Our mission statement at Armstrong Animal Clinic is to "provide high-quality veterinary care in a warm and friendly environment." We carry this out by:

Dr. George Armstrong established this practice in 1944. He was a 1941 graduate of Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine and a native of Belmont, North Carolina. The original location of the practice facility was on Elizabeth Avenue and Cecil Street, but Dr. Armstrong was forced to relocate to this location in 1978 when the campus of Central Piedmont Community College expanded and took over his property.
Then, the practice was owned by Dr. Charles B. Williston, a 1978 graduate of Louisiana State University and a native of Oxford, Mississippi. Dr. Charles joined the practice upon graduation from veterinary school in May 1978. He became the sole owner in 1980 when Dr. Armstrong’s failing health forced him to retire. The name of the practice was unchanged, a tribute to the legacy established by its beloved founder.
In 2015 Dr. Charles and his wife, Dr. Jane, retired after 35 wonderful years as the owners and veterinarians at Armstrong Animal Clinic. Dr. David Gallagher and his wife, Dr. Marnie Gallagher, are now the current owners of Armstrong Animal Clinic. Dr. Marnie is a veterinarian at Mint Hill Animal Hospital, but she stops by Armstrong from time to time. Dr. Kat Ahern joined the Armstrong team in August 2015, having moved from rural small animal practice in Gaston Co. NC.

All of our experiences at Armstrong Animal Clinic have been great! We have a lot of pets so seem to be there often and every visit we leave feeling like we received only the best care. The doctors take the time to answer our questions and explain issues in terms we can understand, present us with options for treatment, follow up with results when they say they will and overall treat us with respect and our pets with great care. The entire staff is friendly and understanding. The prices are fair and reasonable. We are able to get appointments when we need them and they’ve even gotten us in last minute. Thank you!- we couldn’t be happier with the service we, or our furbabes, have received.

It's hard to find a vet you feel that you can trust -- someone who will take good care of your pets but not make you feel like a jerk if they're not eating Nutro or Blue Buffalo and are a bit over due...
It's hard to find a vet you feel that you can trust -- someone who will take good care of your pets but not make you feel like a jerk if they're not eating Nutro or Blue Buffalo and are a bit over due for a dental. I firmly believe in balancing empathy with pragmatism. If I won the lottery, yes my four-legged crew would have their own little spa with perpetually sunny windows and water fountains and butterflies and organic treats and all those good things and plus all the tooth brushing and nail trimming and blood testing they need. That said, I haven't won the lottery, so I'm just your typical American trying to get by. I feel like the team at Armstrong gets me. They've been wonderfully kind and helpful, gently pestering me when a visit is due. I love being able to schedule via email and getting text reminders -- helps keep me knowing which way I'm going. The office is always clean and done nicely (but not so nicely you cough at your final bill). Staff is always friendly. Care has always been on point (though blessedly we haven't needed anything beyond the routine - except for that one time the cat scratched the dog in the eyeball and we had to go to the emergency vet at 2:30 a.m. but that's another story). I do wish that the front door was a little differently configured an the waiting area just slightly cordoned off -- lever style handle would help those of us with hands full and a hip wall inside the waiting room in front of the door would give a moment of separation between whoever is walking in and whoever is checking out (though it's never been particularly busy when I've visited). Point being -- if your animal is notably aggressive or scared, you might want to open the door and peek in on your own before bringing in your critter.

This place is amazing!!!! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. I have a sweet little puppy who is 6 months old and I had been trying to decide between the different vet offices in my area and I'm positive that I chose the best one.
I had some concerns about my puppies health and they got me an appointment the very next day. They did all the tests necessary to determine if he had any medical issue and they explained the tests to me before hand and got me the results before I left the office that day. Turns out my little guy was fine but it was a great feeling knowing that they took all of my concerns seriously.
The next day I received an email from the vet making sure my pup was doing well after getting his vaccines and that he wasn't having any issues taking the medication that they sent me home with to give him. It meant so much to me that they wanted to follow up with me to make sure everything was going well.

It was a friendly atmosphere. The vet and staff were friendly enough. I feel I was grossly overcharged for a routine visit. I paid over $100 to be told what I already knew. At the end of the first visit that I would not be charged for the follow up. This was a blatant lie as I was charged for a 30 sec visit from the vet telling me that my dog was better. Looking back, I should’ve just stayed home. I recommend finding a vet that won’t lie to your face and charge you an arm and a leg for something another vet would do for a fraction of the price. STAY AWAY.

Our dog is very afraid of the vet. She is the least afraid here of anywhere we've taken her. The staff are all kind and very understanding. We really do love this place and plan to be long term customers.
The only thing we've been dissatisfied with was that our dog had an 8Ã8 patch shaved from her back that was unnecessary. Had they communicated that her fur was "too thick" before her procedure we could have had her groomed to have avoided her being disfigured for the next 6 months. In the scheme of things of things this is trivial but we just hoped to help other pet parents avoid the headache of being harassed by nosey neighbors and rendered unable to take their dogs in public without being pestered by everyone with whom you cross paths.

I have been coming to Armstrong animal clinic for 35 years. They have cared for 9 of my sweet pets. Drs Charles and Jane Williston were the best and have passed the practice on to Dr. Gallagher and his wife with the addition of Dr. Ahern. I have been very pleased with the transition and the new care of my loves. This has been seamless and I am very happy to continue coming to such a wonderful veterinarian home and family!!!

Just finished up our little kitty's first vet visit, and I couldn't be happier with Armstrong Animal Clinic! The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and put all of my concerns at ease. The Vet Dr. was very relaxed and helpful and discussed everything we need going forward to take care of him(and prevent things like fleas and worms). Can't forget the price too - I haven't owned an animal in a long time, but the price was really reasonable! I was out of there with worm checks, physical exam, vaccinations, etc for under $100! Will definitely be returning throughout the long life of our new family member!

I love this place. I was explained everything when they found a certain parasite in my dog. They showed and explained the testing process. Then they step by step explained the medication and even demonstrated how to deliver the medication for me. That was amazing for me because, while I have grown up with dogs my whole life, this was the first dog that was truly mine and I was responsible for in the sense of bills and other such things. I was really nervous then the told me about the parasite, but I was ready to conquer it when I left. I always walk out feeling much more confident about whatever is happening to my dog.

I can't say enough positive words to describe the love that oozes from the beautiful souls whom work here. I recently had to set my 10 1/2 year old Great Dane, Iko free. It was one of the most difficult day I've had. When I took Iko in a month prior, it was the first time I met Dr. Gallagher. I told him why I loved Dr. Charles and Dr. Gallagher treated me the same... Like I was his daughter. He gently told me the truth but, didn't try to blow smoke up my butt and nickel and dime me. I received the sweetest card from them after her passing forward. The entire staff wrote their condolences, saying personal messages. Not just signatures. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE! Iko will forever be in my heart and I will always take any of my furry babies to Armstrong Animal Clinic because they really do care.

Have been going here for 6-7 years and really like this vet. The Williston's are genuinely concerned about our kitty and I never get the feeling that they are recommending services just to make an extra buck. Our kitty is now a senior citizen and meows all the time, they have spent ample time discussing this with us in an honest effort to help Kitty feel more happy and peaceful. Some things have worked and some not, but they are willing to just keep trying. That's really nice.

We recently took our new puppy to Armstrong for her first checkup and loved the experience. The nurses had reviewed our information before meeting with us, which was very helpful. The same for the vet who saw us, Jane. Each person seemed genuinely interested in our puppy and what we were experiencing. You can tell when someone is pretending to be interested -- and this was no act. We were very impressed that they were the first to bring up after hours care recommendations and explained the nearby options. We think Armstrong is a trustworthy clinic and recommend a visit.

Armstrong Animal Clinic has been my primary veterinarian for the past 5 years or so. They have reasonable pricing for shots and vaccinations. My 2 cats and dog come here once a year for their annual check up visit, and rabies boosters, etc.The staff here are so sweet! My pets are greeted with so much love and affection. Doctors, nurses, and assistants are all patient and caring. You can tell everyone here has a genuine compassion for all animals.However, Armstrong is not the ideal place for complicated issues and they are not 24/7. But, when my cat was recently diagnosed with complicated internal issues, Dr. Charles B. Williston,spoke with me several times on the phone to provide honest concern, suggestions, and recommendations. He was open and told me that my cat's complications were beyond his expertise and recommended a nearby specialist, whose opinion and skill he trusted. This meant a lot to be, especially since our conversations were off the clock and he didn't make any money off the situation.

We have been going to Armstrong Animal Clinic for almost 15 years. We arrived from NYC with 2 cats, and since then have had one dog and now, another dog. All have received great care from the doctors and staff. I have especially appreciated the straightforward discussions with the doctors over the years. They have never recommended an expensive procedure without listing out the pros and cons, and there have been several times when they have not done a procedure just to do it. The staff has been so loving to our pets--even the ones that were difficult to love. We highly recommend Armstrong and the Willistons.

Dr. Charles joined the practice upon graduation from veterinary school in May 1978. He became the sole owner in 1980 when Dr. Armstrong’s failing health forced him to retire. The name of the practice was unchanged, a tribute to the legacy established by its beloved founder.
In 2015 Dr. Charles and his wife, Dr. Jane, retired after 35 wonderful years as the owners and veterinarians at Armstrong Animal Clinic. Dr. David Gallagher and his wife, Dr. Marnie Gallagher, are now the current owners of Armstrong Animal Clinic. Dr. Marnie is a veterinarian at Mint Hill Animal Hospital, but she stops by Armstrong from time to time. Dr. Kat Ahern joined the Armstrong team in August 2015, having moved from rural small animal practice in Gaston Co. NC.

All of our experiences at Armstrong Animal Clinic have been great! We have a lot of pets so seem to be there often and every visit we leave feeling like we received only the best care. The doctors take the time to answer our questions and explain issues in terms we can understand, present us with options for treatment, follow up with results when they say they will and overall treat us with respect and our pets with great care. The entire staff is friendly and understanding. The prices are fair and reasonable. We are able to get appointments when we need them and they’ve even gotten us in last minute. Thank you!- we couldn’t be happier with the service we, or our furbabes, have received.

It's hard to find a vet you feel that you can trust -- someone who will take good care of your pets but not make you feel like a jerk if they're not eating Nutro or Blue Buffalo and are a bit over due for a dental. I firmly believe in balancing empathy with pragmatism. If I won the lottery, yes my four-legged crew would have their own little spa with perpetually sunny windows and water fountains and butterflies and organic treats and all those good things and plus all the tooth brushing and nail trimming and blood testing they need. That said, I haven't won the lottery, so I'm just your typical American trying to get by. I feel like the team at Armstrong gets me. They've been wonderfully kind and helpful, gently pestering me when a visit is due. I love being able to schedule via email and getting text reminders -- helps keep me knowing which way I'm going. The office is always clean and done nicely (but not so nicely you cough at your final bill). Staff is always friendly. Care has always been on point (though blessedly we haven't needed anything beyond the routine - except for that one time the cat scratched the dog in the eyeball and we had to go to the emergency vet at 2:30 a.m. but that's another story). I do wish that the front door was a little differently configured an the waiting area just slightly cordoned off -- lever style handle would help those of us with hands full and a hip wall inside the waiting room in front of the door would give a moment of separation between whoever is walking in and whoever is checking out (though it's never been particularly busy when I've visited). Point being -- if your animal is notably aggressive or scared, you might want to open the door and peek in on your own before bringing in your critter.

This place is amazing!!!! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. I have a sweet little puppy who is 6 months old and I had been trying to decide between the different vet offices in my area and I'm positive that I chose the best one.
I had some concerns about my puppies health and they got me an appointment the very next day. They did all the tests necessary to determine if he had any medical issue and they explained the tests to me before hand and got me the results before I left the office that day. Turns out my little guy was fine but it was a great feeling knowing that they took all of my concerns seriously.
The next day I received an email from the vet making sure my pup was doing well after getting his vaccines and that he wasn't having any issues taking the medication that they sent me home with to give him. It meant so much to me that they wanted to follow up with me to make sure everything was going well.

It was a friendly atmosphere. The vet and staff were friendly enough. I feel I was grossly overcharged for a routine visit. I paid over $100 to be told what I already knew. At the end of the first visit that I would not be charged for the follow up. This was a blatant lie as I was charged for a 30 sec visit from the vet telling me that my dog was better. Looking back, I should’ve just stayed home. I recommend finding a vet that won’t lie to your face and charge you an arm and a leg for something another vet would do for a fraction of the price. STAY AWAY.

The only thing we've been dissatisfied with was that our dog had an 8Ã8 patch shaved from her back that was unnecessary. Had they communicated that her fur was "too thick" before her procedure we could have had her groomed to have avoided her being disfigured for the next 6 months. In the scheme of things of things this is trivial but we just hoped to help other pet parents avoid the headache of being harassed by nosey neighbors and rendered unable to take their dogs in public without being pestered by everyone with whom you cross paths.

I have been coming to Armstrong animal clinic for 35 years. They have cared for 9 of my sweet pets. Drs Charles and Jane Williston were the best and have passed the practice on to Dr. Gallagher and his wife with the addition of Dr. Ahern. I have been very pleased with the transition and the new care of my loves. This has been seamless and I am very happy to continue coming to such a wonderful veterinarian home and family!!!

The professionalism, compassion and just-plain-friendliness are a constant every single time. I've never experienced anything like it at any other vet. Dr. Gallagher explains everything in such detail and answers all of our questions - he's never rushed, even though I know he's extremely busy. And when he says he'll call with results/news - he always (always) does. He's called me hours after they've closed on Saturday because he's still there working. Just finished up our little kitty's first vet visit, and I couldn't be happier with Armstrong Animal Clinic! The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and put all of my concerns at ease. The Vet Dr. was very relaxed and helpful and discussed everything we need going forward to take care of him(and prevent things like fleas and worms). Can't forget the price too - I haven't owned an animal in a long time, but the price was really reasonable! I was out of there with worm checks, physical exam, vaccinations, etc for under $100! Will definitely be returning throughout the long life of our new family member!

I love this place. I was explained everything when they found a certain parasite in my dog. They showed and explained the testing process. Then they step by step explained the medication and even demonstrated how to deliver the medication for me. That was amazing for me because, while I have grown up with dogs my whole life, this was the first dog that was truly mine and I was responsible for in the sense of bills and other such things. I was really nervous then the told me about the parasite, but I was ready to conquer it when I left. I always walk out feeling much more confident about whatever is happening to my dog.

I can't say enough positive words to describe the love that oozes from the beautiful souls whom work here. I recently had to set my 10 1/2 year old Great Dane, Iko free. It was one of the most difficult day I've had. When I took Iko in a month prior, it was the first time I met Dr. Gallagher. I told him why I loved Dr. Charles and Dr. Gallagher treated me the same... Like I was his daughter. He gently told me the truth but, didn't try to blow smoke up my butt and nickel and dime me. I received the sweetest card from them after her passing forward. The entire staff wrote their condolences, saying personal messages. Not just signatures. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE! Iko will forever be in my heart and I will always take any of my furry babies to Armstrong Animal Clinic because they really do care.

Have been going here for 6-7 years and really like this vet. The Williston's are genuinely concerned about our kitty and I never get the feeling that they are recommending services just to make an extra buck. Our kitty is now a senior citizen and meows all the time, they have spent ample time discussing this with us in an honest effort to help Kitty feel more happy and peaceful. Some things have worked and some not, but they are willing to just keep trying. That's really nice.

We recently took our new puppy to Armstrong for her first checkup and loved the experience. The nurses had reviewed our information before meeting with us, which was very helpful. The same for the vet who saw us, Jane. Each person seemed genuinely interested in our puppy and what we were experiencing. You can tell when someone is pretending to be interested -- and this was no act. We were very impressed that they were the first to bring up after hours care recommendations and explained the nearby options. We think Armstrong is a trustworthy clinic and recommend a visit.

Armstrong Animal Clinic has been my primary veterinarian for the past 5 years or so. They have reasonable pricing for shots and vaccinations. My 2 cats and dog come here once a year for their annual check up visit, and rabies boosters, etc.The staff here are so sweet! My pets are greeted with so much love and affection. Doctors, nurses, and assistants are all patient and caring. You can tell everyone here has a genuine compassion for all animals.However, Armstrong is not the ideal place for complicated issues and they are not 24/7. But, when my cat was recently diagnosed with complicated internal issues, Dr. Charles B. Williston,spoke with me several times on the phone to provide honest concern, suggestions, and recommendations. He was open and told me that my cat's complications were beyond his expertise and recommended a nearby specialist, whose opinion and skill he trusted. This meant a lot to be, especially since our conversations were off the clock and he didn't make any money off the situation.

We have been going to Armstrong Animal Clinic for almost 15 years. We arrived from NYC with 2 cats, and since then have had one dog and now, another dog. All have received great care from the doctors and staff. I have especially appreciated the straightforward discussions with the doctors over the years. They have never recommended an expensive procedure without listing out the pros and cons, and there have been several times when they have not done a procedure just to do it. The staff has been so loving to our pets--even the ones that were difficult to love. We highly recommend Armstrong and the Willistons.
