I have never left a Vet feeling so deceived in Oct 2018I started to go to this Vet 2 years ago when my friend told me about this place. I instantly liked the staff, the Vet and everything about it. So did my roommate. As time went off I saw my friend struggle paying her debt to the vet. Her dog ( a rescue I gave her ) was very sick but so many tests, bloodwork and lotions and creams and pills, left us more confused and in debt but when the money ran out and my friend switched Vets ( they will hold your paid records hostage ) the dog was so ill, she died a month ago. We found out my friend paid almost double on meds versus her new Vet. I never wave there without at least a $200+ bill. I just had him there 2 weeks ago and was conned. Now they want the same blood test and won't give me his meds. He is very ill. I got 4 different voicemails today ( all kept for evidence ) each trying to get me to pay different money for different things. If you want your pet to live, don't go there Read Less

I was recommended to HAH from friends at Carolina Veterinary Specialists and needless to say, extremely pleased!! My last 6 years of going to the vet (not HAH) for my dog have been nightmare'ish, and traumatic, experiences for both my canine friend and myself—due in part to my dog being deathly afraid of the vet. Working with HAH, however, has been a pleasure from day one. The doctor spoke with me on the phone for 20 min about the mass on my dog, next steps for getting the dog in for a visit/review, and even scheduled time for me to come in for a "pre-visit" to go over a game plan for handling my dog on the actual appointment day. Once the appointment came, the visit went smoothly and without major complications (i.e. no freakout of the dog, poor coping of the vet/staff, etc.) for the first time in over 6 years of countless vet trips. All in all, I could not be more pleased by my experience with HAH and will hands-down recommend HAH to anyone with an animal in the area :) Read Less

I truly rely on the excellent care provided by all the professionals at Hillsdale Animal Hospital. Been coming here for 20 plus years now. They have seen my family through a multitude of issues. The past 10 years have taken us down to Abby and Shadow...my 4 pound Chi and big boy cat. Abby we have learned is the tiny dog where if it can go wrong...it will go wrong. Everyone there is sensitive to that. Love Devon and Samantha at the front desk. Samantha is the groomer as well. Don't know what I'd do without Mitzi and her endless patience. She is essential to my peace of mind. Crystal is fabulous as well. Drs Frasier and Kirk are exceptional. I enjoy seeing them both and so appreciate the love and care they give my loved ones. Our pups have had nothing less than exceptional care with Hillsdale! Our "little old man", Roscoe, had a cyst on his spine that was removed as well as major dental surgery and our crazy boxer, Bauer, had multiple cancerous tumors that had to be removed. Dr. Kirk, Dr. Frazier and the staff's love, compassion and patience with our fur family was above and beyond anything we could have expected. Even with the not-so-pleasant procedures our pups had to endure, they are still happy babies and not at all hesitant about going to see the doc. On September 1st, Mark and I gave our last kisses to Ralphie, the sweetest, most loving and handsome boy to ever come into our lives. I would like to give a heart felt "Thank You" and word of admiration to Dr. Karla Frazier, Dr. Violet Kirk and all of the staff at Hillsdale Animal Hospital for providing the best care and giving the best "hugs". Ralphie came to Hillsdale as a Lab Rescue intake. On June 23, 2014 (the day that he arrived from Cleveland Co. Animal Shelter to Hillsdale for vetting) he was greeted with the sweetest hugs and kisses by the entire staff. He adored Dr. Frazier and Dr. Kirk...his girlfriends! He continued to receive the same gentleness and compassion for the next 2 years as he traveled from Salisbury to Advance for his vet care. My husband and I live in Gold Hill, NC and traveled 50 minutes just to be able to provide Ralphie with the most compassionate and thorough vet care... unlike any vet experience I have ever had in my many years of being a "Lab mom". Well my review will be one of which I pray no one else ever has to go through!!! Our sweet lab Marley had to be put to sleep Friday September 9th. She was our whole world and my family was heartbroken to loose her. But had some comfort in having her cremated and her ashes back home with us. Just received the call today due to a mix up at the vets office our Marley is gone her ashes will not be coming back to us because of their mistakes. So now we suffer the loss of Marley plus never get the closure we had planned for our sweet girl!!! RIP Marley your family will never forget you. Honestly I wouldn't even give this place one star. The vets did what they were there to do but the office staff from busting in not once but 3 times after saying they would give us some time with our Marley for insane reasons..... Dr. Frazier was excellent with Josette, and gave me excellent advice on how to care for her and prevent further problems with ear mites and other parasites. I have now been using Hillsdale Animal Hospital for my vet for 3 years now. They have been awesome. They have worked with my dog AND me to get him the care that he needed. These ladies know my little dog on site... even though we are not in very often. They make us feel welcome - my chihuahua who used to try to climb up my body when the vet or vet tech would come in at our old vet - NOW, he tries to follow them out the door, he forgets all about being afraid. That says more than anything, they try to put the animals at ease and at times can succeed. Read Less

Veterinary Medicine is not a 9-5 job or a 7-6 job, but a 24 hour/365 job. However, no veterinarian works 24 hours a day. Humans have to go to ER after regular hours and so do our pets. I've been a client of Hillsdale Animal Hospital since opening in 2000. Dr. Frazier and Dr. Kirk have always been courteous and respectful. During the last 15 years, they have seen a multitude of my pets and have always acted professional and compassionate. They truly care about each patient and client. I'd recommend them in any situation. I think a lot of people don't use common sense in certain situations. You wouldn't walk into your general physician with severe chest pains and get mad when they send you to the hospital. I've been in all types of situations with each Doctor and I can say they are both AWESOME! Along with the staff, the veterinarians at Hillsdale Animal Hospital, always treats everyone with respect and compassion regardless of the situation. One of my most memorable times was when my dog was sick on a Saturday morning. She was fine one minute and yelping with a painful tummy the next. When I called I was directed to come in immediately, which I did. My dog was examined by Dr. Frazier and test began. It turned out she needed 24 hour care, IV fluids, blood work every 2 hours. Dr. Frazier recommended she receive care at an emergency vet. It was my choice to take her to a ER vet, which I did. She survived and enjoyed many more years of being a patient of Hillsdale Animal Hospital. I did what Dr. Frazier recommended and my dog did great. Dr. Kirk recently spayed my kitten. My kitten had been attacked by dogs prior to us getting her and had lots of damage to her lungs/ribs. Dr. Kirk was awesome with the kitten. She made sure she was completely healed prior to surgery to insure a quick recovery. A few days after surgery, the kitten had a cough (turns out she over grooms everything!) that was worrying me so I called Hillsdale Animal Hospital. I left a message and Dr. Kirk returned my call quickly. She listened to my concerns, regardless of how trivial they may have been. My kitten is fine, thanks again to a veterinarian at Hillsdale Animal Hospital. The sad thing about animals is they can't tell their Doctor what is wrong. So many times owners wait too long to take their pet to the veterinarian. By the time the pet is seen by a vet, it may be very, very sick and require more treatment to get better. So many people blame the Doctor, but in the end owners are the ones that are to blame. Read Less

This was my first visit to Hillsdale Animal Hospital and I happened to have a sick puppy. He was dehydrated from throwing up and he had bloody stool. My appointment was at 4 on the afternoon of April 20th 2015. My daughter and I got to the appointment at 3 which was early; however, due to my puppy being so sick we went on into the vet and figured they would work with us or we would wait. We went into an exam room and the vet tech that came in was very friendly and she did a Parvo test. The Parvo test was done on a small fecal sample I took in with me. She said it looked negative but we would have to wait ten minutes for the results. We were told that we were early so we may have to wait in the exam room for the vet until closer to our appointment time. Dr. Violet Kirk came in to examine our puppy. She palpitated his tummy and to my shock stated that I would need to go to the emergency clinic to see a specialist. She said that they would not be able to monitor our puppy overnight and would be closing. She stated that if I had brought him in earlier they would have been able to do more. Dr. Kirk then took a look at my fecal sample and stated that there was not enough to have gotten an accurate Parvo Test result. I had to explain to her that in fact the vet tech did have enough to do the test. Furthermore, I wanted to know what her job was as a vet if I needed to go to the emergency clinic to see a specialist. She just stood there and repeated to me that they would be closing and that she did not know what was wrong with our puppy but she was concerned since it came on so fast. She made no attempt to do anything for our puppy. This behavior made me extremely upset and took my puppy off the exam table. I stated to Dr. Kirk that we would go elsewhere since she did not care to do her job. It was after that statement she then offered to do the blood work to save me some money and send our results the emergency clinic. I told her NO Thank-You and left Hillsdale Animal Hospital and I will never go back. The Emergency Clinic had an excellent vet that actually cared about our puppy. While at the Emergency Clinic I got a phone call from Hillsdale Animal Hospital to let me know that they would not release the results of my Parvo Test to the emergency clinic until I called them with a credit card number to pay my bill for services I consider not rendered. Neither Dr. Kirk nor anyone at Hillsdale offered to get some fluids into our dehydrated puppy while we waited in the exam room. Our puppy was lethargic from lack of fluids. If Dr. Kirk had just come in and actually took the time to do her job she would have given my puppy an IV of water to hydrate him, blood work and x-rays all procedures a regular vet office is able to do and should do prior to attemping to send a patient to a specialist. Dr. Kirk would have found that our puppy just had some inflammation in his colon. He did not require overnight care and this was not at an emergency situation that required a specialist. It was in my opinion the simple fact that Dr. Kirk just did not want to have to deal with this case so late in the afternoon and thus told us to go to the emergency clinic. I could see referring us to a specialist if Dr. Kirk had taken the time to run other test and the end result was that we still had a sick puppy that did not respond to care. I have since gotten a bill for the poor veterinarian service rendered at this hospital and they did not deduct their $40 first time customer discount. I guess that is because I did not call them from the emergency clinic with my credit card to pay for the Parvo test and office visit. Dr. Kirk said herself that I did not have enough of a stool sample for an accurate result, as for the office visit, she did not do her job. I will be sending a letter to the owner of Hillsdale Animal Hospital. I hope other new patients are not treated this way by Dr. Kirk. Veterinarian Medicine is not a 9-5 job. Read Less

I have been a client of Hillsdale Animal Hospital since the day it opened. Dr. Karla was so good with my special Lab, Teddy, and his various ailments, that when she opened her own practice, we followed. She and her staff have treated all our pets with love and compassion. We have had 5 Labradors, a few foster dogs and at least 6 cats under the care of HAH. Heck, we even acquired a few pets through them. Dr. Violet has been a wonderful addition, and I'm comfortable and confident with all the care we have received there. On two different (sad) occasions, Dr. Karla made a home visit to euthanize two of our Labs, who were in pain and too large to easily transport. They passed in the comfort of their own surroundings with the family (human and furry) around them. Thor, actually laid on a blanket in the front yard in the sunlight, with a gentle breeze flowing. It was a peaceful and dignified way to die. Read Less

If you live within 25 miles of this office GO THERE !  I cant say enough good things about Drs Frazier and Kirk and wish that everyone's "furkids" can get the wonderful care provided at Hillsdale.  I have two dogs of my own, and have had more than 30 fosters through their doors over the past 10 years and the care all receive is exceptional.  Issues are not simply shrugged off,  and they take time to try to figure out things that may seem minor.  The breadth of their knowledge is impressive, and at the same time if its something they dont know they will reach out to other sources and find an answer . . . . none of that "doctor ego" here.  Discussion about things going on with my pets are detailed and often followed up by phone-calls after hours.I have had to take fosters to other nearby vets for very simple things and i left each of them feeling like they really didnt care about the animal they were seeing, the visits were short and impersonal.   When i have a dog with mange and Dr. Frazier gets down on the floor to examine and comfort her THAT should tell you a lot !!
