Dr. Louise Murray and Marcy Drought are the “dream team“ at ASC. As the Internal Medicine team they are not only amazing at trouble shooting tough to figure out cases, but they are also both extremely caring. They have both gone out of their way to bring in special foods and supplements not typically supplied by a hospital. And they always keep looking for answers, even when it seems like everything has been tried. They think outside of the box, which is not only refreshing but also lifesaving. And they are both respectful of their clients’ questions, concerns, and suggestions. After having had many cats in their care, I can’t say enough positive things about both of them. They are truly caring lifesavers. Read Less

My 21 month old cat died after taking him to this place. I wish I didn't bring my cat here. He went through a large amount of testing. Going through an expensive checklist of procedures they couldn't find the problem, and with the anesthesia they gave him they were unintentionally killing him since his liver wasn't working properly. Unfortunately this place feels like a research facility, paid for by you and me, at the expense of your pet. Misdiagnosed: They thought our cat had an ear infection... then they said it was liver disease from portosystemic shunt... then out of nowhere and after $8,000 they said it was Lymphoma, which still didn't seem right because our cat wasn't experiencing most of the symptoms of Lymphoma. Aggressive Treatment: They put our cat through intense testing. My cat was extremely weak from the extensive treatment that there was no way he had the strength to survive even if he could have. Unintentional Malpractice: After his first round of tests at this facility he was given antibiotics to treat an ear infection. His condition worsened, the medicine didn't help at all, and our cat experienced seizures 3 days after. The doctor himself said that the anesthesia is most likely what caused the seizures since his liver wasn't filtering properly. Expensive: We spent about $8,000 to help our young, 21 month old, cat. We took him home and he died that night. We regret taking him here and wish we looked at the reviews of this place before we did. We miss our sweet little cat. Don't make the same mistake we made. I can't say enough positive things about this place. Our dog suddenly started having issues with his hind legs and after a week of crate rest began to worsen. We took him to the neurology department here on our regular veterinarian's recommendation and he needed spinal surgery. I was completely blown away by our experience. From the first phone call I made all the way to his discharge this evening, every single person I encountered was kind, patient, compassionate, and so adept at their jobs. Everything was explained to me clearly and in such a detailed fashion by Dr Joseph and all of the other surgeons and nurses, right down to the nitty-gritty of recovery and each of the line items on our quote and, later, our bill. They updated us on every development while he was staying there and called us at least two times a day - every day - to update us on his progress. The phone calls were never rushed. I was also very pleased with their generous visiting hours (11am-11pm). No, it was not cheap - but with good reason. The state of the art equipment and expertise you're getting is well worth the cost. Though his particular surgery was involved and thus quite costly, at no point did I feel that they were taking advantage of us. They even refunded us over 10% of our cost after his discharge because they didn't need to do many of the things they had originally quoted us for. Very honest. I had read all of these Google reviews before I brought my dog in and I would like to caution others doing research to take many of the negative ones with a grain of salt. Long waits for more minor issues are typical for emergency clinics (think of our human emergency rooms!) and of course it is extraordinarily upsetting when a procedure or visit doesn't go the way you had hoped or worse but unfortunately bad things do happen, even when a pet is being cared for in the best way. We were fortunate in that ours went very well, but even if it didn't I felt that he was in excellent hands the whole time. I would wholeheartedly recommend this clinic. Read Less

I have brought my dog twice, last year and a few days ago. I've spent thousands of dollars in those two visits for minor things that seemed serious and were not able to give me a clear diagnosis. They are easy to bring you stimates and show no compassion about the ordeal you are going through. With certain breeds, they are reluctant to handle your dog. This is an animal hospital and the vets should be able to handle any type of dog. From the service desk to the vets, nobody has personality. They brush you off quick because they are eager to take the dollars from the next person walking through that door. Since their charges are high, they should polish themselves on how to treat people. Money talks but they haven't learn this. Give people' dogs what they deserve and mostly after the woopping bill is handed to them. I am not coming to this place anymore. Read Less

I have never experienced an organization where every person is kind, bright, well trained and genuinely seems to love their job as at Animal Specialty Center. My cockapoo had sudden difficulty walking and jumping. She was diagnosed with a herniated disc. Without surgery she could end up paralyzed. The neurologist and neurosurgeon both spent a lot of time answering my questions and helping me decide whether to do the surgery - but no pressure at all. We opted to do the surgery and she was hospitalized there for 3 nights.10 days later she is doing great! Anytime I had a question I could call and never felt like a bother. The care was not inexpensive and hopefully my pet insurance will pay some. But I feel very lucky to have gone there and would not hesitate to recommend them.. Read Less

On Sunday, May 1 2016, my shorthaired Tabby cat, Hyper was completely misdiagnosed at Animal Specialty Center. My husband brought the cat in about 7am that morning. Our cat was treated for blockage at ASC after not being able to urinate for 2 days. He was then sent home with two meds after a full day on a catheter. My husband and I were relieved at first when the cat returned home from ASC. However, we later realized there was NO change. Our cat was still unable to urinate. The cat also refused to eat food or drink water after a Dr. Hembold administered an "unblocking" procedure to flush out bloody urine. We decided to see Bronx Vet in our area on Tuesday, May 3rd after noticing our cats condition getting worse. After X-rays taken upon our entry at the Bronx Vet facility, it was quickly determined that unblocking our cat would not help. The x-rays showed stones lodged in my cats urethra and other parts of his body, which were causing blockage. The doctor said these stones could only be removed with special surgery. The blood tests also taken with Bronx Vets showed very clearly my cat was suffering from all types of blood & kidney abnormalities, which were diagnosed as terminal. After realizing how bad this situation was, we were forced to make the hard decision of euthenization. My husband I were devastated with the loss of our beloved cat. In addition, we were in total disbelief that we had received such a huge MISDIAGNOSIS from ASC. ITS NOW OBVIOUS, THAT OUR CAT WAS NEVER THOROUGHLY EXAMINED AT ANIMAL SPECIALTY CENTER. WITHOUT PROPER EXAMINATION OR KNOWLEDGE OF MY CATS CONDITION, ASC PROCEEDED TO TREAT MY CAT WITH A PROCEDURE THAT WAS TOTALLY POINTLESS AND INEFFECTIVE FOR HIS CONDITION ON MAY 1st. After paying over $142 for in initial fees, shouldnt the vets first course of action be a thorough EXAM? THIS OBVIOUSLY DID NOT HAPPEN IN OUR CASE AND WE ARE NOW DEMANDING A FULL REFUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $650 FOR THIS TERRIBLE MISDIAGNOSIS AND MALPRACTICE! Read Less

After having a great relationship with this animal hospital it was ruined by a careless and thoughtless interaction with one of the veterinarians. My cat was suspected of having cancer I made an appointment with an oncology veterinarian. I showed up on for the appointment they had me down as a surgical appointment not a consultation. Aren't they supposed to do a consultation before a surgical procedure. I never received a phone call the night before to keep my cat NPO for the surgical procedure they had my cat marked down for. Than they said "Oh but we called you but someone else picked up and said you have the wrong number." Very strange considering everyone else is able to reach me at the exact same number. It didn't end there they take me and my cat to the comfort room to wait. After me and my cat sat in the room for a half an hour with no one coming into the room I called the front desk and told them I have been waiting a long time. I was told that someone would be right in there shortly. After waiting another fifteen minutes no one came into the room. We waited 45 minutes in a room, no one even showed their face. I decided to leave. Than to vet calls me never once did she apologize and she got an attitude with me. She was cold and uncaring. Read Less

My mom took her dog here and was amazed with the service and results. She asked to post this review for her. This is what she said: My dog, Daisy, recently underwent an MRI and emergency spinal surgery at the Animal Specialty Center/ASC. Dr. Joseph is a very dedicated and knowledgeable neurologist. In fact, my contact with the entire ASC support staff was a positive experience. During Daisy's three-day stay and for the weeks following her release, I phoned the ASC several times with questions and concerns; and my inquiries were very promptly handled in a professional manner. During these exchanges, I was repeatedly told to phone in with any additional questions or concerns. The services provided were amazing; and as a result, Daisy's recovery has been awesome. Daisy was carried into their offices because she was unable to stand/walk, and three days later, she walked out of the ASC on her own! Read Less

If I could give this place a 0 I would. My dog ingested something possibly poisonous and was throwing up profusely and had terrible diarrhea. We took him to this facility with hopes of getting seen and getting him treated immediately since he was very dehydrated. We waited 5 hours!!!! 5 hours!!!! No IV. No blood work during the wait. There were only 2 people in front of us. We were hydrating him ourselves using a syringe from his old medicine and a bottle of water. When he was finally seen the doctor gave us a grocery list of things he need to do. Xrays, Sonogram, etc. All without having any blood work done first. I was so frustrated at that point I wanted a second opinion. We paid out dues and left to another animal hospital in Manhattan. As soon as we walked in we were seen immediately and my dog had blood drawn to see how dehydrated he was. They put him on an IV and some anti nausea medication. No speak of Xrays or another nonsense. This is how taking your very sick pet to the vet should be. I never write reviews, but I am so upset and disappointed with my visit at ASC that I want other people to see my experience. These people are looking for an excuse to take your money not care for your pet. Read Less

Regardless of the outcome, they are there for you and they are extremely effective at communicating as well as showing how much they care for your pet's well-being. Thank you!!! Read Less

I like this place very much. I brought my cat in and it turns out she was having renal failure. The staff was very friendly and upfront about all the costs and they didn’t push us to spend more than we wanted. Unfortunately, she was suffering and we felt it was best to put her down. The staff was very nice throughout the whole process and waited for the rest of my family to arrive to say good bye. If I had another emergency I’d definitely bring my pet here. Read Less

My friends bearded dragon was dying and her private vet wasn't available for hours so we went to the emergency center. They let us know ahead of time that they don't treat lizards but would do their best. When we got there they acknowledged us immediately and were attentive. They did everything they could to make her lizard comfortable, gave her a little towel to keep warm. Very compassionate care, they took our emergency seriously.

Read Less

Brought my cat cause he was bleeding from his private area. Found out, it was a UTI and and the bill to save him was close to $4,000. It wasn't cancer or something that there's no cure for, and i had to euthanize him. Spoke to my cats vet and he said it didn't have to be so much.

Read Less
