I will say all the staff I have ever experienced were great but I'm starting to feel they, meaning Banfield are just a money pit and all about the $$$ rather than what's truly best for my pet. Always always get a second opinion on anything major and not from anyone they recommend. They and the specialist they referred me to said my dog needed knee surgery that would be close to $4000. I chose not to do it because I couldn't afford it and to put him on meds to help with pain. Thank goodness i did because he's fine now. He's just older with arthritis but so glad I didn't put him through an unnecessary surgery. Also don't get your prescriptions here they are outrageously high. Our dog had been sick for months. Each visit tests were done and nothing was found. We understood, but things got progressively worse with our pup. There was a mass found in him that was dismissed due to him eating before having blood work done. Yesterday, he began vomiting and defecating involuntarily, not being able to stand, And my father and sister took him quickly to Banfield. The front staff is a complete joke and do NOT care about any pet. They didn’t take my family seriously as if they were an inconvenience to them. The vet found out (the day our dog was dying, instead of the months of testing) that he had pneumonia, a pulmonary infection, and an underlying cancer. Seriously? We had to put him down. I was at work when I heard the news and rushed over to Banfield, hysteric. I ran up to the desk and had to wait while the two people at the front just talked. Eventually I could not take it anymore and said “excuse me, I’m here for lucky”. One of the gave me a nasty side eye look and Audibly said to the other lady “well that was rude” and proceeded to keep talking for another couple of minutes before picking up the phone, rolling her eyes and saying “they’re here to pick up Lucky”. She then realized who I was there for and said “oh you’re here for the dying dog” and let me into a door. I honestly could not believe the way they treated customers. I work with customers and know how they can be, but really? I would no recommend this pet hospital to anyone if you really care for your pet. Read Less

Yesterday I took my pup here for a hurt tail. I have never been to this Banfield, but her usual vet was the one in Arden. The staff there is great, and expected the same treatment here. Being an emergency, I did not call or make an appointment. It was obvious she had hurt her tail and she was in pain, and immediately drove over. As I was waiting in line, there were two women at the front desk dealing with customers. When the one in front of me was finished, the staff member told me to wait while she filled some paper work, no issue. The other staff member was dealing with a gentleman, when the phone started ringing. Neither staff member picked up, and the woman dealing with the gentleman started becoming angry and picked the phone up and slamming it down, saying it was driving her crazy. Finally, the woman was ready to take me. She asked me if I had an appointment, I said no my pup had injured her tail. She told me they could not see her because we didn't have an appointment. I informed her I hadn't made one because she was injured, we would wait, but again, she declined saying I could leave her there and if they can see her before 7, they would try. It would be unlikely because I didn't have an appointment. During this conversation, the woman dealing with the gentleman continued to pick up and slam the phone down each call, saying it was driving her crazy. This was INCREDIBLY unprofessional. I told the staff member I would find another vet, because my pup needed care and was in pain. They have a sign stating sick or injured animals are seen first, but these two women were rude with attitude and very unprofessional. Will be canceling my pet insurance with them and no longer using Banfild. Read Less

Under different circumstances I would have given this place 4 or 4.5 stars because no place is perfect and things do happen. However today showed me how dismissive their staff can be. I have been coming to Banfield hospitals since my dog was 3 months old. He is now 11 years old. I recently moved to the Steele Creek area and thus this would be the closest Banfield. Anyway, my dog has an ear infection that was diagnosed by them on Wednesday. Per usual they do a follow up call the next day to check on your pet. When ending the call they always tell you to call them if anything comes up. I never needed to call back in the past but this time I started to notice my dog was panting heavily, shaking and acting skiddish which is totally out of character. I call them today, Saturday July 22nd and the receptionist who answered the phone was totally dismissive, almost acting like I was ruining her day for calling with a concern. I asked if the medications they sent me home with ever caused side effects. She said no but offered to ask the Doctor. I was on hold for a minute maybe and she said the Doctor never heard of any side effects for the meds and that maybe my dog just didn't like having his ears cleaned. I might have agreed if he acted that way right after I cleaned his ears and then rhe behavior stopped but it was going on ALL day. I asked to speak with the Doc and the receptionist said she was in surgery. I asked how she was talking to this Doctor who was in surgery. She said because the room was near her. What kind of craziness is that? If you are performing an active surgery why are you answering questions instead of focusing on the surgery. I then asked if the Doc could call me back so we could discuss what was going on. The staff member said she would give her a message but she is not sure when the Doctor would call me back because they are busy. I told her I understood but asked if I would get a call by the end of the day. She said she didn't know that it might take 24 hours. I then asked if I don't get a call today, would get one tomorrow? She said she didn't know again and then said it depends on how many messages the Doctor has. Why even follow up and tell people to call if there are issues if you dismiss them and their concerns I am seriously considering ending my contract with Banfield. We shall see if and when the Doctor calls back but I am not holding my breath. Very poor customer service today. Read Less

Just reading through the reviews while looking for the number to reschedule an appointment and I felt the need to post a review. The service provided at this location is so good that I drive 2 hours one way to take my dog in and schedule any work in the Charlotte area around them. They have so far been very friendly and organized. I chose to give them a try because of their many locations across the US as I will be traveling a lot with my puppy. As a pleasant surprise I discovered that Banfield has a great iPhone app that makes all of my dogs tests and vaccination incredibly easy to look up. It also finds the nearest location and helps schedule an appointment. As far as the upselling people have experienced I would say it has been no worse than any other vet I have visited over the years with any of my animals. In fact I have found them very reasonable in discussing what "extra" services are really necessary when considering my and my dogs lifestyle. I am about 6 months into a wellness plan with them and have every intention of renewing. I have not yet had an even remotely unpleasant experience at this location and cannot say enough for the quality of care Gucci (my cocker spaniel) has received. Read Less

While trying to cancel our two cats wellness plans with Banfield because we've switched vets, they needed the agreement signer to officially cancel the plan - are you for real? I was on hold for like 8 minutes, verified all of your information, the plan is under my phone number, & you're not going to let me cancel because my husband signed the agreement? I ask to speak to a manager & get voicemail...rediculous. Our reason for cancelling? They almost killed our cat once resulting in hundreds of dollars of emergency vet bills from an emergency vet (yes, their mistakes are not covered under your wellness plan & they will not cover the bill for something like this). Then after taking our cats to our dogs vet for a second opinion for a recent checkup, it turns out that upon review of their medical records from Banfield, they have been 'telling' us they did services which apparently hadn't happened in years...so why are we paying over $50 a month? I am fuming right now. They're cats, this isn't like a HIPAA violation. They then told me they couldn't discuss ANY of the details, like balance owed upon cancelation, because it would be a HIPAA violation. I would never recommend them to anyone...this is the third time we've tried to cancel over the years too & it's always something. Feel like I'm dealing with Time Warner Cable when we switched to DirecTV. Be prepared to sign your life away for mediocre (at best) pet care. Read Less

BEWARE! They push procedures that is not needed. Got charged extra $30 the two times they did dental cleaning because they said both my dogs heart rate would drop too far and they needed emergency meds. Totally seemed like a scam or they are over medicating my dogs. Finally left after my second dog got fxied and had problems. Took her in on the weekend after her surgery because it looked infected. The "vet" said they didn't have enough weekend staff to be able to take her into surgery during the to fix some ruptured sutures. Sent us to an emergency clinic down the road. I got charged $150 AND SHE DIDNT NEED TO GO BACK IN SURGERY! They said banfield was wrong and she just needed antibiotics. No rupture. When I called Banfield they said the "vet" on staff was actually just an assistant and sent me to the clinic as a precaution. I asked for them to pay for the emergency bill considering I purchased their pet insurance and they refused. Read Less

This "vet" is an absolute JOKE! I admit we were intrigued by the affordable healthcare packages they have for pets but they leave A LOT to be desired. We decided to give it a shot for our brand new puppy. This office is completely disorganized, rude and provide anything but a personalized service for our dog. The wait is always ridiculous and your "appointment" is never an actual appointment. Not one person other than the actual vets seem to even like pets. Time after time we are disappointed in the service, or lack of service we receive. This is the Wal-Mart of vet clinics. We have another dog that still visits a private vet practice and we refuse to transfer her to Banfield. As soon as the wellness plan is up for our dog we will be cancelling. Basically, to sum it up.. Banfield Pet Hospital at Petsmart in Steele Creek:I wish I could give this place a "0" rating. What a mess. We were brand spanking new in town and had a sick cat,  brought her in with an eye infection she'd had several times before, the same medication has helped her every time. Our "vet" appeared to still be in his teens and tried to talk us into paying hundreds of dollars in X-rays for a claw that she had ripped out that was inflamed, and to lock her in a closet so she wouldn't move around too much - for a few weeks!!! What?! We ended up paying over $100 only to find out that he had given us the complete wrong medication. The cat was leaping around and the claw was not even an issue. Imagine if we had actually locked her in a closet! Ugh. We called our old vet in the state we just moved from  to have them fax over the correct prescription and after hours of awaiting a call back, they call to tell us they don't carry that medication and I should try to call a regular pharmacy and see if they'd fill a prescription I just had the name of. A regular pharmacy as in CVS. They said there was nothing they could do, but we could bring her in for another ($100) visit. Bottom line: avoid this place at all costs. Emphasis on cost. Read Less

This place is crazy and I wouldn't trust a thing they say! My cat simply broke a nail, she was acting just fine, but we called this Banfield for good measure. They acted as if this was a dire emergency and begged us to bring her right in. After an examination the Doctor tried to push $240 xrays on us even though she was obviously moving fine and had a normal temperament. He went on to say it is best we seclude her, locking her in a closet or bathroom for a couple days to limit her movement (ARE YOU KIDDING!)  When this doctor asked my wife if the cats bite her she said yes, playful biting, but they never break the skin. The doctor went on to suggest we go immediately to a doctor to get rabis shots!!!(WHAT?!) I reluctantly paid the $80 bill for a darn broken nail wondering what unsuspecting suckers would have fallen for the Xrays! Well, I took my cat home. She was fine and wouldn't you know, the nail grew back. Read Less

Read Less
