Rhonda and Dr. Baker are the absolute best. They saved this practice from losing a ~5 year client (on the wellness plan). The duo truly go the extra mile to make you and your fur baby feel comfortable throughout your entire visit.  They provide considerate/innovative ways to interact with your pup that make the visit as pleasant as possible (i.e. great communication, sensitive to pup's needs, flexible and adaptable to those needs, such as interacting with my 15-lb dog on the floor instead of the sterile table she hates so much, figuring out that blankets work better than muzzles to restrain her, etc). I probably have as much anxiety as my pug does about her vet visits and previous vets and assistants have not done very much to alleviate this for me. It got to the point that I had started asking around for recommendations of other vet hospitals; however, after meeting these two lovely ladies, I'm happy to say we're not going anywhere!  If Dr. Baker leaves the practice, I am 100% following her wherever she goes in Charlotte.  Will be recommending this location to all of my fellow pet owners as long as she's there Read Less

Dr. Carey is the only vet I trust with my dog!! My sweet 3 year old puppy needed teeth extracted, after getting about 5 different opinions all over Charlotte it was not until we met Dr.Carey that I felt safe or comfortable with my pup having to go under anesthesia. Especially after a traumatic experience at Animal Medical Hospital on Monroe Road in Charlotte, where a vet told me my dogs tounge would hang out of his mouth forever after the surgery and that he might have cancer due to one blood test. When this vet told me he may have cancer she said it as though it was not an issue and was just a maybe thing, TERRBILE and UNPROFESSIONAL. I had my guard up after that and was against taking him to pretty much any vet at all! All things aside, I am so thankful for meeting Dr. Carey!! My dog loves her and it shows she truly loves and cares for his best interest. The cost at Banfield is affordable and all the staff is so nice! I know that I can trust Dr. Carey to give my precious puppy the best care! I scheduled the extraction surgery with Dr. Carey the day I met her, it was an instant feeling of trust. The surgery was completed without complications and my dog has recovered perfect! I refuse to take my dog to anyone but Dr. Carey and cannot thank her enough for giving my baby the best care. We have a Great Dane 135 pounds and have been taking him to Rea Road Banfield hospital located in Pet Smart.  They are very good with him and are one of the most easy vets I've ever used - love I can do a drop off.  Also loved the knowledge of staff and doctors with respect to our Dane. With the Banfield program you pay a set fee monthly and are able to take advantage of good savings and vet visits anytime. This also was great program when we neutered the Dane we also were offered a great deal to go ahead and get stomach tacked (Danes and large breeds often get BLOAT, and this procedure helps stop that) for not much at all. They did a great job with that and know their stuff. Just sometimes with Danes don't let them tell you to feed your dog puppy food - one tech (new I'm sure) insisted I put Dane in puppy food but I had to educate them on that - so recommend which ever dog you have consult your breeder or doctor vet directly or do homework about food. Also with the Dane they were great in offering me other options with relation to flea tick and heart worm - were able to do a cost effective approach of topical and pills which saved me TONS with a Dane. I often drop off the Dane for check ups or anything and they also will take him to get nails trimmed or bath there which is great. HIGHLY recommend them. Staff is friendly and always help out. NEVER GO TO BANFIELD ON REA ROAD We have taken our dogs to Banfield under the wellness plan, since they were puppies. I called and said we have a situation that could be an emergency. The receptionist said they couldn't see our dogs, because they were understaffed. I explained the issue and advised that I thought it was a serious problem. She told me the best she could do was give me the number to another Banfield and hope they could see my dogs. I was offered the opportunity to pay $50 extra and then, miraculously the dogs could be seen today - so my money was more of a concern than doing the right thing. I couldn't let it go - I requested why my pets weren't being treated in the same manner as my kids or myself. When we have an unplanned medical need....which if your human, happens a lot. I don't typically schedule strep throat, but I digress, I call and get put in the schedule, to be seen that day. I was then told that she was just reading the policy and couldn't help me. I requested to speak to her manager - who is named Stephanie. She was on her break, so I waited. She called, with a terse attitude. She didn't ask my name, what the issue with our two doggies were, why I was so insistent on seeing a vet. Instead, she cut me off every time I spoke, was rude and repeated they were short-staffed. So, neither of my dogs needs were cared about. We had an eerily similar conversation, as the earlier receptionist....were short-staffed, true emergencies will be seen-but $50 extra, or I could drop them off tomorrow and hope they get seen. Meanwhile, it never occurred to either "receptionist" to receive the message that they should provide real customer service and ask what is wrong??? And it was reiterated that my dogs aren't people, they don't have insurance, they have a wellness plan and it isn't the same. And further, that they were understaffed and can't be seen. Still now - as they lose my business and my respect, they don't even know what is wrong with my dogs. Not once, was I allowed to speak to an actual vet, to discern if it was an emergency. I am disappointed that vets are allowed to have staff that are completely unaware that dogs are living beings that deserve care. I will be cancelling my "wellness plans" and taking my little lives/loves elsewhere. As they said, I am more than welcome to cancel - but make sure to call corporate, not them. Interesting, pretty sure they handled the purchase, repetitive payments and sales.....but, why we would they be able to think through saving a relationship. It's sad, because the vets are great- their staff is unprofessional, crude and careless. Shame on you BANFIELD REA ROAD and specifically, Stephanie, who's title was more important than why I called. I had a sick pet - ate garlic. I brought her - nice staff but very unprofessional. In comparison to other Banfield Pet Hospital places they did not ask for my approval in regards to money and sign the paper - they said the exam was free but any blood work will cost money. They said they will call for approval first. So in the afternoon they called my husband to let him know there was $220 so far for her having used hydrogen peroxide to through up and to give her charcoal. I assume they did blood work as well to charge extreme money - mind you she has insurance in Banfield Pet Hospital and the blood work was the one not covered. they needed to call me to - i would have not approved such an expensive blood work. They behaved as if if I gave them blank check for them to write any number. Big mistake on my part to have went there - I would not repeat this mistake again. Completely unprofessional. Read Less

I just briefly read another review stating that the staff is more interested in pushing pricey meds and treatments than the actual care of your pet.... I couldn't agree more. I have had so many bad experiences at this office, but continue to go here because I am enrolled in a wellness plan for my dog that they pushed on me, convincing me it was the best bet in lieu of the outrageous bill I was facing. Right after the doctor told me I was possibly looking at the death of my animal, he stated to me that even if my dog died, I would still be charged for the monthly fee of my wellness plan. Such excellent bed side manner. If there were no stars, that is what I would give them. From the receptionist, to the doctors, the people here act like they just do not care about anything except your money. In closing, I must mention the last and final visit to this vet with my dog. My schnauzer, who has recently fought for his life being diagnosed with diabetes, and learning how to live happily after this diagnosis, started showing signs of rapidly growing cataracts in his eyes and I did not know this was a symptom of a diabetes diagnosis.... I took him into this location and turned down some pricey tests, but opted for some rather expensive drops instead (thinking it was just an eye infection) After doing internet research, I found out what any normal vet should have told me, and that is that cataracts and loss of vision is a result of diabetes. A nurse client of mine opened my eyes to this, and not the vet in which I have put my trust. They are out for your money here, period. A few of the vet techs are caring, but other than that, all they see is your money. Its vey sad.Read Less

I called Banfield Hospital several times on a Wednesday afternoon, between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm and the message stating that the hospital was closed, was on. I left a message and they didn't call me back. I ended up calling the store and asked if the hospital was closed. The associate said that they were actually open, so I explained to her that they had this message on and asked her to please let them know. I called again and could not get in touch with anybody. The same message saying that the hospital was closed was still on. Read Less

I took my cat in for a routine teeth cleaning a couple days ago. When I picked him up, he was covered in his own urine. He is now vomiting and has no appetite. When I called to schedule an appointment today they only had a drop off as an option. I turned the drop off down and explained the mess he was when we picked him up. The response I got? "Okay, have a nice day."I will NEVER take my pets to this location. Horrible care for pets and horrible customer service. Read Less

We have been bringing our yorkies to Banfield for 4 years and have never had a bad experience! Since we are in the pet plan we don't hesitate to bring them in to be seen for anything that seems off. They are tiny (4 & 6 lbs) so I am very particular about their health and care. We usually see Dr. Hirst and she is WONDERFUL. She also helped walk us through the final days of my 17 year old cat. The entire staff is extremely compassionate and professional. I have never felt sales pressure and every aspect of care for our pets is thoroughly explained. I am grateful we found Dr.Hirst and the wonderful staff at Banfield! Read Less

I wanted to thank you all for your hard work, dedication, compassion, and customer service I always experience when our dog babies visit your office. We always have a more than enjoyable visit with Dr. Tanis, Dr. Carey, Dr. Hellner, Dr. O'Hara, and Dr. Hirst and their techs/nurses, particularly Megan. We also sincerely appreciate the customer service from Devon and the front desk registrars who always are so professional, friendly, and kind. I can always count on receiving a follow-up phone call the next day asking how our pups are after their visit. I can not express how awesome this is. Thank you Blakeney Banfield, you are wonderful and keep up the great work! Read Less
