Today, we took our dog Teddy to Robinson Animal Hospital. Everyone that we interacted with were caring and compassionate. Nick, the practice manager and Dr. Robinson took their time while examining our dog and they explained everything to us fully. Dr. Robinson made it clear that his recommendations of care were the same he would do for his own pet. I also liked the fact that Nick told us what the cost of every procedure would be before doing it. There were no surprises when it came to cost and I found their fees to be reasonable and fair. I really appreciate Robinson Animal Hospital and would highly recommend them. We have found our dog's vet and would not go anywhere else. Read Less

We brought our 15 y.o. cat Scooby for the first time back in September (we are new to the area). I read the reviews and chose this place based on prior reviews. I am not normally one to write a review but it is more than necessary to let others now what an awesome place this is. The doctor and staff could not have been more compassionate about Scooby. There was really nothing we could do about his condition considering his age. The doctor never tried to push unecessary tests or medications on us. He told us that we should make him as comfortable as possible and enjoy him for the remainder of his life. Unfortunately he had a mass in his brain and we had to take him back in October once he could no longer eat or drink. They were so warm and sympathetic during this time as well. My husband was the one that took him in both times and he always spoke so highly of them. Also I forgot to mention that the first time we brought Scooby in...we received a “welcome to the family” card and there was a hand written message from the doctor. Today in the mail came a card with hand written messages from EACH of the team members including the doctors with warm thoughts and prayers in response to Scooby’s passing. If you are reading this review don’t waste time reading other reviews because the care won’t amount to this place ( We have a different animal hospital less than a mile from our home and I’m sure they are good but they are not Robinson) Read Less

Dr. Head is truly someone you want to diagnose and treat your pet (and someone I'm pretty sure your pet will love too). He's thorough, honest, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, caring. He really puts your pets' needs first and gives plenty of treatment options. You can tell he and his staff sincerely care about your pets. I was surprised to get a handwritten card from Dr. Head after our first visit welcoming us and assuring us not to hesitate to reach out with questions for our cat's diagnosis and treatment plan. He weighs care and cost of care for the owners, and the receptionist is kind and applies coupons if any are available (and it seems they often are). This clinic offers great prices, but more importantly great care. Both my cat and I love Dr. Head and I'm thankful to have randomly chosen his clinic when my cat needed care. Read Less

I have never written a review online because I know how detrimental it can be for a business. However, when it comes to my fur babies I don't mess around. I'm not here to bash Robinson, I'm here to tell everyone trying to choose a vet based on reviews (as was I) about my experience. I took my senior dog in for an exam because she had an inflamed gland. She was previously abused so of course she is timid. The assistant who took her weight and temperature asked about her history, etc. She went back to get her temp and weight (even though there was the scale and the thermometer in the room) and I could hear here basically tell the doctor all the issues she thought my dog had. I declined shots that she was trying to push because I believed that my dog had already had them but couldn't remember how long it had been. I could hear her mock me in the back, which already made it uncomfortable. Then the doctor came in. He asked me if I wanted him to do the exam in the room with me or not. Of course I said do it here, I wanted to make sure my dog was comfortable. My dog has never been so uncomfortable. It killed me but I'm so glad they did it there so at least I could be there. So the vet tells me my dog needs to be rechecked because he couldn't express one of her glands and she may need a biopsy... I felt like from the moment this vet started talking he was more concerned with my money than my pet. Exam visit, procedure, recheck (in 3 days), possibly biopsy..not to mention the first time we meet you tell me my healthy dog may have a tumor. Not the best thing to tell a pet owner the first time you meet.. So anyway, I scheduled the recheck with him 3 days later. I thought I'd give Robinson another chance maybe they had an off day. When I took my dog in the assistant (diff one) took my dog back and said she'd be right back, she was checking her temp. 15 mins passed. The dr, the assistant and my dog came back. They had done the entire recheck without telling me. The vet didn't even come in and say hello nor did the assistant tell me anything. Additionally, I was charged for both visits in total cost $250. I had heard they were expensive which is fine with me as long as the care is exceptional. Idk, maybe this isn't a big deal to some pet owners but to me this was huge. The whole experience was uncomfortable, unwelcoming and stressful for myself and my dog. I chose Robinson because of the reviews online, the location and the hours. But I will definitely not be back. I hope this review ultimately helps pet owners but also helps the vet and assistants at Robinson take better care of their customers. Read Less

Please, for the health and safety of your animal, do not take them here. We took our sick cat in on Friday. They took labs and tests, gave him subq fluids for dehydration, and told us they wouldn't do anything else until Monday when the labs came in. (Normally they are open shortened hours on Saturday, but being a holiday week they were not.) The next day the cat is still horribly ill. We took him to a 24 hour emergency hospital and told them what had happened. They were shocked at how he was treated with how sick he was, and he was still severely dehydrated (so it seems his fluids dosing was way off). The hospital sent two messages over the weekend to Robinson about the cat's status in his now two going on three day hospitalization. Now it's Monday morning. I call at 10am since I thought that would be ample time (two and a half hours since opening) to read labs in what has become a very pressing situation for us. I talk to the receptionist who says the labs are all on the doctor's desk and he is too busy to read them. He'll get to them at some point today. I remind her of the hospitalization of our animal and ask if she can estimate a time when they will be read. No, he's too busy. He'll get to them at some point today. So now they have taken over $200 from us, did not appropriately treat our cat in the first place, and now refuse to read labs that have information the cat's hospital could use. I am appalled by the complete lack of urgency. But mostly I am appalled by the complete and total lack of caring by these people. If you do not care about animals, do not work at a veterinary clinic and do not waste your time going to veterinary school. When I moved here 9 years ago I had my diabetic cat who was on insulin and needed a specific diet at specific times. I had a vacation scheduled 2 months after arriving here but my last cat sitter was back in NY. I stopped into Robinson AH about 2 weeks after the move and explained my dilemma. Voila! The loveliest young lady made herself available to care for my sweet pet. I immediately began using Robinson AH for mine and my daughters cat on a regular basis. When "my" cat got to about 15 years old I finally had to put him down because he was no longer living a comfortable life and Dr Head was wonderful. Three days after I let my cat go I got a sympathy card signed by every staff member including Dr Head with personal expressions of sympathy from everyone. They also made an imprint of my sweet guys paw in ceramic with his name imprinted which they gave me. We recently had to let go of my daughters 18 year old cat, and again, their kindness was overwhelming. We are looking forward to soon getting another pet. It will be a rescued pet just as my and my daughters were. The first thing we'll do is bring him to Dr Head and the staff at Robinson AH. Read Less

Hello pet owners.  I'm sorry if this is a bit long but there is no other way to tell it....  If I were judging solely based upon the service provided it would be a different star rating however, it's not only about the competency it's about the overall experience and transparency. Let me explain... I have a 3 month old puppy and I'm a first time pet owner. I picked up the little guy from a rescue, the rescue was very thorough and provided me with a clearly documented outline of the puppies health and current treatments. When I called the vet to make an appointment for his next set of shots I was extremely clear about; puppies age, shots and current condition (which is perfectly healthy). I asked several times about costs and was softly quoted around $60 dollars or so.  When I arrived I was kindly and professionally greeted, handed paperwork and sent to wait in the lobby. Then I proceeded to one of the examining rooms where again was kindly greeted. Then before ANYBODY looked at the puppy I was presented with a litany of things the pup needed. Which first equalled $169 dollars, the nurse left to come back 2 min later saying he needed another something taking the total to $189 dollars.  Again, this is before anybody even picked the dog up.After agreeing to "your dog absolutely needs all of this" (stuff I couldn't even tell you) so what else would you say, it's your new pup... yes...  The doctor finally shows up.  Again, very professional, very kind and he did ask a lot of question... He seamed competent. In closing... My $60 dollar visit was $200+ dollars ... Yes $200+ dollars, you ask how in the world could they have been that far off the mark.... Great question!! and he was perfectly healthy.  So... I ask if the vet knows everything up front (from my first call) and you have a list of things he needs (before even looking at him) why not just quote the $200+ dollars over the phone? Why? I would have paid double (again it's my puppy) just be transparent and upfront! It's not about the money it's about the experience. In closing. If you need a good vet I'd say they are good but expect to pay way more than what you are initially quoted. Read Less

When we first moved to the area, I took my beagle to another vet in Clayton where I was over charged for the services. Needless to say we weren't happy leaving. When my beagle recently got sick I took him into Robinson Animal hospital where we were not only squeezed in on a day where they were booked solid but we were treated so incredibly well. With this dog we have been to no less than 6 different vets where we were pretty much rushed out the door once the diagnosis was found. Their front desk operator Leann was so sweet and patient and Dr. Head really took his time with us (despite the fact that it was the last hour before a long holiday weekend), explaining everything and even took the time to show me the x-rays and point out exactly what I was looking at. Their prices are very reasonable, but the service is certainly what we will be coming back for. Needless to say my beagle is doing much better after his visit and I can sleep better knowing there is a wonderful vet nearby should we need it. Thank you so much Robinson Animal hospital!Read Less

I've lived in the Raleigh-Durham area with pets for 7 years now & Dr. Head is my favorite vet thus far. He takes time to explain any current or potential issues with your pet(s) in a calm, caring manner & doesn't make you feel rushed. When we recently adopted a new puppy, I decided to follow Dr. Head from a practice in Raleigh to his new practice @ Robinson in Clayton & am happy I did so. I find all the staff extremely helpful, attentive, and caring of my pets needs. I have two dogs and one cat and have officially transferred all to Robinson now that Dr. Head is there. Additionally, the office staff has been really helpful in saving me a buck or two when it comes to monthly preventative flea/tick/heartworm meds. In the past I've often had to deal with ornery receptionists over the phone; the difference between those receptionists and Robinson's front office is refreshing. They just plain have good manners here! Tip: the office has some really good bulletin boards re: pet health and local options for pet boarding etc... Check them out! Read Less

We were delighted to find Dr. Tom Head as the new owner of the veterinary practice at Robinson Animal Hospital in Clayton. Dr. Head was our dog Megan's vet for over two years when he practiced in Raleigh and we missed him for almost two months when he moved to Clayton. We like Dr. Head because he is compassionate, patiently explains medical conditions and treatment options and uses medications and testing judiciously. Megan is now receiving subcutaneous fluids twice a week to combat kidney disease and we are happy to drive the 21 miles each way from Raleigh to Clayton to reach a vet that we can communicate with and trust. Robinson Animal Hospital also has an excellent staff. The administrative personnel always gives Megan and me a warm friendly greeting and makes us feel really special. The technicians are well trained, competent and very gentle. Either Dr. Head or his staff call to follow up on Megan's condition after her treatments which shows they genuinely care about their patients. A final note from our experience: we have found the prices at Robinson to be slightly less expensive than Raleigh vets. This was a welcome discovery. Read Less

I have called them when my pets have been sick and they are willing to fit them in that day, not make me wait a few days! The staff members are very pleasant, and both doctors are willing to go the extra mile in finding out information for me. The hospital is always clean and odor free. They have had several doctors over the years I have been going there and they've all been good, but I like the two that are there now the best (Dr. Washington and Dr. Lewis) I always go home with something in writing to refer to for their problems-allergies, corneal ulcer, ear disease, cat viruses, what I should vaccinate them for, a sheet about their check-up today, etc. I have even been referred to a specialist when Dr. Lewis felt that was the best choice for my dog's ear surgery two years ago. They are very sweet with my cats who are grumpy when they are there. They aren't cheap but I expect to pay good money for great care. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

When I went to pick her up at the end of the day Dr Lewis even took the time with me to show me how to help my dog with some therapy exercise and what to keep an eye out for. I found there prices extremely fair and reasonable. Dr Washington who is the other vet is also extremely friendly polite and also takes the time to go over things with you and they both answer any questions you may have. The whole staff at Robinson is polite and very helpful with any questions that you may have. I would highly reccomend Robinson Animal Hospital. I even take my other two dogs and two cats there. I also found that Dr Lewis even took the time to speak with my vet in New Jersey when my dog was hurting to discuss her care with her because she had a similar problem a couple years ago when I lived there. Dr Washington is the best vet ever its a shame that she is moving to another state she is extremely helpful always returns your call and will spend the time with you especially when I just had to in March of 08 put one of my dogs down due to cancer she will be missed especially by me and my pets and any vet in Kansas would be happy to have hear I wish her all the best Read Less
