Such a pleasant change for my dog and I. I will highly recommend this place to anyone who is tired of being upsold or treated as if you should consider yourself lucky to spend your money there. The front office was very efficient, plenty of room for myself and my dog. When we went to meet Dr Cottrell after 5 minutes of waiting in total, I felt like I was meeting an old friend and my girl was completely at ease due to the kindness of the assistant before Ked came in. He never once tried to sell me anything or push any additional tests. Exam done,shots given, blood drawn and sent off with my wallet not even in distress. We have a new home for the rest of my girls life. VERY PLEASED.P.S.I managed to get through this whole post without talking shit about the place we left after 17 years of patronage, and they will not get any free advertising from me on here. Feel free to check my review of them and know I stand by it.

I moved to Wilmington two years ago, but spend a lot of my Time in CT. I couldn’t change my vet that I have had for 30 years because they were so personal. But they recently got bigger and less attentive and more about the money. So I wanted to change vets. Unfortunately my dog was hurt when he stepped on an oyster shell and needed stitches. After calling around to four vets, the only. Tell that gave me the time of day, was pleasure Island. The doc there is amazing and so personable and caring. It is exactly the place that I will continue to bring my dogs for care. The staff there is so loving and friendly, I felt like I’ve been going there forever. I highly recommend this office to anyone moving into the area. They are right over the bridge to Carolina beach near flaming Amy’s. They are a perfect fit for me and my dogs. Thank you for fitting me in to your very busy schedule. 🙏🏻

My family and I had to make an awful decision in order for our loving dog to no longer be in pain. Cancer had consumed her and quality of life had become quite poor. In such a terrible time, Dr. Todd was nothing but caring, loving and sympathetic to not only us but our dog’s (Chloe) needs. She immediately sat on the floor (never attempting to put her on the cold, hard metal drop down of a table), where our poor Chloe laid. She hugged her, loved on her all while providing care... and compassion to us. Even though it was closing time, Dr. Todd allowed us to have all the time we wanted for our final goodbyes. There was no rush or feelings as though we were making everyone stay a little late even though that was the case. Dr. Todd explained exactly what was going to happen and took her time answering the many questions we had to ask. Upon leaving, Dr. Todd did something that was so meaningful and something I have never experienced before at any other veterinarian’s office, a great big bear hug. That hug was needed more than ever at such a terrible time in our lives. I don’t think she will ever know the comfort that was received at that very moment. Prior to Chloe’s passing Dr. Todd preformed a surgery to try to give us a little more time with Chloe. God blessed her with steady hands as she did such a wonderful job, unfortunately, God had his own plan for Chloe. I do not have one complaint about Pleasure Island and would recommend them to any and everyone. Dr. Todd was able to shine some light into the worst possible situation and for that, I am beyond and FUR-ever grateful. We love you, Dr. Todd, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. See More

Dr. Todd saved my dogs life! We were vacationing and my dog became very ill. I Googled to find a vet in the area. Luckily I chose this clinic. Ended up my dog ate sand and had a blockage. The clinic was booked for the day so Dr. Todd and colleague teamed up on her lunch break to do an emergency surgery. Everything turned out fine. If Dr. Todd wasn't willing to give up her time to operate, and had sent us to Wilmington to the nearest emergency hospital, my dog may have not made it. I can't say enough about this clinic! The entire staff was concerned about my dog and went out of their way to comfort me. Great people!

Dr. Cottrell and his team are the best. We have been bringing our dog and cat to Pleasure Island Animal Hospital since they opened in 2011 and have had nothing but good experiences. This practice affords the very best care and is sensitive to the fact that some of us can't afford to perform every test under the sun when our animals are not well. We have worked with other vets in the area and would recommend PIAH above them all.

This practice is FANTASTIC! Dr. Cottrell and his staff have done a fabulous job for us for over 5 years now. These guys care tremendously about what they do and the pets they care for. Dr. Cottrell actually avoids expensive tests when they are not necessary and presents a complete array of options for treatment. You always leave here feeling that you have done the very best for your pet. Our dog actually likes going here and she will run in and jump on the scale to get weighed.

I had to put down my little Sadie just before Thanksgiving 2015, they could not have been more caring and understanding during the whole process. Dogs #2 and 3 came along, Ruby and MayMay and they are well cared for every time we visit. Had an emergency need with Ruby 3 weeks ago, they took her within 1/2 hour of my call. Pleasant, accommodating and reasonably priced.

I would not take m dog there. They upsell you, they took my dog in the back to cut nails and gave a shot and a flea pill which they charged me for before even asking. They also charged me for a checkup, and less than a week later my dog is dying of a massive tumor that was found by The Country Vet by just feeling her stomach. Dr, Cottrell is the vet that saw my dog. When I called the office to tell them the girl at the desk dismissed me and said she was glad I had found a vet I was happy with. No call from the vet no nothing. Bedside manner is awful, followup is even worse. Everyone can make a mistake but the vet should have called me.

Dr. Cottrel is a great man and he actually cares for the animals and you only need to meet him to see just how devoted he really is. The staff is wonderful as well. I can assure u it will not take you weeks to get an appointment, I can assure you your experience will be one in which you will leave knowing your pets are in the best of hands. He will not try to overcharged you doing unnecessary tests . He is one of those old school vets who believes in honesty, he is compassionate, I can't say enough good things about those facility!! Now that Dr. Cottrel is there this vet is going to continue to gain more and more respect!

Wow... worst vet I have EVER been to. For starters, it took 2 weeks to get an appointment. I called half a dozen times in one week just to get an inital appontment for my Lab. Either no one answered or the person making the appointments was "unavailable." Finally got an appointment and went in. We got standard vaccinations and then they tried to push some blood work on us that was several hundred dollars. When I explained I did not have the money to do that right now I got a snotty attitude from the tech. Our little guy is part of our family and we will do anything he needs to be healthy, but I do not need to be made to feel like crap because I did not have the money to spend on testing that they even admitted was "not necessary." I will NEVER go back there again! The bright side... we wound up going to the vet on college road near walmart in monkey junction. So far so good!. I will write a review on them after a couple of visits.

They even sent me an appointment card when I called the number on the appointment card they told me I must have the wrong vet. They are very rude here. If they can't keep a record of me or my pet, then I don't want them caring for my pet.

Moved here from the northeast a year ago with 3 greyhounds in tow. The local "greyhound lady" highly recommended Pleasure Island Animal Hospital. One of our dogs was injured just before we moved and PIAH did all the followup. A few months later another of our dogs sustained an injury too and we sought the care of the PIAH staff.I can't say enough about the care by Dr.s Cottrel and Crow and the rest of the Pleasure Island staff. They have been wonderful showing great care and concern for my dogs.To put the icing on the cake, compared to what I used to pay up north, the cost of care here is very reasonable. I can't recommend them enough!

Such a pleasant change for my dog and I. I will highly recommend this place to anyone who is tired of being upsold or treated as if you should consider yourself lucky to spend your money there. The front office was very efficient, plenty of room for myself and my dog. When we went to meet Dr Cottrell after 5 minutes of waiting in total, I felt like I was meeting an old friend and my girl was completely at ease due to the kindness of the assistant before Ked came in. He never once tried to sell me anything or push any additional tests. Exam done,shots given, blood drawn and sent off with my wallet not even in distress. We have a new home for the rest of my girls life. VERY PLEASED.P.S.I managed to get through this whole post without talking shit about the place we left after 17 years of patronage, and they will not get any free advertising from me on here. Feel free to check my review of them and know I stand by it.

I moved to Wilmington two years ago, but spend a lot of my Time in CT. I couldn’t change my vet that I have had for 30 years because they were so personal. But they recently got bigger and less attentive and more about the money. So I wanted to change vets. Unfortunately my dog was hurt when he stepped on an oyster shell and needed stitches. After calling around to four vets, the only. Tell that gave me the time of day, was pleasure Island. The doc there is amazing and so personable and caring. It is exactly the place that I will continue to bring my dogs for care. The staff there is so loving and friendly, I felt like I’ve been going there forever. I highly recommend this office to anyone moving into the area. They are right over the bridge to Carolina beach near flaming Amy’s. They are a perfect fit for me and my dogs. Thank you for fitting me in to your very busy schedule. 🙏🏻

My family and I had to make an awful decision in order for our loving dog to no longer be in pain. Cancer had consumed her and quality of life had become quite poor. In such a terrible time, Dr. Todd was nothing but caring, loving and sympathetic to not only us but our dog’s (Chloe) needs. She immediately sat on the floor (never attempting to put her on the cold, hard metal drop down of a table), where our poor Chloe laid. She hugged her, loved on her all while providing care... and compassion to us. Even though it was closing time, Dr. Todd allowed us to have all the time we wanted for our final goodbyes. There was no rush or feelings as though we were making everyone stay a little late even though that was the case. Dr. Todd explained exactly what was going to happen and took her time answering the many questions we had to ask. Upon leaving, Dr. Todd did something that was so meaningful and something I have never experienced before at any other veterinarian’s office, a great big bear hug. That hug was needed more than ever at such a terrible time in our lives. I don’t think she will ever know the comfort that was received at that very moment. Prior to Chloe’s passing Dr. Todd preformed a surgery to try to give us a little more time with Chloe. God blessed her with steady hands as she did such a wonderful job, unfortunately, God had his own plan for Chloe. I do not have one complaint about Pleasure Island and would recommend them to any and everyone. Dr. Todd was able to shine some light into the worst possible situation and for that, I am beyond and FUR-ever grateful. We love you, Dr. Todd, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. See More

Dr. Todd saved my dogs life! We were vacationing and my dog became very ill. I Googled to find a vet in the area. Luckily I chose this clinic. Ended up my dog ate sand and had a blockage. The clinic was booked for the day so Dr. Todd and colleague teamed up on her lunch break to do an emergency surgery. Everything turned out fine. If Dr. Todd wasn't willing to give up her time to operate, and had sent us to Wilmington to the nearest emergency hospital, my dog may have not made it. I can't say enough about this clinic! The entire staff was concerned about my dog and went out of their way to comfort me. Great people!

This practice affords the very best care and is sensitive to the fact that some of us can't afford to perform every test under the sun when our animals are not well. We have worked with other vets in the area and would recommend PIAH above them all.

This practice is FANTASTIC! Dr. Cottrell and his staff have done a fabulous job for us for over 5 years now. These guys care tremendously about what they do and the pets they care for. Dr. Cottrell actually avoids expensive tests when they are not necessary and presents a complete array of options for treatment. You always leave here feeling that you have done the very best for your pet. Our dog actually likes going here and she will run in and jump on the scale to get weighed.

I had to put down my little Sadie just before Thanksgiving 2015, they could not have been more caring and understanding during the whole process. Dogs #2 and 3 came along, Ruby and MayMay and they are well cared for every time we visit. Had an emergency need with Ruby 3 weeks ago, they took her within 1/2 hour of my call. Pleasant, accommodating and reasonably priced.

Our dog developed a bad belly while we were in Carolina Beach on a short trip. They got us in right away, hydrated her and gave her meds to correct the issue. Very friendly and efficient.

I would not take m dog there. They upsell you, they took my dog in the back to cut nails and gave a shot and a flea pill which they charged me for before even asking. They also charged me for a checkup, and less than a week later my dog is dying of a massive tumor that was found by The Country Vet by just feeling her stomach. Dr, Cottrell is the vet that saw my dog. When I called the office to tell them the girl at the desk dismissed me and said she was glad I had found a vet I was happy with. No call from the vet no nothing. Bedside manner is awful, followup is even worse. Everyone can make a mistake but the vet should have called me.

Dr. Cottrel is a great man and he actually cares for the animals and you only need to meet him to see just how devoted he really is. The staff is wonderful as well. I can assure u it will not take you weeks to get an appointment, I can assure you your experience will be one in which you will leave knowing your pets are in the best of hands. He will not try to overcharged you doing unnecessary tests . He is one of those old school vets who believes in honesty, he is compassionate, I can't say enough good things about those facility!! Now that Dr. Cottrel is there this vet is going to continue to gain more and more respect!

Wow... worst vet I have EVER been to. For starters, it took 2 weeks to get an appointment. I called half a dozen times in one week just to get an inital appontment for my Lab. Either no one answered or the person making the appointments was "unavailable." Finally got an appointment and went in. We got standard vaccinations and then they tried to push some blood work on us that was several hundred dollars. When I explained I did not have the money to do that right now I got a snotty attitude from the tech. Our little guy is part of our family and we will do anything he needs to be healthy, but I do not need to be made to feel like crap because I did not have the money to spend on testing that they even admitted was "not necessary." I will NEVER go back there again! The bright side... we wound up going to the vet on college road near walmart in monkey junction. So far so good!. I will write a review on them after a couple of visits.

They even sent me an appointment card when I called the number on the appointment card they told me I must have the wrong vet. They are very rude here. If they can't keep a record of me or my pet, then I don't want them caring for my pet.

Moved here from the northeast a year ago with 3 greyhounds in tow. The local "greyhound lady" highly recommended Pleasure Island Animal Hospital. One of our dogs was injured just before we moved and PIAH did all the followup. A few months later another of our dogs sustained an injury too and we sought the care of the PIAH staff.I can't say enough about the care by Dr.s Cottrel and Crow and the rest of the Pleasure Island staff. They have been wonderful showing great care and concern for my dogs.To put the icing on the cake, compared to what I used to pay up north, the cost of care here is very reasonable. I can't recommend them enough!
