We have used Dr. Pete for years for both of our dogs. He is 45 minutes away from where we live, so we have tried other vets for convenience, but ALWAYS have come back to Dr. Pete and his staff. I must agree with some of the other reviewers on the front desk staff.  The first few times it was off-putting, as one of the gals especially is never THAT friendly.  I've come to just accept it.  She's not into small talk & it's just her personality.  I am super super glad that I didn't let that deter me from making Dr. Pete our vet!!!  He is hands down the most amazing man!!!  He's been incredible with our family & our English Bulldog!  You can tell that he absolutely loves his job & all his 4 legged patients!!  Dr. Pete comes HIGHLY recommended!!!!! These people are wonderful. They tended to two emergencies when my regular vet turned me away and told me to go to the emergency clinic. After experiencing that, I decided that I needed to switch vets. I have been with Clemmons Vet for 2 years now. Had another emergency today...and the girl at the front desk told me to come on in and they would work me in. They eased my worries and took excellent care of my little girl. I have read the some negative reviews about the front desk....please...understand that these girls are working hard to tend to everyone. They are not rude....they are busy. It is all about the pets.....not some about a selfish pet owner. If you want great pet care from a compassionate group, this is the place to be. The staff are some of the most professional and caring people I've met. Two weeks ago, we had to take our sweet dog Ginger to be put down. It took about an hour for everyone in my family to get there and then we spent an additional hour cuddling and loving on her before she crossed the rainbow bridge. The staff was so patient and kind. After today, we've decided to change vets.  The veterinarians here are great but the front desk is lacking.  Unfriendly and unhelpful.  Told us today we couldn't get medicine for our dog until she had a check up and she was scheduled for a check up in September.  We were never told she needed a check up and we've been there twice SINCE September.  We were told this after standing there for a few minutes, waiting to be greeted, while the girls at the front desk smelled candles. We've been taking our cats to this clinic for about a year. Staff has always been friendly and the Vets have been good. They are a busy clinic at times, but we've never felt rushed during our visits. One of our cats gets aggressive when being handled by strangers; everyone there has been as gentle with him as possible while maintaining their own safety. Pete and Chad have been our 3 little poodles vets. for years. Both of them LOVE animals and REALLY care for the families and their loving pets. Pete and Chad have saved our poodle Duke twice, help all 3 of our poodles get over sickness and took care of our poor Marley in his final months. Marley just passed away a few weeks ago with major heart issues. His condition had become so bad that there was nothing anyone could do to save him. Pete looked us in the eyes and said "This is no away for any animal to live. Poor Marley's heart has had it". We knew it, but would not make a very sad choice without Chad or Pete's advice. Pete was with us as Marley passed away and gave us a HUGE hug as we ALL cried. These guys are the BEST OF THE BEST and we will always take Marley's sister and brother (Summer and Duke) to Clemmons vet. The staff is also wonderful ! They cared enough to send us a card after Marley's passing. (Thanks Amy and everyone for your sweet words in the card.) If you want a vet that sees your furry loved one the same as you do, you definitely want to make an appointment with Dr. Pete Guilyard. He goes out of his way to take very good care of your furbaby. He doesn't guess at what "might" be wrong. He listens to the pet parent and to the pet as well. He will spend as much time as you need with him so that you can ask questions and discuss options. He is also great with follow up as well. Follow up is just as important as the visit. He is also very reasonably priced. The best thing about him is, he doesn't do this work for the money, it truly comes from the heart simply because he loves helping animals. Read Less

I love Dr. Pete. He has bent over backwards helping two of my cats. We were not even patient's of his when we had a medical emergency one Saturday night with an abscessed paw. He came in, and took care of my cat even though it was Saturday evening. He takes the time and has the patience to work through the medical situation and the pricing seems to be fair. I do not come away with the feeling that he is just trying to run up unnecessary charges. The care seem compassionate and caring. I do agree with the above poster that the office staff, and receptionists are somewhat rude, but I just put up with them to get the chance to work with Dr. Pete. When you call, they immediately dismiss you and tell you that there are no available appointments,. Per Dr. Pete's instructions, I leave a message for him, and so far he has almost immediately called back, and if he feels that the patient should be seen, he fits us in;. Took a while to find a vet I liked in Winston but this place is definitely where you want your dog to be. Dr. Pete is fantastic, always explains everything and answers my questions, never feel rushed. Front desk staff is always pleasant and welcoming. Never had any trouble getting appointments and place is kept clean, no odors. Dr. Pete definitely has your dogs best interest at heart and is not just in it for a quick dollar. My wife and I have 6 dogs. Dr. Pete Gilyard has been our absolute favorite person and the go to person for our dogs for many many years. He has seen us through bumps, bruises, fights, fleas, deaths and an unfortunate run in with an electric fence.  Dr. Pete has always given us sound advice and a very friendly smile. We have 3 greyhounds and Dr. Pete knows all about the breeds sensitivities. We wouldn't dream about taking them anywhere else. Vet Tech Kelly I believe she is new, was very rude, insensitive, and uncaring. Her behavior was far from professional. I was there to put my dog down who was 6 years old or shall I say my best friend. She showed no remorse and continuously harassed me for payment for the duration of the procedure. Dr.Lakey is a wonderful and compassionate doctor, but given the behavior of one staff member in a very sad time for me, I will not continue coming to this office.Read Less

Honestly, how can you not find something good to say about this place!! First, let me start off by saying....my animals are my kids (if that holds any weight). I've been taking my animals here for approximately 3 years now. I absolutely love both Dr. Gilyard & Dr. Lakey. They are truly genuine animal loving people! Actually, I believe the entire staff is as well. Unfortunately, my animals have suffered some serious life-threatening emergencies & the doctors have always been there for me & my animals. We recently had our beloved boxer Toby put to sleep. Toby had cancer and had been sick for a while. We had consulted with another vet and were not happy, so we transferred to Clemmons Vet clinic and Dr. Gilyard and his staff were amazing! When we had to make the decision to let Toby go, Dr. Gilyard was understand and great. Toby couldn't walk, so Dr. Gilyard came out to our car and sat with us for a little bit. He even got emotional with us. He truly cares about animals and their owners and understands that your pets are your babies. We are still struggling with the loss of Toby, but we know when we decide to rescue another animal, we will not take them anywhere but to Dr. Gilyard. Read Less

Pete is absolutely wonderful. This is definitely his "calling". He genuinely cares for your pet; is kind, friendly, and takes the time to explain things. He has a happy, calming affect on you and your pet. If your pet has to stay in the "hospital" he will talk with you over the telephone and keep you updated. Dr. Gilyard is the best. He takes his time to talk to you about any problems or concerns. He takes the time to even pet or play with your animal. He has even taken the time to speak to me on the phone. He has been our vet for 11 years. He also keeps the cost down which is great.
