I'll keep this short, thought this place was fine at first, but then realized the gouging that was happening. My dog had an ear hematoma, they recommended $200 laser therapy. It did nothing. When I asked what it was supposed to do, the tech couldn't tell me. Then comes a quote for a $1500-$1700 surgery, and placing her on a medicine I repeatedly told them my dog couldn't be on. My gut told me to get a second opinion. Soo glad I did. Check out Archdale. Small, personal, half the cost. Literally did the surgery for half the cost, actually cared about my financial situation, and my dog. Oh, and they managed to find a diff medicine for her recovery. Follow up visits she was greeted warmly and she was excited to see them, which tells me they took great care of her. So if your gut tells you something's not right about this place...you know where to go. Read Less

We have always had a good experience here, but I felt compelled to write a review to thank them for a great experience this week.  We admittedly waited too long to get our dog's teeth cleaned because we were worried about having him put under anesthesia after losing a rabbit years ago.  He is nine years old and had never had a professional cleaning.  We had looked into holistic, non-anesthetic cleanings and were told our dog had 7 loose teeth and they would need to be removed!  After that, I returned to Steele Creek and had them assess our dog and knew it was time to just go for the dental surgery and let them take care of whatever needed to be done.  Surprisingly, he only needed 2 teeth removed, the surgery didn't take that long, and our dog was happy and wagging his tail when I came to get him.  The bill was also less than I was quoted.  It was expensive, but worth it.  We had a great experience and I'm so thankful they took good care of his teeth and no issues with the anesthesia. This place is horrible and I can't believe how I was treated here. My husband and I had already been wanting to find a new vet because this one is very expensive, and then my cat broke his leg. Not wanting to search for a new vet during this ordeal, we stuck with them. My cat had a cast for 9 weeks and had to come get his cast changed every week. He became very anxious about these appointments and the vet insisted that I bring him prior to 9 every morning so they could sedate h for his cast change, and I wasn't allowed to pick him up until 7 pm. I didnt like him being sedated once a week, not to mention it was several hundred dollars per appointment. I stated that he did much better when I was at the appointments and asked that we try changing his cast with me present to hold him as we'd done in the beginning, and the vet refused. I ended up spending thousands and the vet was very rude to me after the first couple appointments (but I will say she was wonderful at first... Then it went downhill)We did some vet shopping for the next year and didn't find anyone we were crazy about, so I returned about a year later when my dog had a cold. They refused to see her because she was too nervous but still charged us the full cost for the visit - she never even got to the exam room! When I called to talk to them about the visit, the tech who I spoke with was extremely rude and called my dog names, and said that she was aggressive (she's not at all and never so much as growled at anyone at their office) and if she bit someone at the office they were going to have her put down. What?! Ive never been treated so poorly by a vet's office and immediately switched. I will never be back and will warn everyone against this terrible office. Read Less

To state this clinic as money hungry is an understatement. They will run unnecessary lab tests and other diagnostics only to not draw a conclusion and from there prescribe medications hoping the meds help. And if not, they will prescribe more or run more diagnostics. No matter the severity or lack thereof for the reason for your visit I guarantee you will not walk out of there with less than a $300 bill. We had a wonderful experience with this Animal Hospital. Our dog, Harvey, hasn't been taken to the vet in a couple of years because he is very fearful. In the past he has snapped at vets, peed, growled like crazy because he has had some abuse in his past before we got him. Amy Kirkpatrick was our vet and she is WONDERFUL. She, along with everyone else we met understood his past and were very slow and patient with him. He never growled, never snapped, never bit and was completely calm. They are professionals. I see a lot of negative reviews on here about being charged for things and about money in general. A vets office, just like a doctors office, will do what they think needs to be done. You need to ask the price of services before they are done and make sure they fit your budget. We got everything done that we wanted to and they even made sure they didn't need to sedate Harvey so that we had more room for blood tests we wanted done. This is now Harveys vet for life as well as the vet we will always go to with all our pets in the future. Thanks guys! Read Less

for Gods sake never take your animal there. They are just in to make money, Bathing my 12 year old rescue chow lab mix today I was thinking of this rip off joint. 7 years ago they said he needed double hip replacement for a modest $4.5k per hip followed by water aerobics. Dr, Clark trying to build her business. Took the xrays to Longs and found he had fluid on one knee from bumping the pet door. $84l. I could post a video of him chasing squirrels now. Later I took my old cat up there to have put down and I was crying and the doctor told me she knew I was out of work and while holding up the syringe asked me if I was going to be able to pay. We will NEVER return to this place. Unlike we did, do yourself a favor and read the reviews on here and what seems to be a recurring issue of being charged for numerous unnecessary and expensive tests. Not only was the wait time + visit a grand total of 2 hours but they were not upfront about costs and this vet was unprofessional. When you say you are going to do some blood work, let your customers know it's going to cost them about $200. The vet said he needed a clearer view of my dog's ear inside (mind you, he gets his ears cleaned at the groomers) but we didn't know until it was time to pay that it would cost us almost $30. We spent most of the 2 hours couped up in the room waiting for what was pretty much supposed to just be an annual exam/shots. They say dogs can pick up on people or places they don't like, my dog shed more than I have ever seen him shed in one sitting. He clearly hated being there as well. To top it off, the vet would only address my husband and when I asked questions, he would look to my husband to discuss them or disregard my statements. Several times my husband deferred to me when the vet asked questions because he was my dog for years before we married and it would clearly made more sense to discuss these matters with me. Run away like another person's review stated on here. This was by far the worst veterinarian experience ever, not to mention the worst since we moved to this area. There's nothing like taking your dog in and expecting a $150 bill max like all his visits have typically cost with other vets before we moved here and having an almost $500 bomb dropped on you. Shame on you guys! Update: not sure why the person below had responded there was not a male staff member. His name is Damien and he was the only vet available so this response to my post makes no sense whatsoever and feels and if it was made to discredit my post! Maybe he was a fill in or part-timer or something and if that is the case I wouldn’t recommend him coming back. Read Less

They have always been good to me and I will continue to recommend people to the practice. You're paying for excellent care when you bring your pets here. I took her in for a 6pm appt and sat there....for 30 min. Not one single other person was there. And outside of the room I could hear the vet talking to a tech about fitness...really? You're making me wait so you can chit chat about your workout routine? I can't understand why they make you wait around, like you don't have a life. Dilworth never made me wait more than 5-10 min and there was good reason, bc other animals were being seen. They had to call back twice just to get a tech to come up and get us only for us to wait another 20 min. Learn to treat your clients better. I had asked about this place and had gotten not so great reviews but decided since it was convenient I would allow them to see my pup. We have brought all of our animals to Steele Creek--3 dogs, cat and ferret. The entire staff knows our Collie, and treat him like a rock star every time he comes in--and he eats it up! Several years ago Dr. Young (along with a vet we loved but is no longer there) saved the life of my ferret and they checked their procedure with exotic experts prior to treatment. NO ONE thought he would recover, let alone thrive. The vet's office in another state I picked him up at before taking him home to Steele Creek told me not to waste my money because my pet "was obviously terminal..."it took months of treatment, but Dr. Young brought him back to his old self. We normally use Dr. Clark, & love her, as does my dog. Once, after I had had back surgery, she came to our house herself to pick up one of our injured dogs to bring her in to the clinic. I don't know many vet's offices who would do that-! She also always calls after we have brought our dog in for treatment to check on him, and tells us to call her anytime with questions or concerns--and actually returns the calls. The clinic does seem to have a lot of vets that kind of come and go, and there have been a couple I did not particularly care for..but I have certainly had physicians I prefer to others as well. I do wish they charged a little less, as they seem a bit on the high end. The rehab services that they do are very highly priced, but they offer a variety of approaches including more holistic treatments, and accupuncture. I have seen complaints about the attitudes of some of the staff up front (maybe partly because of high turnover), but for the most part they have been polite and usually helpful. If, in the future, our pets need surgery or a necessary procedure I probably would go for a 2nd opinion (partly due to cost)--but again, would do so with my own physicians. One thing I thought really SUCKED--I wanted a RX for heartworm meds to give to 1800PETMEDS so we could get it cheaper--and Steele Creek refused!! They said "Why would we do that when it would cause us to LOSE money??" We do buy flea and tick medicines and other misc.things online or somewhere else to save money where possible. But I am revising my rating due to more recent interactions & follow ups with the hospital. Our pets have never gone anywhere else--unless they were referred to specialists--& are noticeably reassured to see their familiar doc. Are the exams, blood work, meds & extra tests expensive? Yes. And I've heard other people speak of less costly and more expert treatment in other situations. But as long as I have a good relationship & am comfortable with the specific caregivers we use, I won't be going anywhere else. Read Less

I understand this is necessary sometimes but we are clearly owners who will do anything and everything for our dogs so a clear and decisive answer would have been very much appreciated. A lot of times we got an "I don't know" answer followed up with wanting to do a bunch of other tests (which were always $300+) and still no answer. After getting results of a serious health issue with our older boxer and not feeling like we were getting the answers we wanted, we got a second opinion, found a rather simple solution (that Steele Creek didn't even discuss with us) and now our boxer is doing great! One big thing that did bother me was during our time at Steele Creek we got a puppy and the minute we would walk in the waiting area (as we were there every 2 weeks for shots in the beginning) one of the staff members would come take his leash right out of our hands and take him around to show him off in the back. I completely understand that he's a puppy and cute and everyone loves puppies but ask if that's okay with the owners first. It became a little uncomfortable to have to explain to the staff that we wanted our puppy to stay with us in the waiting area and when we did we got looked at like we were absolutely crazy and the rudest people ever. We switched to another vet in the area and absolutely love him so we won't be going back to Steele Creek Animal Hospital. Read Less

I recently switched to this veterinary practice from another I had been going to for many years. The reason I switched was because the previous practice was very disorganized in the communication between the "front office" and the medical staff, and as my dog has aged  and his need's increased, I grew increasingly uncomfortable with the potential for error that such poor communication might result in.I knew when I first took my little guy to SCAH that I was going to have to incur a huge expense before I could reach the ultimate goal of having his teeth cleaned -- he's an older dog, has a heart murmur, and has extreme gum disease  which is typical for his breed.  Another reviewer here left a very bad review of SCAH, putting the blame on the practice because she couldn't afford health care for her dog(s).  The reviewer  should NOT have left a poor review of the practice because of her own poor financial management.  I am speaking from first-hand multi-visit experience when I write that the care from this practice is exemplary on all levels--front office, assistants, and especially Dr. Young. They are a veterinary practice, not a welfare office. As we've been running various tests to determine whether my guy's heart is strong enough to undergo the much-needed dental work, Dr. Young has made herself available at all hours of the day or night - yes, she gave me her cell number and she's called me as late as 10:00 in the evening to discuss test results. THAT, is a thorough and caring vet.  Like the other reviewer, I'm not a wealthy woman, and I will probably be using CareCredit to pay for my guy's dental bill when I pick him up later this afternoon (as I have for the tests done to-date), but that's my problem, not SCAH's. I can tell you unequivocally that you will not find a better practice than that of Dr. Young. Read Less

I'd like to start off by saying that I am a poor person...  one of the 99%ers that lives paycheck to paycheck.  I rescued 2 dogs 13 years ago when I was young and healthy and now I can clearly see that I'm too poor to have them because I can't pay for their treatments as they age.  Ok- lesson learned with maturity... I get that.  Ok- so I shouldn't have gotten them... Ok, so I was naive and thought love along with an annual visit and teeth cleaning would be sufficient.  Fine lesson learned for next time, but I still have them now, I love them dearly and I need veterinary services. Now that my girls are old ladies, we're beginning to have some age related issues and I'm in full tilt panic mode about it.  I was referred to STAH by a coworker and I have enjoyed them on our visits.  I do believe they love animals and I try to support the mostly (if not all) female team as I think us girls need to stick together and support each other's businesses just like the "good old boys club" does for the boys...  But WOW!  A yearly visit for $193 ending with a dental estimate for over $740 to have one 13 year old dog's teeth cleaned?  Really?  And then before I can regain my footing, another $300 to have an ultrasound of her liver 3 days later?  I'm in at over a thousand dollars within a week.  They might as well have said it was a billion dollars because the possibility of me having that money anytime soon is utterly out of the question, period... the end.  Not to mention- I have a second dog that needs to have her yearly visit also, but I'm so far down with the first dog that I fear I'll never even be able to get back around to the second dog and that's not fair to her and her health.  So what am I to do??  There is no welfare or government assistance for animals, I'm trying desperately to keep my good credit intact so even applying for Care Credit is not an option for me right now and my husband lost his job 2 weeks ago.  My visit to SCAH has left me worried, sad, depressed and feeling quite hopeless and defeated; so as much as I enjoy Dr. McDermott, I simply have to take my business elsewhere.  So in conclusion- if you're blessed enough to live in that magical 1% and have a ton of cash and want to support an office full of kind ladies, then Steele Creek Animal Hospital is for you.  But if you're like me and the other 99% out there that are barely making ends meet, then keep looking for a less expensive veterinarian in a poorer part of town. For the most part,  Steele Creek Animal Hospital has been fine, although pricier than any other vet I've been to. However, after a couple of bad experiences, I won't be going back. My dog was forgotten about once while there - I dropped him off for shots and made arrangments to pick him up at noon. When I called to confirm he was ready, they didn't know who my dog was, what he was  - there for and of course, he wasn't ready for pick up. And then a shot was forgotten - so I had to take him back at a different time. Most recently, while having his annual check up, I informed them that he had a bout of diarrhea and wasn't drinking water - I was told that "it's hard to tell what he might have picked up while you were out walking" and "he'll drink water when he's ready." The dog hasn't had water in more than 24 hours and is not acting like himself, very lethargic. I don't feel like my concerns were adequately addressed. Furthermore, during the exam, my dog yelped twice - once during the most agressive rectal exam I've ever seen and once when his hip was pushed on hard enough to make me scream. I'm not a happy customer and my dog is still acting sick - so I just paid almost $300 to find out nothing. Not worth it - take your pets to a vet that's in it for the animals and not just the money.

Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

We LOVE Steele Creek Animal Hospital. They were recommended to me by a coworker and I have been nothing but happy with their services. We have a little 5 month old puppy and they assisted us with getting all of his shots and answered all of my many questions happily. Since I moved to charlotte 3 years ago I've been coming here. My dog Schlammy which was aggressive towards outsiders was welcomed here and He or I were never made to feel unwelcome. Dr Jo Clark is the vet I see, and when my Schlammy got sick she was the one who took care of him and euthanized him when the time came. She was very understanding and comforting towards me when I had to make one of the hardest decisions in my life. When I got a new pup Sena, I now bring him to Steele Creek as well. They have always been good to me and I will continue to recommend people to the practice. You're paying for excellent care when you bring your pets here. I think it's so cool that when you walk in there's a separate waiting area for dogs/cats. I've never been made to wait for N extended period time, which I greatly appreciate. They never seem to overbook and I appreciate that as well, it's never too crowded. Read Less

I have always had a great experience here.   Cost doesn't matter to me when it involves the health of my fur babies and I definitely feel as though they get taken care of at Steele Creek.  I've gone to more expensive and less expensive clinics and had terrible service.  It led me to vet hopping trying to find the right spot and people to help care for my dog. Steele Creek is it. Dr. Whitaker is fabulous, as are all the techs and front office people.  I've seen a few of the other vets and they all have been very willing to help no matter the situation.  No complaints what so ever. So I switched to this Vet last year from Dilworth Animal Hospital and have not been satisfied. I moved over to this area and she went in for her vaccinations and for some reason they like to make you wait. Idk why......but last Dec. the same thing happened as last night to me. Well, save your time and money, I will be taking her to Veterinary Medical Center of Fort Mill tonight and a follow up review will ensue. We have 4 giant breed rescue dogs and have used Steele Creek ever since Dr. Young and her team successfully rehabilitated one of our Newfies after a vet at another facility botched her surgery. The entire team is very caring and helpful, and Dr. Young is one of the best vets I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Because of the long drive to the clinic for us, we recently tried some local vets, but quickly came back to Steele Creek when we didn't get the same level of care and expertise. Are they a bit pricey? Maybe a little, but honestly, I don't think they are appreciably more expensive than any other clinic, and to us, the care is well worth it. Read Less

Read Less

The staff and doctors at Steele Creek Animal Hospital are very nice but just be very cautious. We were never really able to get a straight answer (on something as simple as what age was best to neuter our puppy after the vet was the one who brought it up to us) and always seemed to be covering themselves.
