GET A RECEIPT UPON ARRIVAL OF ALL PROCEDURES THEY WANT TO DO TO YOUR PET. Twice now I have been charged for procedures I did not agree to--one of which was a subcutaneous injection of fluids because my dog was a little dehydrated. I can hydrate my own dog. It's not like we found her on the side of the road. We take her home and she's leaking fluid all onto my husband which was very worrisome. They will ask you "Did you get that free sample of ___?" And of course they don't offer it to you until your dog is past the free sample weight limit. I thought my dog had a UTI so I brought in a urine sample (but forgot to keep it in the fridge for a couple hours). She said she needed another sample which I didn't know meant pricking her with a needle to get it (naive I know). But neither sample showed a bacterial infection. If she would have tested the sample I gave her there would have been no need to stick her with a needle (probably not a big deal but if she was going to test both anyway...). Don't buy medication from them. I got one sentinel pill for $30 when I could have gotten 6 for the same price on Chewy. The vets here are after your money and not the care of your pet. I now drive 3 times as far to go to Banfield. They always know what medicine my dog needs, what the meds do and how to administer them, they tell me the price beforehand and I can choose whether or not I want it, and their puppy plan is amazing. $500 for a year including a spay, free visits, and all of her vaccinations! I wish I knew about them before and didn't waste my time and money here just cause it was close. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Don't go here. Read Less

This place is the WORST. I am not at all confident that the receptionist I spoke to even likes animals. I am a local elementary school teacher and recently visited this office after my students found three kittens on our playground at recess. We rescued the abandoned kittens and I took them to this office because it was the closest, and I figured they would certainly be willing to give me advice and help me out... it is teacher appreciation week, after all! The first words out of the receptionists' mouth were, "we don't look at animals without payment." Interestingly enough, my next stop was Carrboro Veterinary Plaza and they welcomed the kittens with open arms, checked them out for me, loved on them and sent us home with all kinds of accoutrements. I will never ever go back to The Animal Hospital of Carrboro and strongly recommend you take your pets five minutes up the road to Carrboro Veterinary Plaza. Read Less

Please don’t support this business. One of my friends used to work here and she was relentlessly bullied by the head vet (Dr. Anderson). It was as if she picked one person in the building to torment and then when they quit, on to the next person. It got to the point to where my friend would come home crying every night and believing what the doctor was accusing her of (being thick, stupid, making mistakes when she wasn’t, telling her she would never accomplish anything). None of her coworkers took her side on anything. She finally quit when her family found her in a sobbing mess on the floor dreading the day ahead. My friend is presently suffering from PTSD from her experience and has panic attacks even thinking about working there. Her nightmares keep her up constantly and she has terrible self esteem to where she’s scared of applying anywhere and won’t leave the house. The staff there, while possible good with animals, are terrible humans and I wish to god we had evidence of this so she could sue. Read Less

I've had nothing but fantastic experiences at this vet. I see Dr. Crum. She spends a lot of time with my dog and is very thorough. She communicates clearly and really cares about her patients. My dog had to get his leg amputated and she was incredibly helpful in walking me through various options and also directing me to resources to help with the cost. The wait time is usually very reasonable (no more than 20 minutes) and the availability is great (I can usually get in either same day if something is wrong). This is one of the worst animal hospitals I have visited.  And I want you all to know that I've been a loyal customer, coming regularly for my dog's check ups, so felt even more upset with their treatment because I was a 'regular'.  I had an appointment scheduled for Saturday morning for my dog's check up.  I even received a reminder call from the vet's office 2 days before my appointment.  So my sweet pooch and I arrived promptly for our appointment and were told we had to wait because there were 3 emergencies ahead of us.  What!!!!  I told them I had an appointment, but the receptionists didn't seem to care.  They told me that it was their policy.  So I started waiting, thinking it would be a few minutes.  50 minutes later, just before closing time, they whisked us into a back room.  I waited another 10 minutes, so now it was fully 1 HOUR since I arrived for my appointment, and I could hear the vets/techs in the back laughing and kidding around.  NO ONE CAME INTO OUR ROOM.  Finally I'd had enough.  I got a copy of my pet's medical record and left, letting them know that we would not be returning.  It is clear to me that greed was the motivating factor here.  The Animal Hospital charges much more for emergencies than regular check ups.  They obviously care nothing for responsible pet owners who bring in their healthy pets for check ups and preventive tests/vaccines.  We'll be going to one of the other fine vets in the area, who are run by professionals. We've been taking our beagle to the Animal Hospital for 7 years now. Even after moving from Chapel Hill to Raleigh this spring, we still make the trek down I-40 for these guys... Because they are worth it.Drs. Dorsch and Anderson are excellent vets and very compassionate to both the humans and animals they deal with. They do a ton of their own lab work in house, as opposed to sending it out to a lab, which I love. They seem equally into the science of their work and the art of treating their furry patients.I hope we can find a vet that we like as well as these guys in Raleigh, but until then we will continue logging miles on I-40 to get our dog cared for at the Animal Hospital. My cat now receives better health care than I do. Bravo, United States of Frivolous Lawsuits & Unaffordable Health-care/disinterest. I took Midna to another vet when I first arrived in this town, who diagnosed her hacking and wheezing attacks as mere allergies, and who suggested that further testing would cost a significant amount, and where any new diagnosis would likely be untreatable. As seasons passed and the attacks continued, I found this diagnosis more difficult to accept, let alone believe. That's when I took her highness to the Animal Hospital of Carrboro (AHC), and our lives changed forever. No, really, things changed.Midna's new doc, Dr. Dorsch, rolled out the red carpet and never rolled it back up. He agreed (I like it when people agree with me) that it was unlikely to be allergies, and more likely to be a list of other things. This list was the list of things the other vet had warned against testing for due to cost/inability-to-treat. Dr. Dorsch, however, recommended we test one possibility at a time, according to cost, likelihood, and treatability. First up? Cat asthma, testing via xray.Diagnosis? Cat asthma.Treatment? Some inhalers.Problem solved! Midna has been nearly attack-free for 8 months. During that time, Dr. Dorsch has made himself available for consult via email, responding to my inquiries within a day.Who gets this kind of treatment from a family physician who has dozens of other patients? No one. Just my cat. And your cat or dog, if you bring him/her to AHC. Read Less

We've been taking our pets to The Animal Hospital since 1983, when we got married and got our first cat. Dr. Ward owned the practice then and when he retired we knew he'd left us in good hands. Dr. Dorsch and Dr. Anderson are both fine veterinarians. They lay out all the treatment possibilities and their costs and benefits, and then are respectful of the decision one makes. One of my cats is 19 and hyperthyroid. We are at the "keep the Elderly Gentleman comfortable" stage. He gets his daily methimazole, but no more. Both Dr. Dorsch and Dr. Anderson are fine with this. I have *never* felt pressured to do more or spend money on expensive treatments. Though I'm sure they prefer it when we bring in the Middle-Aged Lady (she's sweet and purrs), they have always been good with Elderly Gentleman Cat. Even though he is an evil beast when he is there. I know the time is not far off when we will have to send Elderly Gentleman Cat on his final journey. In 31 years we've had to have two cats euthanized. (One was 16 and had sarcoma, the other 12 with FIV.) I know that, when the time comes, both EGC and I will be treated with respect, love, and care. And, really, can one ask more from one's veterinarian? Read Less

Great vet and excellent care for my twenty-three year old kitty. My vet has gotten old and while on travel with my cat, he became very ill. It is hard to find a vet who will take on an elderly animal and even harder to find one who will treat your animal with respect. These people saved my kitty's life! They did a profile and set him up for treatment (antibiotic for urinary tract infection) and got him on the road to recovery. Since I am transitioning to this area over the next few years, I am moving my pet's care to these people. They are simply the best. To be willing to see an elderly cat from out of town and treat him says volumes about the quality of their practice. Read Less

I HIGHLY recommend The Animal Hospital Carrboro!!!!!

The location could not be more convenient. Read Less

Perhaps this clinic could resolve to stop ripping people off, and lying to people about their animal's health, for New Years! Otherwise, customers would be wise to patronize a different clinic in the area, that doesn't specialize in lying to customers, and actually cares about your animal's well being instead of cash. I have known several employees at this clinic, who quit because of their uncooth and dishonest way of practicing Animal Medicine! Read Less

Read Less
