The vets here always take great care with your furbabies. They also work with other vets if you have special needs. My animals still don't like going but I am thankful my babies are healthy and happy...and maybe a little happy. Its always a sad day when you have to euthanize one of your pets, recently I had to put my elderly (15 year old) dog Phoenix to sleep. Mayfair animal hospital was able to accommodate me within the hour, and ease both myself and my ex through the process.The vet offered alternative possibilities to euthanize my pet, however due to quality of life, mobility, and age factors, my mind had been made up and they respected my wishes. When a 15 year old dog goes blind, cant walk without falling, and refuses to go outside to the bathroom, it is simply time. Dr. Teri Smith is very thorough... would be a 5 but multiple vaccines (not all required) and frequency of tests/follow up seems like team too much (in regards to tests and costs). Awesome place and my dog is a walking super hero status post all his vaccines; just don't be afraid to opt out of some extra things offered or you'll break the bank. Read Less

I've been a client of Mayfair Animal Hospital for nearly 15 years. My dogs (and previously cats) have primarily seen Dr. John Santilli but I've seen other vets as well and could not be happier or more confident that my animals receive the best care possible. We've been through a myriad of health issues with multiple golden retrievers and Dr. Santilli's wisdom and experience have been invaluable to us and I cannot imagine going anywhere else. The staff, too, are wonderful. We moved to Canada for three years and I was delighted to see so many of the same faces when we moved back last year. What a relief to come back to Mayfair! There seems to be a bit of a thread regarding cost but I have yet to meet someone who says anything about having animals is cheap! There's no such thing as inexpensive health care for pets or for people and you get what you pay for. I have been going to Mayfair Animal Hospital for many years. On a scale of 0-10, Mayfair is definitely a 15! Upon walking in the door, you enter a very clean, cheerful environment. The staff greets you with a big smile and is immediately ready to address your issues.  There are no words to express the care and concern given regarding your precious pet. Dr. Bristol and all the doctors are superb, they treat your pet as if their own, their knowledge is unbelievable! From the groomer to all the staff your pet is # 1 concern.The hours are accommodating including Saturdays and later hours on Thursday evening. I have taken my four legged family members to Mayfair for over 20 years, and I could not be more pleased with the outstanding care they have provided. The veterinarians at this hospital are top knotch in every aspect. They are up to date on the the latest advances in Veterinary medicine and surgical procedures, and I take great comfort in knowing Mayfair is accredited with American Animal Hospital Association. This accreditation is so important, but not required by the state. If I were in search of a doctor for myself, I would want one that went above and beyond what is just required. And I certainly want that for my pets as well. Not only are the veterinarians knowledgeable, but they are extremely compassionate. They truly understand I am a pet parent not just a pet owner. The staff is also very loving, friendly, and efficient. Several of the vet techs have been there for many years and I see they love what they do. The receptionists always make us feel welcome. In a town such as Cary where there's an animal hospital on just about every corner, I'm so fortunate I found Mayfair 23 years ago. Most importantly, I know my pets are in the best care possible! The care and attention that your pets receive here is amazing. We currently have a 6 year old Golden Retriever and recently lost our 17 year old Persian due to acute renal failure. Because of Dr. Santilli and the other veterinarians at Mayfair we were able to help our Persian live an additional 2 years. All the veterinarians are great. We have always received excellent care for both our animals. The front staff is very friendly and greets you as you walk in the door. Raven, Mayfair's groomer, is excellent. She is able to groom our Golden and was able to take extra care with our Persian. I've been going to Mayfair for over 20 years. They have taken care of two of my dogs and I wouldn't go anywhere else. While I primarily see Dr. Susan Bristol, I've also seen Dr. Santilli, Dr. Foster, Dr. Smith and Dr. Rusnak and all of them are wonderful. Dr. Bristol has always treated my dogs as if they're her own and I trust her and all the other doctors here completely. Wonderful service. I took my dog there many, many years ago when another local vet had mishandled him and he was terrified of vets. My first requirement was that he never leave my sight. It myself, 2 vet techs and the vet to give him his first exam. Over the years, we were able to get down to three of us at a time and I grew comfortable letting him out of my sight. Care was always great, cautious and conservative. They never pushed services on me or told me what to do, but laid out all my options and worked with me to spread out services when I was laid off from work. My dog, a Shiba Inu, went to heaven recently at the age of 16.5 years old. I have no doubt that the care he received at Mayfair allowed him to live longer. Once or twice we thought we would lose him, and with their great care, he rebounded extremely well. He had his spirit and good care all the days of his life thanks to them.Read Less

Had recently moved to the area and wanted to find a local vet for our 10 year old shi tzu mix. First visit with Mayfair and they told us he should have some teeth pulled. Our previous vet in FL took great care of him and said his teeth were fine and that surgery was totally unnecessary. So, we told the vet at Mayfair that we'll think about it and felt pressured to do it. A week or so later our dog fell badly while running and we suspected a torn ACL. Again, went to Mayfair where the vet touched his leg for 2 minutes and told us it is definitely an ACL tear and that he should have surgery right away. We weren't given any other option. We left our dog at the vet and they said they'd do an xray to confirm the injury done to his knee and we went home to think about it and even though we scheduled the surgery we still weren't sure. Everything I read online said that smaller dogs rarely need surgery for an ACL tear and it's especially not recommended when the dog is older. When the vet called for us to pick him uo they said they had done the xray and surgery was needed. We picked him back up from the vet and asked about the xray results, they said they never did the xray.....so of course we start to have reservations about this vet and their practices. As one of the reviewers also said, they are all about the money and don't give you any sense that they're more interested in the well-being of your family pet. More research and second and third opinions received from other vets, and surgery now seemed like the last option we should be considering. We researched limiting our dog's activity and keeping him much less mobile so his knee could recover. Also, we found a wonderful vet in the area, Shiloh Animal Hospital, where they really spent time with our dog and discussed our options. They gave us a recovery program for him, doing range of motion exercises, and we ended up ordering an orthopedic brace to secure his knee as it built up scar tissue. 6 months later and a few check ups at Shiloh along the way, and he's walking freely on his injured leg and gaining his strength back. A torn ACL injury is a tough experience for all involved but I couldn't be happier that we found a great, trustworthy vet. Unfortunately, that vet wasn't Mayfair. They are clearly surgery trigger happy and just see an opportunity to make money rather than do what's best for your pet. Two visits to Mayfair and two uneccesary surgeries were pushed on us and our 15lb, 10 year old dog. Beware. Read Less

I went here for 8 months with my Black Lab. My lab was treated for weight gain. They  put my dog on a diet that continued to reduce the serving size monthly but my dog kept gaining weight. By the 7th month my dog that weighed 80 pounds was down to 1 cup of food a day! She was hungry all the time and finally took my dog back to my vet in another state we moved from. As soon as I walked through the door, he knew she had an over active thyroid that had been misdiagnosed by these quacks. This is very common in Labs and Retrievers and how could a vet not know this. This place almost killed my dog!! DO NOT GO HERE. I wouldn't take roadkill to these idiots. If you care about your pet, go any place other than here! Read Less

I have gone to Mayfair for 4 years and will never go back. There has definitely been turnover in staff that has changed the whole feeling of the place. The only caring and compassionate vet there is Dr. Bristol. That being said, the practice cares about $$$$, over charges and refuses to work with you on providing care that your animal needs. Beware that if you question anything you will not get a doctor but a 'practice manager' who doesn't even know your pet's name and could care less. The vet tech didn't once stroke or make friendly with my pet, a far cry from the warmth I have experienced in the past from the staff. This most recent experience, where they do not genuinely care about the well being of your animal was new to me at Mayfair. Extremely disappointed in their attitude and behavior. I brought my 11 1/2 year old maltese here a few days ago. We'd never been here before, but it was an emergency - something was wrong with my little guy. He'd been walking in circles, not eating or drinking, and seemed generally lethargic - I knew something wasn't right. I brought him in here at 4:30 and was able to see a vet within half an hour or so despite not having an appointment. I cannot remember the name of the woman vet I met with, nor the assistant - but both were very attentive and comforting. It became evident as the hours ticked by that my little guy was not going to make it through the day. I was grateful to not feel rushed and was allowed several moments of privacy to both collect myself and say goodbye to my dog. I was in the room while he was put to sleep, and was talked through the entire procedure as things occurred. When it was all over, I was allowed to stay as long as I needed in order to say my final goodbyes. Even though I lost one of my best friends that day, I was glad to learn of this animal hospital and will definitely be bringing my other dog there for all of her future needs. Read Less

I went here for a couple years but then left for a better clinic. The hospital is nice/average and the doctors are pretty good.  However, the prices are much higher than other highly rated and awesome pet hospitals. They are not very accomodating to working families who need to drop off pets for services instead of waiting at appointments (although they have this in limited form).Also the groomer, vet techs, and especially the staff are only so-so.  (The staff are really below par, actually.)  I've found another pet hospital on Chatham St. that has much better staff, really awesome doctors, great prices, and has all-together great services. I recently moved to the area and needed a vet for my dog who has several health issues. From the moment I walked in the door with him I felt pressured to spend/buy. At our former vets office I took him in for an injection every 25 days, it cost me less than $5 each visit, Mayfair cost almost $22 for the same service! If I had agreed to everything they wanted to do, I'm sure it would have been $700+! Ridiculous! Read Less

We take our cats here and have since we came to carry over a gazillion years ago.  They are really good with cats, providing calm careful care and are very sensitive to the inevitable time when you have to say good-bye to an older pet.  I trust their recommendations and don't find them pushy on services that are questionable. Mayfair is one of the vets I've been trying out in my search for a vet who wants to be a vet and not a hawker of every medical procedure invented. It's been a challenging quest. Mayfair is one of the only vets in the Raleigh area that's a member of the AAHA. In my experience with AAHA facilities there's always a consistency of treatment.  That doesn't mean I'll like the vet or even his or her recommendation but it does mean that in my experience there will be a consistent methodology in treatment protocols.  That consistency was true at Mayfair. The first vet I saw took lots of time to get to know my pet and recommended various alternatives to treating an issue common in an elderly pet -- starting with the simple and natural.  When I made another visit unrelated to the first several weeks later and saw yet another vet, the second doc mirrored the same concern and thoroughness of the first.  This one even took time to listen to my concerns about the recommended treatment options.Although I haven't settled on a  vet or vet practice yet, I'll definitely keep Mayfair in mind. The only negatives in my limited experience were a  noisy waiting room both times I was there (morning and late afternoon), techs who seemed rushed, and others who seemed in a constant state of scrambling. I just moved here from Chicago a week ago.  Our puppy has had stomach issues over the last week, which we have attributed to stress of moving and seeing all the moving boxes...so we figured it would be good to go ahead and get him checked out and establish a relationship with a vet.  My friend recommended Mayfair and said her parents have been coming here for 20 years.  With that track record, I decided to check them out.  I called on a Thursday morning and they were able to get me on Friday morning with Dr. Bristol. I was very happy with the visit.  Melissa (vet assistant) was friendly and answered all our questions before Dr. Bristol came in.  Dr. Briston was very thorough and was good with our puppy.  We never felt rushed. She found that he had a slight bacterial infection so put him on an antibotic.  She gave us lots of good information, including dental cleaning, ear cleaning, and trainer recommendations.  Definitely will keep Dr. Bristol as our vet. I had been going to Mayfair for 9+ years and left recently to go to a vet with more personal attention. I changed to a vet where I'm not a just number. My last visit to the Mayfair office convinced me to leave. I went in to pick up some medication for my dogs and asked to speak with a vet and was told they were all too busy to answer my questions.
