This vet is AMAZING!!!!! I will be making this our regular vet , dr grey is phenomenal I recently moved to Charlotte from Pennsylvania . My cat Pepper had gone to the emergency vet 2 times back in my hometown for asthma attacks & was diagnosed with asthma ! I did lots of testing back home like 1 thousand dollars worth Today I went to dr grey to get pepper treated for asthma & she was very reasonable ! I told her I was worried about Cost & she created an amazing plan for me to reduce asthma triggers at home (like start using a special kind of litter and litter box) and no windows open etc. and put pepper on steroids to reduce inflammation! Just for a short period of time to see how he does , she also made sure it was liquid since pepper doesn’t take to pills. No inhaler yet unless it continues after changing environment & steroids ! My visit was $60 totally reasonable (not including steroids) She was also very nice ! Amazing experience pepper is on the mend! I’m so grateful they were so reasonable & didn’t push to do testing again and that pepper won’t suffer Read Less

Incredible staff. We've taken generations of dogs to Animal Medical for years and have had nothing but great experiences. We also utilize the grooming, boarding and day care facilities frequently. It is so nice to know that your dog is at a facility that staffs great vets 24 hours. If anything were to ever happen they immediately pull them to the medical side. The boarding and day care staff are amazing. They love our dogs and know them well. On the medical side we see Dr. Bridgette Andersen who we absolutely adore. She is so kind and patient which is saying a lot because we have a very wiggly Pug. We are so pleased to call Animal Medical our dogs only veterinarian. They definitely go above and beyond. We got our new puppy on Thursday evening from the Charlotte Animal Control Shelter. Although he got a clean bill of health while he was there, he came down with kennel cough a few days later. We were able to make an appt on Sunday, and received really great care while we were there. They were patient with his anxiety, and were able to diagnose him and get us the meds we needed. If I could give them less than 1 star I would. Flash back to January, we rescued a dog (she showed up on our front porch) so we brought her to get checked out and see if she had a microchip. We brought her in and the staff was great, the ladies who helped us were friendly and kind to our dog. Which is obviously not what the 1 star review is about, bear with me. After trying to up-sell us on a full round of shots (even after we said that we are trying to find her owners and would possibly not be able to keep her) blood work, etc we still walked out spending close to $200 on a dog that wasn't even ours. That again is not an issue. Flash forward a bit to 2 weeks later, Misha (the dog who we ended up keeping) got into some grapes while we were at the gym so we rushed her to Animal Medical Hospital. They induced vomiting, let us know how many grapes came up and told us they recommended she stay for 3 days and go on an IV for that length of time to make sure her kidneys are functioning properly. They also ran her blood multiple times per day at their full service, in house lab. We obviously wanted her to have her best chance at a full recovery if she had any kidney issues from the grapes, we agreed to pay approximately $1,200 for this service. The staff member in charge of going over the itemized report of what we were paying was unsure of more than half the costs and unable to explain them to us even after speaking to a vet. We however STILL agreed to pay it because even though we had only had our dog for 2 weeks, she was still our responsibility and our baby. Side Note: My fiance is in the medical industry, administers IVs daily and knows the cost of supplies and we are thoroughly appalled at how taken advantage of we were. Supplies (including the "medication" which was potassium and saline) itself would cost LESS THAN $50 at the drip rate they had her on. We were charged nearly $1,200 for a three day stay. Also, for blood work - the COST of the blood panels they ran is $1.20 (yes, one dollar and twenty cents) for humans, we paid $95 each time. She pulled through just fine and has had no kidney function issues. Flash forward again and we find out Misha is pregnant... really, quite pregnant... we could SEE puppies moving on the outside of her stomach! Uhm, dogs are only pregnant for 2 months (63 days usually). So, when she was in the hospital for 3 days is right around the time that the embryos can be felt when palpating a dog's abdomen. Yep, you guessed it - they didn't catch it even though they palpated her abdomen multiple times during this stay. We aren't just guessing that they did this, I had them send over the almost 30 pages of medical records and we combed through them! Misha had 6 healthy and precious puppies (she actually had them the day she was scheduled to be spayed which we scheduled merely days after adopting her) even without proper prenatal care which we could have had if they would have figured out she was pregnant. Flash forward to TODAY, the day she's getting spayed. We haven't written negative reviews even with the high price of fairly mediocre service because we felt there was no need to, we can simply take our business elsewhere. No. We went back through her records and my fiance (who again, interprets blood work and is in the medical field) saw on her blood work her hematocrit, hemoglobin and red blood cell counts were low. So to anyone not in the medical field you're thinking what does that mean? Well, simply put she's anemic. Her blood is thin, doesn't coagulate as well and she has a higher chance of bleeding out during surgery. OH, AWESOME. Thanks for telling us guys... Another simple mistake? NO. It's in BOLD on her blood work AND there's a "(L)" next to it saying the reading is LOW for all three counts. Sooooo, today after her spay appt the vet said she had excessive bleeding and had to have staples put in as well as the surgical glue. Long story short, their staff is kind and attentive BUT the care itself is mediocre and WAY overpriced. One last bit of info, we had her groomed with them as well and our next groomers (because, obviously we switched) were appalled that they SHAVED a husky who's undercoat was not matted. Her hair can possibly never grow back the same because of the groomer's poor job. She even told my fiance that they don't shave huskies and then proceeded to shave her. Read Less

I have been coming to animal medical hospital for the last 10 years or so but recently when dropping my dog off for grooming I was very disappointed with the service and my dogs well-being. The check-in and pick-up process takes much longer than necessary and waited 30 minutes for my dog to finally come out. My dog who is the sweetest sheltie ever looked utterly traumatized. His eyes were bloodshot, drooling, panting, and he never acts like this. I was truly concerned for him. When he was home he drank lots of water and was not acting like himself. I feel like he was mistreated and it makes me not want to ever return to animal medical hospital. Also the customer service in general needs to get it together, the drop off should not take 20 minutes+ as it also made me late to work. I think it may be time to find a new vet, would not recommend! Absolutely fantastic. This is a well organized place and the staff are friendly and awesome. My dog is very particular, and he loves to board here. This is the only place he comes back from after boarding and is his normal self (the staff actually really do love the animals). Also, Amanda has groomed our pup a couple times and she has done a fantastic job. She did everything we asked for how we asked, followed all of our specific requests, and he was done way earlier than expected even though he is very work-intensive. Thank you guys!! Read Less

Although they were very sweet and kind I really feel like all they care about is the money. I brought my dog in after she was attacked by another dog and they said she would die if she didn’t get surgery and the surgery cost 2,569 bucks. Who has that kind of money sitting around and they wanted half of that in order to do the surgery so since I didn’t have the money the only option was for them to put her to sleep. If you don’t have the money right then and there then I advise you not to take your animal there because most likely only way your waking out with your pet is if you give them money. Read Less

Dr. Thomas takes really great care of our Eliza. Not only do we trust them with her veterinary care, but they do a great job grooming her - which is no small feat with a Bernese Mtn Dog. Our baby Sydney just had emergency surgery performed by Dr. Goode. Our baby got attacked by another dog. The staff was very nice and friendly. The facility was clean. Dr. Goode explained the plan of care, diagnosis and prognosis entirely . She answered all of our questions and never rushed. Upon discharge Dr. Richter took time to tell us about Sydney’s medications and what to expect. She was very informative and thorough. Excellent service! I recently moved to the area, and after going to 3 other vets in Rock Hill I was frustrated! My dog Dexter was not putting any weight on one of his back legs. I called AMH around 7:45am on Monday morning and I was surprised when the receptionist (Kaitlyn I think was her name and she was so helpful) told me there was an opening at 3pm. The front desk staff was friendly and I noticed while waiting they greeted every person who walked in the door. The wait time to be taken back to the exam room was not long. Dr. Blackburn has an excellent bedside manner and answered all my questions. Both Dr. Blackburn and her assistant (Victoria) made me feel comfortable. I finally found a vet who I feel like I can trust and is knowledgeable! I will definitely bring Dexter back to AMH! Read Less

A few weeks ago when I brought in my 12 year old Yorkie who was in respiratory distress the techs and the vet who helped him and me and my daughters were awesome. Love AMH and have good experiences there with our two prior dogs and now with our little Darby! The only reason that I can’t give it five stars is just that sometimes the wait time is a little ridiculous - I know it all depends on what’s going on and how busy they are, but sometimes a simple drop off takes 20 minutes when no one else is there and they have a lot of staff around... other than that, we love the vets and the boarding team - good people! This facility was amazing. My dog was attacked by another dog and I had to rush her in there right after it happened. This was the day after it snowed and I was praying they were open. I called ahead and they were expecting me. They took my dog back right away and tended to her injuries. She had a broken leg and puncture wounds, they were able to splint it and refer me to another animal hospital for the surgery that same day. The doctor called a week later to check on Carly and that made me very happy. I was a wreck and they were just wonderful informing me of what was going on and taking care of my dog. An amazing hospital on many levels. All of my pets are treated here and I don’t see that ever changing. From the moment you walk through the front door there is someone with a smile waiting to help you. The lobby is always clean and once you get called back into a exam room you find that the Doctors are smart, the technicians are hot, and the assistants are caring. It is also a comfort knowing that anytime I have to leave town and board my pets at their pet resort, that there is always medical staff in the building to keep a eye on my animals. Over the past few years we have had positive experiences with the different vets on staff.  The front reception and vet techs have always been friendly and accommodating which I feel is very important.  The hours are extremely convenient and allow us to keep our dogs happy and healthy. I'd never been here before but my exotic shorthair, Autumn, was very sick and I needed a second opinion. I was seen immediately on a Sunday morning. Dr. Robert Brady was so kind and compassionate with news we weren't wanting to hear, especially with my 9 year old daughter in the room. He was careful with his words and very sincere. Took my dog in around 11pm for an emergency. Staff was very friendly and took Gonzo back for exam right away. I was happy to find a place that has care available 24/7. As an update to this review, Gonzo had to have a very extensive surgery and the staff kept me updated throughout the entire process. We had a horrible emergency last night when our 4 year old cat was succumbing to heart disease. We had just taken him to our regular vet for an ultrasound the previous night. We were going to begin him on medication, but he had a horrible clot that took away his legs. He was in severe pain and no pain medication would work. We realized we weren't going to get those final months we had hoped for with him, and were forced to make a horrible decision. With no plan for home euthanasia, we called AMH. I alerted them of his status and that we needed to tend to him immediately. With a couple of details, they went ahead and booked us a room so that we could get straight in there.Once in the room, they went over all of our options, assured us we were making the right call, and were with us every step of the way. I cannot thank the staff enough for helping him. It is a horrible ordeal to go through, but I hope he was able to be free of pain at the end. Read Less

I was pleased not only with the care the doctors took in determining the best plan for my Asher when he decided to eat string, but were patient with me for my nerves as I have lost a pet in the past to a linear foreign body. I have been a client of Animal Medical Hospital for almost 10 years now. I had an animal emergency 9 years ago, and had to make a very late night visit - they were one of the only animal hospitals open. Unfortunately, I lost my precious little cat. The staff treated me so compassionately in how they cared for my cat and me as well. They sent me a beautiful sympathy card and little paw print decoration, and even made a donation on behalf of my pet to a University Veterinarian Department. That was such a thoughtful and compassionate thing to do, that I immediately began taking all of my animals there, and made them my regular animal hospital. That was 9 years ago, and I don't regret the decision. The entire staff there, from the front desk representatives, to the Vet techs and Veterinarians are all so very nice and give the best care. Everyone there is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend everyone make Animal Medical Hospital their primary care facility for all of your precious pets. They are the greatest! Read Less

My dog became very ill at night. I brought her here to their emergency room. We made the decision to euthanize her due to her age and the problem she had. The staff was so very kind and sensitive given the situation. I can't tell you how much empathy they showed and I appreciate it very very much. Now the only issue I had is with the business management decisions. I understand emergency services are expensive and I expected that. I did not expect to be charged $35 for a box to take her body home in. I think the business office should reconsider making profit in that way. The box was a plain white cardboard box. I don't know what else to say about that other than bring something from home with you if you think your pet might not make it. Read Less

Sasha is a very caring 12yo cat who became stressed out when her 17yo partner in crime pasted away from cancer. She became very depressed and then stressed out a month later when a new adult cat was added to the home to help her not be lonely. Due to the mourning and stress she became lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink for 2 days. We rescued our 8 month old dog from the Humane Society, who provided vouchers to this clinic. I was originally pleased with the service and how they took care of our pup during her appointments. Unfortunately, we had to put our dog through medically necessary tail amputation. The quote that was provided seemed fair and I was told there may be an additional $60 for some medicine. Fair enough. However, when I picked her up, the final cost was $200 more! When I asked why the huge discrepancy between the quote and final cost they told me it didn't include several things, such as a blood test. So my words to the weary who have to put their pet through surgery here, be prepared for it to cost a great deal more than you expect. Edit: They have since called me and apologized for the lack of transparency in the costs and were willing to refund some of the unexpected costs that we experience. The surgery was still pricey, which is expected, but at least they have good customer service.Read Less

I have been taking my dog here for the last year and seen a couple different doctors. Everyone is very nice and helpful from the front desk staff to the doctors and assistants. I have had my fair share of vet hospitals that rake you over the coals with the prices and I have not found a better place as far as price goes. The doctors even tell you how you can get certain products for cheaper than they sell at the hospital! Plus they price match! They are not trying to take advantage of you. We have a 16 year old dog who had only been boarded once previously so we were a bit nervous about doing it again. Plus with his advanced age, we weren't sure he could handle it and decided their medical boarding would be the best option. Everyone who works there put us at ease and quelled any apprehension we had. We boarded Max for 2 nights. After the first night we called for a check up and they were great about discussing how he was, what they had been doing. We were really put at ease. Knowing he had 24 hour care was important for us. Our sweet Rescue who is 15 is a inpatient in their ICU at this time. She is a little better but not out of the woods yet. Also had to bring our Kallie in this morning because of a problem with one of her paws. I can't say how well the veterinarians and staff has treated us the past couple days. I know they are doing everything they can to help our girl and there is no way to predict the outcome but we are confident in the care Rescue is receiving. I have been going to this facility with my cats for a few years. I really really like the people who work there. The front desk people are friendly; the vet technicians are too. And Dr. Ashley Gray is simply excellent. She wants to be there, she knows her stuff, she is excellent at customer service and explaining medical stuff. I've been taking my Aussie, Hudson, here since he was a puppy. I've seen multiple vets here over the course of two years and every time I walk out feeling my dog and I received the utmost respectful, compassionate, humane and professional care. I've taken him here for routine physicals, vaccines and even emergencies including a laceration repair that Hudson had to go under anesthesia. Sometimes I must admit you do have to wait but you have to take into consideration that the vets are taking care of animals in the same respect you would want your animal to be taken care of. Was highly recommend to me. Took my dog for a well check up and also boarded my dog there. No problem with that. The problem is they are extremely slow to approve a prescription for heartworm medicine. I placed a online order from their website on August 19th. I was informed that the order would not ship until approved by the vet. I called the vet on the 19th and I was assured that they would approve the order that day. On August 22 I called to see if the order shipped I was told it was still pending approval. I called the vet back and was assured that they would call the pharmacy and get it taken care of. I stated several times that this had to be taken care of since my dog had just completed heart worm treatment and that he need to take this pill on the 27th of August. On August 23 I called the online pharmacy and the order was still pending they informed me that they had reached out to the vet office on the 22 and that they were told someone would call them back On the 23 I made several calls to both the online pharmacy and animal medical. And I'm STILL WAITING for approval.Read Less

I LOVE this vet clinic! I've met both Dr. Laity & Dr. Tarantino & they both are just so, so awesome. The staff is always courteous & they love my dog just as much as I do. My husband, Melvin, and I moved to Charlotte in December of 2008, along with our wire-haired Dachshund, "Fritzi", and our full-size collie/Akita mix, "Barney Fife". I think it was early in 2009 that our little Fritzi became extremely ill one evening and we sought a 24-hour animal hospital. We came to you at Animal Medical Hospital. Dr. Kerri (Sheehan) Blackburn administered to his needs and found that he had pneumonia. He was hospitalized in intensive care that night and stayed several days...a very sick doggie. Thankfully, due to Dr. Blackburn's skill and the intensive care staff, Fritzi came back to us and lived a wonderful life when he finally died at the age of 18, two years ago. Two weeks ago, it became evident that our precious, fifteen-and-a-half year old, Barney, with severely arthritic legs and declining stamina, needed to be put to sleep. Life was difficult for him. Also, assisting him to get up off the floor...all 115 pounds of him...was becoming increasingly detrimental to our health and backs, as we are seniors in our early seventies. On Sunday, March 13th, Dr. Blackburn and her staff... characteristically so caring and loving to our pets, gently assisted Barney in his "journey to heaven". He had a comfortable, peaceful passing, and I can't begin to express how grateful I am to her and those who worked with our Barney. My husband, Melvin, and I are so extremely grateful to all of you..to Peggy, and all the wonderful receptionists too at the desk, who have always been so helpful and gracious to us for all of these years. You run a wonderful operation at AMH and I will always recommend you to my pet owner friends. Thank you, Dr. Blackburn, for being such a highly skilled vet and the dearest of people. I had to go to a vet on a sunday for my little dog who was having trouble with her legs. The doctor quickly was able to diagnose her problem and offered several treatment options. I never felt pressured to do any procedure but still felt an X-ray was the best option. The doctor called me promptly when I left to give me the X-ray results and offered more advice. I was 8 months pregnant when we brought our 6 year old German shepherd to AMH for limping. He had been limping for a little over a week and we had always been customers of AMH and so we called at first to get some advice and were able to get a vet on the phone. The vet said that it could be a torn ligament as this is common in young active dogs (and Bishop was very active!) and that if he was otherwise acting normal, a few days of rest might help but that if it didn't improve we should bring him in. Needless to say he did not improve. We brought him to AMH. Dr. Tisdelle did a very thorough exam and he was repeatedly painful when she stretched his knee. She was worried it could be a ligament tear but since she could not feel any swelling or other changes wanted to take an X-ray for more information. Fortunately, she said, all of their X-rays are read by a radiologist because the radiologist noticed a small change that might mean he had cancer. Both my husband and I (and I think the vet) were very surprised since he was only 6. The vet seemed very understanding about the cost of more X-rays but she felt strongly that we should take the radiologists advice and look in his chest for the source of cancer. Unfortunately bishop had cancer all throughout his lungs and suspected on his heart too. We were so shocked because he had seemed like his normal self other than the limp. Dr. Tisdelle was so empathetic when she gave us the news and allowed us to ask all the questions we needed. Bishop's cancer was terminal. We took him home to spend our last days with him but he passed suddenly the very next day when the tumor bled (which the vet also warned us about). I'm so glad that we knew what to expect before it happened. We never would have known and would have been completely blindsided had Dr. Tisdelle not encouraged us to move forward with tests. I know veterinary care can be expensive but I trust the doctors at AMH to make solid decisions for my pet and for me, it is worth every penny to know someone has my dog's best interest at heart. We miss our Bishop so much but this could have been a much more scary scenario had we not been prepared. Luckily, he passed peacefully in our home with us by his side.Read Less

Overall Animal Hospital is great. Very clean environment, friendly staff all around, and a really nice facility...they have turf outside and fake fire hydrants and dog friendly objects like that. The vet was super nice and I felt comfortable bringing my dog there. The only downfall is that I went there for something simple for my dog and left paying over 100$. Which I guess is expected at the vet. It's kind of like going to get your oil changed, you don't really know what they're talking about so you just agree to everything blindly. And I've done this in the past but it wasn't as expensive. Tucker, my dog, ended up getting a few shots and heart worm prevention stuff which he's gotten before and it was much cheaper. Maybe because it was a different location in a different state but regardless I was pretty sip rises how much I had to pay. But regardless, it was a good experience and I'll probably bring Tucker back when he needs his check-up again. Read Less
