After exam I found out they did not have oral flee treatment and heart worm combinations that are found at other vets because their vet did not like them. The oral that they did have had different mechanism of action. I bought it anyway because I was in a bind. Afterwards I ended up purchasing on line after a wild goose chase getting script from them. I now realize that is because all of our information was spelled shockingly incorrect. By the time I got the medication it was 10 days later. Also, we agreed on three yr rabies shot and they gave me the one yr. and said nothing. When I questioned them 6 months later they blamed me and said I did provide them with proof of current rabies. Terrible. And not affordable! If you need a spay or neuter call SNAP of NC. Cost me almost 300 for spay for my kitten. She looks like she was botched on her stomach- its terrible. I brought her back in a few days later...when I came in the lady at desk at there while I sat waiting didn't acknowledge I was even there... She took my cat to the back, heard terrible cat noises, brought her back to me and didn't tell me what she did. Just we sealed with glue, get her a sweater to she wont mess with it. Had an appointment for my other cat to get neutered...going somewhere safer, more affordable and friendly. As for black gentleman that works the desk- he is wonderful! Dr. Bullock and her staff are the most caring and compassionate group of people I have ever dealt with in the veterinary profession. I have taken my pets to Dr Bullock for the past 15 plus years. We started with her at Greenwood Veterinary Hospital and after she sold this practice and opened a community hospital , Affordable Animal Care, we followed her here. There is not another vet I know that rescues over 300 animals per year and pays for them out of her own pocket and keeps them safe until homes are found. Last week, a local minister brought in a dog on emergency for two broken front legs. She took the dog in, received a bogus check from him for the small deposit she required and now after the dog was abandoned is working daily to make sure the extensive fractures heal and is doing all she can with her staff to help this 7 month old dog, feel love and heal and find a forever home. During the same time frame, a lady with a cat with cancer was crying that she could not pay for continued treatment, the treatment was performed and the lady was told to pay when she could. The need of the animals comes first, the charity and love floods the environment and the animals receive the best care. I have had many times in which my cats and dogs had issues in the evening or late night, and without question, Dr. Bullock provides care. This current witch hunt that started with the negative intentions of a few angry rogue people is insane. I know this person and this hospital and this staff and will support with all I have as needed to help counter all of the negative untruths that are being stated. Adopted a dog from the clinic and the rescue Dr. Bullock runs out of her clinic, was told I was adopting a spayed dog, received medical notes and invoices about her spay procedure, then 2 weeks ago my precious pup goes into heat. My vet confirmed no scarring internally or externally to indicate that there was a procedure completed at all! do not recommend this practice. Severe fraud and negligence. Also horrible paperwork reason for a visit prior to adoption was listed as "blah blah" Please people who write these reviews also file a complaint with the NC vet medical board. I’m am so unhappy and wish I had looked at the reviews first. Took my cat there to get spayed and her glue kept coming up done so we took her in again and again. I met the vet and was not impressed with the way she handled my cat. I called and asked for a refund due to the fact I had to take her to another vet bc the incision was so bad I had to get a second opinion. Was told yesterday I would get a call back and still have not heard back. Not to Mention they Micro chipped my cat without me asking or talking about it and tried to charge me for it. Dr. Bullock still owes me approximately $3300 in back pay. When I tried to cash paychecks at her bank, continuous insufficient funds. I had to cash them at check cashing store at 3-5% fee! We have taken both our Husky Collie mix and our Pomeranian here for years and I have never had any problem with their care. That said, the only reason I did not give them five stars is that the cost of grooming was astronomical. I was excited they would groom my Husky because I could not find anyone who would groom a large breed. It started at 30 dollars. Of course I knew it would be more than that but 200 dollars? Really?  I find their care is great but their prices are not explained or given before hand so you have no idea if the injection just given to your animal was just 20 dollars or 500 dollars. I have learned to ask before so I know. It really is not more affordable than other places but their care is good. The communication between receptionist and patient is not very good. Read Less

Very disappointing. After paying what was no doubt a very high price for a neutering, I picked him up to find that they had raised the price by 30% without consulting me about any of it. They were not willing to meet me in the middle about any of the costs in question and held my dog hostage until I paid the full amount. Dr. Paula Bullock should not be practicing Veterinarian Medicine.  In my opinion she is incompetent and cannot be trusted.  We boarded our two cats with her and when we picked them up one was severely dehydrated and lost her weight dropped from 16 lbs to 9 lbs.  we too her to another vet immediately for a physical and this vet refer her to an animal hospital for urgent treatment.  After over over $3,000 in veterinarian bills she is still receiving IV fluids to help her recovery which is not certain.  I urge you to google Dr. Bullocks name for an WRAL News expose on her arrest for charges of felony fraud which was caused by her fraudulent use of a customers credit card to purchase over $32,000 in pet supplies.  What is most insulting is we boarded our two cats for almost a month at an approximate cost is over $1,200 which her Practice charged me for up front. Dr. Bullock has definitely earned herself a place amongst my family. She goes above and beyond the call of duty for me and my fur babies. She has gotten us through some really sticky situations. She made herself available to me at all hours of the night during my sweet Emmy's chemo, never failing to respond within minutes no matter what time it was. She has been my vet for years and has never done anything shady, inconsiderate, or rude. The clinic *is* a walk in clinic and they *do* accept emergencies. I know this because they took one of my cats for one. I've also given them the courtesy of being patient when I had an appointment, because an emergency came in. This is a small clinic, and they care about their clients, human and animal. If you treat them kindly and respectfully, as I always have, you'll be a part of their family too. When we started asking questions, they got snotty and refused to explain the charges previously unreported. They eventually came out w our dead cat wrapped in a blue cloth, taped together and told us not to worry about the bill. When we said that's unacceptable, they called the cops. BE AWARE, ANNE WHITE AND the so called "manager", Eris Chance, are rude and THE epititome of unprofessionalism. It's ok... we will see you in court, just like your other clients who you f****d over did. BOTTOM LINE, DON'T EVEN think about bringing your sick animal here. Prices are usually good. But not always sure on their advice or what extra treatments they recommend. But they are a quick, reasonably priced source for your basic vaccines, which is we generally use them for. Read Less

I will never take any animal to any other place, or at least not by my choice. Excellent care and compassion, top level of professionalism and they even came to my home to pick up my pet since I had no transportation. I now want to foster for them. I would like to say that I cannot thank Dr. Bullock enough for the experience I just had with her clinic. The love of my life (Pebbles) which is a 7 year old shih tzu was in deseperate need of medical care when I took her in at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon. She had been suffering from what I thought was a bladder infection and was on antibiotics which was prescibed by her previous vet. For several days I called her vet advising them she was NOT getting better, she was getting worse. I was told that they would order an ulta sound for her but it may take several days. As Pebbles health declined I finally made the call to Dr. Bullock and she advised me to bring Pebbles in to see her. This was at 3:30 in the afternoon. She did a physical "feel" of her stomach area and immediately felt bladder stones. She then took an x ray to confirm which showed 5 stones and Pebbles was in trouble!! She stayed after hours to do surgery on her and was with her through out the night. During this time she called me with progress reports and even texted me a picture of the stones she removed as well as a picture of Pebbles waking up after surgery. She was kind, compassionate, and extremely professional in her efforts to help my baby as well as help me feel better about the "ordeal" After the night in the hospital and being monitered today I am happy to say that I have my little girl back home recovering. I truely feel that Dr. Bullock probably saved her life as it seems she was on the verge of probably having a ruptured bladder. She went in as I said at 3:30 and by 7:30 that night she had been examined and operated on and was on her way to recovery. If I had not taken her there, I would probably still be waiting for an ulta sound that was not even necessary and I could have lost my baby. I cannot say in words how much I appreciate this Dr.!!! I am extremely happy with the care Pebbles received and have transferred all of her records to this clinic . Highly reccomend her!! Read Less

First let me start by saying I am never one to write reviews... but this place really takes the cake on being UNPROFESSIONAL AND SHADY.  I want others to seriously consider other options before bringing their pet here for "care".  ***I gave one star because I couldn't give zero and have the ability to write a review.I am advising all of you to please BEWARE of Affordable Animal Care!!!!  They are a high-volume "clinic" and the people that work there are trained to scam and give you the run-around when it comes to billing and handling any issues that arise.  We took our dog there for a well-check, all vaccines and necessary routine lab work.  The well-check by the veterinarian consisted of (VERY) brief auscultation of the heart (possibly lungs?) and absolutely NO palpation of ribs, mammary glands, lymph nodes, etc... and NO examination of the skin/coat.  HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE EXAMINATION?When we entered the exam room there were three syringes laid out: one to collect a blood sample and two vaccines (rabies and DHPP).  Not sure where the lepto vaccine was?  Also, there was another item, a tube and white brush appearing apparatus.  We later realized this is what they were supposed to use to collect the fecal intestinal parasite sample... NEVER COLLECTED.  How we know: the staff never removed our dog from the exam room and the DVM administered the two vaccines and drew the blood sample to test for heart worm. At the end of the visit we were told by the staff member (Samantha) that "everything was normal", even after I questioned her, "so the parasite test was normal?" We did not bring a fecal sample with us and nor did they insert anything in her rectum to obtain a sample so how could they have gotten a result?This all dawned on us after we returned home.  I called the very next business day - the first time I called I simply asked how they collected the fecal parasite sample.  I received a very vague explanation that it is "collected from fecal matter".  I then informed the person who answered the phone (Paisley) that no one ever collected this sample and that although Ididn't want to get anyone into trouble, this was unacceptable.  I explained that we were told that "everything was normal", which was highly misleading considering this WAS NEVER DONE.   At the time we came in for the visit they were out of the bordetella vaccine.  I then stated that I would like to have this done and the parasite test since it was never performed. After thinking about it further, we decided that it would be best to get a refund and have her receive veterinary care elsewhere. I called the next day and asked to speak with the practice manager.  After I was transferred the girl on the phone (not the practice manager) had the audacity to question me and say "but I thought you were bringing her in for bordetella".  I explained that we would rather not and I would like a refund.  She said that she was not aware of the situation.... but somehow knew we were originally thinking of bringing her back in? She then explained that refunding was not in their policy, and that she would have to contact the practice manager....... who works from a "remote location" and isn't in the office and that she would call her and let her know what was going on and that she would call me back.  Well, three more days (additional promises of this practice manager "Heidi" to call me back, additional explanations of her not working in the office, additional assurance of "I'm sure they tested for that" went by) and I still haven't received a phone call.  What legitimate practice manager does not visit their practice?  28.00 for a parasite test... it is NOT the money, it is the principal of the matter that Affordable Animal "Care" is falsifying information to justify charging for testing that was never preformed.  I believe this is called MALPRACTICE. Do not take your dogs here. They almost killed my puppy. Bi*** double dosed my puppy with cheap a** over the counter flea stuff. Yes google the flea meds you spend $15-20 on for one application. You can get the entire pack of flea meds online for 20$ they use cheap products that have horrible ingredients in them. Timberline vet in chapel hill nc had to help me in a state of panic bc my dogs after an hour of leaving affordable animal care was acting drunk. One is 105 pounds and the other was not even 3 months old yet. I filed a complaint with the state board in nc that all vets answer to and come to find out their vet is well known there for almost killing dogs, giving out Meds that have recalls. They "bettwr flea" stuff their vet dosed my dogs with timberline vet was able to show me proof that what they applied was recalled off shelves bc it causes neurological damage. My wife took 2 former pets for 1 to be fixed and 1 to have a teeth cleaning and extractions. The experience was pleasant and the vet was very nice. She called today to get pricing about vaccines, spay and microchip and was greeted by the rudest person on the phone even after giving comment of her past experience. These people are extortionists. Our cat got a infection and bladder stones (common in males), we left him there for treatment but wouldn't give us an estimate, came back and got slapped with a bill for $700 after a previous bill of almost $300 for treating the same issue. Almost $1000 to treat a UTI and bladder stones, and if we didn't pay they threatened to take us to court. These people prey on decent folks just trying to care for their animals. This was the worst experience I have ever encountered! I made an appointment to put my baby boy who would have been 10 years old in 1 month down to rest. This was such a hard decision to make since I he had been by my side since he was 6 weeks old. He was seen regularly at Banfield pet hospital in Durham but their price was way more than here, so I made the appointment here. When the doctor came in she said that she was not going to put my dog down for my convenience even after I explained what had happened. I was very upset and had been crying and I found it hard for her to say that to me. This was not at my convenience to put my family member down to rest! His hips were extremely bad and he bit the women who gave him a bath last month. (Who had given him several baths and he was used to). Last week my 8th month old reached out to pet him as she normally would and he almost took her hand. Keep in mind he had been around kids his entire life. The fact that I had to make this decision as I would not trust him being rehomed to bite another individual, was very hard. Needless to say the Dr. said that it is her clinic and I was in the wrong place. She made me feel so small as a human being! My baby boy was my life and for her to also tell me that she could give him medication and drug him up was such an awful solution! I would not want my baby to be on drugs just to get by day to day nor would I want to risk him hurting anyone. He was getting old and his aggressiveness was increasing. Needless to say I went to his regular doctor and we laid him to rest where he will no longer be in pain. I will miss him dearly and I have paid in total 525.00 for a private cremation and his paw print on his urn, with purchasing a cross to wear around my neck with his birthdate and some of his ashes inside it. He will always be my best friend. And to the horrible Dr. at this clinic, I hope that you realize how unprofessional you are! You should not be in this practice! Read Less

Dr. Bullock was amazing!   I called in a panic on a Saturday morning regarding my dog's symptoms.  She requested I bring him in immediately and soon learned an exploratory surgery was required.  Once in surgery, she contacted me and shared (via FaceTime) the extent of my dog's illness.  A prior surgery from another clinic was performed incorrectly and had created a mass in my dog's intestine.  It was a very risky surgery but, he survived and is home with us now and recovering nicely.  The staff was very friendly and understanding given the emotional situation.  This clinic was recommended to me by the NC State Vet Hospital.  I am extremely pleased with the referral and would be happy to send others to Dr. Bullock and her staff.  My only suggestion is that they seek offering some sort of payment plan or financing.   Pet surgery can be expensive. I have been a client of Affordable Animal Care since the beginning and would recommend to anyone that has loved four legged family members. Dr. Bullock and her staff have the biggest hearts. Every pet is pampered, loved and leaves with more treats that I purchase for my dog, Bailey in a week. I read the reviews and I have experienced the poor technician that was fired during her temporary employment with pink hair named Meg. She has several of her friends and her fiancee Justin C, writing negative reviews just out of spite This practice CARES. They pull pets weekly from Person County Shelter to prevent euthanasias, and spay and neuter pets from this facility for free. What other hospital does this???? This hospital is equal opportunity, whether you have means or no, t they help They put their own lives aside..whether they just opened or are about to close...they will stay and go the extra mile to help anyone in need. I have personally watched people who were turned away from other facilities due to limited budgets, have major procedures performed to save the pets and the money worked out later...or not. I have never seen a more compassionate, clean and charming facility and I will always recommend and support AFFORDABLE ANIMAL CARE OF DURHAM. Read Less

I work in healthcare for humans, and know there is little skill needed to administer a vaccination, so I have brought all of my dogs here for their puppy series and booster shots. The first vet we saw amazed me with her reaction to my dog--it was if she had never been around a puppy before! She displayed no tolerance whatsoever to him climbing around on the exam table, and attempting to mouth her when she touched him. She sternly advised that I enroll him in obedience classes, because he was "disobedient" and "out of control". Really, he was a 13 week old chocolate lab puppy?! I would have been more worried if he would have been lying down and not moving while she examined him! The woman we have seen each subsequent time is very nice, and professionally communicates the health of my puppy, and recommendations on his weight/growth (and compliments on what a beautiful lab he is, as she had to go all the way to PA to get her chocolate lab). My negative review comes from trying to get my puppy neutered here. Twice I have made appointments more than a month in advance (making sure I had scheduled time off from work to stay at home with my puppy for a few days during his recovery), and both times I received a phone call a day or two in advance cancelling my appointment because they "didn't have a doctor available". I took our dog max here for his rabies vaccine. He was seen shortly by the vet. She administered the vaccines and was very gentle with max. The front desk lady was extremely nice and went out of her way to help me with a few questions I had. My only con was the rabies vaccine is advertised as $15 on their website, and I did not confirm that when I went in so It was my fault, but I was charged $30 total since max had not been there before and his previous rabies vaccine was out of window. Not that big of a deal. I really appreciateted how kind the vet was to max, even sending him home with a treat. Read Less

We visited Affordable Animal care on May 6th. We were quoted $145 for shots and exam. The vet was not authorized  to administer anything other than the shots that were required for us to board our dog. She then proceeded to do extra procedures and the bill came to over $300. At the time their credit card machine was not working so they demanded cash. I did not have cash on me so they said they would hold my dog hostage until I returned with the cash. They then agreed to take a copy of my charge card and run it when the machine was functioning. I called later that day and was told the credit card machine was still not working. I told them I would be by on Monday to pay the account which I did. I was told the copy of the charge card was shredded so they couldn't return the copy to me. Ten days later I was charged on the charge card they supposedly destroyed. I called and was told a refund would be made. Well here it is two weeks later and I still don't have a refund on my credit card. The first person I spoke with was polite however when I called today the woman I spoke with was very rude.  I now have given them more time than they need to rectify this situation so now I have filed a fraud case with the Durham Police Department. Went in for the first time to update my dog on 3 vaccines. it took 3 different nurses starting and stopping my intake to handle other issues going on. I filled out a form with basic information and was then asked each question anyways- all while trying to contain my very eager dog. They billed me for an exam which was unnecessary as I had brought my records with previous exam preformed and all the Vet did was administer the vaccines. At the END of getting all vaccines they let me know that they only accept cash or check. I did not have either on me and had to go to an ATM after transferring money. Very disappointed. First impressions was great, our dog had problem, we were able to make appointment for the same day. Price was very low. Doctor was great, he handled our dog good and explained everything. Than we needed vaccination so went there again. I asked about required vaccination in NC (because of our recent move here) and was told we need 3 vaccines, so we did, plus heartworm test, plus fecal test. We did not need exam (she had it week before) but was still charged for it. All together the bill was over $200 which I thought is high. Just did some research and found out, we did not need any of the 3 vaccinations...I feel they in this vet they are trying to make you pay for something you don't need! We have been using this location since 2009. when work took us to TN we would use this location on holiday visits to N.C. Compared to vet offices this place is the most affordable. Trust me! My dog was allergic to 4 pollens in TN, two types of grass, and dust mites. He was always in and out of the vet no matter where we lived. I was once charged for a service twice when my dog had pink eye and had to visit twice in two weeks. they were so fast to refund me and even caught the mistake before I noticed. They are very busy at this location. So appointments are better, but also keep in mind true emergencys can walk in at any time. I always remind myself if I have to wait a little extra. I would want to know if my dog was ever in dire need-- he too would be bumped to the top of the waiting list :). The employees at the desk stay super busy. But with that said they are always so kind to take the time to explain any questions (I have a list of them..) sometimes I forget there is an office visit fee$. So when I call to get the quote on the vacs at times the office fee would slip my mind. at payment time I would ask questions about the charges--Even if their staff has a million things and all the phones are Ringing. They still take the time to listen to your questions and give you a respectful answer. I have always left happy and more important my dog is always healthy when we leave! I like to think of this location as the urgent care unit for animals. So yes at times there can be a wait. If you have to be back at work- and explain this they have always gone above and beyond to get my dog back there. Im Thankful that they always try to work with you and your work hrs. And understand if your on lunch. Wonderful staff! I was also extremely impressed how fast their vm system Works. I had to work 12 hr shift last min and needed to take my dog to Camp for the day. Called left a vm asking about his vacs said when I needed to be at work. And they called me back within 30 mins with His records. Avoid like the plague!!!!!Removed a tooth from my dog when it was absolutely unnecessary, then sent him home with the instructions that he could eat hard food and bones immediately.  I took him to another vet who was appalled by this behavior and cost me much more for another procedure. Please, please do not take your pet here. There are other options. This vet uses GLUE and not stitches. My dog's glue came open and her insides almost fell out. I had to rush her to the emergency vet and pay $300. Affordable Animal Care did not return my calls or emails. Here is a copy of my email I sent... how unprofessional to ignore this: Yesterday I brought my dog Khaleesi in for a spay. I picked her up at 4:00pm and put her ecollar on. She is a very timid girl so she just sat on her bed all night. At 9:00pm I checked her incision and it was split entirely open. I rushed her to the emergency vet and was told glue was used in place of stitches. No one informed us prior to the spay that this would be done. If I had known, I would not have taken Khlaeesi to Affordable. I am attaching a copy of my $300 emergency vet receipt. I would like to work something out with your establishment to get a refund for the spay that was done. This was a scary thing to happen to us and life threatening. She had to go back under because 2 layers were completely open. We followed your instructions exactly and Khaleesi was in no way active for this to be her doing. Seeing below there are good and bad reviews. I can personally say I have not had any bad experiences with this clinic. I've been to high end clinics and low cost clinics. This facility is just the same as any normal clinic nothing less or jipped from. I love what this Clinic represents and how it helps this community and surrounding areas. I was sitting in the lobby speaking to a few clients and just like myself all of us are in tight money situations and we all agreed that without this clinic we would not be able to afford to care for our animals. I was a little nervous taking my dog back after reading the reviews but I had had such a good experience before I decided to try it. And am I glad I did!! My dog had been having skin problems for a while and he was miserable. The staff and dr there we extremely helpful and just had his follow-up visit. He is so much better, his skin is almost entirely cleared. I will definitely keep coming here. Read Less

They stole my cat. STAY AWAY!!!! I wish I brought him somewhere else! My cat needed emergency surgery the day before we were moving and on my fiancés graduation day. They said to surrender him since he would not be ready for pick up by the next day when we were leaving but we could arrange for travel after he heals. Like an idiot, I did. They rarely answered our calls and when they did, they referred it to someone else who needed to call us back. No one ever did. Now we found out the cat that I saved from a kitten and raised with perfect health for the past four years has BEEN ADOPTED! Are you kidding!? I paid $336 to have my cat stolen. Read Less

My husband and I are on a grad student budget and heard that Affordable Animal Care was an affordable (shocker) option for shots for our dog because they don't charge an examination fee. This was true, and we were very happy with how quick and easy the process of getting her routine shots was. This seems to have been a rare day at this clinic, as every other interaction we have had there has been  the worst customer service I have ever encountered. We made another appointment for shots some time later and showed up with our dog only to be told that they had run out of the shot. They didn't call us beforehand to let us know this, and to be honest we had made special arrangements to miss class/work to make this appointment. We were irritated but made another appointment for the following day. THE SAME THING HAPPENED. After making two appointments, they did not have the wherewithal to save a shot from one of the many walk-ins they service for someone who made an appointment. Several months later, we took our dog back in due to a UTI. We were still in the waiting room 2 HOURS after our appointment time, keep in mind that our dog was suffering from severe pain the entire time. The staff had no explanation or sympathy, other than an exasperated "Sorry for the wait" after we alerted them repeatedly to how long we had been there. The reception staff seem incompetent and unsympathetic to the fact that they routinely screw up and give false information. We recently made an appointment for teeth cleaning and were told over the phone that it would only be $350 and that we would pick her up midday after the procedure. We arrived for this appointment and were told by a different person that it would be upwards of $650 and that she could not be picked up until 5pm. This was followed by new information that our dog should not have eaten anything after midnight, because she could choke during sedation - a fact you might want to include before showing up for the procedure. The sheer inconsistency of information from their staff is mind boggling. Needless to say we walked out after giving them a list of their misinformation regarding this specific appointment and voicing our frustration. I have worked in a handful of customer service jobs and have never encountered such poor service. After several trials of giving them the benefit of the doubt, we will not return - and will warn others about their inconsistent service and lack of attention to detail - items you would think would be crucial to the administrative aspects of providing healthcare to any living creature! The Pros:They have a walk-in clinicThey seem comparable on priceThey accept debit cardsThe Cons:Even if you have a appt the average visit time is 2 hours as you're basically treated as a walk-in when you arrive.There's no correlation of previous records so when you call to way "my puppy needs his booster meds" they haven't got a clue what the pup already has even though it should be on their records.Some of the vets are a little brusque.Reception is completely disorganized, 5 people, but no structure. It last took me 20 mins just to pay.It's a drop-in centre and seems to have an "ask no questions" policy so your dogs mix with animals that may not have had any vaccinations in the reception area.If you want to pay by credit card, there's a fee.The floor of reception area is probably cleaned every night, but my dogs leave covered in other animal hair and it's not nice.I've had 4 appts here for puppy shots & boosters in the past 2 months and never again! The people are really nice, but we've never been in there for less than 2 hours and we've always been sat in the reception for at least an hour before being seen. Last time I waited over 30 mins to pay at the end of my appt. We were in there for over 2 & half hours. Having an appt just doesn't seem to make any difference and it gets to a point where you have to weigh up what you might save in cost against how much of your day off you have to wait to be seen. I used to go there and I Was pretty happy until this year that I took my dog because he was sick with diarrhea. I wanted to wait until the dr could see him but They told me to leave the dog that they would call me as soon as the dr, could see him. As they claim they only accept cash, I clearly asked the receptionist how much was the consultation and she told me $41.00. This was about 9.30Am. Nobody called me at all until I decided to call around 2PM and I was told that they gave my dog fluid and other things and that my bill was $709. What?? Nobody called me to ask me authorization to do anything on my dog, much less authorize the expense of $700. I went there to pick up the dog and told them I was not going to pay for services that I did NOT authorize. While waiting another lady came very upset because they overcharged her as well. She left saying she would come back with the police.As I told that I was not going to pay that amount the receptionist told me that if I didn't pay they wouldn't give me my frog back. That for every day the dog was there they would charge me $100 boarding per day and after 10 days they will send the dog to the shelter. Nice way of threading me! I told them that I was calling the police, so I did. By the time the police came the bill went down to $500+. Unfortunately the police told me that since it was a civil matter they couldn't do anything but writing a report. I asked the receptionist to show me the charges but it looks like she is not allowed to print the invoice until it is paid. This shows Lack of clarity on the billing. Anyway she was nice enough to show me the invoice from her computer screen and there was a $100 charge for shaving my 12 pounds little dog's leg, about 1 inch shaved. We continued going back and forth and at the end it was long passed their closing hours so the bill went down to $454 that I paid ONLY because I wanted to get my dog and get out of there but with the clarification that I was going to dispute the charge and opening a formal complaint in the Better Business Bureau. I did both things and I am waiting.Please spend a little more money and go to another vet. You will save money and problems! Read Less

I recently planned to take my cat in to get vaccinated when I noticed that he had what looked like an abscess on his leg. He has never had one before but with indoor/outdoor cats it's not unheard of. I called to make sure it was okay for me to bring him in to be seen for this issue, knowing that they do mostly vacc and spay/neuter, and they insisted that it was okay. My cat is a very cool, relaxed, all white male who is known to purr through his entire exam, still I thought it might hurt so I offered to hold him down and keep him calm (done it in the past with my cats and and as a Tech with other cats, even took courses in feline handling). The tech cleaned his abscess and he whined a bit but things were going fine. The veterinarian came in and asked me to let the tech hold him because of "liability" so I said ok and stepped back. She proceeds to pick him up and hold him in mid air by grabbing him under his front legs and  hoisting him up (he is NOT a small cat). Next she grabs his leg that is currently draining blood and puss and bends it back so she can see it from the angle at which she is standing. Queue the hissing and yowling and my ever so calm cat tries to bite her!Next, a tech comes in and grabs my always friendly and purring cat by the scruff and holds him ***in the AIR at arms length*** The vet continues her examination of the wound while my boy is twisting and hissing and spitting and TURNING BLUE. Then they finished and all walked out of the room. The Tech returned and yammered on about some crap that I already knew and I pretty much ignored her while I was trying to get my big boy to calm down. I left the room and when I got to the front desk the receptionist told me my bill was $160!!!!! NOT AFFORDABLE AT ALL! I didn't even have energy to argue, I just paid and left.They DID NOT:1. Do a full physical exam2. Flush the wound3. Use methods to insure the safety of Staff or the animal4. Try to make this a pleasant visit for me or my pet.Do not take your pets here! I didn't even get to the part where the vaccines are double the price at some regular clinics just so they can tell you that you're not paying an exam fee. You are, it's just rolled into the vacc costs. $22 for rabies? Overpriced. If you need a cheap place, go to your local animal shelter and get a rabies for $10. Ugh, never going here again. I brought my dog to get neutered. I bought him in early and everyone was pleasant to me and kind to my dog. I came back to pick my dog up and the whole atmosphere was different! The receptionist had a horrible attitude towards me; like I was bothering her. The assistant brought my dog out and he had blood all over his legs; that did not look normal to me. I was asking the ladies at the front desk questions about it and they all told me it was normal!?!? My poor dog was standing there bleeding AND THATS NORMAL?? Then they proceed to tell me I owe them more $$ when I paid in full this morning? The gave me heartworm tablets that I didn't need (I have plenty at home why would I buy more from a brand I have never heard of on top of that?!?) I tried to get my money back and the two new girls had no idea what they were doing and kept asking the head receptionist what to do then she cursed and came to the computer. She told me I could not return them because they can't take back products like that. I haven't opened them nor have I left with them,WHY CANT YOU GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK? So I'm so upset at this point I take the tablets and ask how much I owe ... And somehow I only owe .75 now?!? I give them the change and leave..... Never again!!! Not to mention my dog is still slightly bleeding and I call and they said bring him tomorrow ... Yea right I'm going somewhere else who has better customer service and skills. Read Less

I just got all my two dogs' vacines + heartworm test + 1 year's worth of heartworm medicine for $196 at Affordable. And I walked in w/out an appt. and was finished in under 45 minutes. For well pet care I don't see how you can beat this. The personnel were efficient and friendly. I highly recommend this clinic. I'll save my money on routine vacines and spend it on getting good quality pet food. I'm a happy new convert! Yay for Affordable pet care! Read Less

I've been going here for about 3 years. I haven't had to wait very long, my pets were treated great. I just have to make sure I have cash cause they are cash based. The prices can't be beat, and they have always been helpful with records on the phone, etc. My dog's teeth were cleaned and she updated me on some things with his neurotic grooming affecting his breath, etc. I like this place, and I am glad I discovered them in this economy. I can't say enough good things about Affordable Animal Care. I live in Cary so it's a bit of a hike for me, but it's very much worth it. The first time I met Dr. Hannah Parker, I liked her immediately. She's friendly and competent. My husband and I have had a lot of money going out (medical bills, other expenses) so when our cat needed a chest X-ray, Affordable Animal Care was an obvious first choice. We had gone to them in the past for other big-ticket procedures (like teeth cleaning for one of our dogs and a different cat) but had not been using them as our primary vet due to the distance. I went in today for the cat's follow-up visit along with our dog for his physical and heartworm test. I walked out of there with a $59 bill. The same services I received at Affordable Animal Care would have cost me AT LEAST $173 at our normal vet (Chatham Animal Hospital). This is in no way an exaggeration. We got estimates from Chatham before we had these procedures done at Affordable Animal Care for comparison. Please give them a try. Dr. Parker is very good, and very reasonable. You can tell she's in it because she wants to help animals and people. The techs have always been friendly. Profit is not the primary concern of AAC, caring for animals and keeping prices affordable is. They will be our primary vet from now on. Read Less
