South Point Pet Hospital

So far not super impressed. I've only been coming here with my dog for about two months now. The second time I came in they charged me for medicine that I didn't get. I called the office during the middle of that same day and no one answered the phone, it put me to a voicemail. I left a message and no one called me back in a whole week. I emailed the vet directly and she put a credit on my account that same day.Today, I called in because my dog was having an issue and spoke to Jerry. She told me that she would check with the doctor and call me back. It has been almost five hours and I haven't heard. I called back and spoke to someone else and went over the same information again, with no explanation for why I wasn't called back regarding medicine or treatment. Now i'm going on almost another half hour with no call back. The vet is very nice and seems to really care about the animals and she is very gentle and sweet with my puppy. However, the reception leaves a lot to be desired. I might be looking for a new vet soon.Update: It's been two weeks since I posted my review. I still stand by what I said about Dr. Hartge being great. I had a question about my dog's food and I contacted her directly and she was a great help. However, last night my dog got sick and I called in this morning and I was told that he can't come in today and to take him to urgent vet, which apparently doesn't open for another 7 hours. OK? That's great, a doctor where you can't even bring a regular patient when they get sick. Oh and P.S. my puppy just projectile vomited across the living room. Definitely not waiting 7 hours to take him somewhere that isn't even his doctor. Will be going somewhere else, asap this morning.Final conclusion, I do not recommend this "pet hospital". Excellent vet, highly recommend!  I have been to many vets as I move frequently, and by far this is the best I've ever been to! They do not have as fancy of a facility as some do, but the office is spotless and the staff is amazing. My dog is a rescue and usually terrified of the vet, but was happy her entire time at this clinic.  Wish I could move them with me! :) Read Less

Very good veterinarian. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my pets. Never had an issue and pricing seems fair to me. Highly recommended. The new urgent vet is ran by same doctor so you're pets are in good hands at either place. Read Less

South Point Pet Hospital is a phenomenal vet practice with top-notch vets and an awesome, caring staff! Our St. Bernard recently had a cyst removed from his head (of all places) and we couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. We trust (and have for years) SPPH to care for the furry members of our family. Read Less

Love for all animals...compassion for very sick ones...and a sense of humor for um, challenging new patients are all the wonderful attributes you want in the people taking care of your fur babies. Before I get started let me first say that over the years I have spent a significant amount of money on my dog. Now, although my dog has only been a patient at South Point for about 2 years, I purchase a prescription from them every single month. I have to physically go in and pick it up because south Point WILL NOT fax prescriptions to outside pharmacies under any circumstances. I have always thought this was bizzare because the heartworm medicine I use for my dog is NOT available directly from South Point. They said they could order it for me after they couldn't talk me into something they had available ... but it would be $40 more than Allivet, where I usually order those types of medication. Since they refuse to fax scripts, although it's 2016 and I already spent $250 on the annual check up, I had to go back, pick up a written script and mail it to Allivet. Fine, whatever, again Allivet was $40 cheaper. I still spend money every 4 weeks for another medication that is seriously too much hassle to mail in a written script every month and the turnover time to have the mailed in script filled every month would compromise my dog's Health so I buy this medication straight from south point. Recently my dog developed an infection and the antibiotic they gave me for her was $61.30 for 14 tablets. I was shocked since about 3 months ago my dog was prescribed a generic of this same antibiotic by Urgent Vet (but 60 pills), and I paid $32 for 60 pills. But I paid the $61.30 for this pill because they didn't even OFFER a written prescription just filled it (after a lot of hassle I won't even get into). I was stunned but left, called another vet AND a pharmacy AND checked online... and the price comes out on the high end at $1.72 a pill. South Point however, charged me $61.30. Also, on South Points OWN pharmacy website they only charge $50 for 30 of these SAME pills they charged me $61.30 @ 14 pills for at the desk. I wish I could give this zero stars...The ONLY reason I am not giving this place 1 star is because I do think Dr. Hartsge is a good vet but this office as a whole does not seem to put pets first but rather CHEAT their LOYAL patients. After this fiasco, as well as their refusal to acknowledge this shady business ... I felt it necessary to leave this review. I live in Belmont and this place is close but they are extremely wrong in the way they handle prescription/medication prices with mark ups like this. I understand dogs are expensive. In fact, I spent $100 at south Point in June 2016 for them to reveal NOTHING at all was wrong. I spent $6500 2 years ago on my dog after suffering a spinal injury. So I understand vets are expensive I understand they still have a business to run but this was the absolute last straw and I would advise any CURRENT patients to check prices. South Point makes it extremely difficult to purchase medicines outside from Them and now I see why. It's a VERY lucrative business for them. Read Less

My husband & I have had nothing but exceptional service from Dr. Dobies and the entire staff at SPPH. We love Pit Bulls and they have been our only Vet since the beginning with Dirty until his passing, and now the ever so energetic Bella. They know us, respect us, make calls to check up on pets after all visits, have convenient hours, clean facilities, updated equipment, keep up with technology and are affordable. One memorable time, our relative was "vaco" watching Dirty and noticed a change in his demeanor. Because we had talked about Dr Dobies so much, he called SPPH and took him right in. He was impressed how they really knew him when he walked thru the door! He was diagnosed, treated and back to his normal self when we arrived back home. Read Less

South Point Vets are the best! We won't take our canine babies anywhere else. They do such a great job working with the dogs, whether it is for a wellness or if you are in for a sick visit. Our new puppy had a lot of health issues when we rescued her. Each time I brought her in to see them, they treated us both so well (even with all of my tears). I recommend everyone to use them! This is the very best vet I have ever found! I have moved around a lot in the last 15 years and have had many vets and only a few critters... The amount of care and time given to us and our critters when we visit South Point Pet Hospital is astounding! This is a vet that offers very personal care that is far above and beyond any other vet that I have ever visited. I cannot thank Dr Hartge and Dr Dobies, and all of their staff, enough for all of the help with our animals in the last 2 and a half years! We have been through a lot in the last few years with our animals and I don't know what we would do if not for South Point Pet Hospital!!! Read Less

I called this place the other day just to ask a simple question. It's close to my house so it was one of the first ones to pop up. They would not even answer my question because I didn't take my animals there. I definitely won't be taking any of my animals there now, I'll take my business else where! I called another vets office that I do not take my animals to and they were more then happy to answer my questions and so friendly about it too so I think I'll go there. My dog is a regular patient here and we have always had a great experience.Scheduling is always convenient and often there are same day appointments available.The staff is very friendly and caring, they always remember me and my dog and they take time to listen and understand.Depending on the reason for the visit, they will typically call to follow up and ensure that everything is improving or going well--I've spoken with the vets personally and received helpful information post appointment. I have no complaints and I feel that my dog has always received great care here, I definitely recommend them. Read Less

I wouldn't take my pet anywhere else. I've taken my cat several places in his 17+ years and Dr. Sarah Hartge is one of the best. She truly cares about your baby as if he was her own and understands that they are not just pets; they are members of the family. Read Less

We cannot say enough wonderful things about SPPH. Dr. Dobies and the entire staff are amazing. They welcomed us and our dog, Stout, with open arms and the service we received was incredible. They are very thorough and communicate so well. Each staff member we came into contact with has been beyond great. The follow up we received from them after Stout's surgery has been great as well. I have used South Point Pet Hospital ever since they opened. It is really hard to find a vet you trust. South Point Pet Hospital is great. I have always been satisfied with the treatment of my pets. They always know the most current practices used when treating pets. The office is always clean and my cats have always been treated kindly, even when they were divas. They always fit me in when I need an appointment and I never have to wait more than a week. When I have had an emergency, they have always seen me immediately. Not only am I am customer but I used to work with Dr Dobies and Liz. I have always admired them both. Everyone in the office generally cares about animals. Dr Hartge is a great addition. This is a great Hospital. If you are looking for somewhere to take your pet sick or well, I give South Point Pet Hospital 5 stars. Read Less

I moved here recently with my 15 yr old dog, she was the best! But within a few weeks of moving, she was really not doing well. I did a quick google search, checked some reviews and called South Point Pet Hospital. They were amazing! I brought Timer in on Monday and Dr. Dobies spent a ton of time with us, going over options and ideas. I left very happy. But it was Timber's time to pass, and on Friday morning I called, they brought me in right away and again Dr. Dobies spent time with us. They put a blanket on the floor, he sat with us, talked to me, he gave me chocolate (it was worth a shot right?) and one of the most horrible experiences was made a little easier by him and everyone at that office. I can't thank them enough for just having the time and compassion for Timber and me- they will have my business and my recommendation for as long as I own a pet.Read Less
