While I absolutely love the doctors and technicians, I'm getting a bad taste in my mouth from a business point of view.Like a lot of people, I prefer to order my dogs' prescriptions through either 800-PetMeds or Chewy.  I save a lot of money over a year with 2 monthly pills for 2 dogs.  Each prescription is about 15.00 more on average if I get it at the vet's office. Each time I would order and either company would reach out for an approval, it would take DAYS for the prescription to be approved.  No matter which service I was using, I would get the email updates that they are still waiting for the vet to approve the order(s).This past week the same thing happened again.  When I got the email, i called the vet to see what was happening with the prescription.  I was told it was declined - One of the 3 items I ordered I still had 2 months left so they declined the entire thing.  But nobody could be bothered to reach out to ME to tell me.  Even that reason of having 2 pills let didn't make sense, but I called PedMeds, had them delete it from the order and get approval for the other two.  I received a shipping notification and my card was charged yesterday.TODAY I get a call from the vet's office to inform me that they can no longer approve my request because of a new law that went into place YESTERDAY.  Apparently they can no longer authorize an our of state shipment. You would have thought that 2 days ago when I spoke with them someone would have mentioned this.  Nothing is mentioned about this on their social media either. After practically pulling teeth, she finally told me they can write out the prescription to send to Chewy or Petmeds in the future which I will do.I selected this office based on reviews of the care the pups would receive.  And that is still a reason to continue to go, but I do feel as though the nickel and diming is a little off-putting. I've been bringing my cat to Poplar Animal Hospital for many years. We've seen several different doctors and we've received great care from all of them. They are professional and kind. My cat was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Dr. Justis called me on the weekend to tell me about the diagnosis and took great care and time to go over all of our treatment options. She answered all of my questions and gave me literature to review to make me feel comfortable and more knowledgeable about what was going on. We followed her suggestions for treatment and after several weeks, my cat started to show significant signs of improvement. I'm very grateful for the medical expertise and care that Dr. Justis and the staff at Poplar Animal Hospital have provided us, especially recently. Read Less

I've been going to Dr. Justis for about 20 years and recommend her every chance that I can. I had a 10 yr old cat who was diagnosed with low grade lymphoma and severe IBD. When I did my research, I saw that the typical life expectancy for that was 18-24 months. With the special care that Dr Justis gave her and how Dr J really partnered with us in deciding care, my cat lived 7 more GOOD years. I saw another reviewer said this and coincidentally I had just said the same thing to Dr J when we brought our dog in...this really is a "calling" for her. It seems to be what she was born to do and my experience is that she is fantastic with my pets which include a rottie/shepherd years ago (very stubborn but sweet) and currently a very anxious but also sweet pittie mix that I am fostering. So my pets haven't always been easy peasy but they do great with them all the same.Over the years I have also seen Drs Amat and Munn when Dr J was out that day and I felt very confident with the care they gave my dogs/cat as well. I have NEVER felt that they were recommending needless tests. I feel that they genuinely care about the animals that they see. I saw the very negative review on here and tend to think there was more to that than what was expressed and that is because I have seen Dr J for 20 years in many different situations and have a really good sense of her as a vet and person. She is extremely smart and competent as well as a caring individual. I highly recommend all of these vets. Read Less

We have been taking our 3 girls here for over 3 years and have always been pleased until this last illness.  I went in saying "think outside the box, this is not the normal back problems" for my Chiweenie.  Well, we did the normal x-rays and bloodwork. She could not hardly walk, wasnt eating or drinking and obviously in pain.  She was put on 4 medications and we were told to wait.  There was no progress for over 2 weeks and I was trying to come to terms on letting her go at almost 9 years of age.  Went as far as taking off work to put her down.  We waited a few more days and as I was holding her up to go to the bathroom I notices a worm.  Called immedietly and left message as normal, got a call an hour later and was told that to come get meds the next day.  I went on lunch break after calling and was told it was ready and it wasnt of course but took the meds to her and gave them.  By the time I got home it was obvious why she had been suffering from the deworm meds.  By Friday afternoon she was almost normal.  I called and left a message commenting about them not giving her a fecal on June 11th, this was on the 27th and never heard back from them.  I have since switched vets of course but feel I need to warn others.  They do not answer the phone, it is obvious while you are waiting, they do not check about your pets and they do not start with the simple less expensive test, my girl suffered 3 weeks unfortunetly.  I almost lost my girl because of their neglect.  Remember, I said at the beginning to them, this is not normal and a $15.00 ish test would have proven me right before the $362.00 xrays and expensive bloodwork and medications.  She is healthy and happy now thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/PoplarAnimalHospital/posts/2228102680538353 A love note of thanks to Evil Dr. INJustis and the INJustis League.....aka.Poplar Animal Hospital I cannot believe that Poplar Animal Hospital is not under investigation for ethics violations. Last September I took my dog Jasper, a border collie mix rescue in to be examined by our vet Dr. INJustis, for a fatty, cyst-like growth that was small, 9x9 cm to be exact. Dr. INJustis tells us that to have it removed would be $530. She advised us however that if it wasn't causing pain or hindering is functionality that it might be best to leave it alone and IF it ever got bigger, we could proceed with surgery. The growth is now the size of a small cantaloupe. It did not grow much at all for a long period of time but over the past 3ish months really took on size. Fast forward to 2 days ago, Monday July 2. My wife went to the office to gather some information about the surgery, confirm costs from before and ask about financial options since our situation has changed drastically from September. She came home visibly upset and informed me that the girl at the desk must be new because she was rude and short with my wife. So I get Jasper and drive to the office so that they could see that this is an issue and we need to get it removed. I explain the financial situation and tell them that i only want to confirm the price as we are seeking help from friends and family. They tell me that I need to do an office visit for $55. Now I'm mad because, that $55 could be put toward the surgery cost of $530 which is what I'm trying to confirm. So, left with no real choice in the matter I do it , because conveniently, Dr. INJustis is available. Oh the bitter stench of irony. Jasper and I go in to the exam room where the Whiz Bang Ms. Obvious Dr. INJustis proceeds to look at me ad say "wow that's nearly triple in size". I had all I could do to keep my cool and not come unglued at such a moronic statement. The Dr. INJustis goes to calculate a new cost based on its current size. She came back to me with a quote of $1400 and that they would have to do a new blood panel ant the cost of $150 to see if he could handle the surgery. OH and that since hes here he should have his vaccines. This b%&@$ has lost her mind. Did I not explain our financial position? I tell her that we elected to not do the surgery based on her recommendation and that back in September we could have more easily afforded the surgery and that had we known that we would be here and now, we would have taken care of this already. Dr. INJustice gives me this look of NOT MY PROBLEM and tells me that this quote is good for 2 weeks and can't be honored after that. WoW! total lack of compassion for an animal and people. I got you EVIL Dr. INJustis and your INjustis League known as Poplar Animal Hospital! I will stop at nothing to destroy whatever reputation you have! Here's the good news, after reaching out to the community I had received several recommendations of other places to go for a second opinion and boy am I glad. I ended up taking Jasper to West Stanly Animal Clinic where we walked right in unannounced with nothing but the word of some kind people and a lot of prayer. We went yesterday morning at 8 am, with no appointment, as it is a walk in clinic. Jasper and I were immediately greeted by Liz. Liz had a warm smile and a clear tone of compassion as she looked to see the large growth that Jasper was dealing with. As I explained our situation that we have with Dr. (In)Justis at CROOKED Poplar Animal Hospital, Liz seemed to understand that I felt as if I was being taken advantage of. She continued to listen to our story as she took our information and entered it into the computer. All the while, close to 10 other clients were arriving with their pets. I had assumed that they were all regular clients based on observations. Nonetheless Liz remained focused on Jasper's needs and had sanitized and escorted us into a examination room immediately after she finished recording our information. Once in the room and after less than a 5 minute wait, Dr. Tami Lane had come in to look at the growth. Dr. Tami listened to our story as she gently probed Jasper beginning to asses the situation. I had explained the financial stress that we are currently under and that I needed to get a concrete number to work with. Dr. Tami thoroughly explained the process and the possible complications. I agreed to the $46.00 to do the blood work to see if Jasper was healthy enough to undergo anesthesia and other general health concerns. ( #crookedPoplarAnimalHospital wanted $149 to to that test). Dr. Tami game me peace of mind in that she feel confident that this seems to be a large cyst-like growth and should lift out without much complication. She did lay out the slim possibilities that could arise but can only be confirmed once the surgery is underway, I do understand that there are factors. Dr. Tami gave me the worst case scenario price of $500 and can to it as soon as tomorrow morning. All 5 of my pets will be going to West Stanly Animal Clinic from now on. As for the crooked Poplar Animal Hospital and crooked #SandraJustisDVM they should investigated for ethics violations. I hope and pray that their other clients have not been treated this way. I also hope that no animal that had a chance was lost due to the crooked Poplar Animal Hospital immoral and reprehensible standards. I want to personally thank Melissa and Cheryl for recommending West Stanly Animal Clinic and every one at West Stanly Animal Clinic especially: Liz Dr. Tami Danielle Taylor .....all for your beyond expectation kindness, compassion and professionalism! Poplar Animal Hospital Here is an update. Try and recall the $535 surgery estimate from September and the $1400 estimate from Monday, July 2. Recall all of the fees for vaccinations that you threw at me that I HAD TO HAVE. Recall your saliva dripping down your chin at the opportunity to capitalize on the emotions of a devoted pet owner trying to do anything to make his dog more comfortable. Recall Today, July 5th, Jasper had his surgery and is recovering at home with the loving kindness of the incredible team of Dr. Sam Griffin and Dr. Tami Lane at West Stanly Animal Clinic for less than the original quote that the crooked and evil Dr. INJustis gave me in September, and it included the biopsy. The incision is approximately 13" long and the mass is best described as a small seedless watermelon. Poplar Animal Hospital and the Crooked and Evil Dr. INJustis are the lowest of low when it comes to morals and ethics and are not fit to tend to any animal. How in Gods glorious name can the crooked and evil Dr. INJustis sleep at night or stand to look at herself in the mirror? It's disgusting. I want to make it abundantly clear that #poplaranimalhopital is out for nothing more than your money. They could care less if your loving pet dies. Read Less

I took my puppy in for two visits, under the wellness plan. I enrolled her in it because it was cost effective but 4 months later I was forced to give her up because the apartment complex changed their policy to include Pit Bulls as a restricted breed, so I rehomed her. I informed PAH that she was no longer with me in June, yet they still charge me $60 a month, stating the contract is good for a year, regardless of circumstances. So if my dog gets hit and killed, I guess I keep paying? They have been more than compensated for the two visits(immunizations) that she went there for. Do yourself a favor and pay per visit. I will give kudos for a pleasant experience for the two visits though. Read Less

I previously took both of my dogs here, for a total of about 15 years. I used to board my dog about 2 to 3 times a month, or more, because I travel for work. The last two times I boarded my dog, whenever I picked him up it was like they never had taken him out to the bathroom. He was there for two days, and obviously held it for that long... he exploded all over the floor of the waiting room, and then again as soon as I got him outside , and again at my house. If they took him out, they certainly didn't spend enough time letting him do his business. Like I said, I have been going here for a total of 15 years with my dogs, and never had this problem before. I asked to talk to somebody, and they acted like it was my dogs fault, because he was too busy sniffing the ground to go to the bathroom. At times when I would go to pick him up I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes before they even brought him out, & they didn't even have anyone else in the waiting area. Its a shame that after 15 years that this had to happen. I would seriously think twice if you are considering boarding your pet here. Read Less

First let me say that Dr. Justis is the best. I believe she was born to be a veterinarian. But I have major issues with the staff's handling of clients when they are saying goodbye to their family member. THE STAFF NEEDS SENSITIVITY TRAINING. While we were saying goodbye to our cat before having to euthanize her, a staff member came in and asked how we would like to pay for this...I mean really? That was the last thing on my mind at the moment. Just assume the client will be billed and leave it at that unless they say otherwise. Then when I had to pick up my cat's remains, I did not get any "sorry for your loss...", or "she will be missed" or whatever, no...all I got was "you have an outstanding balance.Would you like to take care of that now?" Uh, no. Although I told them to bill me, they handed me an invoice anyway. Again, THE STAFF NEEDS SENSITIVITY TRAINING.  Going to look for a new place for my other animals. Read Less

Can't believe I haven't reviewed Poplar Animal Hospital.  I have been taking my fur babies here for 2+ years.  They were the first vet I had when I moved to Concord.  I now live in Charlotte and take the 30 minute trip out there to keep seeing the doctors at Poplar Animal Hospital- I do this with two cats who hate to be in cars.  That tells ya something right there.  Truthfully I am not raving so much about the care - it's great but I have no examples of above and beyond- but more about the practice as a whole.  Everyone combined makes a really pleasant experience when taking in your babies (I'm talking Drs, vet techs, the front desk (whom honestly I deal w/ the most as my babies are on life long medication so I call for refills on the regular).  Now onto what moved them from 4 stars to 5.  The price.  As mentioned I relocated to Charlotte proper about 6 months ago.  Previous to this move I always kinda thought Poplar Animal hospital was rather, well, pricey.  Boy was I wrong.  In just trying to find a more local vet I realized that Poplar Animal Hospital is where it's at.  Not only is the care great, but the prices are the lowest in town.  From vaccines to office visits etc etc.  Now you can go cheaper and go to the county animal shelters, but that's a PIA to say the least.  My time is worth more than the few dollars I'd save per vaccine.  So there ya have it. We have been bringing our dogs to Poplar Animal Hospital since we moved to Concord in July of 2011. It has been mostly for check-ups and shots, but we've had a couple of series problems that were spotted early and treated successfully--including parvo virus in a puppy and accidental rat poison ingestion. To me, what speaks best is that ALL of our dogs LOVE going to the vet! We usually see Dr. Justis, but everyone, from the front desk to the vets themselves know our dogs and love to see them coming. We have been going to Dr. Amat since he was at Animal Medical Hospital on Monroe Road in Charlotte around 2000 (which was when we got hooked on him).  He has seen us through 8 dogs (ours, fosters, hospice...) including three euthanizations, several surgeries, and a couple of long illnesses. He has been amazing for each and I can't imagine going anywhere else, which may explain why we drive roughly 30 miles each way to get our care.  We've seen Drs. Munn and Justis as well, and they are both very good in themselves, but we are Amat fans.  He is personable and takes time with everyone.  Since we routinely have three dogs, he takes time to check with each regardless of whose appointment it really is.  He also somehow manages to avoid the personableness turning into lateness and is typically right on time for our appointments.  The techs have also been wonderful. To sum up, I'll give the example of Scarlet, who went through three surgeries with Dr. Amat and a long struggle with congestive heart failure.  Through the end of her life, she never got more excited than when we said "Wanna go see Dr. Amat?" and when it came time for her to die, she was surrounded by her three favorite men--me, my husband, and Dr. Amat. I went to this place because the reviews online looked promising and it was cheaper than the vet I had been taking my two dogs to. I see now why it was less expensive - it was a terrible experience. When I was waiting to be checked in, the receptionists were gossiping about a client and Coddle Creek vet clinic, which I found tacky. When my dogs and I got an exam room, the vet tech came in to talk. She took my first to a back, separate room - I thought just to weigh him, but when the vet tech came back 10 minutes later, she said the doctor had examined him already and he looked 'fine'. I have never been to a vet where the exam was done in a separate room, and I was furious. I complained and they did the exam on my second dog with me present, but I was totally unimpressed with the professionalism, communication, and friendliness of the staff. I will be returning to Harris Boulevard Vet. Clinic next time my pets need attention, and will gladly pay the extra money for the individual attention I get from the support staff and doctors.

Nonetheless Liz remained focused on Jasper's needs and had sanitized and escorted us into a examination room immediately after she finished recording our information.Once in the room and after less than a 5 minute wait, Dr.
