This may get a bit long, but I have a story to tell. We have been taking our cat's to Southtowns Animal hospital for over 9 years. She had always been healthy until last Sunday when she suddenly started crying out in pain and would cower away from her food. Monday(8/31/15) afternoon I called Southtowns and took her in to be checked under the care of Dr. Bradac. After a plethora of tests (blood work, x-rays and a urine analysis) it was speculated that my cat had a urinary tract infection. While I was skeptical as to why this has caused her to scream and cower away from her food, I am not a qualified veterinarian so off we went back home with antibiotics and an over $500 bill! Upon returning home my cat refused to eat, drink, continued to cry, was no longer eliminating of any kind and not using one of her back legs. On Wednesday(9/2/15), I called the office again and my husband took the cat back in. While there it was discussed that due to a heart murmur she may have a blood clot that traveled to her leg which is why she wasnt using the leg. My husband was given many options as to how to treat the blood clot, including euthanasia. Due to our young children, we decided to give her a fighting chance. She stayed at the hospital for IV fluids in hopes of breaking up the clot. Later in the day Dr. Bradac called my husband before she went home and retracted her diagnosis and decided that without a doubt the cat was constipated!! I almost euthanized my cat because she was constipated?? Again, we took the cat home with more meds ($180 pain med this time), prescription soft food and another $400 bill. On Friday the vet did call to check on the cat and suggested an enema which we just couldn't justify. Today, (Saturday 9/5/15) the cat continued to not eat, only laid under the bed, was still not using her back leg, and hadnt gone to the bathroom since being at the vet on Wed. I called the vet to see if there was another doctor available for another opinion because I just couldnt shake that the cat wasnt simply constipated. I was strongly encouraged to go to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center because Southtown's closed at 1:00 and they were just going to refer us to OP anyway. Again, we packed up an anxious, limp cat and off my husband went with hopes that a second opinion would give us answers. With tears in my eyes, I looked at my girls and thought what do I tell them if my husband doesnt call with good news. At Orchard Park Vet the staff was amazingly attentive, used her lab work from Southtowns and determined there was absolute no way this cat was constipated! Her bowels were completely empty!! It was determined that she somehow had injured her leg and was resting to heal herself. Thankfully we brought all her prescriptions with us to show the vet if needed. We found out then that she no longer needed the antibiotic because there was no urinary tract infection and the pain meds were prescribed almost four times the necessary dosage!!! While feeling relieved that the cat is receiving the proper care, my husband came home with not only the appropriate knowledge of medicating the cat, but also feelings of anger and resentment at Dr. Bradac who cared for our family pet inappropriately. Since returning home a few hours ago and not being over medicated our cat has come out from under the bed and is interested in eating her non-prescription food. Needless to say we will not be returning to Southtowns Animal Hospital. Im so happy our cat seems to be on the mend I cant help but thinking our $1,100 bill could have been cut it half with a proper diagnosis from a better suited veterinarian. The staff at Southtowns are very nice and polite, but their vet's leave something to be desired. Read Less
