Best "emergency" experience someone could ask for on a weekend for their pet. From the moment I called to see if my pup could be seen to our arrival, check-in and check-out, the office staff were all incredibly calm, patient, and nurturing. In the exam room, we had the pleasure of being looked after by Amanda and Dr. Farrell. They were both incredibly kind and showcased impeccable “bedside manner,” keeping their voices steady, and actions slow and intentional eliminating any additional stress for me or my boy. They were gentle and kept the energy positive and reassuring for us even when my buddy was taken back without me for x-rays. Dr. Farrell gave us a multi-level treatment plan starting with some medication, which upon request, they administered effortlessly to him on my behalf. They reviewed initial costs with me over the phone, again while in the exam room while determining the treatment plan, and again at checkout. While expensive, like any doctor visit/treatment for a human or pet, the only surprise was that I expected it to be way more, simply because it was an “emergency,” a Sunday, and my dog was not an established patient. I felt the price for the care we received was very reasonable. The next day we received a follow up call from Dr. Farrell to check on my buddy, as well as a call from the office staff ensuring our experience was ok. I can't say nice enough things for all those I encountered at this appointment. I am so incredibly grateful for each of them, and for the compassion they all displayed. On top of all that, this facility is brand new, and absolutely beautiful, clean, welcoming, and considerably easy to get to. My dog became sick on a Saturday, when the animal hospital I had taken him to in Southport is closed. At the recommendation of the folks at Dog Days Boarding in Southport, I contacted Capeside. Though We had never been there before, and had no appointment, they encouraged us to come in. We did so, and before long were seen by Lu and Dr. Wallis. They could not have been kinder or more caring, And 24 hours later my dog is doing much better. I was also very impressed by the large, modern facility. And the fact that they have Saturday and even Sunday hours is a huge plus. It is a bit of a drive from my home, but well worth it. Read Less

I never owed a puppy before and this animal hospital was recommended to me. The staff is super helpful and the vets really care about your pet. My puppy loved the staff as well. Especially the treats. Being a new puppy mom they gave me print outs of information on potty training and play biting and how to navigate everything. We have been using Capeside for 2 years now and could not be happier with the care our 2 dachshunds receive. We consider our dogs to be patients of Dr. Hayley Bush but they have on occasion been seen by other staff veterinarians without any loss of confidence on our part. I was so impressed by this veterinary office and the entire staff I dealt with today that I didn't want to wait to write this review. This is the best experience I have ever had by far with a vet's office. From the moment I called until I checked out I was treated with kindness. I had just moved to Leland and Holly, who answered my phone call this morning, was able to get my cat, Duchess in at 9:00 a.m. Megan and Kathy checked me in and they already had my cat's record from her other vet's office. They were super friendly and professional. Christina, who brought my cat in for her exam was so nice. Dr Wallis was truly amazing. They were so great with my cat and their prices were fair. I recently adopted a 3 month old Lab-mix pup and chose Capeside for his exam. Kathy was at front desk and welcomed me and Jersey .Michele was Asst. to Dr. Sami...they were so pleasant and gentle with my pup Jersey. Capeside is WONDERFUL!!!! They are a large facility and even have Sunday hours- but everyone is very helpful and caring. They have 2 entrances and waiting rooms- one for cats and one for dogs. When we hade to put our cat to sleep, they were very kind to me on the phone as I inquired, and super nice the day we came in. Dr Wallis was very kind and considerate as she explained the painless procedure, treated our cat with love and gave us lots of time to say goodbye. They have cared for our cat and dog for over 2 years, we have had contact with 3 of the wonderful doctors- and they are always caring and professional. My dog became very ill right before the Christmas holiday. I took her to see Dr. Hanby. Dr. Hanby did blood tests and an X-Rays. She called me and said she was concerned and advised that I get an ultrasound at the emergency vet clinic. At that time I was working and could not get out so Dr. Hanby had a staff member bring my dog to the clinic. After the ultrasound she found out that my dog had a twisted spleen and that she needed immediate surgery or she would not make it. With it being the holidays, the local specialist that could perform that surgery was on vacation. Dr. Hanby having not performed that complex of a surgery in the past advised me to bring my dog to NC state hospital. Being limited for time and the condition my dog was in she would not have made it to Raleigh. I asked Dr. Hanby if she could perform the surgery. She advised me that she felt it would be best if we could rush her to Raleigh. I told her we could not accommodate that travel in time. Dr. Hanby agreed to do the surgery and 45 minutes later my dog was in recovery. Dr. Hanby was able to remove the twisted spleen without any issues and saved my dog's life. I am forever indebted to Dr. Hanby and the Capeside staff for the care they gave to my dog. Dr. Hanby truly performed a Christmas miracle. Read Less

I had a sick puppy on Saturday and needed to find a vet closer to me than where I usually go (in Supply). I called because I was was referred to them by a friend. I asked if they take walk ins and the woman who answered the phone rudely replied that they do, but that I would have to wait until all the appointments had been seen (I understand as a walk in there is more of wait) but then she wanted to know if we were already patients and I explained to her that we weren't but that my puppy needed to be seen. I then inquired as to how busy they were and if him being seen was a possibility to which I got a long drawn out sigh and the response oh yes, we're very busy. At this point, I was over her attitude and quite frankly more worried about my puppy than her so I politely said "thank you, I will find someone to see him that won't be so inconvenienced". I'm not saying everyone at the office acts this way, and maybe this lady was having a particularly bad day... But her attitude will keep me from ever going there and I will share this story with everyone. Side note: After I hung up, someone from that number tried to call me at least 6 times, but I was on the phone with the vet that ended up seeing my puppy. Read Less

I've been taking my two dogs and cat to this vet for five years. I always got a used car sales feeling when I came here. Just ignored it thinking I was being cheap. But after my last visit with my cat and then reviewing old bills. I realized that I never got out of there for less than $400. And like others have said, they ran tests after tests for nothing. Plus, the kicker is that for the three real problems that I went in for, the vet never gave a firm diagnosis and never gave a real treatment. Time healed my pets and/or they have a livable health condition now.My last visit with my dog they pushed chiropractic services. What a joke. This vet doesn't fix animals, they fix their customer's perception. This place is after your money not the health of your pet. They always go for the pricey test to the muddy water diagnosis and then the if and or but treatment. Watch for their employee turn over, addition services list before seeing the vet, employee scrubs with logos on them. This gives you the signs of a corporate run money machine that preys on your empathy.To all you five star reviews, go back and read your bills don't go off your feelings. I went to this Veterinarian clinic several times over the five years I lived in Leland. I had a great experience up until I ended up seeing Dr Sheila Hanby the last two visits. She is incredibly rude and condescending. I was moving to California and was interested in having my three year old cat flown out in pet cargo. She chastised me and told me I should bring him with me as a carry on. She actually compared flying her own dog from Florida to NC (which she stuck him in cargo btw) to me flying to California. My flight with plane changes of four times was 12 hours: Wilmington to CharlotteCharlotte to PhoenixPhoenix to Los AngelesLos Angeles to San Luis Obispo, CA I was upset and looking for solutions and I knew the solution was not to stick a cat under a plane seat for 12 hours amongst strange noises, people and four plane chages. She ridiculed me and made me feel worse. My fiancé went back the second time because I couldn't deal with her poor bedside manner. She was equally rude and condescending to him. I ultimately paid a professional transport service to drive my cat across the country. Which he arrived safe and sound. Dr Sheila Hanby should learn the art of being tactful and help her clients come up with alternative solutions (such as professional transport aka driving) instead of being condescending and down right rude. Again, this is the same woman who criticized me for "thinking" about flying my pet in pet cargo, who actually did stick her own dog in cargo on her flight from Florida. At least I was able to create a solution for my pet and myself that was a win win. Read Less

I could not disagree more with Shamma Lammadingdong in regard to his review of Dr. Christine Carmine, DVM. When we moved to NC in 2006 we took our then eight year old dog to an animal hospital in Wilmington. After a few visits Dr. Carmine became our vet of choice. We have always found her to be compassionate, kind, patient, extremely knowledgeable and never once felt nickel or dimed. Because of her superb skills, excellent bedside manner and genuine concern for our dog, we naturally transferred our dogs records to Capeside Animal Hospital when Dr. Carmine joined their practice. She cried with us when our almost 15 year old dog went to Rainbow Bridge. She handled her death with care, sensitivity and compassion. She even made a copy of the Rainbow Bride poem and personally gave it to us. When we made the decision to get another dog our first appointment after picking her up from the breeder was with Dr. Carmine. Not having had a puppy in more than 15 years was somewhat of a challenge for us. I became totally frustrated when our puppy refused to go for a simple walk. I spoke to Dr. Carmine and immediately she offered her help. I went to her home and off we went for a mile long walk in her neighborhood accompanied by her two rescue dogs and my puppy. By the end of that walk she was used to the leash. Something that used to be pure agony is now an absolute joy. Our puppy continues to thrive under Dr. Carmines excellent care Read Less

I belong to a silky terrier group here on fb. Fenway Connor is one or your patients who had to have a surgery today. His mom has been keeping our group updated on how things were going. When she went to pick Fenway Dr Moore brought him out to her and she could tell by the look on her face that she was not sure she would be able to provide the care Fenway needed. Dr. Moore immediately volunteered to take Fenway home for the night so she could watch over him. She even called Ellen...Fenway's mom tonight...to give her an update on how he was doing! I just wanted to say what an amazing doctor Dr. Moore is! Her love and compassion for her patients are well beyond anything I have ever seen!
