Afrer moving to Charlotte, I needed a new vet for my goldendoodle and was referred by the fb group Charlotte Doodle Romp to Long's. Scheudling was easy and the receptionist was friendly on the phone. Parking was not a problem, as there is a big lot next to the practice. We showed up early to give them copies of previous records, etc. We were taken back by the vet tech right at our appointment time and seated in a room right away. We waited maybe a few minutes for Dr. Johnson to come into the room to greet us. She was wonderful! She gave recommendations for my pup as she ages, but didn't push anything on me for procedures,em etc. She answered questions and gave me the time I needed for this "meet and greet" to establish a new vet. I have always had a bad feeling about this place. They seem to really focus on the money rather than care of the animal but it's convenient and they have 24 hour emergency services. On a routine visit the vet recommended my dog get a leptospirosis vaccine. She did communicate that there is some risk of reaction and to bring her in if a reaction occurs. Well she was absolutely right and almost caused my dog to die from this vaccine. A quick google search shows that the leptospirosis vaccine has far greater risk than the benefits and has documented cases of killing dogs. If she was a hunting dog or we lived in the country I could see the justification for recommending this vaccine. I just wish the true risk were communicated that it could cause death before it was administered to my dog. There is no reason to give an animal that spends 90% of her time indoors to be put at risk for a disease she is unlikely to get and can be treated with antibiotics if she were to contract this. Extremely disappointed in the service I received here a few weeks ago. The 24/7 hour service was convenient as the location is right down the street from where I live. I normally go to CARE Animal Hospital but during an urgent time (my dog was having seizures) I went here for convenience. The doctor we saw was extremely rude, not sympathetic, and made us feel stupid for bringing our dog in. He did not provide options for us and instead just tried to hurry us out the door. He also let our dog slide off the examining table multiple times. It was the worst experience I have had with a vet. Needles to say, it was a very unhelpful visit and later that day I had to take our dog to CARE where she ended up having to be put down. I will never go to Long Animal Hospital again. Read Less

My husband and I have been bringing our dog here for 5 years. We love this place, and have referred several friends here. They have a nice open waiting area, friendly staff, and are very accommodating. We also love that they have emergency vet appointments after hours. We know that our dog receives the best care here.Our dog had ACL surgery here and then followed that up with 6 weeks of water therapy on their water treadmill. He's a new dog - his leg is better than ever and he's running around like a puppy again. Can't recommend this place enough!! Read Less

I loved along Animal Hospital up until yesterday.  The upside of Long is their 24/7 emergency services and if make an appointment you can typically get in right away. We recently had to put a pet down and Long was really supportive and handled everything perfectly.The issue I experienced this week (which prompted my review) was related to my cat who we boarded there for a week to treat the house for fleas. I asked them to board the cat, update his rabies and give him a flea bath. The day before we picked him up I called asking them to prescribe a flea/tick medication. When we went to pick him up, we were charged for everything I asked for. They gave us the rabies certificate (unsigned by the vet, which was odd), but I asked about the flea/tick medicine and they weren't sure if it was actually administered. They checked his records and there was no note about the medicine or the rabies vaccine that he supposedly was given. Only a charge on the account, same as the rabies. We spent around $750 between home treatments for fleas and boarding our pets for the week. Not knowing if my cat was protected against future flea bites is a huge problem. Either we assume it was not given to him and we give him another dose which could cause serious health issues or we go home and pray that they administered the treatment. The receptionist asked around and could not confirm either way. One day later and my cat has fleas on him (he also smells awful from the boarding as they did not keep a clean "luxury cat condo" for him). All Long offered in response was a free secondary dose of the flea/tick medicine in two weeks. Really?? How is that responsible for a vet you trust with your animals life and care?I am beyond disappointed with them and I'm now brushing my cat every two hours to make sure the fleas do not feed and procreate as we finally have the house under control. This will likely lead to us having to board the pets again and retreat the house.Given the amount of money we regularly spend here on our pets, I am extremely upset with how they have handled this. Would not recommend if you want a provider who keeps proper records of your pet care and provides clean boarding space for cats. Read Less

I've been here a few times, with stray cats who I take in to be vaccinated and tested for disease. I really appreciate that I don't need an appointment because it's a bit unpredictable as to when I'll actually be able to catch the strays.More importantly, the staff here is very friendly, compassionate, and knowledgeable. The care and attention they give to the stray cats shows that they truly have a passion for animals, rather than just see the animals as $$ for the business. They are also patient, with both the cats and with me. I may or may not have cried a few times while telling the staff the story of the stray; and because the cats are stray they are not always the most cooperative. Not once have I ever felt like a nuisance, on any account. On top of that, prices are reasonable for the standard business hours (I've never had to go during emergency hours). I encourage all pet parents to take this review into serious consideration, despite the length. On 10/4/18 I went to Long around midnight with two, 3 month old rescue puppies I'd had for two weeks. They were having body tremors, unable to hold their bowels and foaming at the mouth. Dr. Phillips examined the dogs in the back, and returned (without an introduction of himself) to tell me he was not seeing any reason to keep them for further testing or observation. They were being treated by another vet for mild upper respiratory symptoms so he said the symptoms I was seeing could be due to the medication they were on. I expressed my concern for the female puppy especially, whose episodes of foaming and losing her bowels did not seem in line with anything upper respiratory. He dismissed my concerns and said he was packing the dogs up for home. He returned moments later to tell me he had witnessed one of the episodes, it was in fact neurological and that the dogs needed to be quarantined overnight for potential Distemper virus. I was offered no explanation as I cried in the room, confused at what just happened. Dr. Phillips said they would work with the rescue I had the dogs from and then left. The following day I received updates from the staff over the phone. I was told they were showing neurological signs, but were stable in the sense of eating and drinking. A doctor left me a voicemail later in the afternoon letting me know they were waiting on the results of the Distemper test but all signs were in line with this diagnosis. He was very up front with me that if it was Distemper, it could have irreversible damage and likely be fatal. I was later told the dogs were being discharged as they were stable enough to wait on the test results and because there is not a cure, making them comfortable would be the focus.When I arrived to pick them up that night, I was frozen with shock upon seeing their condition. A vet tech entered the room holding the little girl pup and I could barely recognize her. She was stiff, foaming at the mouth, did not recognize me and appeared to have significantly progressed neurologically. She told me the dogs were ready to go home, denied my initial request to see a vet to ask the questions I had prepared, and seemed irritated I was so adamant about speaking with a vet before leaving. After demanding to see a vet, she said she would try to find one.I am unaware of the time it took for a vet to return. It was probably 20 minutes but it felt like hours. In the time that passed, I quickly realized the severe state of suffering both puppies were in. The little girl puppy was suffering tremendously and the effects of her illness were very evident. My formerly quiet, timid puppy had such neurological impacts she was having seizures, foaming at the mouth, losing control of her bowels, throwing her head into the side of the carrier, barking, biting and spinning in circles over and over. I could not calm her with my voice and she was thrashing so hard that she was crying out. I sat in the room sobbing, with my fingers in my ears trying to talk to her but also to drown out the sound of her pain. Her brother lay in the carrier next to her quietly whining, having full body tremors. When a vet finally entered, the only thought I had was laying this sweet girl to rest so that she would no longer be tormented by her loss of control. In an overall horrific and traumatic experience, the only light in that entire building was Dr. Foreman. As soon as she entered the room she showed compassion. She explained she had not been the one to observe them during the day and discussed the severity of Distemper. With irreversible signs this far along, we agreed on humane euthanasia and she left the room to prepare. While I waited for her to return, a vet tech waited in the room with me, holding the girl pup on the table. To my horror the vet tech reprimanded her with a "no ma'am", in response to a jerk movement from another seizure. For the sake of character limits, the summary to follow was that both puppies were euthanized. The sudden loss of two puppies was traumatic enough, but my experience at Long turned it to a literal nightmare.My complaint is not even about the lack of compassion I received, but solely for the unnecessary suffering the puppies endured. Had I not demanded to speak with a vet, they would have been sent home to slowly suffer. How did no one recognize their suffering and at the very least provide basic comfort care in the form of a sedative? Why were two dogs showing signs of a highly contagious virus going home without any warning of exposure to other animals? The test results weren't back yet, what if it was rabies? I've attempted to reach out to an office manager on multiple occasions with no response. My hope in sharing this experience is that Long will take a close look into their current practices and that pet parents will strongly consider their choice in veterinary care. Read Less

I  have to give a shout out to long! We take our dog hank here for annual check-ups and we just had what we thought was an emergency (helicopter parents) but took Hank to Long just in case. We decided once we got there that maybe it wasn't necessary and we'd keep an eye on him the next couple of days. Sweet nurse Michelle came out to the parking lot to do a quick look over hank and she was so sweet and gave us a peace of mind that he looked just fine and that we shouldn't have anything to worry about. She gave us helpful tips on what to look out for the next couple of days just in case but all of this was at no cost to us! So sweet and being a dog parent she made us feel like we made the right decision in not having checked out and we left with major sigh of relief! Read Less

It's never a pleasant a experience to be told your beloved family member has cancer, that said Dr. Phillips couldn't have been any kinder. Our sweet 16 year old mix breed pup had never been to the vet except for yearly shots became frantic last Monday evening nothing would settle her sweet self. Alarming to say the least we brought her to Long's thinking she had a UTI only to be told she had bladder cancer. We tried to keep her comfortable over the following days successfully thanks to Dr. Phillips. We choose to let our sweet girl go just three days later when her pain became uncontrollable, Dr. Culbertson (I hope I have the correct name) was extremely kind, caring and respectful. I just had the worst experience at Long Animal Hospital & Emergency Center with Dr. Wittmann.He was rough with my dog pinning his legs down for a simple nail trim. I kept telling him that my dog is not aggressive, just skittish with getting his nails trimmed. His answer was "I can't get our staff bitten". I repeatedly said he doesn't bite and doesn't have any trouble getting his nails trimmed at other places and that he is a therapy dog for God's sake, he's not aggressive.He didn't care, just proceeded to tell me he's going to do it his way and if I didn't like it, maybe I should do it myself. Wow, nice customer service huh? When I asked to speak to the owner about it, the office manager was sent in instead and simply said, "sorry".Keep your animals away from him! Read Less

We absolutely love this vet. We switched over here about two years ago and it has been great. We have very anxious pets and all of the vets and techs do great with them. I have no trouble getting appointments and never find the walk in wait to be terrible either. They've been very accommodating with our skittish dog. I am happy with their pricing. Read Less

Had a good experience, the dr we saw was not very helpful and a touch rude but the remainder of the staff was AMAZING, facility was clean and well maintained, short wait time, and our sweet pup didn't seem as anxious as at other facilities! A few weeks back, our 4 year old lab impaled herself while swimming. We noticed a decent sized hole in her side, so we decided to take her to Long Animal Hospital to have it checked out. This was our first time coming to Long, and we were extremely pleased with the whole staff on how they treated us and our dog. She ended up busting open her stitches and had to go back and have surgery done to repair the damage under the skin. Huge shoutout to Dr. Culberson for stitching her up and knowing exactly how to handle our restraint-hating dog. Overall, we went to Long around 10-12 times (even at 5:30am on July 4th) within the 2 weeks of her injuring herself and having surgery and every time the experience was great. We honestly can't say enough good things about this place, so I'll highly recommend it to anyone ever needing care for their animals. Read Less

This has been the best place to bring my fur babies to, they have always been given the best care from the ladies up front to the doctors & nurses. They even sent us a Sympathy card when our precious pit passed away of old age. The people at Long Animal Hospital were fabulous. The doctor called to tell me they couldn't do surgery at 11:30 pm because my sweet dog Delialah had cancer. He then called us the following day to check on us. Then when we got there everyone was so kind. The doctor who told us what was going on and showed us pictures was so caring. Taylor the nurse if that's what you call them was beyond wonderful. Even though we had to put our precious baby down they were above and beyond fantastic. If we ever have any issues with our other two dogs even though it's an hour away we will bring them there. I also we always give Long Animal Hospital's name to everyone I know. Read Less

I absolutely love the whole staff at Long Animal!!!  My 14 y/o pom had advanced ductal Cancer. Breast cancer. Her teethz were bad,( d/t age) .  She never appeared in pain until the morning she tried to walk she kept falling. I them knew. They welcomed me with the call!  During the whole horrible experience they made sure we were both comfortable, very sincerely kind.  They even let me make payment arrangements. Who does that anymore? No one, but long!! I will drive hours if I have to to bring any future fur babies I may aquire. Even the lady behind the counter came out to hug me. And......WHO DOES THAT?? Long Animal does. I would like to leave a 5 star review based on the vet that now bring my babies to, Dr. Deller, but several management and administrative issues prevent that. 1. I have had some really rude and defensive interactions with girls at the front desk. 2. Parking. When you are bringing in an animal in distress, not being able to get a parking spot and having to drive around the block multiple times or park up the street is a pretty big deal. When I mentioned this to the girl at the front at my recent visit, she immediately got an attitude with me, and even said "yeah sometimes when I get here I have to park on the street." The owners know that parking is a problem, and employees should definitely be parking on the street rather than in the lot if the owners don't want to do anything about the situation. People park to go to Mac's and other places nearby; I see someone parking then walking elsewhere every single time I go to Long. Why hot hire a parking attendant, or even do valet?? Try putting customers first and thinking outside the box.3. I don't get offered an itemized paper receipt anymore, as it will supposedly be emailed to me right away. I have had to call in to get this receipt emailed to me every single time.4. The first vet I saw when I came to long was Dr. Brown, who diagnosed my cat with diabetes based on one blood sugar test. She is extremely terrified of getting in the car, and drools and pants the entire way (that's if we are lucky and avoid vomit or worse). After insulin nearly sent her into a coma and I revived her by syringing sugar water down her throat, I did more research. Stress can cause the blood sugar of a cat to shoot way up, and she should never have been diagnosed in her current condition. I began seeing Dr. Deller, and we now monitor her with a frustosamine curve that measures her average blood sugar over a period of time.I am also quite concerned about some of the recent negative reviews that Long Animal Hospital has received in regards to insufficient or improper treatment, and a few terrible reviews about end of life care. Having on-call emergency care is fantastic, and all the vet techs I have seen have been great, but if my vet leaves I will likely be going back to Dilworth Animal. Read Less

So pleased with Long Animal Hospital!!! Warm, caring, knowledgeable and considerate the doctors of Long are approachable always taking time to discuss concerns regarding your furry friends. Recently my small dog suffered a significant injury; Dr. McGarity's calm, gentle manner put me at ease. Dr. McGarity stitched her up, sent her home with detailed instructions needed to care for her wound. This review is basically for the doctor who examined my dog. Staff at the hospital are very courteous and nice . Let's get to nasty details DR. WHITEMAN or ( Whitman )I took my dog there for UTI(urinary tract infection )follow up checkup . At the time we got her second of shots and heartworm  med and fecal and general checkup . I specifically asked the doctor that my dog had uti and was given meds from this hospital , if her results come out fine can I please get a MC( medical certificate )saying she is fine without mentioning anything about UTI? ( was i asking anything unethical ) if so he should ve told me No riteaway! This is what he did !He send stuff for lab work charged me for that and promised me that he will provide me the note because he understand that insurance company for pets don't ask hospital directly for such record . He talks fast and a complete sales person not a doctor who care or give shit abt ur pets. DR. Whitman is( in my experience ) unreliable doctor who works there as a means to increase profits with no empathy towards animals . This guy didn't have guts to call me directly . He called in such a way that after ringing one bell it went to Vm and he left a Vm instead of answering my question . If you happen to go to this hospital , stay away from this doctor ! He's not worth you time or money.Please note: I corrected my bad language in this review because I received a call from their (online review control department ) and requested me to not call this DR. Sh*t because it effect hospitals reputation . I agree and I have changed my language but not the fact that I went thru. Somehow my dog cut his ear when his regular vet wasn't open. We knew he needed stitches so we went to Long Animal Hospital. We had controlled the bleeding so he wasn't a dire emergency. Unfortunately we did have to wait about an hour to be seen. This was because there were urgent emergencies that needed attendance immediately - which we totally understood. The staff kept us updated on what was happening and when our boy would be seen. Once seen, the vet confirmed he needed stitches. The process took about an hour and they ensured he had the medicine he needed to be comfortable, and an antibiotic to avoid infection since we didn't know exactly what occurred.The price of service was only slightly more than what we would pay during normal vet hours. While we hope we don't have to go to an emergency vet again - if we do we will go back to Long! Read Less

Late on this review but all the same. AMAZING! The nicest staff! Absolutely wonderful! Took my husky in the middle of the night for an emergency and the vet on duty was amazing! Dr Blackwell and all of the after hours emergency staff at Long Animal Hospital are incredibly caring, helpful and exactly what you want at a time of need for your pet. They were sensitive and lovingly cared for my son's hamster in his final hours. We appreciate them so much! Read Less

I really think all vets do a good job. These guys were recommended so we went and they have a nice modern facility. I had to take my dog in for the blood check for his med level. Gave him his last dose this AM. Told the tech we were out of the drug and she said she did not want to refill the entire script in case dosage changed - smart. I suggested giving us two tablets - one for tonight and one for tomorrow and then get the full script with confirmed dosage. I paid $11 for 60 of these tabs in Dec. They wanted $4 for the 2 holdover tabs. $2 per tablet!!!!!! I complained and was told the more you buy they less they are per tablet. I was stunned at this completely transactional mind set. I did not get them. We’ll get the new dosage this afternoon or tomorrow and I’ll order the meds on-line. I know everyone has to make a living and I didn’t mind paying a slight premium to deal with local professionals. But I don’t like being gouged. Read Less

We have been taking both of our dogs, Lola and Einstein, to receive veterinary care at Long Animal Hospital for a couple of years. Our pups always receive excellent care when we take them in. The front office / checkout staff are friendly and efficient, and we never have to wait too long to be seen. I recently brought Einstein for a walk in visit after he popped the stitches on his head from a cyst removal. While we were waiting to be seen, someone called in with an emergency situation. I was impressed that a staff member actually went outside to wait for her in the parking lot so she could be taken in as soon as possible for her dog to be seen. Dr. Jonathan Marrone was our vet. He took time to listen to me, and he was friendly and gentle with our very shy pup. He had excellent bedside manner and took good care of Einstein. I highly recommend Long Animal Hospital to anyone who wants the best care for their pet. Read Less

Dr. Fulton had the terrible task of telling me our dog has cancer. She had amazing “bedside manor” and such patience in explaining our options and answering our questions. She not only had to tell me but also I asked her if I could call my husband and have her explain the prognosis to him too. She did so without hesitation. She was so kind in offering her sympathy about the situation and gave me a big hug as I continued to sob uncontrollably. Plus she was so sweet to our bulldog. Thank you so much, Dr. Fulton, for helping us through such a tough day and being such a wonderful vet, and compassionate person, in delivering the sad news. Long Animal Hospital is the only place we trust for our precious pup! We have been using them as our regular vet for annual visits. However, yesterday our pup was not so precious.Yesterday we came home to our dog who had torn through a Christmas present. Said present had two large chocolate candy bars that looked like a great treat for our doggie. He at them both wrapper and all!! We immediately called Long and they told us to bring him in. Once we arrived he was immediately taken back to start the throw up process. Everyone was super professional and kept us informed. The doctor came back in and explained everything to us and made us feel very comfortable. Overall, we were in and out quickly and our dog was so well taken care of! The staff was super friendly and gave our dog some love!Definitely a Long customer for life! Read Less

If I could give them 10 stars I would to make up for some of the overly negative reviews that state they do not care about your animal and just want your money. We have never once had this experience, but also we have never found a vet that didn't ask for a deposit on a major surgery or procedure.  We took Rocky (10 year old Rottweiler Mix) for the last 2 years driving past at least 3 Vets to get him to Long each time. Dr. Samantha Fulton is so down to earth, compassionate, and approachable. Dr. Fulton always handled Rocky with the utmost care and respect. We fought a lot of issues over the last year and she was always there to talk on the phone and answer our questions and often she would call us out of the blue to follow-up and check on Rocky. When we get our next pup you can 100% believe he/she will be seeing Dr. Fulton. Unfortunately on September 23rd our Rocky went to the Rainbow Bridge. He fought a good fight but stupid cancer finally won the war. He became very sick on September 21st and stopped eating and could not even lift himself up to walk. We quickly rushed him to Long and they immediately took him in. We were really concerned because Dr. Fulton was out of town and would not be able to see him. He was assigned to Dr. Zack Yasin and we immediately became comforted because Dr. Yasin's approach was very similar to Dr. Fulton's. Zack's bedside manner was incredible. He explained every test, etc to us and told us of all of our options as we tried to ensure we gave Rocky every chance possible to survive without causing undue suffering. Sadly after 2 days of no response to major league antibiotic it became apparent that our boy was tired and could no longer fight his battle. We had to make the hardest decision of our lives. We spent a few hours with him in the back with Dr. Yasin right by our side comforting us as we transferred all our love into Rocky for him to hold in his heart until we could see him again in heaven. This comfort was above and beyond and we knew Dr. Yasin genuinely cared for us and our Rocky. Two days after Rocky's passing we visited to debrief with Dr. Yasin and Dr. Fulton since she was now back in town and they were still deeply concerned for us and how we were feeling. We know for a fact that we did absolutely everything we could for Rocky and that he knew how much we loved him and how much they did as well. Never once was he scared to going in to Long for his visits. When Rocky passed we were never asked for a penny until over a month later when a bill was sent to the home for his IV's and equipment. Prior to the bill arriving we received a follow up call from Dr. Fulton to check on us as well as a sympathy card signed personally by everyone there. Long Animal Hospital seems to have a model wherein they only hire people who are friendly, helpful, and professional. Their staff is always welcoming and accommodating. Their vets are insightful and compassionate. They will talk with you on the phone, and their prices are reasonable, and even low compared to many clinics. They did great work for our dog and really helped his arthritis and other problems. When, after a long life, we had to euthanize him, the way they handled it made his death peaceful for our dog and somehow easier for us. My experiences with Long have all been positive, and I recommend them highly. Read Less

IF YOU THINK YOUR PET IS SICK AND THEY DISMISS YOU- GO GET A SECOND OPINION.I have a kitten that I brought three times in two weeks because I knew something was wrong. Each time I came they gave me eyedrops for her eyes, but any person could tell there was some bigger problem causing her to be sick. I asked for antibiotics and more help and they just dismissed me. Finally after the third time bringing her, second time in 24 hours, I decided to find another hospital for her.The other place in which I brought her gave her anabiotic's, antiviral, fluids, and even hospitalized her because she was very sick. After three days she is on the up and up and acting like a kitten again.I feel that Long did not take the time or do a through job each time I brought in my fur baby in a panick. I was away for Memorial Weekend and my father drove a hour to see the vet because my Westie has a history of skin problems. Normally a vet will give her steroids to treat and antibiotics. My dog was biting her fur out and caused some infections. The vet Jonathan Marrone did not want to give my father a full 10 days of medicine and only gave her 5 pills. I had to come back early and deal with this mess that he caused. I believe the vet wanted me to come back and pay another $60 exam fee. He stated that he did not give a full 10 days of medicine because he was worried that I was going to overdose my dog. My dog was still biting out her fur when I came back due to his incompetence. I would not recommend this vet to anyone. I had to call to try to speak to him and the front desk acted like they could care less. I took my dog Miller in for an obstructed bowel I drove 40 min to them because they were willing to work on prices. Miller unfortunately did not make it but not without thorough research. A nervous Mom, for the 1st time taking my 10 year old 65lb. Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix canine child, Charlie, for grooming services at Long's Animal Hospital, was pleasantly surprised! Regardless of being a spoiled only dog, he was comfortable at Long's having experienced veterinarian visits. When Michelle, the groomer, rubbed on him and took him to his visit Charlie was hesitant but not too anxious. Michelle offered that nervous Mom could call to check on him. Charlie's appointment was at 3pm, but I received a call at noon that his grooming services were complete. When I arrived to pick him up, the staff said "let me get your baby". They totally understand this is not just your pet but your family member. Charlie was excited to see me however more excited about the treat jar. Charlie did not show signs of anxiety. Once in the car, his male parts showed excitement. MMMMMMM, seemed to be a great experience for him! As a pup, had taken him to a groomer and picked him as he was sitting in a crate with a large industrial fan in front of him, he ran to me like "get me out of here". This experience at Long's Animal Hospital grooming facility gave me faith again and Long's grooming service will be the only place to groom Charlie in the future! Read Less

Seems to be more of a corporation looking to make money, than a vet who actually cares for your dog. Also, the vets are not on the same page as far as vaccine schedules they recommend. I was told a few weeks ago my puppy was totally done with shots until December. We brought him in to get groomed 3 weeks later, and they recommended that we get another shot and a stool sample. If we would have known he needed another shot or they recommended he get another shot, we would not have had him at dog parks, etc,. Seemed to me that either 1) they just wanted to charge a vet visit that day, simply because he was there or 2) one of the vets didn't know what they were talking about regarding vaccines. Either way, I am not happy with them. The groomers are AWFUL. Went in and told them to trim around the eyes and trim nails. She said she would do a small trim on his fur. Came to pick up my pet, and he was shaven. We brush him twice a day and he had ZERO mattes. After sharing my story, I have had 3 other people tell me the same thing happened to their pets. Exceptional experience. When my cat broke her leg and the urgent care vet here in Belmont told us we'd need a surgeon, I sent out a request to my network for recommendations. The list quickly filled up with the same suggestion: Go to Long Animal Hospital. So I did, and I am not sorry. The staff was caring, competent, professional, and communicated clearly with me at every stage. We had to make the decision to amputate, and the staff was extremely compassionate without sugar-coating anything. After the surgery, I posted photos to my network, which includes several medical professionals. They all chimed in to say the same thing: Wow, those sutures look great! I'd be happy to see those on any patient, human or otherwise! Dr. Brown returned my calls promptly when I had questions, and altogether our experience could not have been better. My three-legged kitty is recovering beautifully. She never had any sign of infection, discharge, bruising, or anything negative, and her recovery has been faster than I could have anticipated. When my 16 week old kitten was throwing up, I took her to Banfield and was told that I would need to pay a sum I couldn't afford to get an X-Ray done and that she would most likely need surgery. I called Long Animal Hospital to make an appointment and prior to the appointment, I called the Humane Society and they were able to help with $400 of the bill. Not only was the surgery performed for intussusception, but Long Animal Hospital was able to put me on $50 a month payments. I cannot express how thankful I am. Without their help and the help from the Humane Society, I would have had no other choice but to have put her down. Terrible surgical experience. I took two doberman puppies to get their ears cropped here. The crop is terrible. The surgeon tried to jack up the prices the day of surgery instead of sticking to what he quoted me originally. I have to get corrective surgery on my dog. My poor sweet baby Maya injured her back leg resulting in 3 severed tendons. Dr. Debra James immediately called me when she discovered the extent of the injury. Because of the severity of the injury she recommended that we go to a specialist to have it repaired. She spent the time to call 2 different hospitals to find a surgeon to perform the repair that day. I recently had to put my cat of 15 years "Boo" to sleep. The staff was extra caring and supportive! The doctor was upfront regarding his condition instead of trying to stream me along with false hope & extra expenses. They allowed me to take as much time as I needed to say goodbye to my loved one, and they followed up with a personalized condolence card from the staff and the doctor. Worst experience I've ever had at a vet. Any my dog came home with fleas. Don't go here, they are ripping you off. Talked me into leaving my dog, basically guilted me into leaving my dog over night. Over the past 4 years, my wife and I have taken our two dogs to Long Animal Hospital for things as minor as a broken nail and as major as the surgical removal of a malignant sarcoma that was intertwined with our dog's ribcage. Everyone we've encountered from the receptionists to the techs to the veterinarians have always been polite, helpful, and, most importantly, knowledgeable. The facilities are also as clean as could possibly be expected at a vet's office. We have used many of their various services multiple times (boarding, ER, etc.) and have always been very pleased. I absolutely love Long Animal Hospital. Every time we've been there, each person we've encountered working at Long treats our pitties with such care and love. It does not matter which vet we've seen, we loved them all. Even the time when I just call in a panic because our puppy had worms, the lovely ladies at the front we're kind and considerate with me. Or when Sampson cut his leg open after slipping on a wet dock at Latta, the vet gave him peanut butter out of his pocket to ease his discomfort. I would highly recommend Long Animal Hospital. The receptionists are extremely professional and nice. They are accommodating in the case of emergencies or those inevitable unexpected situations. Dr. Fulton is especially great with my dog. She always provides the care necessary and is extremely friendly to both me and my dog. The store located downstairs offers competitive pricing on the products that we always have to buy (food, heart worm medication, flee medication, etc.) The facility is also extremely clean, which I assume must be difficult due to the amount of animals that go through their daily. I have a vet in the Lake Norman Area, but moved to Charlotte some time ago and wanted a vet closer to where I live. Several people I know recommended Long, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. When we walked in, there was a man vacuuming the carpet and floor in the waiting room area. It was clear by the trembling and mouth foaming with saliva, that my dog was terrified of the vacuum. We sat down (in an area away from him) and this man then decides to vacuum right next to us. When I got up to move, he told me it wasn't necessary. I told him yes, it is, my dog is terrified. He just kept along with his vacuuming. Zero concern for the comfort of my dog. We got called to the exam room shortly after we moved to the other side of the waiting room. After the vacuum incident, my dog was a nervous wreck. She literally "pooped her pants" in the exam room (mind you, she's never had an accident in the house, or the vet's). The vet tech was very nice about it. The doctor was pleasant too. He got down on the floor with her, trying to put her at ease. I appreciated that. When I got home I looked at my receipt and noticed I was charged for the wrong dog. When I was checked out they must have mixed up my dog's paperwork with another dog. I called and coincidently enough, our bills were the exact same amount (I find that hard to believe) and the woman simply said, well both accounts are paid for so you're all set. Um, ok. Zero acknowledgment of the mistake on their part. That makes me worried. Mixing up patient records can result in more than just a billing error. Please be more careful!!Read Less

I've been searching for a vet to take all 3 of our dogs too. I've been to big corporate vets and much smaller neighborhood vets. But Long is everything I've been looking for! They are so professional, insanely kind, very fairly priced (plus the kick backs I always get for heart worm meds is a giant plus, either free months or rebates). I like knowing if anything were to happen and we needed to rush him there, they would already know him and have in information on file. We had an emergency with our small dog, and they were very helpful over the phone arranging for us to come in same-day, giving us pricing information and filling out the new patient sheet over the phone. It is a very affordable place. They charged us, in-all, to be seen, x-rays, services, and some vaccines the price it would cost to just get the x-rays at other veterinary hospitals we checked (Total Bond Veterinary Hospital on Mt. Holly Road and Banfield Pet Hospital on Perimeter Pkwy). Being seen in the room, you're given a detailed list of pricing for all services performed before they are conducted, so you can make informed decisions. They also accept Care Credit, which is great and take pet insurance (Embrace). You get there, there is a separate entrance for dogs and cats, designated pay areas and plentiful patient rooms you're escorted to. Reception is pleasant, technicians are friendly and doctors are very kind. I switched over to Long Animal Hospital after moving from a different side of town in Charlotte, and taking my dogs to a Banfield that was convenient to that side of town. I assumed that, in switching over to a more privatized company, my pet care costs would increase alongside the quality of the pet care--I rationalized that I would pay higher costs if it meant better care. However, to my extreme delight, my pet care costs actually decreased overall (better diagnoses, fewer visits as a result of better care, better treatment, etc.) while the pet care quality increased! I have been referring several friends and family to Long Animal Hospital as a result of my wonderful experiences EVERY SINGLE VISIT! The staff is wonderful. The vets are nice. However, it's not cheap. A regular appointment racks up to be close to $140. After living in Charlotte for 2 solid years, it was about time I found a vet for my little fur baby, Zoey. It was a last minute need for a vet, and excellent reviews from Nikki W. & Allyson D. that guided me here. My wife and I ended up needing to board Zoey for a weekend and every single one of our designated dog watching friends was out of town. With a couple of Zoey's shots being expired, I had two days to get her in to a vet, tested, updated, and applied for boarding. Thankfully, Long Animal Hospital was able to get Zoey in the very next day after I called. The front desk staff was super friendly as was the vet tech and the vet. They were so kind to Zoey, I don't think she even minded being there! The facility is clean as could be .. bright white and sterile. They even have separate entrances for cats & dogs to avoid some of the dreaded stress that comes with a Vet visit. Zoey recently had an emergency situation come up where she had a terrible allergic reaction  ... I called the emergency number on Sunday night and was able to get an appointment for 7am Monday morning ... now that's service right there!The price I'd say is middle of the road ... you'll find cheaper offices but you'll definitely find more expensive visits. For Zoey's check up visit that included a heart worm test, blood work and every single shot, I believe it was about $150. BUT, in the end you're paying for the quality of care for your pet, and that is priceless! Read Less

I have seen two different doctors and one I was not pleased with but Dr. Whittman is amazing. My dog loves going to the vet and he is so good with him. I have been going there for a while now. I really enjoy the staff. The doctors I have seen seem very knowledeable and friendly and take as much time as you need. We see Dr. Whitman. He is really personable and showed me anything he found wrong with Jake. He had an ear infection and Dr. Whitman attached the ear scope up to a monitor so I could see what was going on down in Jake's ear. Pretty gross, but made me realize I wasn't doing what I needed to do. He also showed me how to clean the ears, which I was never shown by other vets. Prices were decent. About average compared to my last vet. But the service makes it much more of a value. Can get busy at times. I avoid Saturdays like the plague. Jake won't be going anywhere else. Thanks Longs. All of the veterinarians at Long are wonderful!! They will spend as much time as is needed to make sure you understand any diagnosis, treatment, etc. The staff is always friendly and they recognize us when we walk in. My last experience there was a little disappointing, however. I was prescribed & given (& charged for!!!) both Sentinel and Canine Advantix. It wasn't until I saw an ad in a pet magazine for Sentinel which stated the monthly chewable is not only for heartworm prevention, but also for the prevention of fleas and ticks - which is what the topical Advantix does. So why was I given both? And it was for my PUPPY! I'm already extremely cautious about what I give him in the way of medication, etc - ensuring that it's absolutely necessary and that he's not being over-medicated. There is no excuse for this oversight. If my dog had fleas, I could understand giving him a topical, like Advantix - but he's never had fleas and especially didn't have them on that visit. I think any pet owner knows how expensive each of the heartworm and flea/tick preventatives are, so buying one unnecessarily is just infuriating. It's hard for me to trust them again after this because I don't feel they have our best interest ahead of their money-making prerogatives. Read Less

I have been a client for many years and approximately 10 pets over the years (maybe more). The service is topnotch, all my questions are answered. If treatment is needed, they suggest the least traumatic and most cost effective first. When we had to have a beloved pet put down, they were understanding, supportive and very caring. Dr. Killough (senior) has performed two acls on my bully, treated her low-thyoid, removed benign lesions and has always performed excellent and thorough care. Most recently she damaged her canine tooth and Dr. Killough followed up twice by phone and consulted a veterinarian dentist. The costs are reasonable and the staff are friendly. I have been taking my cats there for several years and I'm sad that I moved 30 miles away. I still take them there if I can the doctors are so good with the animals and and the staff has always been great. My sister referred me to them because she takes her two Labs there. Sure there are closer vets to her but the care and service that Long Animal hospital gives makes you want to come back there. They always called back to find out how your pet is doing they take their time with you when your there and never feel rushed and their prices are very reasonable. We love our pets. We would love to say ""money is no object' but the truth for many of us is that it is a concern. Our cat was shot last week and we raced her to a well known emergency 24 hour vet hospital. All they talked about from the minute we arrived is ""cost, money, fee's, expenses"" what about my cat who had a bullet in her leg? We transferred her to Longs immediately. All they asked is ""What happened, has anything like this happened to any other pets, when was the last time she ate,"" and then they assured us they would care for her and for us not to worry. They performed surgery, removing her leg, they called frequently called and kept us posted on her condtion. They called after she was released, checking on her. ONE TIME when we dropped her off they asked for a small down payment and asked that we make a small weekly payment. That was it. They care about YOU and they care about your pet. Give them a chance. Yes the exam rooms lack personality. But are they there to entertain us or take care of our beloved animals? Go to those corporate vet hospitals where the exam rooms are full of photos and cards and fun stuff. You will pay 6x the amount for a major trauma such as the one our kitty experienced. I have been going here for many years for general check ups and love the service I get. Last week I called, a little frantic about my dog. I won't go into the details, but I called to see should I bring her in or wait... I spoke to ""Laura"" and she was very helpful and concerned about my baby! She listened to my concerns and asked several key questions. After consulting a doctor, they both assured me that I could come right in and get taken care of. Keep in mind it was after 6:00pm!!
