There are some tough reviews on here and that is fair.  My experience with this vet was great.  They took the time to test our beloved pup and helped us make an informed decision.  Their pricing was super reasonable and greatly appreciated.   Anyone who lives in Southern Wake, Eastern Harnett or Northwest Johnston knows there are tons of vets to choose from.   We have gone to two others and costs were staggering.  We love our pets, but cannot easily absorb $500 bills!  Stage Road will be my vet going forward because they get it and they care. Pros: super cheapThat's pretty much it, but here's why I don't recommend and this is primarily based on their boarding services as our dogs were only seen for flu shots and we boarded them twice here.The first boarding was fine. You wait. And wait. But nothing major. After this boarding though I realized you get what you pay for.We have boarded our dogs many many times. We always leave their blankets and a couple toys. We rescued them from the shelter and it was important to us to have some of their things with them so they know we are coming back. This time the woman explained we can leave them, but honestly if they are soiled they will either be put in a bag to be sent home with them and washed or they will wash them and possibly get lost, with them still putting towels in there instead. I appreciated her honesty. I walked them back ad it looked clean enough. There weren't many animals in the bigger runs. None of them had blankets or towels or anything. The day of pick up (3 days later) I received a call first thing in the morning asking if we wanted to have them bathed. We don't usually use this service as they regularly visit the groomer we have (not theirs). She said they were pretty "messy". I've never ever had that issue before... we opted to not do it because if they stay after noon we are charged another day for boarding and they wouldn't be ready until three, plus again we've never had an issue. I'm glad we didn't because we would have never known.I pick up my dogs a couple hours later (around 10am) and there were again no blankets or towels down. Still not many dogs in the runs. After we get outside I looked at them and they were disgusting. My mostly white with beige shitz tzu mix was mostly black all on her legs and bottom. My beige chihuahua mix was the same. They smelled HORRIBLE. If you are familiar with the smell of an animal shelter, it is exactly that. My poor babies, and my brand new car that I had to put them in, stunk so bad. I immediately gave them a bath when we got home and one of them started drinking the bath water, which she never ever does and made me wonder how frequently they had access to water. We have been going to Old Stage since we moved here nine years ago and the past two times we have had real emergencies they almost killed our animals. The first time we had a dog that we took to get a growth on his rear end checked out and they told us it was nothing to worry about and we took him home like normal and about a week later the tumor had burst and he had a stroke and passed away. The most recent happened yesterday, we took our cat there because he had urinary crystals and we have dealt with this before at a different vet with our other cat and everything went perfect but when we took our other cat to old stage they only kept him overnight instead of 3 days like they are supposed to and called us to get him the following morning after we dropped him off. once he got home he tried to pee again and he did the same thing, hissing and growling and licking at his downstairs. We took him to the emergency hospital this morning because we woke up to diarrhea and throw up covering almost a whole room. The vets there said it was because they had taken him off IV way too early and they also gave us dry food to give him which defeats the whole purpose of trying to rehydrate him since dry food caused it. $2500 later and here we are for the second time. The Vets are very caring and knowledgeable. They take walk-ins which is really important, even though you may have to wait to be seen it’s worth it especially if you have a last minute urgency. If you’re looking for a updated fancy establishment this is not it. They don’t put their money into decorations they put it into the needs of your pet. Read Less

I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years- I've moved all over the state, tried tons of vets, and I still drive 2 hours back here to see Dr. Mendoza. She's absolutely amazing. She's so knowledgable, so thorough, so in tune. She'll work with you every way she possibly can, and she ALWAYS goes above and beyond. Also, their prices are fantastic. They charged me $78 for what another vet charged me $325 (no, this is not an exaggeration). They do stay busy, so you might have to wait. But I consider that a small price to pay to get such quality care. Read Less

I took our two dogs here a couple weeks ago (first ever visit) for a wellness exam, heartworm test, and chemical (kidney) test. They came back and told me the heartworm test came out negative (good), but their kidney levels are elevated. They prescribed a renal support food, but that was the extent of the info given. I am unfamiliar with kidney disease, so I didn't know what questions to ask. After I googled a bit, I started to question why they didn't explain what a kidney support diet should consist of, nor did they ask me any questions related to their diet.Here's the real kicker. About a week after I took them there, one of our dogs started to exhibit limping & lameness in his rear legs. Because I was not thrilled with the lack of information Stage Rd provided, we took them to Lillington Vet Hospital to get him looked at. Turns out, their tests from Stage Rd showed he has Lyme disease... and Stage Road did NOT inform us!!! It only took this other vet tech one glance at the results to determine he has Lyme disease. Note to Stage Rd: TAKE THE TIME TO INFORM YOUR CLIENTS of every issue or concern they have, and thoroughly examine and explain the test results. Not informing a pet owner that their dog has Lyme disease is unacceptable!! "Old age" is not an excuse to limit an exam or discussion of a pet's health.Note to all who are shopping around for a vet: Lillington Veterinary Hospital is a much better choice. They are responsive, extremely thorough, and don't just chalk everything up to "old age." They are only about 10-15 minutes from Stage Rd Vet, so don't let location deter you from going elsewhere. Unfortunately, we had to take our dog in for his final journey. They knew we were coming and were kind enough to escort us immediately to the room. Our vet has been working with us for the past few months and knew what we were going through. She was kind, gentle, and very understanding. They gave us all the time we needed to say good bye. This place is amazing! We took our dog for a routine cleaning and they found cancer on her leg. She is only 5 years old. They got her in the next week and removed the cancer and she's doing great. An amazing vet facility. The doctors all really care and believe in what they do. The staff treat you like family and I've never trusted my animals more with a vet hospital. This could be why I've been taking my pets to Stage Road for over 10 years. It sad seeing a the few negatives reviews, because I know just how hard this hospital really strives to be the best. Stage Road Animal Hospital recently did an incredible job taking care of my 12 year old dachshund. He needed emergency surgery to remove an infected tooth, and they went ahead and removed several rotten teeth while he was anesthetized, as well as giving him a cleaning (he had not had one in years, as we never had the money). They took great care of him, and for an incredibly reasonable price. They told us exactly how to care for him during the healing process. A year ago, he was bitten by a snake, and we brought him here - same result. He was taken care of quickly, as well as given his vaccines. They have always accommodated our budget, while taking the best care of my buddy. Cannot recommend them enough.Read Less

Been going here for over a year with our dog. Responsive staff, easy to make appointments, and decent prices. As stated, you will always wait, even if you have an appointment. They do work with you to make walkin times avaliable, but even then its just a longer wait. Read Less

Pros- best prices in wake county... I've been driving almost an hour to take my animals here because they beat all the other vet prices I've seen. The vets are well knowledgable and very helpful. Cons - even if you have an appointment you're sitting in the waiting room for 30+ minutes.. And if you come in as a walk in or a work in appt then you're looking at 1 -2 1/2 hr wait.  You basically should consider at least half your day gone. Read Less

Best veterinarian in the area!  We took our blind cat there recently because she was vomiting blood.  They gave her great care and treatment.  They did not do needless tests but did the proper blood work and XRay to look at her GI tract. There was a fur ball blocking her GI tract and after a few enemas  and overnight observation, Lucy was good to go the next day. Even though Lucy had to spend the night and they let us come visit Lucy anytime we wanted. The great news...it only cost $200. If we would have taken Lucy to our old vet at Academy East it would have easily been over $500. Read Less

I have been going to Stage Road for about three years. With 4 cats and a small dog, I see them quite often and I am always happy with my animals' treatment by Dr. Hackett. I have one cat with diabetes and one with kidney failure (both being treated and doing well). Sometimes the waiting room can be very hectic and there may be a bit of a wait, but no one has been rude to me...ever! I am very happy with their service and prices. Read Less

We have nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about Stage Rd. Vets & Staff! We have been to several other local vets and this is hands down the BEST! Caring staff and excellent care is what our 2 cats and 2 dogs have gotten. All of our pets are rescues & had health issues, heartworm, dental disease, etc.. Both are now happy, healthy pets! When our pets need checkups or surgery the pricing is upfront & clear...no added expenses. They check on our pets personally and even kept our kitty an extra day when it was best for her...so they REALLY CARE about pets and their families. The Dr. even took time to sit with me and go over all my post-op question for our barely 5lb senior bichon-poo. You won't find fancy frills, but all of my friends with ""boutique"" dogs bring them here...as well as my friends with farm dogs. We drive 30min. to get affordable, quality health care for our pets and it's well worth it! Read Less

Thought this was a good vet but was charged for services that were not necessary and was then told that I would not get my dog till the bill was paid. I know many people who leave there with outstanding balances, but for some reason I was not treated with that same respect. I had every intention of coming back but I guess that did not matter. They are getting too big to care and I would never leave my dogs in their hands EVER again. Horrible horrible people. Read Less

I have taken my dogs to this hospital many times in the past few years because their prices for shots are reasonable. The staff had never been overly personable but thats fine, the prices were worth the unpleasant personnel. However they went too far this time, they were disrespectful and when walking in didn't even know we had an appointment, even though they were doing a serious treatment. When I called later in the day I found out that they had not even done the treatment yet. I live 45 min away and needed to pick her up by the end of the work day and they had not even done the treatment yet. They were supposed to monitor the dog during the day but if the treatment isn't even done until the afternoon then I am not sure how they were going to monitor her if I was returning in just a few hours. They obviously just wanted to be able to charge what they want and do whatever job they wanted to do. That doesn't work for me especially given the situation I am in. I was then told that I would not find anywhere else to do the treatment for the same price (which I did), so they basically try to charge a very low price so that people continue to come back for their prices. Thats what they are...CHEAP! Cheap prices and cheap services. If you truly care about your animal I would not advise going here. You wouldn't find a cheap doctor for your children and I hope you wouldn't for your pet either. I will no longer give them my business and I hope you don't either. Read Less

Wilson found us! When Wilson came to us his previous Momm and Dad had not taken very good care of him. we took him to Stage Rd for a check up just to make sure. We found out he had adult and baby heartworms as well as intestinal worms. Wilson endured the intensive heartworm treatments like a champ. We are new doggie parents and the staff didn't flinch when I freaked out having to leave him. I was able to call and go visit him. He seemed safe and happy. The staff knows Wilson by name and treats him as if he were their own baby. I'm so glad that they are so knowledgeable and have been there to guide me, as well as comfort me through this entire process. Wilson is a happy heathy boy now thanks to Stage Rd Animal Hospital. I have always used Stage Road for basic yearly shots for my animals b/c of cost. HOWEVER, I do not use them for emergencies or any problems. A few years ago my cat was having problems (weight loss, vomiting) and I was told by Stage road that "" we can not figure out what is wrong with him without cutting him open."" I took my cat to a specialist in Cary (Dr. Monce who I HIGHLY recommend) who was VERY reasonable with treatment and cost. He did some tests and determined the issue. Without ""cutting him open."" * My dog 3 weeks ago was bleeding from his rectum. Took him to my specialist vet and determined that it was ecoli poison and gave him meds. Cost us $150. Our dog was fine 24 hours later. My aunt and uncle took their dog to stage road with the same problem recently. They were told that they had 2 options.. put her to sleep or take her to NCSU - which would cost $1000 (they did not have this. They opted to put her down and they did. This vet should have admitted that they had no clue what was wrong with the dog and told them to get a second opinion from a normal vet's office. Instead this 6 year old dog was put down as they were told she had liver issues. Quacks. Do not use them for anything other than shots. Read Less

Stage Road is a great place! My cat almost died from an intestinal blockage last year and he was at the hospital for 4 days. They took such good care of him and let me sit back there with him for however long I needed. Everyone is so nice and the doctors are all great. I was recently referred to this animal hospital by a close friend. After being nickel and dimed for every visit at Banfield, I felt that their wellness plans did not save me any money because they only found other things to charge me for. I brought my dog to Stage Road animal hospital for what I thought was a broken leg/dislocated hip. Dr. Hackett examined my great dane and knew exactly what was wrong with her. She did an xray to confirm her diagnosis. Unfortunately my dog had bone cancer and there was nothing that they could do for her because the cancer had already spread. Dr. Hackett was so caring and told me truthfully that I had to make a difficult decision within the next few weeks because the cancer will spread fast. I took her home that day and I was able to spend 2 additional weeks with my sweet girl, Dixie. I brought her back to Stage Road this past week so that she could make her journey to the ""Rainbow Bridge."" The staff was so good to me! I would recommend this hospital to anyone. I have been to the hospital about 6 times for my puppy's shots and physicals and I have been satisfied with every outcome of each visit. Dr. Mendoza is not much of a conversationalist but I can tell she is a die hard animal lover and treats my puppy like her own. the assistants are very nice and the front desk girls are pretty sharp. The hospital is pretty clean although I did see urine on the ground one day...well it is an ""Animal ""Hospital. The costs are pretty good. I thought owning a new puppy would cost me an arm and a leg, but going to ""Old Stage"" has proved me wrong. I would take my pet there again and again, but hopefully only for well visits ;) Read Less

Let me start by saying that my dog is basically like my child. I adopted him from a shelter about a year ago and I am extremely protective of him because he was pretty sick when I got him (underweight, 2 types of intestinal worms, heartworms). I drive almost 20 minutes to bring him to Stage Road, even though I have 2 other vets within 5 minutes of my house. They are the absolute best. We have seen both Dr. Mendoza and Dr. Hackett and they are fantastic with him and you can tell they really care about the animals. When my dog got sick while getting his intensive heartworm treatment, Dr. Hackett called me personally to let me know what was going on and to suggest options for his treatment. When I brought him back in 6 months later for his boosters, she remembered my dog and checked on him very carefully. Even though it is usually packed, I have never waited for more than about 10 minutes, which isn't too bad in my opinion. All the ladies that staff the front desk are very nice, too, and have been great about answering my tons of questions that I always have! There are some not-so-great vets in this area (Harnett County) - but I am a hardcore worrier, so if I feel this great about bringing my dog here then I recommend it to anyone! Read Less
