He was compassionate, thorough and very detailed in the examination. Caring, thorough exams by the doctors who take their time to explain concerns and will discuss all available treatments. They don't just offer you the most expensive service when you could start with something a little more cost effective but still in best interest of your pet. I'm not really sure how to rate this vet, despite having gone three times for my cat. The staff was friendly and the doctors were kind and seemed very knowledgable and caring. It was also very clean while still being homey.However, we ran many expensive tests on my cat and still didn't find the cause of his sickness. Through trial and error with dieting he is doing better now, but I'm not sure he needed the xray, blood tests, and fecal sample. I spent several hundred dollars and feel like I didn't get anything. I guess it's good to know nothing is seriously wrong, and tests are the only way to do that. I would recommend, but just be cautious about how many tests you run and how much they cost. Read Less

Dr. Licata and Dr. Gebbie cannot be beat for pocket-pet care! Both have the magic touch with small animals, like our dwarf hamster. We've been cared for by both, and I'm amazed at how well they handle, treat, and love their job. The reception staff is fantastic. It's clean. I'm very impressed!
